Hummus plate

Wonderful wine bar located in a shopping center, but when you walk in it feels more like a cozy cave. They have all different types of wines spanning a whole book, so easier to just ask what they recommend. The menu is short and sweet with flatbreads, hummus board, and seasonal fare. I went in to snack but ended up eating a full meal. If in the Babcock/1604 area venture up a bit and Vino Grotta is a nice surprise.

I really wanted to give this place five stars because the atmosphere and the staff were great. The downfall was the speed of service, particularly with the charcuterie board and dessert that we ordered. It took an exceptional amount of time and we didn't feel the place was super busy. Originally we thought maybe there was only one person working in the kitchen however we saw three guys in yellow t-shirts so I'm not sure what took so long. The recommended wine selection we made was really nice as was the food we ordered but the wait time was painful. I'm going to give it another try and hope that it was just an "off" night.

Final Four: Pinot Noirs by region.

Excellent service, gorgeous ambiance, and delicious food. Prices were great. Sunday is all day happy hour with $8 glass (4 varieties) and $8 apps (4 options). Great spot to just relax and enjoy a good glass of wine in the A/C.

Went for the first time to the new wine bar. The place is beautiful. Service is excellent. They officially open on 2/1/25, so it's a soft opening right now. They have 100 different wines and almost all are available by the glass. We had a few appetizers, zucchini frites were our favorite. I plan to try the grilled cheese and Gouda soup next time. We will be visiting here regularly. They do recommend reservations.

Vino Grotta has a beautiful ambiance and an impressive wine selection. The menu is small, with limited food options, but the plates are tasty and pair well with the wines. It's a great spot for a date night or an intimate gathering with friends. Service was friendly and attentive. This place has so much potential--expanding the menu would make it even better.

I love coming here, usually I come on Sundays. I really enjoy playing the free bingo on Sundays! It's usually a pretty chill and casual vibe, and the food is good!

Happy hour wines: Fabulous selections for the price!

We keep going back! Service is great, atmosphere is relaxing, the small menu is irrelevant now. We keep trying new things and it has all been so delicious! They do a few things, and they do them very, very well... all meant to be there to pair with fantastic wines.

We had a great time at Vino Grotta wine bar. They are ranked third best in San Antonio and they've only been open 7 or 8 months. We noticed they have a big selection of wine and the food smelt so good. We didn't eat since we had eaten prior to our arrival but next time we will.

AMAZING!!! It's so fantastic to find such a sweet spot in the neighborhood. 140+ wines available, yes there is beer. No don't bring your kids- it's not kid friendly. Tapas style dishes available. Fantastic service especially when it was pretty busy for a Sunday afternoon. This is a place that you can just chill out at. I wish they had a little outdoor space but you can't have it all I guess. It might get pretty loud if it's full. I loved it and I wish that I could keep it all to myself. Welcome to the neighborhood Vino Grotta!!!

Had an absolutely fabulous happy hour here! We enjoyed the special pricing on wine and sampled several appetizers--everything was delicious. The fried zucchini was the best I've had: perfectly crispy, not soggy like at most places. And the bread... still dreaming about it. Service was incredibly attentive and friendly. Highly recommend!

Amazing experience at Vino Grotta. Cozy restaurant vibes with an amazing wine list, tapas, live music (at least tonight), and convenient location. The service was prompt, ample parking, and fair prices. The owner came by and greeted us during our stay. Definitely recommend!

Had an amazing time at Vino Grotta. The atmosphere, service, food, and wine is amazing. I especially like the massive selection of different wines available by the glass. It allows me to try different varieties at one place.

As local residents who were eager to finally visit, our experience was disappointing, revealing a…read morenumber of issues that detract from the establishment's potential. Deficiencies in Service and First Impressions The initial experience upon arrival immediately set a negative tone. There was no staff presence at the door, and no clear, written signage indicating the proper protocol for seating--whether to wait, check in, or simply seat oneself. This lack of guidance forces guests into an awkward uncertainty, which is unacceptable for any hospitality business. After finding our own way to the covered patio, we observed servers casually chatting amongst themselves while intermittently looking in our direction. A more professional approach would involve staff being observant and quickly moving to acknowledge and seat new arrivals. When a server finally approached our table, the interaction was severely lacking in basic professional etiquette: * No greeting was offered. * No menus (drink or food) were provided. * The only opening line was an abrupt inquiry: "Are you ready to order?" These omissions suggest a fundamental lack of staff training in business etiquette and basic customer service procedures. A proper initial interaction should involve a warm welcome, an introduction of the server, and the immediate presentation of menus. Operational and Marketing Misalignment A major deficiency is the misalignment between the bar's online presence and its current operational reality. The website prominently states, "DRINK. EAT. VISIT.," creating an expectation that a food menu is available. We were informed by the server that the cook had quit and no food items were available. This is a critical failure in both operations and marketing transparency. The website must be immediately updated to reflect the current operating posture and manage customer expectations. The suggested workaround--ordering food from Fralo's Pizza next door--while a temporary solution, begs the question of why a patron wouldn't just choose to go to Fralo's directly. This situation undermines bar301's identity as a full-service establishment. Limited Offerings and Infrastructure Issues Further disappointment arose regarding the beverage service. Upon ordering frozen margaritas, we were informed that the bar does not prepare frozen margaritas. For an establishment specializing in drinks, a common and popular request like a frozen margarita should either be available or clearly noted as unavailable before ordering, especially given the lack of a drink menu. Beyond service, the physical space itself presents an issue. The location appeared unappealing and partially rundown. While the primary product is the experience, the ambiance is a critical component. Management needs to make a tangible effort to improve the aesthetic appeal and overall maintenance of the space to create a more inviting and lasting impression. Conclusion and Recommendations Our visit was cut short, as the cumulative impact of these deficiencies led us to seek an alternative venue (Silo Oyster Bar) where we anticipated a more professional and competent service standard. To improve customer experience and ensure long-term viability, bar301 management must immediately implement the following: * Mandatory Staff Training: Institute comprehensive training on basic business etiquette, professional greeting protocols, menu presentation, and proper table service. * Operational Transparency: Immediately update the website and any external marketing materials to accurately reflect the current food service status. * Front-of-House Management: Establish a clear and well-communicated seating protocol, including a dedicated host or signage for customer guidance upon entry. * Facility Upgrades: Invest in improving the appeal and maintenance of the space to align the physical environment with the perceived quality of a San Antonio destination. Addressing these critical points will be essential to make a better and lasting impression on both local and visiting customers.

