Had cataract surgery about 4 years ago with dr. Biggs. Very happy with the results. Opted to have the toric lenses with one eye for distance and the other for reading. The doctor stressed the importance of wearing contacts to see if you are comfortable with that scenario. I had worn them for years with no problems. Even though I hadn't worn contacts for quite awhile, I was confident they would work for me. He was able to Lazer some of the astigmatism in my eye for Distance which has given me the ability to read, drive and function without glasses which I had all my life. Had dry eyes for a short time after surgery but that improved quite quickly. I would recommend trying the contacts and see if you like them. I know this type of surgery is more than Medicare will cover but the results are worth the added expense No regrets even if I still needed glasses after surgery for driving. I was so sad when I had to leave my former eye doctor in Indiana but was referred to Dr. Biggs and staff by a friend. Three years ago I saw him for the first time and love his style and expertise. I appreciate that he talks through everything with you and allows you to be a part of the decision making process regarding your own health. Today I brought my teenage daughter in for her second visit. She now requires glasses so we went through our first experience selecting them here. I know that we could have taken her prescription elsewhere for a little less money but you can't beat the service that the staff gives here. My daughter felt confident that she picked the best style and fit for her face frame and is now actually excited for her glasses to arrive! I just called this place to make an appointment for my son and the woman that answered the phone was the rudest, most condescending person I've ever spoken to without meeting. I was recommended to make an appointment with an opthalmologist by my son's pcp and endocrinologist and psychologist in conjunction with a medical diagnosis. The woman on the phone kept asking me what for and why he was coming in, I read her the referral and she kept saying "I don't understand" and being super rude and saying "a psychologist referred you-I'm not understanding." I told her again his pcp who has the office in the same building sent over a referral and also recommended "I understand that but what for." I'm so sick of the covid excuse for crappy customer service and overall rude attitudes. I do not usually leave reviews or share my thoughts on individual businesses. I worked in retail and restaurants for most of my 20's and am from the mindset that a poor experience is not necessarily reflective of the overall business, but likely specific to that day or that person. Unfortunately, I have now been proven wrong multiple times by Oakland Eye Care and for the health and convenience of every client and patient out there, I feel that I must warn everyone of this terribly run, inefficient, and borderline damaging practice. My story, in short, is that in order to start a new prescription for an autoimmune disease I have, I needed to have some eye tests done. Because of this autoimmune disease, I have been in about a dozen different doctor's offices in the last two years and never has one been run so poorly as this one. The day of my exam started out fine. Normal intake paperwork accompanied by a friendly greeting. After a very short time, I was met by a technician who brought me over for a few of the basic exams. I sat in the chair and put my chin in all of the miscellaneous machines as they beeped and lit up and everything went fine. The tech was friendly and I explained how I need certain tests for a new prescription medication and she understood. Then things got a little dicey. The technician explained she was going to dilate my pupils. Something I've had done several times over my 20+ years wearing glasses. The thing that stuck out to me is that she specifically told me: "We do things a little different here and we are going to give you two drops instead of one so they stay dilated longer." I didn't think too much of it at the time. I didn't know what these tests were that I needed and I assumed that's just what they had to do. She then guided me down the hall to another smaller waiting room. This waiting room was about 10'x12' and had zero social distancing protocols put into place. That was a little frustrating, but I was masked and had my phone for distractions and entertainment, so it was fine. This is when the waiting began. I sat there for 30 minutes. They must be a little busy today. An hour. Wow, really busy. When I hit 90 minutes, my eyes straining from the lights and my phone screen combined with the dilation, I pulled a nurse/technician aside and asked how much longer it was going to be. She explained I had one person left in front of me and that the doctor likes to make sure he spends as much time with each patient as the patient requires. After the nurse/tech walked away, the other people in the waiting room chuckled a