He was very patient and caring the entire time. The staff was also extremely professional, friendly and caring from the moment I arrived. The procedure was explained clearly, and they made me so comfortable throughout the visit. The staff Assistants - Anna and Monica were SO awesome, the front desk clerks - Gilma and Kat were absolutely wonderful! Everyone was so efficient, knowledgeable and attentive to my needs. I was referred to Dr. Calvert for a root canal on a fractured tooth. After a thorough evaluation and initiation of the procedure he informed me that the fracture was too deep and that a root canal was not the best option. He recommended that the involved tooth be extracted. He explained each step of the process in detail and kept me informed as we proceeded. He is funny, kind, gentle and extremely professional. I He made sure I had no pain. His assistant, Sonia, and his front desk staff are also top notch. I am so grateful that I was referred here. My regular dentist referred me to Dr. Nabipour about my tooth, which had an ancient root canal and a crown and was quite painful. The referral was sent on Wednesday afternoon and I was in Dr. Nabipour's chair by 8:45 AM the following morning. The Doctor and his assistant Jessica were professional, kind and personable, and they're very knowledgeable with a high level of expertise. Dr. Nabipour immediately diagnosed the problem and promptly fixed it. The whole procedure was PAINLESS!, even the novocaine shots were painless. This review is long overdue but I cannot recommend Oakland Alameda Endodontics enough. My regular dentist was out due to surgery and this is the office that was handling her emergencies while she recovered. I had a dental emergency happen around 3pm and was able to be seen that afternoon and everyone was so nice and accommodating. Gilma at the reception desk made me feel calm and comfortable while going through a traumatic situation. My dentist sent me to Oakland-Alameda Endontics after they identified what they thought was the need for a root canal. I was taken to a room where they administered what is called a cone beam CT scan. My endodontist, Dr. Nabipour, with the visual results from the cone beam scan, confirmed that I did have an infection. I thought Dr. Nabipour did an excellent job on my root canal. Something that needs to be mentioned is they used the Gentle Wave machine to clean out the residual pulp and bacteria in the canal and roots. Post root canal I did some research on the use of the Gentle Wave machine and available information on it was very positve with better outcomes than the older method of cleaning and disinfecting. read more

Earlier this year I found out that I would have to get a root canal. This was not only my first root canal, but also my first dental procedure of any kind (never even had a cavity filled). I was extremely anxious and the first endodontist I went to was very casual about the procedure and hardly explained anything. I knew I needed to find someone I could trust and who would put me at ease. I am so lucky that I received a recommendation for Dr. Calvert because I could not have found a more caring, informative, and patient provider. At my first visit he explained the diagnosis and procedure in great detail, answered all of my questions, and told me about my options to help reduce my anxiety (I went with the Ativan). I warned him and his staff that I would also need to bring a stuffed animal and noise cancelling headphones, which they were all perfectly fine with. On the day of the root canal I was still pretty nervous, but his assistant Maggie was exceptionally kind and told me exactly what to expect. Dr. Calvert checked in with me throughout the procedure to make sure I was doing okay, and at no point did I feel any pain. With the bite block for my jaw and the little curtain between my bad tooth and the rest of my mouth, I felt comfortable and distanced from all the action of the root canal. Afterwards I had very little pain and only needed a couple of ibuprofen over the next few days. I wound up needing a follow-up procedure a few weeks later, but this time I didn't need to take any anxiety medication. I knew I was in good hands. For the Oakland office: This office is really good and I'm a pretty miserable dental patient, so that's saying a lot. I was in a lot of pain due to an infection in a molar and the very helpful and friendly receptionist, Marisela, was able to fit me in same-day for a dreaded root canal with Dr. Auerbach. The Oakland office is located on a quiet street on Pill Hill where lots of other dentist are. Inside the waiting area is relaxing and well tended to with a marine-life theme throughout the office that works! Reception, again, were lovely, prompt and helpful. Not too much paperwork. Sonia called me back to do a CT scan and X-rays. She was very friendly, gentle and put me right at ease. She was there for the entire appointment, assisting the Dr. and her energy and presence was grounding. She was a good listener and very attentive. Dr. Auerbach was super solid, I'm relieved to say! You can really tell she knows what she's doing and seems to even have a passion for her work. She was also friendly, attentive and gentle, going really slowly with anything that might've been at all painful, numbing me up more than most upon request (I always need more) and reassuring me she would stop to give me more if I had any sensation at any point, which, at one point, I did (very slight), and she did! It was my furthest back molar and I'm sure it was a big challenge with my fussy neck (they gave me a pillow) and fussy jaw (couldn't open my mouth very wide so I'm sure she had very little room to work). They were so sweet and understanding and she worked confidently, efficiently and delicately. I loved that she showed me my X-rays