I blame my daughter for this review. Last week we were headed to sushi when the smell coming from Parkside Tap House ambushed us on the sidewalk. Being pregnant, she's operating with heightened food detection abilities that rival military technology, so she immediately declared, "We're coming back here." A week later we returned with her boyfriend and brother, and what followed can best be described as a competitive eating event. The hostess greeted us warmly, got us seated quickly, and we settled into the lively outdoor patio. Great atmosphere, cold drinks, sports on the TVs, and just enough energy to feel fun without feeling chaotic. We started with ahi bites, beer cheese pretzels, jalapeño poppers, and Brussels sprouts. The ahi bites were fantastic. Fresh ahi, creamy avocado, crispy wontons, and a little heat at the finish line. The pretzels were soft enough to pull apart with your fingers and the beer cheese was rich and addictive. The jalapeño poppers got an unexpected upgrade from the blackberry BBQ sauce, which gave them a sweet, smoky personality all their own. Then there were the Brussels sprouts. Whoever thought of pairing Brussels sprouts with blackberry drizzle deserves a raise. Sweet, savory, crispy, tender, and impossible to stop eating. For dinner we sampled the taco bowl, brisket bowl, rice bowl loaded with brisket, and a house salad. The taco bowl was colorful, fresh, and loaded with flavor. The brisket bowl was my personal favorite. Smoky brisket over fried rice with vegetables, crispy wontons, cotija cheese, and a sweet-spicy sauce that kept me digging in long after I should have stopped. The rice bowl with added brisket was almost comical when it arrived. Massive chunks of brisket perched on top like they owned the place. Tender, smoky, juicy, and worth every penny. Even the house salad was fresh enough to remind us we were technically eating vegetables. What stood out most was that every dish felt like someone in the kitchen actually cared. Nothing felt thrown together. Portions were generous, flavors were bold, and everything hit the table looking as good as it tasted. We originally found Parkside by following our noses. Walking by the place, it had nice seating outdoors and an overall friendly vibe. Going in, we were a little confused on how we were being served as there was no one in the front, we had to go to the bar to get somone. one thing that also stood out to me was how clean the bathroom was. which is always something i look out for as well. the person taking our orders was extremely friendly. she was recommending drinks to us. we ended up getting the mangonada slushies that were super tasty. i recommend that. dont remember exactly what we got but it was a chicken sandwich with added avocado and fries. it was extremely good, the portion of fries were more than enough. definitely would come again if i was visiting chico. read more

Despite the restaurant being almost empty when we went at 11:30 we weren't able to be seated for nearly 30 minutes because they didn't have enough servers. By the time we finally sat, we were definitely ready to order, so it was confusing trying to track down a waiter because we didn't have good Wi-Fi service in the restaurant to use the QR code at the table. When the food finally did arrive it was really good so that's the only reason it's a three star instead of one or two. read more

Slow Sunday Football day. Came for a quick bite & to watch Raider game. Lots of beer on tap & full bar. Took a minute for waitress to get our order, but she was very nice. Checked back later & filled waters. Parkside has yard games & kids are welcome. Happy Hour menu is 3-6 pm on Sundays with $1 off draft beers. We ordered ahi bites (they definitely have a spicy kick) and pork belly sliders which were not available. Both are 3 for $10 on HH menu. Ordered Bbq beef sliders instead at full price. Food came out pretty fast. There are TVS inside and out. Outside also has misters for our hot Chico days. Great place for groups and a meeting room for larger parties. Stopped here while setting up our student for the new semester at Chico State. Easy walking distance from the campus. Location was good and they have a nice outdoor patio. Prices for meals ranged between $14-$20. We had the mother cluckin burrito , taco bowl and pesto chicken sandwich. The burrito was probably the best of the group and probably a 3 to 4 star rating. The pesto chicken sandwich was okay and a solid 3 stars. It said it came with a balsamic reduction which would have balanced out the taste profile, but it just didn't come through and appeared to be missing altogether when I opened up the sandwich. The taco bowl started off okay but quickly turned into a 1 star sloppy mess with too much liquid which made it into more of a mush bowl. They appeared to be understaffed with servers resulting in slow service and no checkins until we were ready to go. Overall it is 3 stars, with so many places to try in Chico I probably would go somewhere else before revisiting. read more

