This location is amazing! I've been a customer for awhile. They have not turned it into an event space. Great location !

I first found this store three years ago and have been a regular customer ever since. I haven't had better customer service anywhere else. Two floors and the widest selection of special occasion shoes and bags. If you can't find it here it doesn't exist. If they don't have your size they will have it sent from another store, what more could you want?? Shoe heaven! read more

It pains me to write a review of this store that isn't 5-stars. In a word, I'm a shoe lover. My friends know it, I own it, I get happiness in shoes. So when I walked into Village Shoe Inn, I thought I'd discovered Nirvana. The selection: amazing. Two levels (!) of every shoe imaginable. I could spend a whole day here in a shoe-induced stupor, and come back the next day ready for more. BUT What prevents me from giving 5 stars, or 4 for that matter, is the return policy, and the inflexibility of the employees. It's as if this establishment knows they have one of the best selections in town, decent (not great, mind you) prices, and therefore don't need to offer acceptable customer service. I purchased a pair of shoes on July 8. As a busy professional and mom, I didn't have time to return them in the required 10 days. I went in today to return my shoes and was met with a stone-faced, inflexible worker who absolutely refused to offer anything but a store credit. Granted, I would have been totally fine with a store credit - it's not like I won't spend it. But I take issue with a business's absolute refusal to work with customers. Today is the 19th; I was ONE DAY late with the return and was basically told, "Sorry. Nothing I can do." In this competitive environment, I'm surprised that Village Shoe Inn isn't more willing to accommodate a customer. It's unfortunate. I will indeed spend my store credit at some point in the future; Im nothing if not cost conscious. But Village Shoe Inn, you've discarded an opportunity to build brand loyalty or return business from this shoe lovin' girl. read more

Village Shoe Inn always has some great deals and a considerable selection of attractive shoes. Be prepared to spend a long time browsing through everything as there is much to see. Helpful staff will check other locations if you can't find the size/color of something you are interested in. read more

Ah shoes...my first love... The Shoe Inn in downtown Rochester is my favorite place to go to find unique shoes for whatever occasion, a challenge in the land of chain stores. It's a very cute converted house with shoes, handbags and accessories from floor to ceiling. They seem to turn over merchandise fairly quickly, so you won't find many sales, but the cool things you can find are definitely worth the price (which is comparable to department stores, and often less). read more

THANK GOODNESS I FOUND THIS PLACE!!! I have the hardest time shopping for my wife, she is honestly one of the pickiest people I know (bless her heart). Like most women, shoes are one of the only things that make her happy, which makes things tough for me when it comes to gifts. I have been to the Village Shoe Inn 3-4 times in the past two years, and it has been a blessing to say the least! Me being the rugged, manly-man that I am, going into a women's shoe store would usually be an awkward experience. NOT HERE. Everyone was SO helpful, all I had to do was give a description of what my wife's shoe closet looks like, and I had no less than 10 options shown to me. To make things easier, there was even a younger gentleman that worked there that knew exactly how I was feeling, and he knew as much about women's shoes as I do about fishing trout! That being said, I would suggest this place to anyone who is in the market for women's shoes- even guys like me who are trying to bribe their wives with gifts so they are allowed to go hunting with their buddies! read more

If you are looking for great experience, customer friendly, honorable business policy this is NOT the place to go!!! Very closed minded when it comes to options, unreasonable policy that does not work with your situation no matter what?? You would think you are buying Burberry, LV??? Come on!!! I had such a great experience at this place. Although I didn't end up leaving with a pair of shoes for my event the woman who helped me (Colleen I believe?) was such a pleasure to work with. She seemed very knowledgeable about color, styles, etc. It's often hard for me to shop nowadays without feeling pressured to buy something (especially if the employee spends a good amount of time with you) and I felt so comfortable here. I am the definition of a shoe addict and definitely get my fix the moment I walk into this wonderful store and never walk out with at least 1 pair of shoes!! It is a good sized refurbished home for all your shoe, handbag and accessory needs :) Wall to wall and basement to attic full of shoes for ANY occasion! The turn over on their merchandise is quick which doesn't allow for a ton of sales (like your DSW's) but the latest fashions and styles are ALWAYS on the shelves!! The prices are varied from your 10-20$ flip-flops to your top shelf designer pumps!! Styles and price ranges for everyone!! If you are in the Rochester area, visiting this store is a MUST! and if you aren't from the area the drive is definitely worth it! I don't shop anywhere else! read more

