the small seems to be a hidden gem. They have a wide range of stores and pretty divers food court. It's located right off the highway making it a convenient stop. the fact that it is one story might sway you to think that there isn't much here but they definitely Target the upper middle-class with stores like Old Navy, Forever 21, H& M, and JCPenney. during my visit, I was also able to hit up Payless, Charlotte Russe and New York & Company. the space itself felt cleaning and I liked having the majority of stores I shop at in one place I will definitely be returning in the future. read more

There is plenty of parking (mainly because there weren't many people there the day I went). I do like the funky styles of the stores I did go into. Everything was clean. I guess it's easy to keep clean if you don't have many customers. Interesting customer base. Wide aisle, plenty of space to sit if needed. Ok, the quick and dirty is that My favorite mall is Lakeside hands down which is why i took pff two stars. Now I hate crowds so I usually go only during the week. I will occasionally go to Esplanade when I want to go to the eye store Lens Crafters) or Things Remembered. Otherwise,'I avoided Oakwood like the plague. After this last visit I may need to reconsider Oakwood mall again. Quite frankly, I remember when Oakwood was a premier shopping center with Marshall's upstairs, the Gap, Mignon Faget, etc. then it underwent a decline and it seems to be coming back. I am quite pleased with the Things Remembered kiosk (see my review), and it's a great place to get your watch battery replaced (look for Mr. Ali who is from Pakistan and is friendly and gave me a great deal for replacing the battery on my Technomarine watch). Plus it's really awesome to find shoes (see my review for Payless and Sears). And I discovered a FANTASTIC store called Earthbound Trading that apparently Pepe d last month? Now I forgot the sales guys name (I truly am bad with names ya'll) but Antoinette (the sales lady) were super friendly. Will have to write a review! I'm liking you again Oakwood mall! Ugh. First of all, has anyone ever given a mall a gleaming review? "I love fighting wayward teens with nothing better to do than wander around a mall on a Wednesday afternoon and angry moms wrangling their screaming brood in order to buy an overpriced pair of Nikes." These are the same folks who obviously haven't heard of the new fangled thing called the internet and zappos. But I digress. Yes, every now and then I find myself with the need to go to the mall. First of all, Oakwood was once pretty good. It had some nice restaurants and great stores and kiosks. Those days are gone. The stores in this mall are "low budge". What I mean by that is; little rinky dink no name shoe stores, a weird purse store full of cheap trash (go to Dillard's and get something good), pathetic kiosks dedicated to wigs, "blinged" out chains, cell phone covers and lash (yes, eyelash) decorations. Oh, and I almost forgot the tooth whitening station and massage "nook", because if I want white teeth and a rub down, I head to Oakwood. Look, I grew up on Oakwood. I loved what it was before the storm. Sure, it was a little "Westbank", but I was a teenager and didn't know any better. And the Neon Pretzel that they used to have was the BOMB! I will say this...the saving graces of this mall are the Victoria's Secret (I think I'm gonna review that place separately because I can't make it from entrance to register without being asked if I wear the right size bra at least once), the Cafe du Monde (because I loves my frozen Cafe au Lait), and the Bath and Body works. All the rest of the stores are geared towards younguns (Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, etc.). If you MUST go to a mall, go to Lakeside...but have fun parking! You know what? Don't even go there. Just shop online. Seriously. Ebay it. Gently used is better than "mallin" it. read more

This mall was heavily looted and burned during Katrina. It has never been the same since. Many of the merchants pulled out and the restaurants (Cannons and Semolina) are closed. There is still a limited food court. Id recommend you go somewhere else, but it is convenient to a lot of areas. read more

This mall suites me just fine. With easy-enough parking, Dillard, JCPenney, a nice selection of chain stores, shoe stores, a few food options and a daiquiri stand. It is everything I need and plenty of what I don't need. Isn't that what a mall is all about?? Bonus: if it isn't 'high traffic' time I can get over the bridge and get here in about 5 minutes from mid-city, which is about the same amount of time it would take to get to Lakeside Mall, but, here, I would already have a parking place, get a soda in the food court and be shopping by the time I found parking over there. true. read more

Oakwood is a very basic and small mall with very ample parking lots. They have a handful of popular stores such as H&M, F21, Charlotte Russe, Victoria Secret,Old Navy, Ulta and Dillards. Oakwood also has their very own Cafe Du Monde so customers can grab beignets in between shopping! Their Frozen Cafe Au Lait is also a definite must! Overall, this mall is great for quick in-and-out shopping. Other than their minuscule fountain at the center of the mall, it isn't really a scenic shopping complex. read more

You know, I grew up coming here since it's down the street from my grandparents. It wasn't great then. It's downright awful now. I don't love a mall anyway. But I hate this one. I think parents use it as free day care. So many screaming children running around unsupervised. The selection of stores sucks tremendously. Dillard's even has a horrible selection. And it's tiny. I will not be venturing to the Wank for any more shopping. read more

The nail salon place is horrible!!! They ripped my skin off of my lip and made me pay for the rest. They were rude and raising their voices, and did absolutely NOTHING to help. They made it seem as if it was my fault for them burning my lip. I have the nerve to sue read more

