Our road trip to Springfield has been full of gems worth adding to your list of must do places! Every local person we encountered recommended this restaurant to us. I'm fairness, it was already on my list, but all the endorsements only added to our excitement. I wish the weather had been more agreeable so we could enjoy the outdoor space. The inside is quaint and cozy with room for small or large parties. Tina took excellent care of us during our visit. She was friendly and helpful making excellent suggestions on the menu. We had been recommended the artichoke dip so we started with that!!! Whew! This stuff is fantastic!! A bubbly creamy and cheesy with a generous amount of artichoke. The dip is served along side fried pita wedges. This was the perfect vehicle for such a hearty dip. The menu boasts burgers, sandwiches, entree sized salads, and comfort food meals. For meals we went with the pub burger, brisket burger, and a soup & salad. We weren't disappointed that's for sure. The stand out was the tender brisket and the delicious sauce covering the meat. I forgot to ask what brand this is to see if I could get some to take home. The soup that night was potato and it definitely hit all the marks. We were too full for dessert. The offerings are bread pudding and gooey butter cake. Being from St. Louis, those are usually pretty hard to beat from the options we have at home. But if you're unfamiliar with gooey butter cake, you can get a little taste of The Lou while in Springfield. read more

We'd been to the Lincoln National Historical Park and saw this was in walking distance (about a block away). It was busy and they told us a 25-30 minute wait, so we sat at the bar to eat instead. Turned out to be over 45 minutes before we got our food! The bartender was busy but very efficient and friendly. New people in the kitchen and new menu items seemed to cause the delay. My husband had the pulled pork bbq plate and it was good. I got the legendary Horseshoe Sandwich. Angus beef burger on the toast, with white cheese sauce and fried on top. It was really tasty! We decided to try the place on recommendations from several Yelpers. We found it to be a standard hamburger joint dropped into a classic Springfield building. No frills. Atmosphere much like any other burger joint but our food choices were quite good. My wife enjoyed her Whiskey-glazed salmon and cucumber salad (just the right size for her hunger level but would not be enough for someone really hungry). I had a burger with cheese, bacon and onion grilled perfectly medium rare. Service was timely and businesslike...no chit chat from the server. I wouldn't seek out another visit but would return if in the mood for a good burger. read more

First time visitors from out of state on a Saturday. 20 min wait for a table; enjoyed craft beer at the bar while we waited. Grumpy Toddler raspberry sour was great! Other beers as well-stout, watermelon wheat, ipa all good as well. Fine service in bar and dining area. Tasty food. I had turkey wrap and green beans. Very quaint spot for a meal near to the Lincoln National Historic Site. Howling wind on a balmy February night. Bellied to the bar and requested a beer recommendation. Two shot glasses with small tastes in each. That's quite nice. My taste buds get to choose, and Obed's Pride Amber it was. Of the two I tasted, they are both quite hoppy, West Coast-style, but with more depth and structure. Amber has a beginning bite and then a sweet finish, quite nice for sipping, especially if rested for a couple minutes. I ordered one of the Valentine's Day specials: pork medallions (appeared to be butterfly chops separated), mashed potatoes, sweet corn, and cake. Pork was quite nice with a simple, sweet barbecue sauce, sweet corn ample yet simple; but the tators were the big hit. Rough mashed with a thick gravy with a mole consistency. Just worked really well. This was a nice plate of food. One thing that deserves noting: if a place wants to sell beer, dump salt in the food. Yet, nothing was over salted. I can't stress how significant this is. The dessert was the only thing that missed. Sheet cake is a whimsical touch, but it's still sheet cake: dry and rather flavorless. I'm reminded of the scene in the film Kingdom of Heaven when Saladin is asked what Jerusalem means and he responds, "nothing," turns and walks away, momentarily pauses, turns back and finishes, "everything." Such is my attitude toward dessert. It's important and I can't really explain why. This is a five star joint, great service, fun menu, good food, fine beer, lots of fun. And, I got a free cup! Look forward to returning when I'm back in Springfield. read more

The food is always good here, but the service was very slow today. Unfortunately, my lamb burger was disappointing--it looked more like two overcooked sausage patties, and I doubt there was even 4 oz of lamb in it, especially for the $2.50 upcharge. It must have just been an off day. read more

The scotch eggs were a delight. The mustard paired especially well. The fish fillets were much larger than I expected and tasted delicious and not super watery. The waitstaff was friendly and provided prompt service. The ambiance was my favorite part, I appreciated the newspaper menus and the nod the Lincoln's home only a block away. read more

