Dinner during last night in Rome. We had passed this place a few times on the way in and out of our apartment. It listed a 'Mozzarella Bar', which sounded intriguing. We ended up not sampling the Mozz bar, but we did have a very tasty Fried Mozzarella appetizer. We also enjoyed their Focaccia with Tomatoes along with a nice bottle of San Giovese Riserva. For main dishes my daughter had her staple - Margherita Pizza, and the rest of us had pasta dishes. My wife had a very good Cacio e Pepe with Crusco pepper flakes on some thick noodles. My son had what he felt was a very solid Pasta Carbonara (2nd best he had in Rome, he said). I have the Tagliolini with Black Summer Truffle, which I felt was a bit "under truffled". I also had to add salt and pepper so I guess I had the worst dish of the four of us. So while I was a bit underwhelmed with my truffle dish, the rest of my party felt good about theirs, and the appetizers and wine were good. Service was just OK. We had to actively find wait staff to be seated and then I had to get up from the table to find someone to pay our bill. (It was late and they were closing up). We also learned that they are NOT open until 12 AM. In fact, their kitchen closes at 10PM (no one told us, that would have been nice to know). It's our first day exploring Rome and after a whole lot of walking it's time to eat! It was really, really tough trying to pick a place, but we just had to be random and stroll into the first spot we saw after deciding we needed food. Atmosphere/Appearance: I think there's parking on the street, but it's a Roman street, so... I don't really know. Lol. Cars were just everywhere they wanted to be. Once you walk in you're entered into the coffee shop section, but if you walk a little further you'll be in the dining room where you can talk to a host to be seated. We turned right and were sat outside in the beautiful late September Italian weather. If you were to continue walking before going outside you'd go into another dining room that wraps around and runs the entire length of the back of the restaurant. Service: Straightforward, nothing to complain nor write home about. Food: I kept it simple and went for a flatbread? Pizza? I'm not sure what to call it here. Lol. It had prosciutto and arugula on it. It was delicious with simple flavors. One thing I learned... you have to cut the pizza yourself! No matter, good thing we have a knife and a fork! Value: All prices are in €EUR. MY Prosciutto De Parma was €13.50. I think that's pretty decent for a lunch and it also included taxes. Word on the street is that you don't have to tip here so that certainly keeps things cheaper! In conclusion this place was pretty cool and has a lot to offer. Stop on by and give it a try. read more

Obica is a wonderful spot for an outdoor lunch in Rome! They have a large patio with lots of seating. At prime lunch time on a beautiful day it was not hard to snag a table. They have a variety of small and shareable meat / cheese / veggie options and you can basically make a DIY charcuterie. There are also lots of different pizzas / pastas / salads. When in Rome, do as the Romans do... eat cacio e pepe. And sure enough, the cacio e pepe was divine. Super creamy and cheesy and came with a generous portion of al dente spaghetti. We also got a mini meat and cheese board -- there was a decent showing of meat and veggies but after seeing only one tiny piece of cheese I decided to add an extra buffalo mozzarella ball. I love that you can order various cheese items a la carte, so this worked out perfectly. The mozz ball was also super fresh. All of this with a reasonably priced aperol spritz really made for a great experience. I'm only knocking off a star because service was very slow. This is a a great lunch option if you don't want anything too stuffy but also want to sit down and not grab and go. read more

We had a fantastic experience here! Service was warm and friendly. They speak English and are very welcoming. The wine was great and we ordered quite a few glasses. The menu is in Italian, but they make the effort to explain if you have any questions. We started with the burrata and an antipasti plate (although I can't remember what it is called on the menu). Both were excellent. My husband ordered the pasta and I ordered a pizza. Everything was very reasonably priced. I did not like the Aperol spritz. I think that is just my personal preference though, as it is very popular here. Unfortunately, they lose a star because my pizza was not good. Actually, it was pretty terrible. That was SO disappointing being that I was very excited to have pizza in Rome. Everything else on the menu was fantastic though. We would return, especially since it has been hit or miss on the customer service to us Americans here in Rome and they were so nice! But we would not order the pizza again. read more