and CT scans and explained her very thorough and gentle assessment very thoroughly! After she was finished, she showed me the X-ray of the tooth and it looked so much better than my prior root canals (also on the X-ray). I attribute this to the Gentle Wave technology she used which cleans the whole root system out very thoroughly, and to the exemplary talents of Dr. Auerbach and her stellar team! She called twice today to check on me. I can say I have the usual post-root canal soreness but that it is very easily managed with the simple ibuprofen treatment she prescribed and is already feeling a lot better after less than 24 hrs. I called reception about a billing question and Marisela again was very helpful, expedient and so nice! From start to finish it has been a pleasure to be able to put my trust in this team in a moment of pain and vulnerability! If I have any future endodontic needs, I will be reaching out to this office and Dr. Auerbach! read more

Dr. Jason Calvert and his assistant Monica are the "Dynamic Duo" to me. They present themselves in a calm, professional manner with a patient-friendly approach. For my initial root canal consultation, Dr. Calvert explained what he saw in my x-rays and how best to proceed. He listened carefully to my questions and responded with specific answers allaying any concerns I had. On the afternoon of my procedure, Monica greeted and made me feel at ease by explaining the initial procedures she would complete prior to Dr. Calvert beginning his work. Dr. Calvert then explained to me each of the steps he would perform so I knew exactly what to expect. Dr. Calvert also told me this procedure had benchmarks by which he would know we were on-track or if additional work might be required. It almost felt like Dr. Calvert was educating me in a brief, simplified version of "Root Canal 101". I really appreciated it! The way Dr. Calvert and Monica work together was impressive, too. Dr. Calvert would request a specific tool or fitting and Monica had it ready for him in nanoseconds. This was teamwork at its best. He was able to see me at the last minute, when a late afternoon opening occurred, and he attended to relieving the excruciating pain I was experiencing due to a dead root. Throughout the process, he was clear, concise, compassionate, and cordial, alerting me to each new phase of the procedure and moving with the kind of swift control that conveys the accuracy of professional experience - supported by alert and sympathetic Monica. Afterward, I went to my local pharmacy to pick up a small dose of prescribed vicodin only to discover that it was on back-order. The post-operation pain was crippling me, despite a dose of tylenol and ibuprofin, so I made an emergency call to the office, and despite it being after-hours, I was able to connect with Dr. Calvert who transferred the prescription to a nearby pharmacy. Now, without going into details of how, I must emphasize that he went out of his way to make this transfer happen before the pharmacy closed. This far exceeded my hopes; indeed, this whole experience restored for me a little faith in humanity. I cannot thank Dr. Calvert and Monica enough. read more

Christina was very upbeat and super nice! It is not her fault that there are no open appointments available sooner, so I didn't end up going there. I gave her 5 stars because even when I told her I was calling a few places she still helped me calculate how much I would need to pay out of pocket and checked my insurance. Thanks to her I knew the previous place my gen dentist referred was going to charge me ridiculously! Dr Calvert saw me on the same day I was referred to him. I was in so much pain, but he fixed it almost immediately. The shooting nerve pain was changed into a much more manageable dull ache that recovered very quickly. Before seeing Dr. Calvert, I couldn't drink cold water without killing myself with my bad tooth. I came here few months ago for a root canal and I'm so relived that I found this dental office. This was my first time here and I was seen by Dr. Unes Nabipour. I must say that Mr. Nabipour is very professional and makes you feel at ease. He gives you as much information about what's going on with your tooth and what he will perform and if you have any questions he makes sure to answer them all. My root canal took 4 hours, because my body wouldn't take the numbing agent, which is nothing new for me. Finally by the 4th try I was number pretty good and couldn't feel a thing when he was drilling and fixing my tooth. Also what took so long is that he also did a crown for my tooth to get it all over with so I wouldn't have to come back. My experience here was great and I honestly would recommend Dr. Unes Nabipour to anyone who needs a root canal. This office is clean, neat, professional and the dental assistants that work with him are very sweet and warm and make you feel at ease. Dr. Calvert treated me for a root canal my dentist had tried and failed to do (note to others, just go to the endodontist rather than letting your dentist give it a shot) and he was wonderful. It took some time to finally get the tooth to calm down, but he was very empathetic and took time to understand my history, current pain and problems. I even broke down crying at one point during the consult because I was feeling so frustrated and overwhelmed by how much pain I had been in for so long and he was very reassuring and calm - exactly what I needed before gearing up to be treated and getting it fixed once and for all. Turns out, the tooth that was treated had some extra root canals that wasn't evident in just regular x-rays. Dr. Calvert has a machine that takes 3D x-rays so it was possible to see where the small, and hidden canals were so he could properly take care of them. I'm now feeling much better and trying to find a new dentist that can do the cap so I'll be good as new! read more