A cool local brewery is in Springfield and is actually a kind of classy experience. Obed & Isaac's is a pretty big brewery in downtown close to other cool stuff. It's not only beer they have here, but they're known for the food too. Food isn't just the typical bar stuff like chips and crap. They have burgers, salads, and many options. Convenient for those going into downtown. It's located close to a few other good restaurants such as Loukinen's. The inside can get packed but there's also a patio. Friendly place for a brewery. They're welcoming to families, and dogs too. Has a not large but still impressive menu of beers. It's about $7 a pint. Best one is the Hefeweizen. This also has the option of becoming the 6th Street Summer Shandy when they add lemonade and Sprite. Of course we had to get food. We got the House Salad. It's about $7 for a small one. This is one of the few foods that are vegetarian. As for the rest of the food, it gets expensive. They have burgers and more. Good beers. It has one of the nicest patios. The food is better than at most breweries even though it has pretty few options for vegans and vegetarians. read more

I've been giving out 5-star reviews lately... Honestly, thanks to everyone for the ballin recommendations. Ohh Springfield, IL. What a cute little quiet town. Stopping at Obed and Isaac's was a great treat and a pleasant surprise. Upon walking in, it felt homey. Like a place, you become a regular and everyone there knows your name. They had plenty of beers too, so I started to warm up REAL quickly. So, they are famous for horseshoes. It's meat on top of toast with cheese and French fries. I was a little skeptical at first, but listen, this was great! I did it with the Angus beef. It was so tasty and really helped combat the cold and rainy weather outside. Come here for burgers and brews. Totally a few levels above just run of the mill pub food. Servers are great, they can help with a lot of the beer selections if you are not sure what to order. I have never actually left a restaurant review before, but this was so upsetting I had to share. My family and I go to obed and Issac's every time we are downtown, and we typically love it. The food and atmosphere are both great. Unfortunately, our experience this time around was very bad. We walked in and the restaurant was quite busy, we requested a table for 7 and the wait was supposed to be 20-30 mins. Well we ended up waiting for about 90 mins. We continues to try and get the attention of the hostess, but to be honest, she was very rude. We have all worked in the food industry, so we are always understanding and easy to work with. We kept watching tables of 4 and even 5 get sat before us, we asked if we could just split up our group and they said they will work on it. We got ahold of another woman who could have been the manager and she also gave us a nasty attitude. She kept saying "we are working on it ma'am " and rolling her eyes, but another 20 mins would go by. Our server was great after we were sat and the food was delicious as always, I just wish we did not have to encounter those two employees after a long day. read more

What a fabulous find in the downtown of Illinois' capital city. The opportunity to enjoy craft beer, a pleasant patio, and outstanding shareables makes for the most inviting of opportunities. A reclaimed older home sits at the corner of 6th & Jackson, just north of the Old Aristocracy Hill area. Obed & Isaac's blended a vintage look with an esoteric brewpub theme to create this destination. A temperate July afternoon afforded us the opportunity to sit on the patio, emphasizing the comfort of the place. I do love me a good brown ale, and Obed's Upside Brown was an outstanding selection. Medium body, with a roasty coffee malt flavor, and it paired perfectly with some of the best Parmesan artichoke dip I have ever had. The Parmesan artichoke dip comes with flash-fried pita chips, which is so much better than a tortilla chip. Bubbly and gooey, this is a spectacular shareable. I wish that I were local, because besides being a very dog-friendly patio, I would love to take advantage of the bocce ball leagues and game playing that is available. Not far from Illinois' State Capitol Building and Abe Lincoln's tomb is this quaint microbrewery/restaurant. The quality is decent here and the chef takes interesting chances. The interior is informal and a little too tight or claustrophobic for larger parties. The outdoor seating looks fun. The micro beers were good, but memorable but then again, I'm not a big lover of beer. I heard the Watermelon Sour is pretty good. For appetizers, we had the pulled pork nachos. They were different. The "nachos" had a consistency of something more like mini-pizza bites. Very filling but good. I decided to try the peanut butter and bacon jam cheeseburger on a pretzel bun. Wasn't bad. Filling but a little too weird for me to order again. If you wanna try something different, don't be shy. I asked for the burger to be cooked medium but seemed well done which made the patty less juicy or flavorful. For dessert, we tried the bread pudding. Not bad but too buttery and too sweet. If you have a sweet tooth, you'll be in heaven. I prefer lightly sweet over excessively sweet like what I had here. All in all, you'll be satisfied if you eat here. The staff are very reliable and friendly. Would consider coming here again when in Springfield. read more

