Disclaimer: i ate here for a work dinner and was upstairs in a private room, so I cannot attest to the ambience of the restaurant and I also don't feel I can fairly rate service either, thus I won't be including those aspects in my review. The food: we were served salads and focaccia to start. The side salad was nice, and I enjoyed the creamy vinaigrette and fresh vegetables. The focaccia was warm and beautifully salted. We were also given cheese platters, and I enjoyed the addition of honeycomb on the platter. I opted for the filet mignon, medium rare, with polenta and roasted carrots. The filet was served medium well, and even with the Stilton crust it was flavorless and desperately needed some salt. The thyme polenta was also missing the thyme, and even more desperately needed salt and just any sort of flavor. An unflavored polenta can taste like boiled water and I found that to be the case with theirs. The carrots tasted lovely with the Madeira Demi glace, but were unfortunately raw. I opted for the banana cheesecake for dessert, and while it wasn't my favorite, I think it was executed nicely. I also tried someone else's coffee ice cream which they pair with beignets, and thoroughly enjoyed that. All in all, a disappointing food experience. For a $62 steak, they missed the mark. read more

A refined and classy restaurant in what was once an old stately home. The food and service has to be among the best in Charlotte- wonderful for a special (or any) occasion! Also an exceptional in-depth wine list. We were served primarily by Sadik, a personable and very knowledgeable young man. He knew the menu and ingredients perfectly and made great recommendations. I had the sea bass, cooked perfectly- medium I'd say. Wonderful sauce with some lobster pieces too. My before and after pics tell the story for me. I'd say one of the best meals I've ever had. A miss for fine dining. Dull decor and atmosphere. We were off to a rocky start when my drink took 20 minutes to arrive. Then my spouse's appetizer (excellent scallops) came 15 minutes before my lobster cakes (mediocre). We watched each other finish our appetizers separately. Staff should have been more concerned with the timing of service. A poorly dressed Caesar salad did not add anything to the meal.The balance of the dinner was a mix of superbly prepared grouper and an unfortunately very rare elk chop that was ordered medium rare. The Escargot were removed from their shell and cooked with portobello mushrooms in a creamy gorgonzola cheese sauce with a side of crostini. And lastly the sea bass was sautéed over black truffle-Yukon gold mashed potatoes with Maine lobster, prosciutto, sweet corn, and buttery wine sauce. All the dishes were tasty however I wasn't a huge fan of the escargot. I recently visited Paris and had Paris escargot expectations and these disappointed a little. Amazing dinner with 2 friends, seated outdoors. Beautiful space and we had perfect weather. I appreciate that gluten-free items are labeled on the menu. There is an extensive wine list but we each decided to go with cocktails because their cocktails looked so creative and delicious (and they WERE!). We shared the house-made ricotta appetizer (vegetarian) - the different types of beets were so perfectly sweet and honestly I could have eaten the whole thing myself because it was SO GOOD. I had the Sea Bass entree - not too rich but very delicious! The lobster in the dish was a really nice touch. I never had lobster and sea bass together before. I was worried it would be too rich based on the description but our server highly recommended the dish. One person had the salmon dish on the menu and the other had rib eye that was one of the daily specials not on the menu. We couldn't resist dessert so we somehow found room to share the Lemon Posset. It was so good! Not too sweet, not too tart, and every component was heavenly. The brulee crunch was so good! Was excited to try The Fig Tree after hearing so many reviews about it, made a reservation for my husbands birthday. We were seated quickly upon arrival and headed upstairs to a more intimate setting. One thing I'd read in prior reviews is that the quietness can get a little awkward because of how close other guests are to you/the restaurant is in a house so even with background music on, you have to be pretty quiet so other guests aren't hearing you. Our waiter was great at describing the specials for the day, we ordered the scallops to start, mushroom bisque soup, and the filet + sea bass for our entrees. The scallops were cooked well but slightly salty and not as warm/hot as they should be when served. The table bread focaccia was also unfortunately cold which made it hard to enjoy. The mushroom bisque was excellent however & both of our entrees were wonderful. We did notice that our plates seemed to have significant wear/tear around the ring which we at first thought were stains, until we asked the waiter and he said it was from the steam of the dishwashers. Just something to note, they may want to replace them because it does look like a dirt ring around the plate and was just a bit off putting. The dessert was amazing, we made got the banana pudding cheesecake and it did not disappoint. Overall we had a good experience, but there