Oakwood is my guilty pleasure because for the most part, I won't see too many folks I know on the Westbank, and for those folks I do know on the Westbank, y'all won't care if I'm in crazy leggings and a giant sweater speed walking to my favorite mall stores including H&M, Charlotte Russe, and Forever 21. IT's usually a 1,2,3 punch and I'm out of there. The lines are manageable at any of the stores, and the mall is never really that crowded when I go, and parking is easy enough near the entrances I want to go in unlike that "other" mall where parking is "Mad Max: Fury Road Meets Britney Spears with an Umbrella" stressful. Their variety of stores is comparable for me to the other malls in town, and like I said, so much less of a hassle. Not my longest review, but short and sweet, just like I like my mall experiences. read more

One of my friends calls this place "Oakhood Mall." For a mall, it's really not that bad - it's got better parking and is less crowded than Lakeside, it's not lacking in stores or filled with the pre-teens that clutter Clearview, and it's not as ridiculously large and depressing as Esplanade. The stores here always have great sales! The food options are kind of hilarious - dueling restaurants, Hibachi Hut vs. Famous Wok, Chick-Fil-A vs. Canes, Smoothie King vs. New Orleans Daiquiris, and Great American Cookies vs. Cinnamonster (they have Dr. Pepper Icees!!!). So really, not so bad. read more

I keep hoping against hope that Oakwood will improve, but since the reopening post-Katrina it has become stagnant (again). I know there is a market for better stores in the area, because my friends are all crossing the river and heading to Lakeside, where they can find an Apple store, a Pottery Barn, a William-Sonoma, some decent clothing in a store other than Dillards and a good selection of shoes and handbags instead of the plethora of athletic shoes and knock offs offered at Oakwood. The food court is dimly lit and not inviting at all, matching the small, sad selection of food available there and the kiosks that are scattered throughout have some of the cheapest quality merchandise this side of a flea market. When is someone going to wise up and realize that there IS a market for good stores on the West Bank? Oakwood is missing the boat by catering almost exclusively to teens and budget shoppers instead of of spreading the love to those of us who yearn for something more without being forced to cross the river. read more

I never went to this mall pre Katrina (that I can remember anyway) so I have nothing to compare it to. I find it has all the basic necessities, but not enough to be worthy of 4 stars. They have recently build an annex to include an Old Navy, Dicks Sporting Goods, and Ulta so it looks like they are trying to make it more appealing. It's anchored by Dillard's, JC Penny and Sears. They also have a really nice spacious Forever21. The food court is a little weak...I believe there are 2 or maybe even 3 Chinese food places, Chic fil a, Canes, Smoothie King, and a random pizza place that is not Sbarro. The mall itself is clean and nice looking from the inside out. It's not as good as Lakeside (although the parking is better), but its way better than Esplanade. read more

They have an Old Navy and a Cafe Du Monde... this is pretty much the only reason I go here. In fact, if I didn't have a baby who looks adorable in Old Navy clothes, I probably wouldn't come at all. I really don't find myself wandering through the mall and checking out the variety of stores... although if I did, I could probably get through the entire mall in less than an hour. It's pretty empty. On the bright side, it is near Kim Son and Hi Do Bakery. read more

Reopened as of October 19, 2007! For those of you who remember from TV coverage, Oakwood Shopping center was raped, gutted, and set on fire during the Katrina episode. Millions of dollars and two years later, it has finally reopened its doors to eager shoppers. The rennovation is beautiful and sleek. The minimalist look suits well as the shoppers and storefronts truly outfit the shopping experience. In the center of the mall is a large fountain with granite and available are sofa couches and benches all throughout. So far only three flagship stores are open (Sears, JCPennys, & Dillards) with the usual footwear shops and what not. What's exciting is that Forever 21 is coming in December!!! Finally, no more going to Lakeside all the freakin time! The food court had a major face-lift as well. Tons of seating and for now, clean tables! Open are Chick-fil-A, Chinese take out, pizzeria, cheesesteaks, and Daiquris! So if you feel like staying on one side of the Mississippi, you can burn cash @ Oakwood.... read more

Ummm well I went to this mall about three times before Katrina and it was less than impressive then but it had some decent stores. Since Katrina I've returned once and there would have to be a lot of substantial changes to make me ever want to return as there just isn't much that interests me here. read more

This is always a nice alternative to Lakeside but just as busy. I find the parking is a lot easier here. Oakwood Center has some unique eateries and stores whereas Lakeside Mall has all major chains(Open to correction). 1.Food court: Chick Fil-A, Aunti Ann's, Philly's Steakhouse, Smoothie King, Hoach Hut(Chineese), Raising Cane's, Ditali's Pizza, Famous Wok. The drive across The Mississippi River via Crescent City Connection is not bad thanks to The Mall's location near the base of it. read more