My girl and I stopped by Parkside for brunch before we hit the road back to Sacramento! There was no wait and it super empty on a Sunday around 12. I got the French toast with fruit. It was okay, nothing spectacular. My gf got the chicken sliders with potatoes. The chicken sliders were great and had so much flavor! And the potatoes were also soooo good and super crunchy! Bartender was very friendly and constantly checked on us. Food was good but not worth what we paid for it. Drink had lavender and tasted like soap- pass on any of those drinks. Ordered the brisket bowl, it was a bowl of rice, asparagus and broccoli with 4, 1-inch pieces of brisket. Had great flavor but when I pay for brisket, I want brisket. I Visited parkside for a company dinner party in their banquet room, great experience! Our server's name was Lexi and she had a gentleman with her named Julian helping her out. As soon as I joined the party, Lexi spotted me as a newbie to the party and collected my drink order. Since they have those handy I pads my order was sent right a way and my drink magically appeared in less than 5 minutes! Shortly after appetizers were delivered to our party, we had a spread of Pretzels and Beer cheese and their Brussel sprouts. Holy delish pretzels!!! I don't do bread often but when I do, it'll be the soft, buttery, salty pretzels here! The Brussels were also delish! As everyone was mingling, Lexi and Julian made rounds and made sure everyone was happy. And a big plus, especially in awkward company events, never had an empty glass! Our dinner was catering style, with 2 big Salads, mixed veggies, tri tip, chicken, and salmon, and basically every kind of potato you can have. All delish! I don't usually like chicken at a restaurant but was actually my fave, juicy and flavorful. Dinner was topped with brownies for dessert, yummm. Once dinner was over, a group moved outside to the patio and joined some locals in a game of corn hole and giant Jenga. Have been here a few times. Really like the layout with the part inside/part outside bar. There are games in the outdoor area. Drink specials that I have had are just ok, but usually stick to beer. I have had the french dip, a burger, and they used to offer a lobster grilled chese that was super rich, but excellent. They no longer had that on the menu last time. Very disappointing. Always have had really good service. It was SO hot the last time I was there, and it was so nice that they had misters outside! Will be back for sure. read more

When he came around we ordered drinks and some appetizers, we didn't plan on having full entrees. The artichoke dip and BBQ sliders were okay. The drinks were also just okay. But after we received our food and drinks we never saw our server again. A different person had to bring out our bill. Just had a wonderful lunch with one of my favorite work sisters. I ordered the French dip and it was absolutely amazing. The bread had the perfect crunch on the outside to the delicious soft bread inside. The meat was tender, I could taste the mushrooms and the cheese. It was so good. My only critique is the flavor of the au jus was a little bland but nothing salt and pepper couldn't cure. Our server Abby was attentive to us. It was a great visit. This would have been a four star review if not for the manager on shift on Friday 5/10. Drinks were great, bartenders were great, and then around 9:30 we first experienced the manager who was rude, self focused and demonstrated the kind of customer service you associate with Jack-in-the-Box. The other servers all sort of averted their eyes as they dealt with what is something they've clearly experienced before. I had a really bad experience at Parkside tap house in chico on 5-10-24. I am visiting Chico for my 23rd birthday and went bar hopping with a ton of friends for my bday. Keep in mind I am visiting from out of state, Oregon. Well we came upon parkside went in ordered and drink and the bartender disappeared with my ID. 5 minutes go by and the bartender is talking the the SO CALLED MANAGER TREVOR. I walk up and ask what the problem is, they proceed to tell me My ID/Drivers license is fake and they can't serve me, TREVOR and the bartender proceeded to argue with me about my id being fake which it is not. One of the 2 workers either Trevor or the bartlender broke a corner off of my license causing me to have to go get a new one when I get back home. IF THESE GUYS CANT READ A REAL ID IMAGINE HOW MANY FAKE ONES THAT THEY HAVE LET IN TRULY SAD. OUT OF STATERS BEWARE. Haven't been to Parkside in a while and decided to go with a group of friends. We wanted to enjoy a couple of drinks and dancing, I ordered a pretty generic drink a Paloma but it wasn't a Paloma. I asked if I could get another drink but the bartender rolled their eyes and made the same exact drink. Soon as we decided to step out this young curly haired employee literally ran from wherever inside to the middle of the ramp and YELLED aggressively because we had a water cup. What we understood was no alcohol can be taken past the gates but to be yelled at aggressively because we had a water cup? Definitely not the kind way to be approached. We understand that it gets loud with the music but to be yelled at right at the face, NOT acceptable. This is all being done while the general manger (owner or security) he had black framed glasses is standing there and doesn't say a word to the curly haired employee for yelling at us the way he did. They specifically said they "wanted to tackle a girl with a water cup." All he did was nod his head, we brush it off and walk away to meet a friend. We then jump back in line not letting that rude situation get to us, we were going to enter back in through the "exit" because we were told they are letting girls go in through that way. We are again then stopped and my boyfriend did have a question for the manager (owner or security man) about getting in and this man threatened to knock my boyfriend out. This was SO Unexpected! Our whole group heard and the three people ahead of us as well. We did not deserve to be treated that way by the Staff at Parkside. We didn't start any kind of trouble or bad mouthed the staff. Our group came in for a couple beers, sat at the bar and immediately witnessed who I'm guessing was the bar manager intentionally rub up against one of the female bar staff. She did not appear to be impressed by his less than subtle attempt at copping a feel. We drank our beers and attempted to order another round(for some reason). We were refused service for some reason. I can generally handle more than one Corona..... The bar manager was running around and popping off to people like a rooster on crack. I've left plenty of restaurant/bars disappointed but that was the first time I've left one creeped out. Too bad, the space is beautiful and full of potential. read more