is room for improvement, and for the price/this being a place for special occasions is important to note. This was easily the best dining experience and food that we had in Charlotte. The place is unbelievably charming and there is a lovely porch and outdoor seating. We had the perfect outdoor weather the evening that we visited and loved the vibe. The food was phenomenal and the do an 'old school' salad with your entrée. I had a crazy good Sea Bass and upgraded to a spinach salad the was perfect! Wife had a salmon prepared exactly as requested and her aunt ordered scallops that were great. There was a fantastic crab and corn chowder, as well, that is not to be missed if offered. We also tried the foie gras and it was one of the best, ever! Quite the interesting milieu placing such a high end restaurant in what looks like a historical era home. Both stairs and ramp are available for patrons to enter. This is a place for special occasions. In my case my daughter and I were celebrating her recent graduation with her master degree. The wine selection is extensive and the prices range from expensive to OMG. But if you buy by the bottle they will recork so you can take the rest home if you don't finish it. We went with two appetizers- the escargot and lobster cakes. The escargot was delicious and the sauce it was served in made great sop for the focaccia that came with the meal. My daughter ordered the off the menu wagyu and she let me try it. Out of this world delicious! I ordered the bison and although it was gristly it had a wonderful flavor- especially with the cream sauce, potatoes, and asparagus that came with it. We really wanted dessert but there simply was no room. I do want to commend the service there. The waitstaff was on point both in describing the meals at presentation, wine recommendations, silverware replacement, and table clearing. I really enjoyed my dining experience here and will be back. Phenomenal restaurant. Celebrated our 5th anniversary tonight at The Fig Tree and had such a great experience. We had the Apple Purse as an app and then had the sea bass and elk chop for entrees. The sea bass was maybe my favorite dish I have ever had in my life. The combination of flavors was pure artistry. We finished the night off with the seasonal pumpkin tiramisu which was also really good. Will definitely be coming back for more special occasions. We celebrated our 22nd anniversary at The Fig Tree. The evening was fabulous! The atmosphere was lovely and romantic. The service was impeccable and welcoming. The food...out of this world! Between the 2 of us we had the Escargot and Lobster Cakes (apps), the Baby Spinach, Quail Egg, and Warm Bacon Vinaigrette (salad), and the Sautéed Sea Bass w/ Lobster, and Filet Mignon (entrees). My husband thoroughly enjoyed his filet, but I can't say enough about the sea bass. It takes a lot to season a sea bass properly, so I'm always hesitant to order it. The Fig Tree's entree is served with Maine Lobster over Black Truffle-Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes, Prosciutto, Sweet Corn, and Tarragon Beurre Blanc. It was so DELICIOUS and everything was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend it! read more

We have not visited Fig Tree in a while, but were there last night and it was a fantastic experience. I HIGHLY recommend the Elk chop. It was so flavorful. It had a slight peppercorn crust and the meat was very tender. The red cabbage went extremely well with it and I put a bit of it with every bite of elk. It was so good ! It also came with spaetzle, but I have to say mine is better. If they would have added garlic and parsley to the spaetzle it would have been good also. Entrees come with a nice green salad and it tasted very fresh. Hubby had the lamb loin and it was extremely tender. He loved his dinner and ordered pinot to go with it. We had lobster cake as an appetizer. There were 2 small cakes topped with microgreens. The cakes were nestled over a green sauce that had a hint of spicy heat. They were very good. My pear vodka cocktail was divine. The flavors blended beautifully. I could have easily been greedy and ordered 2. For dessert my husband got the mocha cake with mocha ganache and crunchy bits on top. He loved it so much he didn't want to eat or drink anything after his last bite so that he could savor the flavor. It was nicely rich for those that like mocha. The dessert is very small, so no worries about not being able to finish. I got a Chicago-style strawberry cheesecake and it was yummy. The strawberry was fresh and the cheesecake was very good. I think a little less crumbly crust would have been nice to bring out the creaminess. (We overheard another waiter describe the difference in Chicago vs NY cheesecake.... NY is more dense). Sorry, photos got too dark once the sun went down to see the dessert photos well. What I love about this place is that it is in an old house that has been turned into a restaurant. It has a warm & cozy feel for a special occasion. The women's bathroom is gorgeous ! The service is excellent and I highly recommend this place for a quiet, classy dinner. Friday night was my first time to eat there but my wife ate atvthe Fig Tree earlier this year with a friend. They raved about the food. Had