bit. They informed me that it is always like this. One lady said she had been coming here for years and it has always been like this. This was just the way it was run. It was about this time I realized the most disturbing thing of all about this practice and this office. Two drops. They give you two drops to dilate your eyes longer. Not for any medical reason. Simply because they run their office so inefficiently, that they know you're going to be waiting for long enough that they need to give you two drops. Considering the discomfort and inconvenience that dilation provides, one could argue that this is almost directly in violation of the Hypocratic oath. In order to fit their standard of poor time management and maximized income over patient care, they have made the patient pay; with their time, their discomfort, and ultimately, their frustration. I am writing this review 24 days since that exam. When I called to explain I had never received any call back or information from my tests, I was forwarded to a voicemail and told to leave a message. Do not go here. This office is a dangerous place with more focus on squeezing as many patients in as possible and maximizing their income, than on actual patient care. Anyone involved in the decision making and planning of how this office is run should be wildly ashamed of themselves and not be allowed to make decisions on an executive level. Final bullet points: · Communication: To say there is an issue with communication, both between staff and with patients, would be a gross understatement. They are absolutely appalling. · Patient Care: This may be the biggest issue and likely a violation of a number of oaths or laws or both. Two drops to dilate to make up for a poorly scheduled and run office is beyond unacceptable. Anyone involved in creating this practice should be fined, fired, and made to attend some form of program. · Scheduling: It's okay to turn away new patients if you're too busy. If you are sacrificing patient care to bring in more income, you are in the wrong field. read more

2 years ago i went to Oakland eye care for a check up. I arrived on time and waited for 45 minutes in the front lobby. Seeing i was getting anxious they put me in a room where i waited another 45 minutes while listing to my dr (Biggs) boast on his golf game in the room next to mine. Here it is 2 years later i force myself to make another appointment with Biggs @ Oakland eye care. My appointment was at 2 pm i called and let them know i would be 10 minutes late..i figured i would just be sitting around waiting at least for the first half hour anyway.. needless to say i finally got out of there at 5:30 pm with a total of 20 minutes of testing. Thats 3 hours of sitting. That is NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! why are people putting up with this incompetents? Then they had the gaul to sign a form saying i agree to pay a fee if i miss an appointment. I see a few good reviews..must be family or friends. Or simply mentally handicapped. read more

Thank goodness this isn't my regular Ophthalmologist! I went to urgent care for pink eye, but the NP thought it was too severe for pink eye so suggested I get in with Dr. Biggs ASAP. They called and made the appointment for me, which was nice! Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful for the last-minute appointment but it ended up being a total waste. It took 2.5 hours!!! The waiting room was packed. The carpet was filthy. I knew immediately it was going to be an annoying appointment. I got taken back to the room to describe my symptoms to the nurse after an hour... then sent back out to the waiting room for another hour... then called back and sat in the room by myself for another 30 minutes. When Dr. Biggs came in he refused to shake my hand because I "might have an infection." Well, you're a doctor and your practice is across from the McLaren Emergency Room... infection is all around you. Maybe wash your hands?? Put gloves on and change them? Refusing to shake my hand was as rude as it gets. Once he diagnosed my eye with pink eye, he said I could continue the eye drops prescribed by urgent care "if I wanted" and the oral antibiotic "if I wanted to." YOU'RE THE DOCTOR!!!!!!! Dr Thomas Biggs is one of the best doctors I have ever been to. I had came In for an urgent appt he was very precise, wore gloves because I was dealing with an infection and told me what to do which actually worked after going to urgent care a couple of visits.Working for the CDC (I have seen some very filthy places). I've been going to this practice for 2 years, and have visited both offices (they are also in the McLaren Bldg. on Sashabaw Rd.). All of their office personnel are efficient, knowledgeable, and very friendly - making this doctor visit a very pleasant experience! Dr. Rebecca Keagy is very friendly and personable, and is very clear in describing any tests and findings. Laura was extremely helpful in selecting glasses and making sure they were properly fitted.