I have been wanting to visit this place for a while since it opened. Because of mother's day it was…read morethe perfect opportunity to go. And it was a great experience! We did not have reservations and went knowing this. The hostess said it was a like 45 minutes to an hour wait. With being mothers day and all, we expected it. However they had a spritzer cart outside for the waiting patrons! Fantastic idea! It was warm but not too terribly hot when we arrived so we opted to brief look at their desserts and then went outside to a couple of tables. We then went to the spritzer cart and ordered a few drinks and it hi perfectly with the sunny weather. And after finishing the drink our table was pretty much ready. It was not even 30 minutes in waiting. Probably 20 minutes. We were sat at two round tables near the bar which was ok, but our daughter has a boot on for her foot but she managed ok. We weren't expecting that but it was ok. They didn't know. We were greeted by our server and promptly got our drink orders and all our food order. What we did was view the menu beforehand. We ordered three appetizers. The meatball ferris wheel, the grilled octopus, and Nonna's garlic bread. The drinks were all delish! The first app that came out was the garlic bread. I have to say is the absolute star of the food here. If you are here, please order it. It's the thing to have. And the butter that comes with it just elevated it to another level. It's that good. Actually better than the entrees in my opinion. The next was the meatball ferris wheel. This showcase the flavors of the entrees for me. It was indeed fun to see. Each meatball was really good and they didn't skimp on the meatballs here. It was very good and the temperature was perfect. The last was the grilled octopus. It was super tender and the sauce was good but we learned they used spicy peppers a lot in their dishes to bring out the flavors. This was the beginning and it was a solid level 1 of 5 of spice level. If you are not into spicy dishes they foreshadows a majority of the entrees here. The grilled octopus was great. And the potatoes go with it perfectly. For our meals, I got the spaghetti and red clam sauce which is spicy. My wife ordered the risotto pescatore, which is a seafood dish, and my daughter got the pork chop my way and she had it Parmesan style. The risotto pescatore came out first and it is supposedly spicy but because none of my family does spicy like me, the sis not as the peppers in the dish. And because of that, the dish tasted kind of bland and only tasted the seafood mixed together. Not bad but was unsatisfying unfortunately. So it's not the fault of the kitchen or chef. It's not made as listed so it will not really taste how it's supposed to m the server and manager pretty much came by and address the issue even though it's no fault of their own. They did offer her a side spaghetti l, which is more than enough at this point, because of all the appetizers we has filled up on. My spaghetti and red clam sauce was actually really good. I could taste the pasta being made in house. The clams with the spicy sauce was great and satisfying. The pork chop. It was just big. I mean hanging over the plate large. Our server and another server said it is big but that was the biggest pork chop they've ever seen come out of the kitchen. It was hilarious. But it tasted so good. Think chicken fried steak but pork chop. And it was delicious as well. Just too much for one person. Especially after all the appetizers! Dessert was the special they had for mother's day weekend. It was a raspberry tiramisu and it was so creamy and smooth. It was one of the better desserts I've had in a while. I also had a cappuccino and they was perfect as well. A great ending to to meal. We haven't eaten that much in a long time. The drinks and appetizers are spectacular. The entrees are good but not the stars of the show for us. But we enjoyed the food journey here!

One of the standout moments was the appetizers, especially the meatballs Ferris wheel -- a unique presentation that immediately sets the tone for the meal. It's playful, shareable, and surprisingly well-executed. The fresh pasta is another highlight. You can taste the quality in every bite, and the build-your-own pasta option is a great twist that lets you customize your dish without losing that traditional Italian foundation. It feels both familiar and inventive at the same time. Overall, this is a strong new addition to the San Antonio Italian scene. Great for groups, date nights, or anyone looking for something a little different while still getting solid, comforting Italian food done right.

A reviewer mentioned that being here gives the feeling of hanging in someone's wine cellar which is the impression I got as I set foot in here. With the word wine being the in name of the establishment, you will find an extensive selection of wines available by glass and bottle and categorized by white types and red types. Being a Zinfandel guy, the bartender turned me to the Girard "Old Vine" Zinfandel. This is a pricy wine at $25/glass. I enjoyed the hell out of it as it's one of the better Zinfandel's I've ever had. Definitely steep at $25. I probably should've gone with the wine flight which is what my friend did before he switched to a Malbec. I forgot which one he did but the flights are all prearranged to compliment one another. It makes for a nice experience if you're not sure what wine you want to zero in on. As for food, we paired our wine with a charcuterie board. It's a standard board with some baguette slices and a mix of cheeses and meats with a candied jalapeno spread. A very nice compliment to wine. They have happy hour, wine of the month, and a wine/dine theme for every month where they pair wines with a themed menu. Plus sangria is available as well. Also there is wine tasting every Wednesday so the place gets packed from what I heard. But I'd certainly be open to attending one. Can't wait to come back here!
