Visited Oakview Public House recently for dinner. When we arrived we only had to wait a short while for a table. Oakview is nicely decorated with ample seating. It is quite open so it can get noisy at times, but the ambiance is great. We ordered our drinks and had a main server & trainee. We ordered pretzel bites as an appetizer. Ordered a burger with no cheese, mac and cheese with fries, shrimp tacos and short rib grilled cheese. Everything was delicious though the burger first came out with cheese on it so we had to wait for a new one while everyone else had their meals. Oakview Public house is located off Green Oaks Parkway near the 12 Oaks Community. Now been about 5 or 6 times since opening and unfortunately the past 2 times were significantly lacking. Had a reservation for a birthday dinner and was so embarrassed about how everything went. We were seated right away but that was the end of the good service. For a weekend night it wasn't packed but not sure what was happening in the kitchen. Everything from drinks and appetizers to our meals took forever. One of the owners came over and apologized and offered us some free desserts but those took an additional half hour. Not sure what's going on with staffing. For a party of 8, all of our food came out at completely different times and some wrong, with a salad being the very last to show up. It was nothing short of a disaster. Now the food. I appreciate the change up on the menu but it just wasn't as good. A few ordered the Mac n Cheese and didn't like it. The short ribs and mash was hardly eaten. It did not look edible. Hard choice of appetizers now for a mix of older kids and adults. Quesadilla was just ok. This place is delicious. My wife and I came in around 1 on a Sunday. They had a brunch menu as well as their normal lunch menu. We tried the onion dip and were overly surprised at how good and fresh everything was. She got a blt, and I got a grilled chicken sandwich with bacon added. Their homeade fries in beef tallow are delicious. We will be back again soon. By the way, I almost forgot. The service was fantastic and fast. Our food hit the table within 10 minutes of ordering and they were a little over half capacity. read more

We went out for dinner mid-week after my wife suggested a double date. I enthusiastically tossed out a few celebrity couple options. Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka. Zendaya and Tom Holland. Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. Turns out she already had plans in mind and had invited a coworker and their significant other. Reality wins again. We landed on Oakview Public House and made a reservation even though it was a Wednesday. You never really know. The short drive was easy, and while the parking lot was busier than expected, it was not an issue. We were greeted quickly by the host staff and seated right away, even though the rest of our party arrived shortly after. The space itself feels modern and fresh without being overdone. Our server, Elizabeth, introduced herself, brought water, and kept things moving at a comfortable pace once the full party of four arrived. We started with the Bacon & Cheddar Tater Kegs. They were described as large, stuffed tater tots. We imagined one oversized tot, but they ended up being closer to one and a half times the size of a standard tot. Slight expectation mismatch aside, they were very good. Drinks came next, a mix of beers and a cider. Then we ordered across the menu: smash burger, fish and chips, steak frites, and I went with the short ribs and mash. The food arrived quickly and looked great. The fish and chips were solid and generously portioned. The steak frites were very tender and may have been the standout of the table. My short ribs and mash were good overall, though a touch saltier than I prefer. I also expected bone-in ribs rather than shredded, which might be worth clarifying on the menu. The mashed potatoes were excellent, but the broccoli was undercooked for my taste and could have used seasoning. We checked out the dessert menu, but nothing jumped out that night. Portions across the board were strong, with the fish and chips easily winning, as half went home. Entree prices lean a bit higher, but the portion size helps justify the value. Would we go back? Yes, especially if we are already in that part of town. There are still a few things on the menu, like the chicken pot pie and shrimp and grits, that make a return visit appealing. read more

Had a work dinner there. First off the restaurant was empty and yet the service was slow. One diner waited so long for her glass of wine, we had to call our waitress who had been MIA, she forgot what she ordered. Our group of 8 skipped appetizers and went straight to dinner. Updating my previous review only due to a service issue and to be clear, the food is still very good and we will continue to go back. Our server was relatively new but did an outstanding job and would like to have her as our server again. My issue is with mismanagement coming out of the kitchen. We ordered a salad that was missing half the components when it arrived, including the dressing. The server went back and spoke to the manager a couple times doing her best. In my opinion, it got well past the point at which a conversation/clarification needed to come from the manager. Well, food is a general term. How was it, same. Service was great, people were great. Sat at the bar and had lunch on the way home. I can only address what I had. The lunch fish n chips was hot, big, and delicious. Might have needdd a bit of salt, but that's what the malt vinegar is for. Mushy peas, great. Loved them. Ventured out to Holly Springs to meet friends for dinner, this was a nice halfway point for both families. Oakview Public House is a new restaurant in Holly Springs in a newly developed shopping center. Because it was new, we were expecting to walk right in and be seated - the was not the case so be sure to make a reservation unless you have time to wait. We were greeted by a group of lovely young ladies and were told it was a 45 minute wait but we were seated in about 20 minutes. Once seated our server quickly came to offer us drinks and gave us the overview of the menu. I ordered the Fish & Chips and my husband ordered Steak & Frits. Fish & Chips: The large piece of cod was perfectly battered and fried, not heavy or greasy - as some fried fish can be. The fries weren't great, they