Went twice: one night for appetizers and drinks. We enjoyed the mozzarella so we returned another night for a full dinner. Truly the most mediocre meal of a ten-day Italy trip. The Cacio e Pepe is served without, well, Pepe. They tried a not-well-flaked red pepper instead of the traditional black pepper. The result tasted exactly like Kraft white Mac&Cheese. Husband got the lasagne and that tasted like Chef Boyardee. I know how insulting this must sound. But we paid for our food and then went and ate at another restaurant. So tonight i decided to choose this placed because it was on our route to the spanish steps and towards our hotel... Tonight it was not busy. I ordered the handmade intense taste buffalo mozzarella. It came with olive oil and vinegar on the side in a bed of fresh spinach tomato and olives... The mozzarella is a little smaller than a tennis ball....Amazing!!! I also was undecided on which soup. But i couldnt turn down the crema di zucca. Which is pumpkin soup. It came with toasted croutons and 30 year aged shavings of parmeggiano reggiano on the side to add in yourself! There was a few gnats flying around which was very annoying! My cousin ordered the burger. Now i warned here outside the US don't order one, but she wanted to try it. Now they dont ask how you like it prepared. Italians like to bring the food to you how they like to have it prepared... Her burger was very medium. There was no bun it came with a small handfull of steak like fries some spinach tomato and olives on the side... Overall she did not eat her €18.50 burger. She asked if i wanted to try it i told her no overall she did not eat it. My experience with the food here was delicious. Word of advice dont order burgers in italy! read more

Let's set the stage, family on vacation, just got to Rome after 24 hours of traveling. Wandering around Rome after going to the Trevi fountain and didn't want to go to the many tourist spots right next to the fountain. We stumbled upon this spot and they made some space for us right away. We sat inside but moved outside as soon as a table was available. It was late and my family was ready to revolt with all the closed restaurants, lines and tourist traps. Keep in mind it's August and 20% of the restaurants are closed but there are still lots of tourists so places are busy. Service was very good, friendly and polite. We brought our 1 year old so the service is a big deal. We ordered four pizzas which turned out to be one too many but we enjoyed all of them! I had trouble getting pictures before the troops started in. Which leads me to the food! Now here's the deal with pizza, I make pretty darn good pizza so my expectations are high. The crust is traditional thin crust with a corn meal base, it was good but a little under done in the center in all four pizzas which makes for soggy spots. To be fair it was good so no real complaints. Otherwise it was light and crispy as it should be. They also had an option for whole wheat, not many places do that. Now the cheese, as many have noted the mozzarella was excellent and went well with the prosciutto. The pesto olive pizza was my favorite! It's hard to miss with that combination really. It's also hard to communicate the difference when you use fresh and good quality ingredients and when you don't. This place does and the result shows. The red sauce was traditional and while not bad didn't standout, the only miss on the meal for me. The chianti we chose also wasn't bad but also wasn't anything I would ask for again. So over all a good find, I would recommend any of the pizzas with the pesto as my top choice and certainly would eat there again! read more

My husband and I were looking for a good bite with truffles post shopping. Obica is aesthetically pleasing. The mozzarella de buffalo was good, But lets stop there. We asked for bread they recommended focaccia because it was fresh. It was not, it was semi stale and kind of hard. We ordered the burger added truffle in olive oil and cacio e pepe. I asked for the burger medium well. The burger was dry and extremely over cooked. The toppings, meh and the burrata was not anything to write home about. My husbands cacio e pepe, essentially pasta with cream, but flavorless, unless you count salty as a flavor. A basic extremely common dish was not even well prepared. To top off all of this. We arrived at 7:30 it did take about 20 minutes for someone to take our order but they got our water right away and they did get a bunch of tables right when we arrived. We got appetizers within 10 minutes. They did drop a piece of focaccia, just said oh no and walked off, didn't replace it just let us go with less food. At about 8:40 we flagged down another server. We had not talked to anyone in over 40 mins. Told them we still had not received our food, they said "yes the burger, its coming". 18 more mins pass. I went in to ask about our food again to our original server. I said it has been 1 hour. He was shocked we hadn't received it, and said he would then check on it. After an hour of waiting we received mediocre food. Overall. Do not bother. They never apologized or even tried to rectify the situation. Save yourself the trouble, don't go. read more

