One of the lady had bad mannerism and customer service. I was only 2 minutes late and want to pick up the hoop earrings that I left two weeks ago and she snatched the receipt with full anger. Some people need to understand it takes a lot of effort to drive at a shop just to get their items fixed. And shouldn't be so angry about just picking up an item. Jesus Christ! I also want to say that I got charged $15 and not $10. The lady who got angry really needs to get herself together and not take things personally. It is very unprofessional and she needs to be trained on how to treat her customers right. If we agreed on $10 then it should be $10. As usual, the people here are very professional, knowledgeable, kind and friendly. I came in to get my diamond engagement ring professionally cleaned after 28 years! Before that I've only done cleaning at home. My ring had stains on the white gold prongs and Adam explained what caused this and what needs to be done. He told me he can do a full restoration, cleaning and polish. He even gave me a quote for when the time comes when I have to get the prongs replaced. I got a call 2 days later, right on schedule, that my ring was ready to be picked up. I came to pick up my ring and I couldn't believe how beautiful it is!! The ring is once again shiny and glowing! Don't waste your time if it isn't a priceless heirloom. I had a small silver ring in a wraparound style which had broken. Not a highly expensive item but sentimental value. Should be simple to solder. I brought it in and they seemed to think it was a very complicated and difficult project, and said I'd have to leave it with them for a week so they could look at it. Recommend I take it elsewhere, but quoted $15 for the repair IF they could manage it. Ok. Later in the the week I get a phone message that they can't repair it for $15, they would want $25, but they "couldn't guarantee it" unless I paid them even more to change the style of it and solder it in multiple places so that it wasn't a wraparound style anymore. No thanks. When I went to pick it up, they couldn't even find it, and several people had to spend time looking high and low for it, completely puzzled as to what might have been done with it. Seemed very disorganized. Finally they managed to find it, and seemed surprised that I wasn't going to pay them however much to change the style of it or whatever they thought they had to do. Luckily I was able to buy a replacement online for less than the $25 they wanted to attempt to fix it. I would have preferred to support a local independent business but oh well... if it isn't gold and diamonds, it seems like they just don't want to bother with it. read more

I had a number of rings sized here successfully at an affordable price and great results. On a Sunday, I stepped on a very expensive , delicate, sentimental sapphire ring and bent the band. Oaks was closed so I brought it to a another fancy jewelry / repair store in Berkeley .. this other jeweler is supposed to be the best at repairing jewelry and quoted me $500, however they weren't very comfortable fixing the ring and told be the stones may break in the process. Took my 14k gold ring in that needed some work. After three weeks I had received zero communication. I emailed, no answer. A few days later I called. Hard to get through. I finally got an answer and 24 hours after that I got an estimate. Two weeks later and I still have not heard back about my ring yet. The crappy thing Is that it's been so long I think I lost my ticket with number on it. I hope when I pick it up it won't be a huge problem. I first heard about Oaks Jewelers over 20 years ago from my parents who had great experiences with them. I had wanted to get a couple of vintage Seikos worked on with a lot of work being done (new waterproof seals, swap to sapphire crystals, movement regulated, etc.) and had heard that Larry More, who I believe is the head watchmaker at Oaks, is the #1 Seiko specialist in the Bay Area. I first emailed Oaks about it and they got Larry in touch with me who said that he could do the work required. I dropped off the watches with staff that were extremely friendly, and within a couple of weeks, Larry called me and explained in detail some other flaws that had been found in these watches that were courtesy of a different incompetent watchmaker who shall remain nameless. He also told me that he would do some extra work to fix these flaws such as clean an automatic movement that the other watchmaker left fingerprints on (big no-no), which I was extremely appreciative of. After about a month (may sound like a long time, but perfection takes time in my opinion), my watches were completed and ready for pick-up. The work was done masterfully and when I saw the bill, my jaw dropped from how reasonable it was considering the high quality. Long story short, Oaks has become my new #1 trusted jeweler when it comes to maintaining my beloved Japanese and Swiss automatic watches. In fact, I just dropped off a friend's rare vintage Seiko automatic chronograph to have it overhauled by Larry after he wanted to based on my recommendation! It's no wonder that they have been around for 70 years, they have fantastic customer service and the quality of work for the price is nothing short of unbelievable! I came here to get the battery replaced on my grandma's Swiss watch. It was done in 5 min. for $6. It's a small jewelry and watch store on Solano Ave. You get personalized attention from the sales associates and there are quite a few on a Sat. afternoon. My sad, old watch recently died, poor thing. The gentleman who helped me at Oaks Jewelers was incredibly nice. He told me that it might be difficult to get the parts given the age of the watch, but that he would do his best. He gave me a quote significantly less than other jewelers I'd brought the watch to, and was apologetic that he couldn't get the parts for less. He called me not once but twice (!!) to let me know when my watch would be ready, which was even sooner than he anticipated. When I got my fragile old watch back, it was as good as new. Everyone here is sweet & professional, they are knowledgeable & happy to answer questions, and they seem to genuinely enjoy what they do.