to try this highly recommended restaurant. We were seated in one of the upstairs dining rooms. It was a wonderfully quiet, location, perfect for celebrating our anniversary. Our waiter, Ben, was personable, knowledgeable, and attentive. We started with whiskey sours and asked if the bartender could add whipped egg whites to our drinks. We were delighted to learn that the bar could accommodate our request. While enjoying our drinks, we reviewed their extensive wine list. You'll need a few minutes to look over their wine list. We asked for recommendations for a red blend and the bottle we were served was from the Othello Vineyard in California. It was smooth and easy to drink...just what we were looking for. Our first food selection was an appetizer, escargot. The Fig Tree serves escargot a bit differently than I'm used to. Instead of being baked in their shells, they cook the snails and serve them on a plate with an elegant sauce and provide bread for dipping into the sauce. This is an amazing dish. If you've never had escargot, try it here. For dinner, I had the sea bass and my wife had the scallops. The sea bass was marinated and tasted sooo good. My wife's scallops were seasoned (blackened?) and she was very happy with her choice. We inquired about the dessert menu and found homemade beignets at the top of the list. If you've tried beignets in New Orleans, I assure you, these are better. The dough is cooked to a slightly browned, crispy exterior and there is a cinnamon dipping sauce on the plate. That dipping sauce is addictive (I like cinnamon/sugar). There is also a scoop of coffee flavored ice cream. The perfect finish to a great meal. They have other good options for dessert in case cinnamon is not a spice you crave. Lots of folks in Charlotte have a favorite resturant for fine dining. The Fig Tree is one you should consider. I went on a date here and first wasn't a huge fan of how quiet the inside was. It was a bit awkward trying to have conversation. While the food was very good, I am disappointed in their lack of care when it comes to food allergies. We ordered multiple desserts and asked to ensure that they could be made without nuts as my date is allergic to nuts (not deathly but he does have a slight allergy). We were told they could be made without. We verified multiple times prior to eating the desserts and one dessert even had to be remade as there were nuts on the plate when it was brought to us. As we were eating them, he started saying that his tongue started going numb. We suspect it was the banana bread pudding (I think that was the name of the dessert) that still had nuts in it. Either way, we had to sign our bill and immediately go sit in front of the ER down the street to ensure that his allergic reaction didn't get any worse. Not a fun ending to the night! read more

Expensive doesn't mean it is good. Even though this restaurant has good reviews I think either we went late or they are just overrated. Suppose to be French and Italian, but they had the worst escargot I ever had, taste like nothing and one of them had small rock/sand in them and it doesn't even look like French escargot recipe. Entree is good lamb and steak is well cook and marinated. But then again nothing overblown to remember. For this price range I was expecting more. Then dessert, if you come just get the beignets like everybody else. Our cake was kind of dry, pear was hard as a rock. Service and atmosphere is top notch. Wine menu is thicker than a Calculus textbook. Waiter and staff constantly checking up on you and cleaning your table. This is a great special occasion place! We enjoyed celebrating our anniversary here, sitting at a cozy table tucked away in a corner. Our waiter was great! He was so attentive and knowledgeable, and checked in often enough that all needs were met without feeling like he was joining our date (lol). The wine list was EXTENSIVE. I found a Malbec I liked, though truly the options felt endless. The menu on the other hand was brief and easy to read. Several options really appealed to me, and I ended up choosing the veal osso busco. My partner chose the veal chop, which was also incredible. We love escargot and were happy to find that on the menu as well. Finally, we ordered cheesecake for dessert, which was fabulous, and they brought little truffles out for us, too (celebration!). Some cons: it was rather dark! I think it lended to the ambience having the dimmed lights. However, it would be nice to have *a little* brighter lights at the individual tables. Secondly, there were very few vegetarian options. As someone with dietary restrictions, I often use these as a fallback. If pescatarian, you'll be fine! But if you eat neither meat, nor fish, the options are quite limited. Finally, I would not call this the most handicap friendly restaurant. It's in an old house, which makes for nice ambiance, but restrooms are upstairs and think it could be somewhat difficult to navigate if you make wider turns. Overall, this place was incredible. For our anniversary, we decided to come to Fig Tree to celebrate. The Fig Tree is a quaint little house turned into a restaurant. I have had memories of these types of restaurants back in Charlotte when I was younger, but the Fig Tree was a new