Stopped here for a quick lunch while in the area. Sat at a high top in the bar because there was no wait. Service was quick. Reduced 1 star because the birder we ordered listed beer sautéed onions, mushrooms and Gouda. It came out with those three topping plus lettuce, tomato, raw onions and pickle. My fiancé hates pickle. Even after taking it off he still tasted it. We would have sent it back but didn't have time. Also why would you put raw onion on something that has sautéed onion. I got the chicken and goat cheese wrap. This has potential of being good. The chicken was a little dry. I loved goat cheese but they spread a thick layer of it on the wrap so some bites were overbearing of goat cheese. It would have tasted better with crumbles evenly spread throughout. We visited Obed & Isaac's Microbrewery and Eatery after reading some shit online about Springfield that highly recommended this place. The place is located nearby the Lincoln stuff, which is convenient for a tourist such as myself. The actual building is a preserved historical mansion and for that alone, it's a unique experience. They also have an outdoor beer garden and I'm a ho for those but we were seated inside. Our visit was on a Friday night at around 9pm did not require a wait but every table in the room we sat in was full. No masks or social distancing. I did get vibes that the clientele was the anti-vax-covid-isn't-real-fake-news-will-do-anything-to-make-biden-look-bad-even-if-it-kills-people-and-destroys-our-country kind of crowd but I could be wrong! ANYWAYZ... the service was prompt. We ordered a few of their beers to clear the palate and I was not a huge fan of the beer I ordered but completely subjective. We ordered the Bavarian Pretzel Rolls to start and they were DELICIOUS. They were soft, chewy, accompanied by a white cheddar sauce, and I wish there were more of them. I am an aggressive follower of the "when in rome" adage and flet compelled to order The Horseshoe Sandwich which is FROM Springfield. In the event that you are unfamiliar, it's an open-faced sandwich on top of a thick slice of bread with your choice of meat, including the option of a veggie burger which was much appreciated, smothered in a "secret" cheese sauce, and topped with fries. This may take a few years off your life but it tastes amazing. We both took half of ours home and it made for delicious leftovers later. Our waitress tempted me with dessert and after her description of their Nutella Poppers (deep fried nutella-filled poppers rolled in powdered sugar and drizzled with homemade butterscotch) I couldn't NOT order this. Well went to Springfield with a friend. He met up with another new friend of his in regards that she is from Springfield and she suggested to try a horseshoe. It's some sort of a sandwich covered in cheese but they put fries over it. According to her it was okay because they were supposed to put the cheese over the fries and the bread and the meat of your choice. I had the lamb burger version of it. It was okay. She did recommend another one that made the best horseshoe but this was okay. I would come here for the Sunday brunch but never had it since she recommended that their Sunday brunch was the best. The root beer float was actually interestingly delicious. The fries which they use for me are the steak fries for the horseshoe we're also delicious but I rarely eat fries that off and so this was just a one time to treat myself especially trying to maintain my fitness. Ambience was nostalgic it use to be a funeral home. The service or the people serving was pretty amiable. All in all it was good I found it interesting that they use newspaper as their menu then an actual conventional traditional menu. Would come back and probably change my review of the three stars if I try something else and try the horseshoe sandwich elsewhere although I was full eating what I had and nothing went to waste. read more

We came at 5:00 on a Friday night. What sounded good from the menu was the brisket, but no brisket available. Asked about the chili, the server said it was kind of greasy and should be considered an ingredient, so we didn't get that either. We were going to get the blackberry cobbler, but they were out of that too. Surprised they were out of so much so early on a Friday evening. We ended up getting a salad and Carolina Gold Burger. We asked for a side of ranch dressing and got a small, plastic container. We were charged an extra $1 for it that wasn't disclosed ahead of time. Not a big deal, but mention it ahead of time. The food was fine, but underwhelming for the price. After paying by credit card, the receipt came back with an additional 3% charged for credit card fees. That charge wasn't previously disclosed either. I'm not one who appreciates hidden fees and charging more for the meal than the original bill. The space is nice, but the food itself, lack of communication and extra fees won't bring us back. read more

I was glad to find a brewery near the Lincoln Home NPS site. And it was literally just steps away. We were seated quickly and ordered a couple of beers. They were out of a few of their seasonal ones, so I got the Strawberry Blonde Ale to start, which was decent. I was very interested in the Springfield original "horseshoe" sandwich and pleasantly surprised it was also offered as a vegetarian dish. I have never had a horseshoe and other than a quick google of it, I really wasn't sure what to expect. My wife got the beef one. They come in two sizes, and I definitely recommend getting the smaller size (unless you just ran a half marathon or are a football lineman)! There was plenty of food and I couldn't even finish the whole thing. The patty for the vegetarian version was run of the mill (I feel like they should sub in a Beyond burger or something), but overall it was good. It comes smothered in cheese and the fries were great. I ended up getting another beer, the Tangerine Scheme which was my favorite of the two. Overall, I would recommend stopping by here if you're in the area. read more

Found this quaint little microbrewery/restaurant after checking out President Lincoln's house and it was OK. The entrance wasn't very inviting and the waitress was not very helpful and rude. The pretzel and cheese appetizer was good but our meals were kinda hit or miss. I tasted my wife's Horseshoe sandwich with corn beef and it was good other than the parts of the bread that were not smothered felt and tasted stale. I had the worst Italian Beef I've ever had, it had some type of brisket meat with no sweet peppers or pepperoncini's and it was so dry. Lastly, and I'll I'll add it when I get a chance, they charged me 3% for a credit card without any notice beforehand. Also it was on the bill before I decided on my form of payment so had I paid cash it was already there. I'm my opinion if you want to run a business in 2022 than credit cards needs to either be free to use or built into you menu prices. I recommend seeing what else is there before going here.
