This was my last stop before leaving Detroit. Nothing says "great breakfast" like 2 coney dogs and…read morea Vernors, right? lol Loved the old school counter vibe of this place. The lady behind the counter was nice! The dogs, were delicious! They use a regular non cased hot dog here, so no snap, but the texture was still enjoyable. They pile on the chili and mustard and onions here. Probably the heaviest coney dogs I had all trip. After I was done, I still had a couple forkfuls of chili and onions to scoop up. Super messy, just like all the others. Also.....why do all the coney dog places in Detroit use shitty paper thin napkins? You need to use like 20. All good though, worth it! I can definitely see why Bourdain loved this place. Old school, and delicious!

I get home look in the box and the omelette was slopped together and burned very little yellow showing the has browns were soggy salad looked like scraps and no they did not give me 2 end pieces of toast being that it came from duly i still taste the food not good at all so it was a win for my dog. We just felt a little frustrated that we paid $4 for a bowl of Campbell's soup. The frappe (milkshake) was very tasty and I enjoyed my chicken salad sandwich. Service was great. Fun lunch to break up the long museum day!

The kids also remember back in the day just walking through and wishing they could eat here. Then, it finally happened, and they were so excited! Many, many years ago, I remember my oldest child finally liking chicken pot pie due to this place serving it. Well, over the years the menu has chanced, but the kids still love this experience and can't resist coming here for lunch. True, as stated in another review, the menu is super limited, but it has that charm of an old timey diner. The menu also changes from time to time, so go online before you come or look at the menu at the front before entering, because there are other places to eat, especially when the Village is also open. A couple of us opted for the half chicken salad sandwich and the cup of soup. I got broccoli cheddar and my child got the chicken noodle, but she wished she got the broccoli. We also had chips and bottles of pop, I got the Coke and it was so good and refreshing. I do not love sugar Coke unless it is from the glass bottle (this was cane sugar from Mexico, and really good, not too sweet). The other child got pastrami and cheese with mayo, also very tasty. I love a good old fashion sandwich that I do not need to make myself, it tastes like old school elementary school lunch from my childhood. We also got pies a la mode. One got pumpkin and two got mixed berry, all very good. You do not come here just for the food, this is for the atmosphere and the experience, which is worth it at least once, even though my kids will want it almost every visit.
