Their standing x-ray machine is a little difficult for taller people with broad shoulders but that was the only negative from the whole experience. I had a cap break and though it's less convenient for me than when I lived nearby, I decided to go back to Laurel Smile Dentistry, where I had the work done some 10 or more years ago. The owner Mussie Shibato is brilliant when it comes to this type of work, an artist, and with a lab right across the hall your caps or implants are ready in days rather than weeks. The office complex on MacArthur is state of the art and staffed by the best in the biz, great people as well. It feels as much like an afternoon with good friends as it does a trip to the dentist. Since changing to Laura Smile, I have had the best dental experience in all of my 43 years of life . Today, I was in for a cleaning and they had an actual menu to select from of items I might want to make myself comfortable: blankets, headphones, lip balm, stress ball, etc. And this wasn't on a piece of paper-this was a processionally prepared book, one you would find at a restaurant for the cocktail or wine list menu. I should have taken a picture . The care I received was gentle yet you know and feel the work taking place; I especially appreciate the education they provide. This whole experience was a 20/10! NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE. Went here and PAID for a consultation to ensure I would be treated with care after decades of severe dental trauma and the entirety of information given during paid consult was completely disregarded when I went to see Dr.Pollack who made several inappropriate and disrespectful personal comments multiple times while performing my dental work including publicly in the hallway attempting to diagnosis my fear of dentistry as "untreated PTSD"..upon being publicly humiliated in this office, mocked for wanting family members present for emotional support and having her drill without proper anesthesia TWICE (very painful) I contacted the manager Michelle to report the experience who then dismissed it entirely and never returned my calls or emails. I have never been treated so poorly by a business, never been disrespected by a medical practitioner in public nor ignored by the manager of a facility. They took THOUSANDS of my dollars to publicly humiliate me perform painful dental work without proper anesthesia and then dismiss my experience and never follow back up. The experience was TRAUMATIC and added to already pre-existing dental trauma that comes from offices with the same money hungry money first attitude over patient care and service. They also have dental assistants wearing meta-glasses recording patients violation of hippa privacy and patient privacy. Michelle (manager) completley disregarding all of my concerns and never responded to these incidents when they were kindly reported. I cannot believe the treatment I experienced here it is truly mind blowing. What is the point of charging people several hundred dollars just to get a consult to disregard everything the consult explores? This business prioritizes dentists who are disrespectful and make inappropriate comments to patients undergoing treatment over patient care. Were there any consequences for the dentist who did not even properly numb me before drilling into my face then mocking me for crying due to pain? Absolutely absurd management and nightmare experience. Thousands of dollars into the pockets of careless people with no concern for patient trauma or safety. This does not represent what the community of Oakland stands for. ZERO STARS. Worst dental experience of my life and that says a lot. read more

I was in the Bay Area on vacation and began experiencing tooth pain on a Saturday. I called Laurel Smile first thing Monday morning based on their Yelp reviews and I was not disappointed. The receptionist was very helpful and managed to squeeze me that evening. I saw Dr. Ha who was personable and friendly and explained all the things that could be the cause. I was hoping it was because I'd been lax in wearing my night guard and my tooth was just sore, but unfortunately an X-ray revealed a significant area of infection under a tooth, so I will need a root canal. Dr. Ha explained what this would entail and my options to move forward, as well as referring me to an endodontist in the area. After my appointment, the office staff promptly (the same evening, even though my appt was at 5pm!) emailed me copies of my X-ray, Dr. Ha's clinical findings, and the referral. This dental office is better than the dentist I see in my home city, and the admin staff are top-notch. The only slight negative was that the online intake forms were SUPER long. No one wants a dental emergency on vacation, but Laurel Smile made the experience as good as it can be! read more
