Was here for a Boston Terrier meet-up one recent Sunday morning. Hardly make it to this part of town...in fact, I've never even been to this area called Playa Vista...didn't even know it existed! Our group (maybe 50+ BTs and their humans) set up camp in the smaller-side of the 2 parks. Very clean, well-maintained...lots of available parking on nearby streets. There's a grass section, as well as a wood chips section as well as a very small water fountain for the pups to cool off in. Hope to be back for another meet-up. As this was an exclusive BT-themed event, we only mingled with this group and not the general public. However, based on first impressions, it's one of the better dog parks out there. read more

It's Playa Vista's second dog park. Hardly ever anyone there so great if you just want some peace and quiet. No shade no trees that create shade. That only matters on hot sunny days when our dogs probably shouldn't be there anyway. The ground is covered in wood chips. Not great or even good for small dogs but large breed side doesn't care. This is the reason small dog side rarely used. The wood chips have tiny little fur ish sticky projections. They get in their feet and in our case rear or rump because my dog Jack Russel. He is running for two hours then scratching for months! Nice area horrible choice of ground covering. read more

We found this dog park on Yelp our go to app. Easy to find and great parking. We let Hazel out and she was excited to go see what the action was. There were about 15 dogs of various size in the big dog side. Hazel is 17 pounds but loves to play with the big dogs. The entrance has 2 nice vine covered pergolas and a nice double gate entrance. All the dogs come over to see what new dog is coming in, it's a real sniff festival. With all of that out of the way Hazel made her rounds around the perimeter and we headed towards the water station to empty and refill the provided stainless steel water bowls. All the dogs appreciate fresh water. Ten tennis balls were laying about and some dogs were fetching and some just sniffing, there are bags provided to clean up after your dog and there was no dodo that had not been cleaned up. All the dogs were friendly and the owners were friendly. That made for a nice time, there is a four inch layer of bark for the dogs to goof around on. There are no human bathrooms at this dog park. Maybe we just came on two bad days...there were two dogs that were unfriendly....one owner truly handled her dog while the other who was on her phone told me because her Pitt bull was getting aggressive...he's never bitten anyone...I'll never come here again...too risky ...the park down the way with hours and the small dog run is better... but as a dog park connoisseur (kind of kidding kind of not) we recommend Glen Alla as dog parents seem to be very attentive and dogs trained...further away we recommend Eagle rock dog park, Brea dog park and El Monte dog park. Eagle and Brea have nice owners and dogs...eagle rock is huge. El Monte has fun agility equipment... read more

I just moved to this area couple of weeks ago and I am very pleasantly surprised at the number of dog parks available within a mile from my new home. Oberrieder is among the best I have found. It's pretty large with shade and seating for the humans, and is covered with a thick layer of wood chips so my dog (who loves to play fetch) doesn't get completely filthy every time we go!! There's also a nice little fountain for thirsty doggies and poop bags are provided. Street parking usually is not a problem. I've already met some great people and doggos here. read more

Why haven't Ive been here before?! Its the perfect park close to home where my dog can get his exercise and social life at. Its equipped with a doggie drinking fountain, a plastic bag dispenser and it has 2 corrals (one for Big dogs & for small). The people I met there are locals, and are very friendly. So yeah! Do drop by sometime and say hi! ON THE DOWN SIDE... because we live in an imperfect world, you will find some dog crap on the floor cause someone was "too cool" and too F@$#ing lazy to pick up after their pet. Ticks at this park were a problem for out two mid-size (27 lb) dogs. The actual experience while at Oberrieder Dog Park was great, but we're still removing a multitude of ticks from our two young dogs. The dog park is adjacent Bluff Creek (as I think it's called) and the surrounding "wild" area seems conducive to wild animals (maybe rabbits) likely to host ticks. Also the dirt and wood chip surface can't be steam-cleaned like dog parks that have artificial turf. read more

