A hidden gem we stumbled across (family of 5 on vacation), the Oar House Pub is a great little pub with a nice outside seating area and bar, great food, and great service. The waitress was friendly and attentative. Our food was excellent and they had a nice beer selection (Cant go wrong with Cape May beer). Relaxed atmosphere with public parking lot across the street. The live music is a lot of fun, and makes a good environment. However, I can not say the same for the staff. At the door I was greeted by Butch, he was calling me names and very disrespectful. We had a fun time 4-8pm on Wednesday with Jim Kelly. Good music, dancing, cheap drinks for happy hour but very little alcohol in all our drinks. Apps were good. Service was excellent! Bathrooms were disgustingly dirty which make me question the kitchen cleanliness. The workers are nice and they hustle. The crowd was mixed but definitely an older crowd on Wednesdays. Oh Oar House! To know it is to love it. You don't come to Oar House Pub expecting a fine dining experience. Come for a great time on any day of the week. Oar House is a Sea Isle staple, home to Sunday Funday and host of many incredible live bands and musicians most nights of the week. It took me far too long to realize that Oar House is not only a Sunday day drinking (early evening...) destination, but they have a pretty delicious menu of food. My favorite power move is to get to Oar House around 6 PM on Sundays to catch The Insiders, pay the $10 cover to drink and dance my heart out for a few hours, and then snag a table by 9 PM to eat and then go home to bed. What food items would I recommend? So glad you asked. The mozzarella wedges, the chicken tenders, pulled pork on a pretzel bun, and turkey club. The honey mustard is top notch stuff. The turkey club is gigantic, fresh, and served with a generous portion of fries. We have tried the pretzel and white pizza. Those were good but not my favorites. Personally, I was hoping for a more house made cheese sauce, but found the cheese wiz to be underwhelming for the giant pretzel. The white pizza was good but felt like it needed a little more garlic flavor. It gets loud, even on weeknights. The staff is very kind and helpful. The price points are very fair for what you are given. Now that I am back in Philly for the rest of the summer, I'm really missing Sundays at Oar House Pub. read more

Ordered scallops and crab. It is the Jersey Shore why get anything else? So we sat at a high top table for eight in the bar area. Service was prompt and friendly. The place began to fill up. It was around 7pm on a Thursday. There is a small bar with a nice view of the sunset which we enjoyed as we worked our way through the meal. A live band was setting up as we finished our meal. Seemed like it might be fun to come in later. I got the jumbo lump crab as an appetizer. The crab was great. The presentation uninspiring. There could have been a bit more cocktail sauce and it could have been a bit spicier. Then blackened scallops as a main. It was on the chalkboard as you enter the place - described as a special. They were wonderful. Served with mashed potatoes and some veggies. Highly recommend. Others got various other dishes all were pleased with the food. One of my favorite bands, Fat Mezz, frequently plays here so we finally went to check it out. I've been to several venues in the Jersey shore to hear live music and was really disappointed with this venue. The bathrooms were so cramped and just outright filthy. You couldn't open the bathroom door without hitting someone else and the whole place, not just the bathroom, had a dank smell. It got very crowded in there to the point that people were constantly elbowing us as they passed by. I give them props on getting a hood band as well as having a parking lot even though we got a ticket. read more

I really dislike writing reviews like this, but I'm hoping that the owners see this so that they can make some improvements. I dined here with a party of 6 this past weekend. We called the day before to see if we would need reservations and we were told that they do not take reservations. When we arrived at the restaurant, they asked us if we had a reservation. Huh? The host then proceeded to show us the seating chart so that we could help pick which table we were going to. That was extremely unprofessional and weird. He then offered us a booth that would barely fit 4 people, and then moved us to some hightop tables that were separate from one another, and told us that we couldn't move them to make one big table because the waitresses didn't like that. When the waitress arrived at the table, we asked her if we could, and she said yes. We then proceeded to move the tables ourselves. The tables were very shaky, and practically ready to fall apart. The menus were dirty and the glass brought to the table with my beer was disgusting. The wait staff was very nice and the food was OK, I guess. Still, I think everything else overshadowed it, and I was underwhelmed. I got the crabcake sandwich, others at my table got the salmon dinner and burgers. Nothing too exciting. Nothing special about them. I'm just adding this to the list of other restaurants in this town that are missing the mark completely. Time to go offshore for dinner in the future. read more