Don't bother driving out to the mall until you have stopped here first! They have the best selection and I always find hard to match colors here! I have a dress with copper and brown rhinestone trim and they have heels to match perfectly. Great place to buy shoes for special occasions! read more

Recently I brought my 80 year old mother into this store. My mother has a hard time walking and because she has problems with swelling she has a hard time finding shoes. The employees at this store went over and beyond to help her find a shoe that she was comfortable in. They brought every shoe to where she was sitting and actually put them on her feet for her. Shopping with my mother is usually very difficult and it feels really great to now have a place that makes things a little bit easier. read more

I thought I found a great pair of boots, and even wore them out the store after my (cash) purchase. However, while walking out the door, the zipper split. The cashier at the time offered me two choices: I could return them for a refund, or they could be sent out for repair (have the zipper replaced). I really loved the boots, so I opted for the repair, which would be done in 3-4 days. The store never called, so I followed up about 10 days later. As it turns out, the repair shop hadn't done anything with the boots, because they couldn't reproduce the error. (Which, naturally occurs only while wearing them). No problem,right? I'll just return them. Nope. The new clerk flatly stated store policy: we NEVER give refunds, especially for cash, regardless of reason. Store credit only. The cashier refused to put me in touch with the owner, who was on the phone to check the status of the repair. Sure, I'll be compelled to use the store credit, but I'm afraid I don't recommend the store due to their inability to accomodate a very simple return of defective product. I'm not mad, I just won't shop there again, and I would steer other shoe-lovers away from this particular store. UPDATE: after notifying the store about this review on Yelp, the district manager called me and offered a full cash refund, which I accepted. Therefore, I feel I have been made "whole", if a bit inconvenienced. Increasing my rating from 1 to 3 stars. read more

This used to be my go to place for shoes because they had such a wide selection. But they have really gone downhill in the past year or two. They used to be completely full of shoes but now their second level is half empty. On this most recent visit I saw 2 styles that I liked, but they only had a few sizes of each and mine wasn't one of them. I probably won't return. read more

The return policies are terrible. Size choice not good. I don't want to put down s 10.00 deposit on a pair of shoes to come from another store and have to drive back. And when they offer to special order a shoe for you sure they are quick to take your money for the order and good luck if you get your shoes on time read more

I grew up in the Rochester area, and Village Shoe Inn has been open for a very long time...but with the absolute rudeness and inflexibility of the employees and management is unacceptable. My mother bought a couple pairs of shoes to go with her dress for my wedding. With only a 10 day window to return shoes, she had very little time to schedule a fitting and try on the shoes with her dress. She walked with the shoes on ONLY in the house, to further determine if they were comfortable to wear for a long, special day. Once she tried them on she realized that another pair would work better, so she went back to return the Village Shoe Inn pair. It was within the 10-day window, and the shoes had NOT been worn outside. So according to the Village Shoe Inn rules, she should be able to return them, right? Not so. They looked at the bottoms on the shoes (which were light tan), and saw a couple scuff marks. Which could have happened just from people trying them on in their own store, since it's a very light color on the bottom! My mom explained that she followed their rules, and they still would not accept them. She talked to the manager and owner and explained the situation, and they would not budge. What store operates this way by not following their own return rules? We have heard this from other friends who have shopped here as well--that store employees have attitudes and are incredibly inflexible. (As you can also see in another Yelp comment.) We will not be going back, and suggest that you don't go either--unless you are okay with horrendous customer service. read more
