Dr. Hamid is amazing, her office is clean and efficient, and staff is very friendly. I feel completely safe and well-cared by both Dr. Hamid and her staff. This morning I called them because I had been in some pain all weekend. They were able to see me by noon. They took x-rays, Dr. Hamid reviewed them, set me on a course of antibiotics and pain medication, and referred me to an Endodontist, all within with 30 minutes. I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I've been a repeat customer at Oakland Green Dental for years and kept forgetting to submit a review. It's a reflection about my feelings towards Yelp; it does not reflect my experience with Dr. Hamid and her staff, who have been nothing but great. I first discovered Oakland Green Dental by word of mouth; I've returned the favor by recommending Dr. Hamid to friends for the following reasons. Unlike other dental offices I've visited in the past, I have never once felt pressured by Dr. Hamid or her staff to get any "extra" services. Unlike other dental offices, Dr. Hamid has never recommended that I get a new filling (or to replace a filling) simply because there was one faint "shadow," visible to no one but the dentist, in one X-ray on one occasion. (That is, no monitoring, no historical presence / absence of the "shadow.") Unlike other dental offices, Dr. Hamid has never told me I would need a root canal unless I got that "shadow" replaced with a filing. I emailed Dr. Hamid's office during Memorial Day weekend. I had a throbbing toothache, desperation, and no health insurance. I don't even live in CA anymore, I was on vacation. They miraculously were able to treat me & here's what I loved about the office: - Dr. Hamid is from the Bay, born and raised. The office is proud of that heritage (includes a Warriors poster on the wall) - The place is immaculately clean & well-organized. - The staff is professional, efficient, and considerate. - They treat you like a human being & accommodate your needs. - I needed liquid antibiotics & she took the time to call multiple pharmacy's to make that happen. She also made sure to tell me that the medication would affect birth control pill effectiveness. Bless her for caring about reproductive choice & health!! - She did the thing where they shake your mouth to decrease the needle pain - She gave me advice about preventative care without disdain, without judgement. - Her assistant was wearing an artificial lei (flower necklace) to celebrate going on vacation. It just put me at ease. They are an office that cares about joy & preventing illness & pain. I have terrible childhood memories of dentists, this office changed that for me. Honestly, the atmosphere is what truly impressed me. Free tea & water, comfortable chairs in the lobby, and a staff of mostly women. They communicated with each other and had some good natured laughs. When their patients came in, they greeted them immediately & even had graduation gifts for them! Depending on how my follow up appointment in NV goes, I may fly back to the Bay for future treatments. I ain't ballin' but there are some things worth paying for. read more

Oakland Green Dental is the best dental practice I have ever known. Dr. Hamid, Blanca and Krista are an amazing team: gentle, compassionate, smart, nurturing and just all-around lovely people. When another dentist told me I needed twenty-thousand dollars worth of gum surgery, Dr. Hamid (understanding I don't have dental insurance) found a way to treat and heal my gums without needing surgery. In just six months, my gums have already started to heal themselves, which just goes to show the power of nature--and the power of women who understand the holistic nature of dental care. I must admit I love the convenience of her location, validated parking & my teeth are clean & healthy because of Shaya & her friendly Staff! I came to Oakland Green Dental several weeks ago to take advantage of the teeth whitening coupon I purchased on Groupon. Everyone in the office was super friendly and greeted me very warmly. I appreciated the fact that the practice supports green practices and has the latest, most up to date equipment available. Unfortunately, the teeth whitening procedure was awful, probably the worst I've ever had. The apparatus you had to wear was so uncomfortable and the gel really hurt my teeth, and I generally do not have sensitive teeth. I only managed to get through two of the three cycles before I gave up, mostly due to the apparatus that was just killing my mouth. The techs seemed to be genuinely disappointed that I didn't want to finish the procedure, but I had had enough by that point. They were very kind throughout the entire process, checking on me every few minutes to see how I was doing, and were very professional. If I didn't have a DDS that I simply adore, I would definitely consider switching to Oakland Green Dental. Just stay away from the teeth whitening! read more

