Considering that indoor shopping malls are dying out all over the country the Oakland Mall is holding up pretty well. No, it's not Somerset, but the overwelming majority of people in metro Detroit can't afford to shop at Somerset anyways. My hunch is that there are a lot of people who go to Somerset acting like they can afford to shop there (Look at me), but they really don't spend much money. The Oakland Mall is hardly ghetto. This area can be very racist so I think that may just mean that it's not white enough. The mall is clean and has a relatively modern decor. I love the person who wrote that the parking is terrible because they had a long way to walk to the store. IT'S A SHOPPING MALL, if you can't walk you should stay at home and buy things on the internet. The bottom line is that it's a mall in the year 2011. With the internet and big box stores indoor shopping malls just aren't what they use to be. If someone doesn't like the Oakland Mall my suggestion would be that they find a time machine and go back to the 1970's when malls were in their heyday. read more

Standard mid-range mall. It used to be nicer some years ago, these days it's somewhat overtaken with teenagers and folks coming here just to hang out because they have nothing else to do all day. It's not as pretty as Partridge Creek or Somerset, and but it serves its purpose. All the stores I like are here, and I'm always in and out quickly with bags of purchases in hand. read more

Hmmm.... Oakland Mall is JUST OK. When I was in high school, we would skip lunch and head out this way just to check out the Express, Limited, VSecret's, Wet Seal, Nine West and 5-7-9. Of course that was years ago, but the selection is pretty much the same. The layout of this mall is pretty lame, if you ask me. It's mainly one floor but then there is a bi-level wing that pretty much carries nothing spectacular. I guess this mall seems so boring because it is super close to the Somerset Collection (which is super duper). The prices are reasonable. I think this is the perfect mall to go to if you need to buy a last minute Mother's Day or Father's Day gift. lol. You will always find something, and if not there is always the Steve & Barry's Store to get school paraphernalia from.. like a "Proud Parent of Michigan Alumni"..or something like that. :-) read more

This mall gives off such a nice and new vibe even if it's not, (and trust me when I say I've been to my fair share of shopping malls.) I saw maybe one or two closed and empty stores, but the rest of the place was fine. I picked up a few shirts, some perfume, and CDs from several spots inside. This mall looks like an relic from the 70's-80's. You can at least tell from the inside that this place used to be the hippest thing around Troy. Unfortunately, age has done its work, and now it just looks crumbling. You will see plenty of no-name stores selling clearance items. The food court is also dismal. At least the big anchor stores are still around. read more

I remember when this mall used to be THE place to go to. It's sad to see the decline, especially after so many of the GOOD brands closed their stores and now they are filled with stores that people have never heard of. it's your average mall with a handful of good stores still there. The huge forever 21 that reopened after its renovation about a year or two ago has definitely boosted the volume of people shopping at the mall. read more

JC penny's does a really good job of displaying great looking shoes and clothing that isn't in stock.

I have been going to this mall for a LONG time. In a time when there was also a "Universal Mall" in Metro Detroit, this was the "Good Mall". While it has gone through some changes, and perhaps not all of them good, its still a pretty solid place to shop. read more

all american mall. large anchor stores; and lots of teenagers hanging out its conveniently located at a majorcross roadsso that makes it convenient. this mall has a macys so that upscales it somewhat. I also enjoy the Krispy Kreme drive through eachtime I'm in that area. read more

Small mall but still fun if you only have a few hours and don't want to walk forever in a huge mall!

I like Oakland Mall for one reason. The play area for the kiddies! Woo-whoo! I let my son run and play here until he is exhausted! When he is not running all over the place the mall offers these cool carts for kids when you don't feel like bringing the stroller. I like the selection of the stores. The Macy store is one of the better ones as well. I think that the mall has a good mix of chain and independent stores. Breaks up the monotony of shopping when every store isn't just like the stores you shopped the previous week at a different mall. The other reason this mall is OK with me is because no matter the budget I can find something. If it's $8.98 in Steve and Barry's or going over the budget in Macy's, I usually find something! read more

This mall will be in for a rude awakening if it cant get it's act together soon. The Sears closed as one of the major anchors and that is a big setback. Rather than capitalize on the successful tool, battery brands they sold them off. Problem is, they're still carrying Kmart and clothing lines nobody wants. Back to the mall, the maps are placed where nobody goes and most of the attendants are foreign born and don't know where anything is. It took several attempts to find Kerbys, Lane Bryant and a store that sells tank tops. Aside from that it's clean but overflooded with jewelry shops managed by greasy lowdown merchants. There's very few food options, the A and W is pitiful. JC Penney is but a shadow of its former self. Parking is plentiful, location is great and the buildings are sound! My suggestion to management is try to reinvent the mall and make it attractive to new shoppers. That does not mean physical changes. That involves market studies and attracting merchants that will attract shoppers demanding excellent customer service. read more

This mall looks like it needs major updating. I visited a few months ago and the mall looked like a dump. This mall had nothing special other than the fact that there was an arcade and a Krispy Kreme across the street. The arcade was decent but there weren't too many games, or fun games for that matter. I would only go to that area for Krispy Kreme but that is about it. I live by Twelve Oaks Mall, so I would rather go there. read more

Its a mall pretty much like the others here. It has the basics Sears, JC Penney and Macy's.

This mall is in a prime location and can't keep stores open. Get some businesses people will actually go to instead of giving them reasons too order on Amazon. read more

Oh how the mighty have fallen. A once great mall is now falling to shambles before our very eyes, much like northland before it. The mall feels unclean, and much of the sales staff is apathetic. The few decent stores are this places saving grace, but even they won't hold out forever. read more

I can say that this is an ok mall. I don't particularly love it but I do shop here once in a while. It is pretty clean and looks like a nice space, it has some of my favorite stores and around the holidays it is festive and inviting. I use to shop at Oakland Mall all the time when I was younger so I have a lot of memories here. I do not know about shopping here too often now as an adult. It is more or less a kids mall and it is fun for the younger generation but not for me on a consistent basis. read more

I feel like the glory days of Oakland Mall are behind it, but they've been putting some effort into cleaning and remodeling, so perhaps it can stay afloat. Olga's and Macy's are my biggest reasons for going, but there isn't really anything here that you can't find at most other malls. read more

What has happened to this place? The stores are actually fine, but walking around in the mall is just kind of unpleasant. They have put in some new stores and finally got an H&M, but now it is time to clean up and improve the common areas. I really don't know why they would completely remove the entire kids play area either. I know that play areas in malls are germ infested mad houses, but on a cold or rainy day it is worth it! read more