We like this park, but like anywhere there can be irresponsible owners. Today a LARGE, BLACK, UN-NEUTERED DOG ATTACKED my smaller puppy. The dog bit my finger when I broke it up, I WAS BLEEDING, my pup was yelping for help, and the owner walked over and WAS TOTALLY NONCHALANT. He didn't ask if my dog was okay, didn't care that I was bleeding, and said "they're dogs" when I told him his dog had attacked mine. OWNER WAS AN AMERICAN MALE, about 5'9", SMALL BUILD, 40s, CLEAN CUT, wearing a plaid button down. One of the most negligent owners I have ever met. If I see this guy and his dog again, I'll post photos. I never raised my voice because I didn't want to upset the pup further, but I firmly told this clown that it was common decency to ask about the other dog when yours attacks, and the fact that he didn't care was shocking, and he had the gall to tell ME TO LEAVE. Part of me seriously regrets not ripping him a new one, but he was obviously insecure and defensive from frequent conflicts (he said I could try to sue him but I'd lose) so I doubt it would have helped. read more

**PLEASE READ***DOG ATTACK*** Our 9m Blue Heeler puppy was VICIOUSLY attacked at this park by a pit-bull today. Our puppy is currently in the ER. The owners did not work with us to give their information. The park is fine however its not guarded by security as the other park up the street is. It has sports facilities, picnic areas, and a walking path. But wait.....it's Oberrieder Park, minus the Dog. Meaning that the dog park is more than just a dog park, but it includes a dog park. Do I make myself clear as mud? I had to go to the Playa Vista printed material, the walking map, to solve the mystery. Oberrieder Park includes a dog park, a basketball court, a paddle tennis court, picnic tables with grills, and a beautiful walking path along a wetland with views of the bluffs under LMU. And yes there were plants & birds & rocks & things and the air was full of sound.....sweet gentle sounds of nature...... Cute park! If only my dogs were into playing with other dogs, we'd be coming here all the time. I've given my dogs several chances to play with their buddies...but they just stick with me the entire time, lol. The park is separated into two sections (big dogs and small dogs). It's kept pretty clean and most folks that come here are locals (like myself). If you're into walking your dogs for a long distance, continue walking towards Lincoln Blvd. There's a baseball field at the corner and a small path all around it. Best dog park ever. Well.. not really the best.. but it's good. Best dog park ever would be either the one in Redondo Beach or the Sepulveda Basin. The good thing about this dog park however, is that they have plastic poopie bags here. A nice fountain for your dog to drink at. A few benches for you to sit in. This one is less crowded than the creek one down the street. There was also bigger dogs in the small area, but they weren't aggressive. I appreciated the shade in this one but I wouldn't come here again. Dog owners where arguing with other dog owners and it just wasn't too pleasant given the small areas and people just being extra. The park is on the smaller side, but it was empty when I went on a weekday afternoon (1-2 other people around), so the pups had a lot of space to run around in. UPDATE: We went to the vet this morning. Kona has a one-inch bite wound on her neck, which the vet cleaned and treated and gave her antibiotics for 10 days. I didn't get any info from anyone at the dogpark, so if you were there that day and can get me in contact with the owner of the blue pitbull that attacked Kona, please let me know so I can send him my vet bill. Thanks in advance. It was our first time tonight at this dog park. Kona, my 6-month-old border collie/shepherd mix, was very excited to play with the other dogs. Everyone (both humans and canine) were very friendly. Ten minutes into playing with other dogs, a large pitbull came in (with his owner - an older man) and approached the group that Kona was playing with. He attacked her viciously and unprovokedly. I am traumatized at hearing my puppy scream for her life as this pitbull clamps down on her neck and shakes her like a rag. His owner quickly jumps on top of him as he tried to pry open his dog's mouth off my puppy. Everyone there jumped in to try and help the situation. What felt like an eternity later, the pitbull let go, and I rushed Kona to a corner to check her over. At first I didn't see anything; Kona was just shaken up. After everyone has calmed down and the guy and his pitbull left the park, I finally see the blood seeping from her neck from a large, deep bite. I have cleaned her up and she seems to be in good spirits. We're going to the vet first thing tomorrow for stitches. I liked the dogpark -- it was clean and had lots of space to run around. Unfortunately, this is just one really bad incident. It certainly wasn't a good way to welcome a new puppy to the park. read more