were steak cut and there was some inconsistency in the cook leaving some undercooked and soggy BUT the portion was so large I was able to pick through and find some perfectly cooked ones so I was not disappointed. I'm usually not a fan of tartar sauce, but Oakview makes theirs in house and it was delicious! This dish also came with a side of mashed peas, I don't think this was necessary as it didn't really add to the dish, maybe a nice slaw would have been good but nonetheless I was very satisfied with my meal and will order it again! Steak & Frits: Chef's Kiss! The steak was cooked perfectly medium with a nice salty bark and the tallow fries were perfect! They were regular cut fries and the cook was on point! Drinks: I had the Ballad Brewing Kolsch (VA) that was nice and creamy and my husband had 12 Oaks Margarita which he loved! First off, our server Ela was so amazing! Have to highlight how well she handled our table of 13 (including 6 kids). Complete rock star! The restaurant is super cute inside with elevated farm-to-table vibes and bright, warm lighting. All the food we had was delicious! The highlights were: The Burrata app which came with roasted tomatoes, golden beets, and amazing grilled bread slices. We enjoyed a great reunion dinner here over the holidays! While in town, I wanted to try a new local spot and Oakview Public House was a great pick. We considered brunch, but were excited for some of their sandwich options and opted for dinner this time. It was easy to make a reservation on their site and the staff was attentive and friendly. The space is great with a nice modern vibe and separate patio dining, dining room, bar area, and a second dining area. We thoroughly enjoyed the chicken sandwich, Reuben, fries, mashed potatoes, and salad. The attention to detail and flavor in each was fantastic, even for the more basic (at first glance) menu items like the chicken sandwich. OPH is a beautiful new restaurant in Holly Springs. I am from out of town and visited twice during my vacation, (it's that good!) It was very lively Saturday but the wait was not long. The staff was very friendly and attentive; and the manager made his rounds to check on everyone. The Burrata I wish I could have taken home with me, this is beyond delicious. It's known that I'm a burger guy. This hidden gem in a little known new cluster of businesses in Hollysprings is worth a ride. I was super excited to be invited to the soft opening of this highly anticipated new restaurant in Holly Springs! It did not disappoint!! The service was great and the food was amazing. Finally the food came out and it was not good. My son ordered steak medium and it came out well done and was tough as could be. I saw this new spot on yelp and was really excited to try it as Holly Springs is really lacking in non-chain restaurants that are actually good. This one is excellent! We popped in on a weeknight and ordered the charcuterie board, fried chicken sandwich, and smash burger. The sandwiches really impressed us! The chicken sandwich was brined and topped with pickles and hot honey. The combination was so good on the soft potato bun. The smashburger was amazing too! Fries were fresh, crispy, and fried in beef tallow. My measuring stick for most casual bar type spots is the ranch test - is it homemade or gross? I can attest Oakview's is homemade and delicious. The menu is a wonderful but simple comfort food with something for everyone, even butter noodles for the kiddos. The apple fig old fashion was absolutely amazing! Everything we tried was delightful husband says the smash burger was absolutely amazing, he doesn't have the words to describe it. We had my dad's surprise 50th birthday party here, and I honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience. I really was hoping this place would be our new "go to place ". It is very pretty inside and has a nice patio area and a convenient location . We were escorted to our table on the patio ,that had supposedly been cleaned but had some leftover french fries stuck to the table . Ok no big deal we sat at another table , but the french frie remained on the table for at least another 15 minutes . It was not that busy . There was plenty of staff that went past our table but it took a really long time to be acknowledged by our waitress .We had a very young waitress who was very pleasant she took our drink order and when she returned she took our app order ,chips and salsa . About 10 - 15 minutes later she took our dinner order . I was kinda surprised our chips didn't make it out but we went ahead and ordered our dinner . Our waitress had no idea of the specials and went back to get the list she also asked another staff member about the specials . The menu felt a bit small and limited but we were hopeful . About 15 minutes later our dinner arrived , my husband ordered salmon cooked medium it was very pink and definitely not cooked medium . I had the special, shrimp tacos . The 2 shrimps on my taco were overly breaded and fried and slaw was so minimal is wasn't a well balance taco at all . Absolute best meal I've had in holly springs! Wow. Just wow. Had the shrimp taco special and I normally don't like fried food, but the fried shrimp was incredible-- perfectly cooked, battered and seasoned. Everything on the taco made sense and was super flavorful. My friend got a salad and fries and her salad was huge and she was pretty sure it was homemade dressing. 3 Visits and still just very "meh". We really had high hopes for this place, and we tried to forgive them for a rough visit when we first went a couple months back. The 2nd time was a little better, but we went ~8 (on a Saturday night) and it seemed there was more interest in everyone preparing for closing than providing good service. The ONLY reason we went back are the awesome Steak Frites and great looking building/ interior. The Smash burger and Pimento Cheese app are also good, but alone not worth the visit. All the other items we've tried are just not good, bland or too salty. Weakest and saltiest Wedge salad we've ever had, and the Burrata appetizer was just terrible. I think there's a reason they were only at ~1/2 capacity at 7:30 on a Friday night. Could be the economy, but other nearby similar places are still jamming during this time. I've also never been to a pub (upscale pub) with such a weak appetizer menu. We feel it needs drastic improvement fast or we will not return. read more
