Not to be "that" person, but...as a woman...going to any mechanic shop/tire place/auto zone is never my favorite thing to do. I can hold my own to some extent but it's still never fun to be looked at like I don't belong there (even when I don't). I called the shop around 10:30am today and Bill answered. I explained that I was looking at buying a used car from a private seller and wanted to see if any codes came back. He asked me a couple questions about the year/make and how much the guy wanted. Bill said to bring it by at noon so he could test drive it and hook it up to the computer. Apparently, the guy had wiped the codes prior. But that didn't get past Bill! Once the guy was no longer within earshot, Bill and I had an honest conversation where he recommended I ditch the guy. Bill also made sure I was okay while I waited for my Uber. I know newer cars have soooo much technology that you start to lose the old school knowledge that was once required to be a mechanic. (Trust me, I owned a hydrogen car) Bill was a breath of fresh air, knows what the f*ck he's doing, and he didn't make me feel out of place. With my partner working for the past two weeks straight, when he came home today on his day off he was super bummed to find out his coolant was leaking all over the garage just a few hours after he returned home. I called my dad (because dads know everything haha) to see if he could fix it or if we should take it in. Unfortunately, we were recommended to take it in ASAP as he couldn't be much help - we had to replace the water pump. Dreading the idea of paying to tow our car, we quickly google searched for a nearby auto shop and found Oakley Auto Repair just five minutes from our home! Alan was great over the phone, said we could bring it down, and if it was having the trouble we expected it would be out of the shop today. We filled up the coolant and were on our way. We dropped the car off around 11 and exactly at 2 pm, it was ready to be picked up. We were impressed with the quick service, great mechanics, and overall ease of finding this place! Coming from Martinez, we had yet to find an auto shop out here that we called "our own". So happy to know we have this shop to go to when we need a mechanic! Called on a Friday, Allen told me to call Monday to schedule a time for drop off the following week. Called Monday and we agreed to a Friday drop off between 6am-8am. Went through the trouble of renting a car trailer, taking time off from work, etc to make this happen. I arrive that Friday at 7am, unload the car and walk inside. I tell him I'm here to drop off my car and he tells me "You just can't show up and drop off your car". Came in to get brakes repaired. I initially thought I needed calibers. The guy who helped me (can't remember his name) was very honest and said he doubted it and gave me legitimate reasons as to why. He repaired what I thought would have cost me around $1500 for $350. Me being a woman I always get a ton of anxiety when dealing with car repairs because I fear being taken advantage of. Alan at Oakley auto repair is a mechanic of integrity and customer service and knows his mechanics. We took our Honda passport there to have looked at because it would not pass smog. Alan worked diligently trouble shooting and discovered the part we needed was only available in Japan and cost $1500, it wasn't worth fixing. He returned the money for the labor to my young son-in-law and daughter which he did not have to do and which many other mechanics would not have even considered doing. My Mazda's check engine light had been going on and off for a while now. Alan worked on my car and I'd like to thank him for helping me fixed the problems. First, he explained to me the issues based on the ODB codes readout. He then asked me to bring back the car on early Monday morning as soon as his shop opens. After leaving the car with him and went home, I received a call from Alan stating that there are two parts that needed to be replaced. He quoted me the costs for parts and labor and said that it could be done in two hours. He completed the job in the allotted time and called to inform me the car is ready for pickup. Alan even offered to pick me up since I couldn't find transportation until after 6PM. During our ride back to his shop, we had a pleasant conversation. Called on monday to have my truck dropped off to have the brakes fixed. I was told ok no problem just drop the car off between 6am and 8am on Thursday, which I had agreed to. I had my fiance show up about 7:30am to drop it off and she was told verbatim "yea thats not gonna happen its too busy". Didnt know it was first come first serve , which would have been nice to know from the start. Plus, who just says "yea thats not gonna happen"? I dont know how he has such good reviews if he talks like that to people. Very rude and what a waste of time! Good luck getting in if you go here. I'll take my truck somewhere else. read more

I will never take another car to allen. He made my car worse than it was. I went went in for a simple carburetor rebuild and now the car leaks gas and it never did that before. I would give these guys no stars if I could. Took my car there to replace gas pump because car broke down in Antioch. I live 1 1/2 hrs away. They said could fix it and ordered and charged me for a new gas pump. They only replace part of the pump when I paid for the whole thing and they did not put new seals in. Car leaked gas when tank was filled so took it back (another 1 1/2 hr. drive). Just tried to tighten old gasket down. Drove home, filled tank again and again it leaked. I'm driving a death bomb here. When I called again said it needed a new gasket (ya think?). Ordered gasket and I went out for a 3rd time but was wrong gasket so made one out of cork and also left the filter off the bottom of the pump. Went home leaked again. $422 for this and hrs. of my time and still did not fix the problem. Nice people, poor lazy cheap work. Ended up taking my car to a local place where I live and they had it fixed in just a few hrs. OH LOOK...NO LEAK. That was another $400. Glad the rest of you guys got good work done but I will never go back or recommend them to anyone. Good luck if you go there. read more

Not sure about there actual work I didn't make it that far. There customer service is not so great. I made an appointment over the phone to have my car checked out I showed up on time they wanted me to just leave my car there and they would look at it later. Before i had a chance to explain why i would like to stick around for just the diagnostics or even let the guy know a little more about why i was taking my car in the shop he was complaining about how busy he was and people cant just come in and expect there car to be worked on first he went on and on then tried to shove me off on some other shop without ever asking why I wanted to stick around. I ended up telling him I would just go find some place else since he is too busy to even listen to a customer who had made an appointment. I was not in a hurry, did not expect to have my vehicle looked at first but obviously this place is busier than they can handle. Yet when I walked in no one was there and they were sitting eating at the desk. The garage was not overflowing with cars yet to hear him talk it was. read more