The mozzarella alone earns this place 5 stars. Whatever you do, you MUST order one or two of the fresh mozzarella offerings. We tried the smoky and intense flavor versions as an appetizer, and both were jaw-droppingly good! The pizza here was phenomenal as well. As were the mixed drinks. I have only had morning coffee here, or as Italians call it a prima colazione, which consists of a cappuccino and sometimes a cornetto. They always get every coffee you order perfectly poured and spot on strength, but then again you're in Italy so no surprise there right?! The cornettos and pastries are quite good try the apricot filled one or the mini muffins are decadent! The chocolate one is filled with nutella!! If that is not perfect in your book then I don't know what is! The girls that work the counter are really friendly and if you become a regular they will even learn your order and have it ready for you when you get there! They also have a small selection of ready snacks like sandwiches and wraps , they are not the best around s but they aren't bad either. We waited another 10 min and still no water or acknowledgement. We decided to leave. The host started yelling at us in Italian and started calling us stupid Americans. This place is known for their mozzarella and burrata cheeses and it would be an absolute shame if you passed those by when eating here. I have yet to find a more refreshing cheese in Italy. Their mozzarella pizza is incredible and will have you asking them to fire up another one in no time. Since at this point you're already indulging, have the Tiramisu. Went to dinner at this restaurant on our last night in Rome. Service was mediocre. Food was Nothing special. They were not very nice to American tourist eating in their establishment. Weather was very bad, lots of rain. Asked for assistance, to please call a taxi for us. Was told impossible for taxi to come. Nothing they can do. We started walking in the pouring rain at 11:00 pm. We stumbled across this cool bar while roaming the streets of Rome (ha!) Cool vibe, great deep house music, nice dark ambiance. We stuck to the basics here. It's a mozzarella bar, so we went with the mozzarella tasting (4 ways), 3 dipping sauces (pesto, olive and sundried tomato). We also had the flatbread. BY FAR THE BEST mozzarella I have ever had!!! The pesto sauce, wow - just wow. There is something about the basil in Rome that you will not find elsewhere. The fragrance and flavor are like none I have ever tried before. I came to this place in Rome. Very disappointed in the burger. I was told not to order burgers in Italy Because it's nothing like an American burger and I guess they were right. They didn't ask how I wanted it cooked and it had a weird taste that's hard to describe. The roasted potatoes were good and the foccia bread is good, and the ambiance is lovely. There was also a lot of gnats around our table that was really annoying. So overall a little disappointing for me. We stumbled upon Obika as we were walking the streets of the historic centre. It had a nice patio and was pretty empty so we sat down. I'm happy we did because the pizza we ordered was outstanding! I had the margherita. The tomato sauce was so flavorful, the thin crust was just crunchy enough, and the mozzarella was fresh, slightly melted, with a good amount of chewiness. I wanted to sample some of their mozzarella plates (it being a mozzarella bar) but was bursting at the seams after my pizza. Portions are bigger than I could handle, I ended up splitting a pizza with my mom and we had two slices left over. Would definitely go back or visit their other worldwide locations! read more

Come here for the mozzarella and pizza. If you want burgers, go elsewhere for that. You don't fly all the way to Rome to eat burgers. I had charcuterie (cured meat and cheese) and loved every part of it. The creamy mozzarella was simple but strong in taste of milk. The meats were pungent and packed with different shades of smoky-ness. Service-wise in Rome (not just Obica) : Italian restaurants usually don't have the best reputation when it comes to service. I find this true for myself. They forget orders, take forever to get the dishes to the table, knock your belongings off, etc. So don't have high expectations with your waiters/waitresses. read more