This used to be our go to spot for drinks and to listen to a house style band. But they rearranged the bar and stage configuration (possibly as part of noise complaint settlement with local restaurants) to accommodate bands that played larger venues in the area. Now it is too loud to hear yourself think and the sound quality is awful. And sometimes on top of that there is a DJ upstairs. Also on our next to last visit to the Alley Bar, the bartender was petting a dog and did not wash her hands before serving more drinks. BUYER BEWARE!!!! This place is thee biggest rip off on the Jersey coast. Have been going for years but for whatever reason it has gone so far downhill it's not worth going there. We went for drinks and to hear music because the food has gotten so substandard we wouldn't eat there if it's free. Today, the bartender Brian short poured our drinks by not just a little but by about an ounce and a half a drink and then when I had enough and said something he fixed my drink amd the charged me for one more drink than I ordered at over $8 a drink. Seemed the locals they knew got treated especially well though. The was no management in the building, let alone the owner. The young hostess staff seemed like they were drunk. My friends and I stumbled upon this restaurant after finishing a Tiki Cruise around the corner. The atmosphere was great, there was a live singer playing great music. The volume was just right - not too loud or intrusive, just pleasant and enjoyable. The table was nice and the waitress was quick and responsive. she checked on us multiple times and constantly refilled our drinks and water. The food, however, was not good. There were 5 of us and only 2 of our meals were decent. We had to send back the French dip for being salty to the point of inedible. The pizza was definitely long ago frozen and tasteless. The steak tip sandwich was also incredible salty, but edible. The only meal that was OK was the turkey club. Also, the French dip sandwich mysteriously had a shrimp tail on the plate which makes me question the kitchen. I should note that they graciously took the inedible meals off the tab. When you're down the shore you're not expecting great quality food, but this was below expectations. I would still recommend it based on the location, atmosphere, service, and music! read more

Went on a Friday night, they had a good band and could hear them cleary from all points of the restaurant. Staff is Extremely friendly & good at what they do. They made the kids ages 6,8,10 all feel comfortable and the 4 parents as well. I went with 2 items off the special board. Crab Stuffed mushrooms & the blackened scallops Alfredo. it was my friends 20th birthday and we wanted to get some apps and food after a day at the beach. we went up to the bouncer and asked how to get a table. He was EXTREMELY rude to us and told us to leave immediately. we were not 21 but we just asked to get food at a table. after we finally asked multiple times for a table we got in. we were sitting at a table till 10-10:15 when the bouncer came around and pointed his finger to the door and told us we need to leave. we had paid our bill but were just sitting there listening to the band and hanging out together at the table. doing nothing wrong i don't understand why it was a big deal. the bouncer was AGAIN extremely rude to us and forced us out. Being a bartender myself i have never seen such rude behavior from a bouncer. if i saw this at my bar i would be very angry for how the bouncer was treating customers DO NOT GO THERE. they do not deserve your money or time for the horrible experience we had. Visited 08/04/2019 Came here for dinner with bro/sis-in-law. Nothing fancy, but clearly a good place to 'hang out'. A couple of good size bars with plenty of TVs to watch. But we came here for something to eat so we ordered some calamari (with srirachi sauce) small but tender calamari and pretty tasty. We also shared the fried crab balls, which were really good. After pondering a $57 surf and turf, I convinced my wife the $16 early bird special... shrimp scampi, which was surprisingly good although the shrimp were a bit overcooked. The service was very prompt and friendly and "Michelle" answered all the questions we had. A couple of beers and glasses of wine and we left pretty happy. I doubt we'll come back here, but only because there are so many other great restaurants in this area, as well as Cape May. read more

First review ever, that's how annoying it was. 6 of us at front bar ignored by female bartender. Can't get a drink or acknowledged we're there. Finally a guy who works there asks if we've been served (not the bartender) & gets us a round of drinks, we ask for menu's. 20-25 minutes later bartender still has not made eye contact or acknowledgement. We politely ask her for attention, she turns away holding up a finger. 10 minutes later we walk out. Absolutely horrible! The food was terrible. And drinks served half ass. My husband ordered a dirty martini & was given his drink with no olives. Fried calamari was completely over cooked. There was a five year old little girl running all over the place, her mom is a regular so this was allowed. The bathroom is disgusting and filthy. Don't order food. The portions are insulting. My 13 dollar caprese salad was 3 grape tomatoes cut in half with three very small mozz balls cut in half. Disgraceful. Good atmosphere.