The wood chips are wearing down in the middle so Reese and I braved it this weekend. But, here is one thing I don't understand - the dog owners who feel the need to instruct others or discipline other dogs. I agree that having kids run around with the dogs isn't the smartest thing in a small dog park. But, one kid was playing with his dog when some lady yelled at the dog to stop. She mistakenly thought the dog was harassing the boy. A few minutes later, she tried to instruct a young couple on how to extract a piece of wood from a puppy's mouth (the puppy was chewing on the bark). Is this person the Dog Whisperer's mom? Then, she told the couple to try what she told them so she could watch and see they were doing it right. Luckily, they smiled politely and ignored her. The crazy part is I watched this women struggle with one of the dogs she brought (she claimed it wasn't hers) while on the leash arriving to the park. I hear her say something about not being good with other dogs around - so why are you coming to this dog park? Sure. I'm a crazy dog owner, but some of these people make me incensed. My dog is a rescue and she has her issues. She started barking at this poor guy who was minding his own business. He ignored her as I scolded her. Great. What a great dog park! It's not huge but it's also not tiny. I have a dog that's about 20 lbs. so the size of this park was perfect for him! There's a side for small dogs (under 25 lbs.) and a side for large dogs and both are filled with wood chips, not grass. All of the owners here are very responsible. They watch over their dogs, play with them, give them water from the fountain when needed. It's really nice. I didn't feel nervous or worried with my dog running around with the other animals. My dog doesn't really play and is more attracted to people than other animals, but he was running around with the other dogs for a bit which was awesome! There's three benches and plenty of trees to keep you shaded. There's no parking lot but there's plenty of space on the street. I pulled up and found a spot right away and there were plenty of other open spots as well. If you've been looking for a park to take your furry friend, definitely try this one out! read more

I've been coming here for quite some time now and I must say I have 0 complaints most of the owners that come through here are very nice and their dogs are very obedient if they aren't the owners know how to keep them calm and respectful towards other dogs. I have not had any problems so far especially since I have a pitbull. So I give this park 5 stars :) UPDATE: I dropped the stars down one for the "owner" wow. For an owner you sure know how to hold yourself up high. Not. I used to come here for a year, then the owner has the nerve to come at my fiance, our dog, and I with such language. Lady.. I have been to this park a handful of times and normally have a good experience. There are a lot of tennis balls for my dog to run and fetch. **WARNING** The last two times I have gone there have been aggressive dogs there. Yesterday 11/21/16 there was a terrible attack. A very large pitbull (and I have nothing against pitbulls--my dog is pitbull mix) and the owner couldn't even walk it on a leash under control. It fought with another dog before even entering the park and that's when we got our dog on the leash to leave along with another girl and her dog. Within 2 minutes of the dog being there it attacked a little puppy and wouldn't let it out of its mouth and resulted in a bloody mess including people jumping the fence to help and people getting bit. It was a scary site to say the least. This park can be very nice and fun when friendly dogs are there. But people should know to not bring their dogs there if they are mean and when they cannot even control them. read more

ATTENTION ALL: I witnessed the most horrific dog attack at this park last Sunday, February 19th 2012. I hope and pray that the dachsund that was brutally attacked by a large rottweiler lived and is doing alright. If the owner happens to read this review, please reach out to me to update me on your dog's condition- my prayers are with you and your family. This is less of a review of the park and more of a public service announcement to visitors of this park. If you own a dog that has even the slightest bit of dog (and human) aggression, please keep them far away from any dog park including this one. I am forever changed after witnessing such a heinous and horrifying incident. This attack could have happened to any one of our dogs at the park that day, unfortunately a much smaller dog fell victim. What began as a pleasant day at the dog park, quickly turned into a nightmare. Unfortunately, I don't know how as responsible dog owners and frequents of this park, we can assure that attacks like this won't happen again. After witnessing this incident, I feel indebted to the owner and to the lovely dogs of this park to assure that they won't also fall victim to another vicious dog. Awareness is all I can do at this point. So again... PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE keep your aggressive, non-socialized dog away from this dog park and others. And those who witness aggressive dogs at dog parks, please join me in telling their owners to leave and never return! The risk is not worth it! All it takes is the wrong combination of dogs and a seemingly nice dog with aggressive tendencies can flip and attack. I'd just like to state that I loved this park prior to this weekend. Great park, great dogs, great people. My dog used to have a ball here-- loved playing with every kind of dog. However, I'm now terrified of taking my dog to this park after last weekend. Oberrieder Dog Park has become a weekly staple for me and my pup. It's close by, convenient in terms of parking, and spacious! Located near apartments and shops in Playa Vista, the park has two areas, one for small dogs (under 25 lbs) and one for larger dogs. The ground is covered with wood chips, which I find is much easier clean-up than the dirt and grass covered parks I've been to. At any given time, there are at least a handful of dogs. I've never had to worry about unruly dogs (or owners!). There is a fountain for your pets to drink water, and a few clean garbages that are always stocked with poop bags. Highly recommend this spot for you and your pet to enjoy the sunshine and socialize! read more