Thank goodness for Dr. H. R. Hamid! On the way home from work Saturday evening, my honey started having tooth pain, so I yelped emergency dentists and this office came up as the only one available in our area actually available 24/7! The dentist was super friendly and met us in his office to fix him up quickly... Dr. Hamid numbed his mouth up and extracted the tooth in minutes! Now, my sweetie is planning on changing his dentist to Dr. Hamid because of his great care and help tonight. BONUS! Dr Shaya Hamid and her team are exceptional. I have a high bar since my uncle was a dentist and took care of my teeth with extra attention growing up. I am also not an ideal patient since I have had Lyme disease for many years, and need to have special hand cleaning techniques to avoid triggering my nerve pain. Dr Hamid has noted this in my file and always remembers. She and her staff are very patient, gentle and put you at ease. They have lots of technology, but don't push it on you if you don't want it. Last appointment I had for a cleaning, they called to tell me Dr Hamid was not going to be able to be in the office that day, did I want to reschedule? I decided to go ahead with cleaning anyway, since her whole team is great. When she came in the next morning, she reviewed my chart and X-rays and called me because there were some changes in my teeth due to acidification. She suggested how to fix it, but then said "we need to figure out what is causing this!" and started asking me a bunch of questions related to diet, sleep, and so on. She went into full detective mode! We DID figure it out, and I'm so incredibly grateful! It feels good that someone cares enough to solve the real problem, not just bill for procedures! (I only wish the many doctors I've been through showed as much care as she does, but that's another story...) Kudos to Dr Hamid! I discovered this place though a groupon that I purchased. The first time I met Dr. Hamid he was very personable, and immediately noted my teeth even before examining me. I can only speak from my own experiences, but I'm more than satisfied with the care that was provided by Dr. Hamid. I was informed in advance with the details of what procedures were to be performed. It was my first time to have my teeth "Deep Cleaned". I must admit that it was an experience, but no surprises that I couldn't live with. When I finally had my teeth whitening for the first time, once again I was informed of what to expect.. I was told that there was a possibility of some discomfort, and if at ANY TIME to let someone know if I experienced any. I was checked on a regular basis to see if I was doing OK. I didn't notice any significant change after the my teeth whitening, but after looking again under a different light I could see the difference. I have also received compliments on my teeth from individuals who didn't know that I went to the dentist recently. I've seen some reviews here and it seems some patients were not satisfied. I don't think that I have an exceptionally high tolerance for discomfort, but perhaps some have an exceptionally low level for it. Located a few minutes from the MacArthur BART, it is a few minutes walk if you aren't in a hurry. There is metered parking on the street, and a parking garage. If you drive and still have complaints, then maybe you shouldn't own a car. Insurance, fuel, maintenance, and parking costs all come with owning a vehicle. When I have the time I take BART, and when I'm short on time I drive and get there early enough to find parking and make my appointment. The staff is excellent,accommodating and I look forward to my next visit. I can't say that a visit to the dentist is high on my list, but I'm glad that it is with Dr. Hamid when I do have to go! When I met Dr. Hamid I legitimately could not understand why she was no kind and excited and jubilant. Are you even the dentist?! Where is your frown and scary tools?! How could you smile before the pain I know is in store?! This is because I was once a kid who waited in the dental DMV line at Western Dental to have unskilled training dentists extract some of my teeth and do root canals on the state's dime. I was never spoken to by these monstrous dentists and had no idea about things like, getting a crown to finalize the root canal. So of course, the root canals broke within a few months. These were two molars, top and bottom on one side. I couldn't chew on this side of my Mouth for years. I was too terrified to ever go back to a dentist because I feared there was nothing left for them to do but take out all of my teeth, so I lived miserably. 5 years later, I got a job with real dental benefits.. and wisdom teeth. The excruciating pain of an infection had me looking to jump off of a rocky cliff, I mean, find my first REAL dentist! I found Dr. Hamid. After my first visit I understood why she was so nice. Because she just is!!! I can confidently say that she has got to be a top 10 dentist of all in the world (okay, I don't have a ton of experience to compare her to, but trust me). She and her assistant (who is also top 10 dental assistant in the world, although I forgot her name I like her very much!) are excellent and incredibly efficient at making a dental visit a happy experience, and prioritizing my dental work in a way that helps me get the most important stuff done so I can maximize my insurance etc. I can tell they all care about the patients! Dr. Hamid has successfully repaired the mistakes made by those other *dentists* (aka Western Dental's army of Satan), and fixed other things that happened in my mouth during the years of my dental sabbatical. To top it off, she has NEVER hurt me. What more can you ask for?? I was scared, nervous, and embarrassed to go to a dentist with all of these issues in my mouth. Now, I am excited to go to the dentist every time I have an appointment at Oakland Green Dental. :) read more

Yes, Yes, Yes, everything yes. First of all, the office was easy to find, nice, clean, and modern. I went in because for the past 10 years I have had a tiny flap of gum over my last wisdom tooth that came in. It has gotten infected maybe 3 times over the past 10 years, and usually I just use hydrogen peroxide and it gets better. This time, it was just still bothering me because it was swollen and I kept chewing it and it just hurt like a bitch. Every dentist I have been to since I was 18 has tried to convince me to get my wisdom teeth out even though they are perfectly fine (straight, not really any cavities, etc.), probably just to get some $$. However, I don't take going under anesthesia lightly, or spending a couple g's on ripping teeth out of my face lightly (no dental insurance), so I never got it done, and I had a feeling in the back of my mind that my wisdom teeth are 100% fine, since my first dentist in high school said they would come in all crooked and mess my mouth up, and another dentist more recently said they would all get infected and cavitied up and essentially rot away in my mouth, and neither of those things happened. When I went to Dr. Hamid, I was very nervous that she might try to get me to have the wisdom teeth taken out, but I was so ecstatic that she just said, "oh we'll just laser off this pesky little flap of gum that is catching food particles!" She was also very personable and friendly, and offered me a cost effective (and very reasonable) solution to my minor problem. Her light conversation was the perfect distraction from any discomfort, which was minimal. Even the numbing seemed better than usual - it was very localized and didn't last too long after the procedure. The procedure itself was quick - it probably took about 10 minutes, and it seriously feels like I have a whole new mouth. I enjoyed my visit so much that I scheduled a cleaning there for next month. read more

I went to Shaya at Oakland Green Dental to get routine xrays and it turned out I needed a filling. The whole time I was getting the filling Shaya seemed really casual. A little too casual. Within ten minutes of starting the filling she said she was done and I was on my way. That same tooth started hurting real bad. I contacted Shaya and came in to get that filling looked at. She said it just needed to be grinded down. She grinded it down. In that same appointment she referred to a group of people as retards. Woah. It continued hurting, so I went and got it ground down a second time. It continued hurting. I went back in. She put something on top of the filling to hopefully numb it. It continued hurting. So I made another appointment to have her drill it out and re-fill it. I showed up to the appointment and she wasn't even there. Another person came in for my exact same booking. Over the span of 6 months Shaya only offered superficial fixes to a problem that was giving me a ton of abnormal pain. Now that I've gone to a different dentist I have found out that I need a root canal because Shaya did not drill out the cavity properly the first time. Would not recommend going to Oakland Green Dental. Edit: After posting this review Shaya called my personal phone and shouted at me for posting a negative review on yelp. read more
