The Oasis Bar & Gril, back in 1977
    Charlie S.

Been going to the "O" for 50 years now. Found it back in 1975...It was the place to hang in my college days. Stacy became the owner around 1976. The 'O' was smaller back then, but they expanded and added lots of pool tables and raised the roof. BEST BURGERS in town! And Monday night is '2 for price of 1' Burger Night (that also goes back 50 years). The 'O' (Oasis Bar and Grill) is essence of Chico...I am old now but hope to keep headed to the 'O' for another 10 or 20 years. Love the place. I still have a glass pitcher from 1977 that kind of came home with me on 'Dollar Pitcher' night (those prices are gone) but I still have the pitcher. Guess I should return it -- laugh

My favorite cheeseburger and skinny fries in town!

Love this bar for the BRST cheeseburger in town. Staff is super friendly and always remember my name. Conveniently located close to work so makes for an easy getaway for lunch. If you haven't been you must try!

The wings are the obvious move here. Bella's has built a reputation around them for a reason. They're big, messy, loaded with flavor, and absolutely not something you order when you're trying to look civilized. If you leave with completely clean hands, I'm not sure you actually ate wings. The rest of the food holds its own too, but coming to Bella's and not at least considering the wings feels slightly disrespectful. The atmosphere is exactly what you want from a downtown sports pub. TVs everywhere, games on, people talking over each other, drinks moving around, and enough noise to make the place feel alive without completely losing the ability to have a conversation. On a big game day, it's even better. Service has always been friendly and laid-back in my experience, even when they're slammed. There's nothing overly polished about Bella's, and honestly, I wouldn't want there to be. That's part of the charm. I don't go out in downtown Chico nearly as much as I used to, but Bella's is still one of those places I'm always happy to end up at. Good wings, cold drinks, sports on every screen, and that familiar downtown Chico energy. Some places don't need to reinvent themselves. They just need to keep doing what made people like them in the first place. Bella's is one of those places.

So, Bella's has one of the best Happy Hours, IMO. I love me a cold brew off the tap (Sierra Nevada)…read morealong with their loaded tots. Our server was prompt, polite, and friendly, which we appreciated. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated with lots of natural light and a pleasant atmosphere. I'd describe it as "Chico nice" -- casual and trendy, but not fine dining or especially refined service. The food was okay to good, but nothing memorable. We ordered the avocado toast, chicken sandwich, a beer, and a sweet drink, and the total came to about $72. Everything was perfectly fine, just not the kind of food or experience that would make me want to return, especially for a birthday celebration. Overall, it's a decent spot for a casual lunch, but it didn't feel particularly special for the price.

I especially loved the curly cheese fries, and the fried chicken sandwich was good too. The place is steeped in history. I'm not really a bar person and the energy isn't quite my vibe, but there's a lot to appreciate--especially the wild ceilings packed with random items. It's unique and full of character, even if it isn't perfectly aligned with my usual preferences. My husband, a local who grew up in Butte County, shared some great stories about his Chico State days, back when this was still a quieter town of wealthy families with unpaved roads. Those little pieces of local history made the visit even more interesting. A solid, character-filled stop if you enjoy the Bar vibe, you're hungry after a hike and open to a place with real personality.

Loads of TVs with a variety of sports events playing. We ordered at the counter and then sat down at a table. We only waited about 15 minutes to get our food. My son and I ordered the Great Bacon Burger and specialized it to our liking. I ordered the side salad and he got curly fries. His roommate ordered the Near Burger with curly fries. When we got our food, the boys' burgers were not the way they had ordered them (one had cheese and the other had tomatoes). And it wasn't clear was whose was whose. My side salad was basic basic fare. I should have ordered the curly fries. I probably won't be back, but it was fun to visit the iconic Chico restaurant.

My husband is always happy with their burgers, and I'm a big fan of the fried chicken burger (the Milanesas). The only recurring miss is the cauliflower--it tends to come overcooked and dry. Not bad enough to complain but really weren't up to standard based on price and description. We ordered the Special which was a pile of angel hair pasta mixed with pesto in the middle (very dry), and around that it was supposed to have chicken, asparagus, roasted garlic and heirloom tomatoes. I can't remember what else. I only found two small bites of chicken. Not worth $34. The other dish was the Chicken Picatta and the sauce was very thick, not the lighter thin sauce with capers we've become used to and green bell peppers were one of the veggies they added to the pasta. Those are so over powering to the other flavors of artichoke hearts and mushrooms. The balance of ingredients was just off for how much money they now charge.