B had a blast here all while getting completely filthy. There is no grass--just some scant wood chips and a lot of dirt. It is still in a gorgeous setting that makes you feel like you are far away from the city. There seems to be a nice trail that runs behind the dog park area which could be fun for some on-leash adventures. There were plenty of friendly dog owners there and B made a lot of doggy friends. We both came home well socialized, dirty and happy! Oh, and I love the doggy water fountains they have there! read more

What can I say... If my dog loves it, then I love it. Even though: -The place is filled with wood chips and dirt with no grass; you will end up wearing the dust if you are lucky enough to have a ball of fur tumble into your lap. -Your dog will be absolutely completely freaking filthy by the end of his/her first minute. We usually wipe the dog down afterwards, to which the towels turn BLACK! -The wood chips makes it hard to see those ... treasures to pick up. We took our medium sized dog to the small dog side of the park. This was our first visit. Our regular dog park, The Culver City Bone Yard, was closed due a methane issue. This was certainly different from our regular park. The park itself for small dogs is quite small, roughly one third the size of the small dog size of the Bone yard. The ground cover is a combination of dark brown dirt and wood chips. There is a water fountain for the dogs near one end of the park and there are is also a poop bag dispenser near the front. To enter the park all dogs enter a common "ante room" and then they go to their respective sides. Pros: The park is shaded and the surrounding landscaping is extremely pleasant. There are picnic tables just outside the dog park so it's possible to have a really nice family outing at this park. The people seem friendly and understanding I know they are understanding because we managed to let all the dogs out of the small dog side of the park when we entered that side. We apologized and everyone was gracious and forgiving. No hard looks! If you are a Culver City resident the park is not too far away. Parking is ample Cons: It's small. The wood chips and dirt make it difficult to find your dog's poo. I was watching my dog and had to have another pair of eyes tell me where a secondary little pile had gotten to. The wood chips camouflage inconveniently. The water fountain is has a large shallow base which the dogs have to stand in to either drink from the base or drink from the fountain. This makes for a muddy wet dog. Additionally, the wood chips and other debris get tracked into the basin and your dog may be drinking dirty poo water if they don't drink from the running fountain itself. . The entrance: The ante room is shared by the big dog side and little dog side alike. This makes me uncomfortable. One has to watch carefully to make certain that a big dog isn't coming out or going in at the same time that you are. My dog is feisty on the leash and might issue a challenge to a larger dog and find himself in real trouble. The bone yard configuration of complete segregation of big and small dogs is a much more logical and comfortable organization. No toys: The CC Bone yard is filled with tennis balls for people to toss back and forth to their dogs. Both sides have them. This park was completely devoid of any balls. I am reluctant to bring a ball because I don't want to inspire any fights over the ball from home. However, I suppose with this park I could bring a package of tennis balls and lessen the possibility of a problem. Overall impression: I will return and it will certainly do in a pinch. The people are friendly and I just have to remember to bring wipes in the car or make certain that my dog walks a little bit in the grass before getting into the car. I will also have to be extra vigilant as we enter and leave the park due to the shared nature of the ante room area. Overall, this is a good park -- a little small for my taste, but beautiful and friendly. I'd recommend it but just be mindful of the water, wood chips, ante room and size issue. Kids I noted that people have noted that the park is not good for kids. That's really not accurate. It's more accurate to say that KIds are not good for the park. While we were there an unruly bunch of children came into the park with their dog and parents. As long as they were throwning the ball for their dog they were fine. However, the water fountain proved to be an attractive nuisance. They kept trying to give their poor dog a balth in the fountain. They put their feet over the water fountain and spirted water all over that end of the park. They had to be told to be gentle with other peoples dogs by the dog owners themselves. Luckily, most everyone had a pretty tolertant dog, but this was a dog park, not a kid park. I would say that kids are okay in the park. I have kids myself. However, they need to be told how to deal with strangers, strange dogs and to have some respect for the facility itself. So of course kids can come, but parents should monitor them to make certain that dogs and kids come out of the park in good shape. read more