I didn't have any food but it looked really good! I came for this drink, Lower Park Lavender, my friend was raging about. It was SO GOOD. Really light and not overpowering or tart. Wow. Seems like this is a summer seasonal drink so if they take it off the menu in the winter I'm going to be real sad. I'm sure I'll find another winter drink I enjoy but man, that lavender got me hooked. I graduated from Chico about 5 years ago and I love to visit still. I really like that there's more adult restaurants/bars, you know, ones without sticky floors and specials on AMFs. I guess this place was the old Wells Fargo so if you're in the very front you won't have any cell reception because that was where the vault was. They have a nice patio with a bar and seating and fun games. The bartenders were really great. My only issue was that they accidentally charged me for someone else's tab. Make sure you check your receipts, kids. I told them and they apologized and issued me a refund then charged me the correct amount. A simple mistake, I usually try to pay with cash or close out every time I go to a bar because it does happen sometimes. Parking in downtown Chico can definitely be challenging, so keep that in mind. Aesthetically parkside is awesome. It has a really big indoor area. The ceilings are high and spacious and there are multiple seating areas that allow you to have some more intimate moments even though it's really just a very big room. The back patio is also very cool. There are a lot of seating that consist of tables, chairs, long tables and more. Since it's winter it was also nice that they had the heaters going and a fire. I felt really toasty outside:). As always it's good to give an establishment the benefit of doubt when reading negative reviews. And unsurprisingly like many of the other reviews here I found that the service was not good at all. The bartenders are not attentive and seem as if all they want to do is chat and ignore the patrons. Like you can literally spend minutes eyeing the bartender to get their attention even though they're trying to look busy when the whole place is not. The vibe that you get is definitly not welcoming at all. And honestly ruins my experience. The trends I saw on other reviews definitly runs true in my experience. Service here = Bad service. Based on that it also seems that management is not trying / doesn't care that their service department is lacking. The only reason parkside is getting 2 stars is that it is a nicely furnished place. The vibe seems like it would be pretty chill and they have a variety of things on tap. Other than that if it was based on service I would rate it with lower stars. read more

This is one of the fancier restaurants of Chico, very modern, but overpriced. It can be fun with a group but the music selection for dancing could be improved. Also, the bartenders do a great job at getting to everyone, even when crowded so the service overall is pretty good. I've only eaten here twice and I actually enjoyed their overpriced food. However, I will never eat here again because the crab cakes gave me food poisoning. I'm not even easily prone to getting food poisoning so that's disgusting. Everything else we've had here has been good, but nothing we love as much as the pretzels. First the menu online is not accurate. This was our second time there. The first time it took 30 minutes just to get a drink. This time took just as long for the waitress to get to us. When when did (and every time after ) she was rude and short. Our appetizer was frozen. Our salad came with our entree. Food was just ok. service was awful; we were going to close our tab outside and open a new one inside as my kiddos were cold. server took our drink orders , then we never saw him again. The food runner served us and we tried to politely flag him down for more drinks , then request to close tab to open on inside , then just for the check And my kiddos and I were ignored .
