I recommend bringing cash to tip, so you're tipping for just the service vs tipping on top of the add-ons and on tax. With tip my service came out to $198, you can do cheaper massages elsewhere but you get what you pay for.

Frankly, I'd much rather have Ray's masterful ministrations upon my flesh, and the aching muscles underneath, than some artifice constructed to "relax" me. Besides, if you aren't relaxed after a few minutes with Ray, there's little hope that anything else might help. Before a massage, I usually tell my masseur that I am quite ticklish. I explained this to Ray before we got down to business. And as he administered the most amazing massage I have ever had I was completely surprised to almost never get tickled. Unlike any massage before, mine at Face to Face NYC with Ray felt like it was really designed for me. It involved a great deal of stretching which felt amazing. And Ray is superbly intuitive and also has a keen understanding of anatomy. And he's wicked strong. Where other massage therapists feel like they're simply going through the motions, I felt like Ray was very present and had a genuine desire to leave me feeling better than he found me. I think Ray is actually gifted for this kind of bodywork. In a way that I, personally, have not experienced before. I had a massage elsewhere a week later and the entire time on the table I could only think of Ray. It is possible that he has ruined me for all others. After having been to spas all over the city for facials I am happy to commend madison spa (Irina) to be a great revelation. Here's what my first facial was like: The place is tucked in between streets on Madison Avenue. It's got nice treatment rooms. Irina (she did my facial) definitely knows what goes into keeping skin relaxed and happy. I went in with slightly blotchy skin and acne scars. She analysed my skin before making suggestions as to what kind of a facial was best suited for me. She was honest about my skin and how I could treat it better. Also not once during the two hour facial, did she push any product endorsement on me (big plus). Irina then proceeded to treat my skin for two hours (including treatment time for face packs). My facial included a mini micro derm, an oxygen facial and extractions. She was very thorough without pinching my skin. The best part about this facial was that the next day my skin was actually not red or more blotchy than usual. I received my fair share of compliments over the next few days as my skin looked rested and happy. I would love to go back there and see how this feels after 3-4 facials. Definitely recommend.

It felt kinda shady and I didn't feel very welcome. My girlfriend and I were showed our room and told that we would take turns learning to massage each other for an hour with a masseuse. Our instructor was very kind and surprisingly funny but the level of difficulty of the lesson was extremely low. He showed us the simplest hand movements and he even agreed that we could go on YouTube for everything these days. Plus, our masseuse kinda smelt bad. I truly don't mean to be rude but you would expect to be relaxed in a spa. Following our lesson, we were instructed to meet the woman at the counter. She immediately told us that we owed cash for tips/taxes. I told her that I only had $5 in cash but that I had a debit card. She responded, "I told you on the phone to bring enough cash". Service here is impeccable. They are thoughtful, kind, the ambiance and feel of this place is amazingly peaceful and it's super duper clean. All the things you need in a spa. They've even got some sort of sound proofing thing going on because whenever I've come here there hasn't been traffic noise - it's truly a peaceful oasis in an otherwise frantically crowded neighborhood. That being said, I've now come here a few times. My manicure have always been ooookaaaaaay. But I return because it's a wonderful experience. You lie down, there are comfy pillows, almost an eerie silence with very calming music playing overhead and it always smells lovely. It's a great way to spend a lunch hour and kind of recharge your batteries after a rough morning. This past visit (probably like my 5th or 6th - I don't always remember to check in) my manicure really wasn't okay. It was bad. I hate having to do things like ask for the nail file and file my own nail after someone makes it significantly shorter and files it into a crooked square shape...when I try to keep my nails a nice medium length (rather than short :-/) and I was clear about wanting a more rounded square. I had to fix a few after I was done...I also had to ask for my (very attentive) nail tech to paint the sides where she would miss a lot of my nail...having to fix some left some nails darker than others. She also did one coat of the deep blood red polish I chose and then a top coat. Any polish, especially darker colors require a minimum of 2 coats. This is pretty common nail polish knowledge. She was so nice and I was nice about it but after paying and getting to my office I was pretty horrified at how my nails looked. They were all really weird. Lots of marks, lots of unnecessary thickness, some air bubbles - I was pretty upset. There's also usually a brief complimentary back rub done afterwards which is a really nice treat and something I got used to the previous times I've come here which makes the experience worth coming back for considering every mani I've had here has been ooookay. Yesterday's was not okay. There are photos. Today I've got two nail polishes where the polish has chipped from just typing at work...my normal Astoria spot manicures generally last me 3 weeks. I'll probably return sometime for a couples massage or something as I mentioned my fondness for this place to my husband, but I don't know if I'd come back for another manicure. I don't do my nails that often and I need consistency...plus it hurts to spend money on something that's meant to treat myself and the final result is something I could have done to myself 100% better.