experience since I've never been here. Seating is pretty tight and cozy, but they also had seating over AC vents. Because it's reservation heavy, if you do get an AC vent I don't think your experience will be extremely pleasant but it's still doable. There's also outdoor seating but, since it was a hot summer night we stayed inside. We started off with drinks, Sparkling Pear Martini along with several appetizers. The Lamb Carpaccio, Fois Gras, and Escargot. For mains I got the Elk Chop, because that's a piece of meat that you usually don't see on the menu. The elk was pretty good, lean, gamey, but the flavors were tasty. The appetizers stole most of my stomach as it was really filling. I did take food home, but at the end of the meal I was really satisfied. I would recommend to come here for a date, or a special event. The ambiance here is cozy and I would say if you like people watching or just listening to conversations this place is great. It's quiet and a place where you can have a good conversation with good food. Overall, I would come back to Fig Tree. It's a unique experience. Parking is a bit tight though as there are limited parking spots in the lot. Depending on when you come, I would say it may line up to the timing of those before you leaving. read more

Not "at the level," as Bethenny Frankel would say. I'm a "food is an experience" person, and not one to shy away from a fine dining price tag, but along with that comes high expectations. I expect a culinary experience from start to finish, and unfortunately, for me, Fig Tree was under-inspired and inconsistent. I'll give them props for portion size and solid entrees, but the appetizer and dessert fell short. We started with the lobster cakes, and while they were good, they weren't overly flavorful and nothing to write home about, especially considering the waiter said they were the best thing on the appetizer menu. For our entrees, we chose the sea bass (another recommendation from our waiter as the best seafood option) and the cowgirl ribeye special (coming in at $75). The sea bass itself was exceptionally cooked, although the accompanying mashed potatoes and corn were boring. One thing I noticed about the menu was the heavy use of corn, which felt like an odd choice especially given the spring season. The steak was excellent. Both came with a garden salad, or the option to select a different salad or soup for a surcharge, and we subbed one for the soup of the day. Soup of the day was chicken, potato, bacon, and mushroom, and I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't the brothy, "let's throw everything we have in a pot and see how it goes" that was served. That said, it was tasty and different, and a large portion. I can't give you the good the bad and the ugly without mentioning dessert. Flourless chocolate cake is one of my favorite desserts, so when my husband told me he saw a flight on the menu, I obviously had to have it. Unfortunately, the flight didn't land. It was three tiny pieces of different toppings alongside two random ice cream scoops, and at a price tag of a whopping $26 for a dessert, I wished I'd skipped it altogether. It felt like the chef wasn't sure what direction to take, and decided to take three to mediocre at best instead of perfecting one. read more

Upon looking at the menu, we noticed we were more interested in the apps than entrees so we decided to do a few apps and split one entree instead. Our server, Fernando, paced everything perfectly. First the escargot and pork belly came out together, followed by the octopus, and finally the grouper entree. Had a special meal in Charlotte. The restaurant is located in an old house and there are multiple dining areas on different floors. The room we were in had four tables and it was private and intimate. The wait staff and service was superb and non intrusive. I had a special appetizer which was called the beggars purse which is a puff pastry filled with apples, walnuts , Gorgonzola cheese and onions. It was presented in a bernaise and chive sauce. We had a great experience for our anniversary. On short notice we were able to get a reservation at 6:15 on a Thurs (as long as we agreed to leave by 7:45....which wasn't an issue for us). There was only one other table seated when we arrived....but the place filled up over the next hour. Neither of us are wine people, but they had a few good local beer options. We started with the Burrata ($15) and it was good - but they really should have had a few more pieces of the brioche toast (only served one). Our entrees came with the soup of the day....which was a tomato base with red pepper and it was outstanding! My bride ordered the pan roasted Scottish salmon ($36) and it was well prepared and she loved the sides. I ordered the special which was a triggerfish (which I had never had before) and it was outstanding! We were too full for dessert.....but they looked great. Service from Rich was awesome! We went for my wife's birthday and was seated right away as we had a reservation. We were greeted by very friendly hostesses and our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. Service overall was impeccable! For appetizers, we ordered the foie gras, the octopus and the pork belly. The seared foie gras was very tasty but the portion was rather small. The octopus was succulent and tender. The pork belly was very flavorful and portion size was perfect for an appetizer. For our main courses, we order the Veal and the Elk. Elk meat or elk steak will now be my new favorite go to. Very very tender and juicy almost like prime rib if you like it medium rare, however it is not gamey at all. The red cabbage that came with the elk chop had a little bitterness to it that threw me off. The Veal chop was cooked perfectly on the inside however the outside in my opinion maybe could use a little bit of charring to build a crust and a little more seasoning. The two sides that came with the veal is just good. I definitely recommend this place and would like to return again. read more