I came in recently and didn't realize my first root canal was done here 10 years ago. I remember that process being painless and thorough. I came back in this time because I was having some mild pain in the same tooth and Dr. Calvert was informative and ran some tests on the tooth. He could have told me that I needed another root canal or he wanted to do root canal surgery but instead gave me a few other options that many other providers wouldn't have given. Clearly he's not driven by making money off his patients rather he is wanting to give his patients the RIGHT treatment. If I could give more than 5 stars I would give them 10. I fell on my face (literally) and caused traumatic injuries to my front teeth. I made an appt. and met with Dr. Calvert. During the consultation, Dr. Calvert explained everything that was wrong and what needed to be done (3 root canals) and answered any questions I had. The day of the procedure he explained everything again, he explained everything he was doing during the procedure as he was doing it and checked in with me throughout the procedure. People, I felt nothing, no pain or discomfort whatsoever during the procedure or after the procedure, I actually fell asleep during, this was one of the best dental experiences I have ever had. From the front desk personnel, to Sonia and Dr Calvert everyone was professional and the facility was very clean. There was no waiting, my appt was at 8am, I was in the chair at 8am. I went to see Dr Nabipour for a root canal. The moment I walked into the office, I felt welcome. Very warm environment. The front office staff were very nice and my wait was minimal. They have very relaxing videos and music playing in the waiting room. The Dr and his staff work very smoothly together. You can tell they get along well. I was given safety shades to wear and offered headphones to listen to music while they worked. My root canal was completed and Dr Nabipour has a gentle hand. Hello, Childrens - Would you like to hear a horror story about a terrible, painful root canal gone wrong?!?! Sorry; this isn't that review at all, but by all means: do read on, gentle Yelpers! I know you've missed me and my madness - never fear - I is here, and I'm up nine chapeaux so far this year, and I deem Oakland-Alameda Endodontics HATWORTHY in every way. Dear ones, as a professional who has worked in Healthcare and Finance since 1995, it's exceptionally difficult for clinical environments (both large and small) to impress me. I started off working with dentists (and specialists) so for the record, I am a difficult, highly-informed, hyper-observant, clinically savvy patient, borderline hypochondriac and prone to self-diagnosing. I am every clinician's dream and waking nightmare, depending upon context, of course. I have known and respected the work of BOTH locations of Oakland-Alameda Endodontics which are in... well, Oakland (Pill Hill with FREE parking - bonus!) and, naturally... Alameda (check the street signage) since 2007. The clinical assistants are warm, communicative and will immediately set you at ease. New patient and health history forms are available online to download in advance if you have a consultation or appointment scheduled, it's rather convenient. If you (or someone you care about) should be referred to the capable (and most importantly: BOARD CERTIFIED!!!) hands of Dr. Nabipour, Dr. Calvert and Dr. Panella on a same day basis, the forms are streamlined and take but a few moments to complete. Having worked with literally... hundreds of dentists in the past two decades, I will assure you that when I noticed something slightly... off, I didn't have to think twice about calling Oakland-Alameda Endodontics and waiting a few days to see Dr. Unes (think: "UNIC"/ycle) Nabipour. The reception area is calming - take a peek at the photography on the walls - for you geography and/or photography buffs, be sure to ask Dr. Nabipour where he was when he took the shots. I personally prefer this location (it's larger and feels more spacious) to the one in Alameda, though all three partners rotate and see patients at both offices. Okay: this is key - if you need to have a root canal (or any other 'specialty' procedure) you want the best, so never compromise, and ALWAYS see someone who is Board Certified: it means that they have done 2+ additional years of specialized study, training and have earned additional certification in their field. I know plenty of general dentists who know that it's in the best interest of all parties to refer all of their endodontic consultations and treatment out to this group practice because of the extremely high level of clinical experience and excellence. I especially like Dr. Nabipour's thorough and attentive approach, his impeccable credentials, clinical precision and easy smile. He's like... a fine, Swiss timepiece that you can also wear to the beach and surf in - yes, that's about right - he's like the Ulysse Nardin of Endodontics. All three partners are true professionals, and family men. They all radiate a sincere level of warmth, compassion and integrity without pretense. If that ringing endorsement (coupled with my own bountiful and stringent requirements) have not yet moved you, consider: * Cheerful, warm and GENTLE clinical assistants * Digital x-rays (less radiation; faster access to images * Microscopes in the rooms - used for consults and treatment! * Your teeth are bones, you want to keep them, and keep them healthy! * The absence of sensation in a tooth is not a good thing (leprosy, frostbite, anyone...?) * The best time to have an endodontic procedure is when you're comfortable, not after you've consumed all the expired antibiotics in the house and have a sour stomach after taking too much Tylenol!!!
