So my father would come here as a kid when he lived in jersey city. As I grew up, this is where he always stopped to get doughnuts. This isn't like one of those made to order doughnut shops. This is a old school style doughnut shop. There is always a line and when they sell out then that's it. You should go early and if you like crumb cake you should definitely try the crumb cake. Probably one of my favorite spot for pastries down in Tom's River it throws you off when you arrive there and you see vintage signage on the roof announced Ob-Co's Ice Cream but low and behold once you walk to the window, you're greeted by a great variety of doughnuts and crumb cakes (must try)! They come in all shapes and sizes ranging from jelly, cinnamon swirls & twists(must try!) , glazed, plain, powdered, apple fritters (must try!), éclairs, cinnamon swirls and twists. They only accept cash and you gotta get there before 8:00 during the summer times or expect to wait in a long line. I spoke to one of the Hoffman owners who took over from the original owners named O'Brien and Collard started it in 1953 and he retired from NJ Transit in the early 2000's and they start at 1:00AM and open at 5:00AM You can't help but to try them immediately, have to say their ORIGINAL Crumb cakes are better than what I have experienced up in North Jersey, you see a steady flow of regular customers and tourists seemed to be just as excited once you arrive, brace yourself for a sweet ride and enjoy! read more

These are good - just good - doughnuts that all taste the same, except for the birthday-cake doughnut. What really left a bitter taste in my mouth was waiting in line with miscreants who blocked the window of mislabeled doughnuts, which I couldn't see until I had to order. Then, everyone yelled their selections over others and inevitably misheard and had to repeat their orders multiple times. That's way too much hassle for a Sunday morning. ALL OF THIS could be avoided if there were printouts of the doughnuts available where people could write how many they wanted of each. We were driving by on our way out from the beach house in Lavallette and decided to pull in. We got the fritter ball, boston creme and chocolate glaze. Just missed out on the Oreo one I had my eye on but the group ahead of us got the last one. They were all pretty good, just nothing spectacular in my opinion. They were comparable to a dunkin donuts but the fritter ball was unique. I found the chocolate glazed to be a little dry. I'd come back but I wouldn't go out of my way. If there were an option I'd rate them 3.5 stars, they are definitely closer to 4 than they are 3. read more

Truly excellent. Tried on Saturday around 2pm they were sold out, and Sunday at 10am they were out of a few things but the classics were there. Jelly, cream, cake, St. Joseph's pastry... all delicious, simple, light, slight crunch and not greasy. Also not painfully sweet. So rarely does something offer exactly what it says- fresh doughnuts, we're done when we're sold out, lights are off don't bother driving up. Let me begin by saying the only donut I truly enjoy is a jelly donut. That said I've eaten three of these since this morning. These donuts do not have an overly fried flavor which is what I believe I do not like about most other donuts. I really enjoyed the jelly donut when in other donuts I just eat the jelly. My family and I have been going here since the 90's and it's hands down the best doughnut/bakery. There strawberry, vanilla and chocolate classic frosted doughnuts are our favorite.