Restaurant is located essentially in a house, which is unique. They have good decorations, but when we were there, there was no music playing, so not much of an ambiance. We started with the octopus, and I got the elk roast with an upgraded salad (with goat cheese and walnuts), and my wife got the special of the day, which was the Alaskan halibut. She got hers with the mushroom soup. The octopus was over cooked and very chewy. The sauce it came with was good though! My wife's mushroom soup was rich and good, she enjoyed it, but it's definitely a heavier soup. I really enjoyed my salad, and would get it again. As for the elk roast, I had to add a bunch of salt to it. I ordered it as a medium rare plus (between medium rare and medium). The first couple bites looked over cooked, but closer to the bone it became much more medium rare plus - so perfect cooking there. Again I was adding salt, but it tasted very good and I finished the whole thing. I didn't touch much of the subbed mashed potatoes since I was very full, but they were good. I ordered the sea scallops, which were exceptional, a terrific alcoholic beverage, and a decadent dessert. We celebrated a family birthday that night and were very impressed. Such a cute spot for date night. My husband and I went last night for the first time, celebrating our anniversary. It was perfect weather to sit on the patio and we did just that (with a reservation, of course). Service was excellent (Thanks, Eddie!). We started with scallops as an appetizer. Delicious. Only problem was that I wanted more as the appetizer only comes with 3 so my husband and I had one full scallop each and split the third. What a tease! Thankfully the fresh made bread dipped in rosemary infused olive oil and fresh garlic spread held us over 'til more food rolled out. We kept getting more bread and couldn't refuse it when they asked if we wanted more. We then had salads and butternut squash soup (soup of the day). I highly recommend that soup. It had some sort of delicious bacon jam stuff mixed in which gave it a lot of flavor. The fresh grated cheese on top was an added bonus. For entrees, my hubby ordered the Elk. Our server recommended that he order it medium instead of his usual medium rare temperature. I tried a piece. It was dense, but flavorful. I couldn't eat more than a couple bites. My husband almost finished it. I went to the restaurant thinking I'd order my usual filet, but the special sounded great so I gave it a try. I knew I might not have the opportunity to try it if we came back and the filet appears to always be on the menu. It was was wahoo (a Hawaiian whitefish). It was seared to perfection atop a crab, mushroom, and corn risotto. Asparagus for garnishment. Really nice dish. For dessert, we finished with beignets which were pretty good. My husband and I checked this restaurant out when we were in Charlotte for an anniversary celebration. The interior of the restaurant, location, and service were excellent and we would give a 5/5 for that. The restaurant is an old craftsman home with some parking on the outside and a cute cozy feel. It was a bit too quiet inside and we could hear other people eating and talking so some ambient music would've been nice. The food was overall average, and would rate some dishes 3/5 and others 4/5 as detailed below. Since we weren't that impressed with the food, the overall rating is 4/5 for me. The grilled octopus - 3/5, would skip this one. Though the accompaniments were well thought of, the octopus itself was rubbery and over cooked. We also had some house-made focaccia bread that was cold and didn't have much flavor. If this was warm it would've made a big difference. Mushroom soup - 4/5, the soup has really fresh favors of mushrooms but is mostly heavy cream and feels quite fatty. Alaskan halibut - 4/5, would recommend to fish fans. The fish itself had a nice sear and was flaky and well cooked. The accompanying risotto was good but had a lot of heavy cream and lost some of the lobster flavor. Elk - 4.5/5, the flavors of the elk were really the highlight of the meal and we loved the elk sausage especially. However, we asked for medium rare and it was cooked more on the medium well side hence the half point off. The accompanying potato's were really good. If you're looking for a unique dish and like red meat - this is for you. The waiter brought us a nice dessert to end our meal with the plate stating "happy anniversary" which was a really sweet way to end the meal. read more