I love this park! I'm trying to get my 2 little devil Maltese mixes to be more social and it's working out pretty well. I like having the separate parks for size. It's a nice area with mostly locals and if you come often enough you get to know the dogs there. My only complaint is that my 1 foot tall dogs get incredibly dirty so I only take them here when I'm planning to give them a bath anyways. I wish it was a grass park, but I'll take what I can get. I also keep them on monthly flea pills just in case cause fleas are not my friends & not welcome to infest my place again. I love watching the rich white women yell at their dogs like they are children. Dogs don't speak English so telling Buster "time out!" 5 times is pretty hilarious to me. read more

Bruce Lee & I arrived on this lovely Sunday Morning. Just me and my Man. How fast he dropped me when he saw all the dogs. That's love for ya, heartbreaking! I was super worried because the big dogs and little dogs were all mixed up. No one was following the 'little dogs to the left and big dogs to the right' rule. Bruce is used to playing with big dogs but I was worried that Big dogs weren't used to playing with my little pekingese. But it actually was a success! Bruce was able to be chased around as he loves so much and then also had the time to pee on everything in sight. The owners were great about watching their dogs when they got a little too rough. My only complaint is that the water for the dogs spurts like a fountain and not into a bowl like form. Bruce has no idea how to drink from this fountain. I think he was worried about getting his lovely white locks wet. It was a fun morning. read more

This is a great dog park! Just just a couple blocks away from a bunch of cute shops and restaurants to enjoy after your trip to the dog park. As per most dog parks there is an area for large dogs, and a separate area for small dogs. Unlike many dog parks, it actually has a lot of beautiful touches. When you enter you walk under a trellis covered with flowering vines. There are plenty of trees surrounding the park, and benches to relax on while your dog enjoys the park. One of my favorite features is the water fountain for the dogs. For some reason my dog refuses to drink out of the communal water bowls found and most dog parks, even if I refill it for her (so spoiled!) but she loved the fountain (as did most of the dogs). It does require a human to turn on the water (it's not on continuously) but it allows all the dogs to enjoy as much fresh cool water as they would like! read more

I'd give this park a better review if it wasn't for the recent flea infestation and some of the owners treating this public place like their own backyard. I learned when to avoid the busy times and the rude owners. Once I found a group of dogs and owners who played well together this place is great. Yes there is bark and dust so the dogs get dirty but the park is cleaned daily by a wonderful staff so you can actually sit down and not be disgusted. Also since it is so busy the owners have to pick up after their dogs because someone else notices what the dogs are doing and where. This was the only dog park I was using until my dog was so infested with fleas it was painful. After some strong medicine, washing and cleaning the home I am not going back. Oh, and when would mention this to other dog owners during walks they would comfirm. Our dog is better and is now on Program. read more

Review for the small dog park only. The small side is a lot smaller than the large dog side which I think is a bit unfair. Small dogs need to run too! The ground is full of mulch which my dog doesn't seem to like. He tries to avoid it but it's everywhere. We thought of trying out this park instead of Laurel Canyon since it was a really hot day. The park is near the ocean with plenty of shade and wind, so it was nice and breezy but not close enough to where you'll come in contact with a bunch of beach traffic on the weekends, which is a plus in my book. It's a hidden spot with plenty of parking. It's all wood chips so I would probably only take my dog here on the same day I plan to bathe him. Overall, the people are friendly and so are their dogs. It was funny because there is a walkway on the side, and a "people" park next to the dogpark. Some of the owners threw their dogs in the dogpark while they had their picnic right next to the fence. Not sure if that would normally bother me. I guess if they had aggressive dogs, then yes, but their dogs didn't seem to concentrate on playing since their owners were on the other side eating. Regardless, we would definitely return to this spot in the summer when it's hot! read more

This is a cool dog park. The people there are nice, nice view of the hill, it's fairly clean & there's usually some place to sit. Unfortunately my dog doesn't seem to agree, for what ever reason she never wants to play with the other dogs here. But if your dog isn't an elitist, the way mine seems to have become.
