We were looking for a new breakfast diner to try out while we were up in Detroit. We came across this place and saw the reviews, so we had to try it out. We came in and sat at the bar area and was wowed by how many people were coming in and out to get their hot breakfast. Within the name, it's known for its pork and wow was that some amazing ham. I ordered the two eggs, ham and Hashbrowns meal and was wanting more. The food is cooked on an open flat grill and the flavor is delicious. The place has been running under the same family for over 30 years. The brothers behind it all were extremely nice and man do they know how to make a fantastic breakfast meal! Why do I have to stop at 5 stars ? Finally made it to this Detroit gem . Well worth the 30 mile drive. Don't think I have ever met a more family friendly group running a restaurant. So I've had the privilege of knowing this family since the day they took over this restaurant in 1996. I lived in SW Detroit only a dozen blocks from here. The building was a video tape rental store then a restaurant much like it is now. After a few year it was sold to Pete and his family. Pete has spent decades not just honing his craft as short order extraordinaire at his own restaurant but worked for another 20+ years prior in various places around the city. We've watched his kids grow up and take major stock in the business. Pete and his sons have playful banter and you feel like they're cooking for you in their home. It had been 10-14 years since we were last there.(we moved out of town 17 years ago) And they recognized us almost immediately. It was like a homecoming. Funny banter, catching up on kids and grandkids etc. Now for the most important part...the food. One heck of a value, large portions and Coney Island goodness. Dearborn ham cut off the bone, crispy bacon and the fluffiest hashbrowns ever. Excellent biscuits and gravy, split pea soup and chili. YUM !! I love there food really good and their really sweet family. Love there food so much. You get slot for a small price.

A great little greasy spoon. You feel like you are walking into these people's kitchen in some eastern european city. The ambience is lacking, but that's not why you go there. If you care about the ambience, the lack of windows and the concertina wire on the roof will deter you before going inside. The chotchkes (including topless female pig figurines baring their bosoms) on the wall provide a nice backdrop for the grown 20-30 something son of the owner who sleeps on one of the booths. There was a cauldron of pig nuts or something bubbling in fat on the griddle, and I understood it was "their" breakfast. They can have it..... Aside from the "charm", the food was great and at great prices, with good friendly service. The ham was fantastic, and puts the overpriced "Honey Baked Ham" stuff to shame. This is the best breakfast place I have been to in a while! The owners are very nice and I love the family style atmosphere.

While this place may lack curb appeal, the food was excellent (and the welcoming atmosphere, made it look like a million dollar restaurant). We had heard good things about their food and decided to try it while in town for the auto show. The owners/staff were so kind, and genuinely cared about their customers. As we sat eating in our booth, an older gentleman, sat at the counter to eat and when the cook gave him his plate, he said, "If you want more, let me know and I will get you more." The compassion for this gentlemen, who needed a good meal, was beyond humbling. You just don't hear that at restaurants now days. We stopped at this restaurant to try it because of the reviews but some didn't go far enough in their praise. If you're looking for modern restaurant, don't bother but if you're looking for tasty food, a pleasant atmosphere and super polite, genuinely friendly staff, well, this is the place for you. Pete cooks everything on a seasoned grill so there's no need for salt. In word, scrumptious! When we arrived we tried the door and it seemed locked so we looked for another entrance. Half-way through the parking lot we heard Pete, the co-owner calling us back. He was dressed in a t-shirt and must have ran from behind the counter to catch us. The temperature hit -5 on this day. Drana our waitress couldn't have been nicer, telling us about how the heat went out that morning and how she and Pete met. We felt so at home and engaged in such intimate conversation, Drana forgot to give us the bill and we didn't think about it until later. When we called to tell them, Pete said, "don't worry about it, pay us when you can." Seriously, who does that?? Even though it's a much further drive, we've found a new lifetime breakfast joint, for sure!!! read more