The new expansion to the mall is great! Remember when we used to shop at Mervyn's? Yeah, I don't either. But they've finally extended the mall and added a Dick's Sporting Good (in the old Mervyn's location) and Ulta! Every high maintenance girl's dream! Ok, maybe even the non high maintenance girls. It's nicer now. They even relocated the Old Navy and placed it between Dicks & Ulta. Francesca's Collection was added a while back which is also great. Overall, Oakwood Center is a great place to shop at now. Not that it wasn't before. The new places to shop just makes it easier to look forward to coming! read more

Westbankers must love their shoes. If you need shoes, Oakwood is the place to go. I counted 14 shoe stores. Yes 14 in a mall that only has about 30-35 stores total. Other than the shoe stores there are very few other decent shops. I give it two stars because it has a raising canes in the food court. Also, my female friend said the forever 21 is really nice. read more

It's a basic mall. But very easy to get too. It has good restaurants for a quick bite and a nice variety of mall stores. There is a Cafe Du MONDE, so you can get classic beignets without the fuss of the French quarter. It's a very clean mall. My only problem is it's always too cold. Turn down the AC. read more

Definitely on an upswing. This mall was once neck and neck with Lakeside, but that thing in 2005 put them into a downward spiral. When they first reopened and up until the last year it was a sleepy mall with very little activity unless there was a big sneaker release happening. Now it's got a decent set of anchors, and quite a few things happening in the upcoming weeks/months. The biggest thing that's confirmed is that the Foot Locker is being converted into Footlocker's Sneaker Boutique "House of Hoops," which all but confirms that this is the mall that's going to have all of the All-Star Weekend special shopping events. read more

The mall looks nicer now than it did before hurricane Katrina. However, it still doesn't have a great selection of stores in my opinion. Other than the main stores, such as Dillards, it seems to have more stores with lower quality items compared to Lakeside mall. If it weren't for the distance I would choose to go to Lakeside mall over Oakwood mall any day. I guess the two malls just cater to different crowds, and the products found in the majority of the smaller stores in Oakwood don't appeal to me much. If you love Victoria's Secret though I think the one in Oakwood mall is nicer :) read more

I go to Oakwood b/c it is the closest mall to uptown, but the stores (except for Dillards) are mostly for adolescent hipsters. They've done an amazing renovation post-K. I just wish there were a better selection of stores. read more

Not so bad. Appears to have been recently renovated. This mall has ample parking and several department stores. Sears, Dillards, Dicks Sporting Goods, and JCPenney seem to anchor down the corners of the mall. I think I have only been here at off times, but there is hardly a soul to be seen... it's actually almost creepy how empty it is. The up side of that is I never have to wait in line to check out and park right by the door! As far as the other stores in the mall- Victorias Secret, Old Navy, Francesca's, and Ulta are the main draw for me. They had a few other shops but it seemed sparsely populated and empty store fronts. There is a food court, which I have not had the chance to check out yet, but it has a Chick-fil-a and a Cafe du Monde. There is also a Buca di Beppo restaurant attached to the mall that I wouldn't mind checking out. I have definitely been to worse malls, but I have also seen wayyyyyy better! It is a quick hop skip and a jump from the Garden District so it's convenient and easy to get some errands done quickly. read more

Thankfully, this place is slowly improving. They now have an Ulta and a Dick's Sporting Goods. Both of which are pretty big and have a large selection. Old Navy has moved to a different area in the mall and the layout has been completely updated. It looks just like the newer O.N. locations. I hope Oakwood continues to move forward like this! read more

Im gonna give this mall a 4 stars. First of all this mall supports 4 parishes. Yes four. Its the only mall on the west bank and its also making a lot of positive changes as well. Yes there are some janky stores in there but again this is the west bank. People DO shop those janky stores too. The mall is very clean and most of the sales associates are nice. Lakeside is great but parking is crazy!!! And honestly Ur $ better be right to shop there. Im interested to see how this mall will do now that RiverWalk is revamping read more

Empty mall, and an unsafe vibe the whole time. The anchor stores look great, but i felt much safer at Lakeside in Metarie. The crime map of the area is enough to keep a sane person out. Bot worth the possible theft or loss of life. read more

Ughhh! I really don't like this mall, can you tell? It's the only mall on the Westbank, so it is convenient. However, out of the dozens of times that I have been there, I've never met a friendly employee at any of the stores. It's never very crowded which is nice, but the parking lot always seems to be a war zone. The food court is decent, if that's something that's important to you. The store selection isn't really there. The fact that there's very few people there kinda makes the place a little sad to be in, though. If you have a choice I would definitely hit Lakeside or even Esplanade. read more

This mall is very small....they barely have anything in there! Before Katrina, it was known as a mall that predominately sells shoes. Post Katrina, its still the same thing....except they made it look nicer and more up to date. On the positive side, there's a lot of shoe stores if you're in need, a Chick-fil-a, and for the females - a Forever 21. read more

I hate this mall with a passion. Literally everyone that works there looks as if they hate their jobs and are a bunch of jerks! I called to ask about the closest entrance to get into the H&M and the idiot just hung up in my face. It's always been like that-with the stupid idiots that work there and the poor customer service. I wouldn't suggest this mall to anyone ever. Just know that I won't be going back any time soon. read more
