Definitely a tourist friendly place. Loved their service and atmosphere. They were able to accommodate us ( we were party of 12).

Obviously going into it you know that this is going to be a somewhat of a tourist trap, given that it's so close to the coliseum. When we first got there, they seated us fairly quickly. However, it took a while for us to get the menus. Then waited quite a while for us to get service. We had to weigh them down to get service and even then definitely met with big attitude. I obviously get that you think we won't be returned customers as tourists, but that doesn't mean we won't be back and it also means we won't be telling all of our friends who that we don't recommend here. I know I'm spoiled because I was raised in Japanese culture and the hospitality of Japan, but always a stark reminder as I travel throughout the world many places do not even come close. After an extensive travel day leaving Cisternino and returning our rental car in Bari and taking the metro to the main train station, we took the train from Bari to Rome. Unbeknownst to us, there was a 1 1/2 hour bus situation involved in the trek that our ticket did not explain. Needless to say we arrived in Rome tired and hungry, and then got lost while trying to find our flat a couple of times (thanks google maps) and finally took a taxi. After finding a grocery nearby, we got some wine and a bit of vodka and drowned our sadness. The rest of the evening was a bit of a blur, but what stood out was the great food, excellent service, and friendliness of the staff. It was so good. We'll be going back tonight to verify that our experience was not clouded by the copious alcohol indulgence. Visit number 2, even better than number 1. Our server recognized us right away as we walked in which is both good and bad lol. The place is nicely appointed, the staff is attentive and friendly, and the food is top shelf! Neighborhood place that always looked busy so decided to try it. The waiters were excellent (mostly Asian) who were hardworking and hustling to help a restaurant full of customers. The atmosphere was nice too. The bad....food is BELOW AVERAGE even by my unrefined palate. We got a pasta amatricana...waaaay too salty where we almost wanted to send it back. We also got three pizzas including margherita, diavola...the pizzas were paper thin....literally like flatbread in the US. Impossible to even pick up properly. The sauce and toppings were very average and looked store bought versus home made. The worst....Copretto or service tax is illegal in Rome but not in this restaurant apparently! 2 euros per person. Also the menu mentions it'll be waived if your bill exceeds 20 euros. When we noticed it on our bill, asked the manager and he tried to quickly make up a story that it's 20 euros per person not the table. That's not what the menu says. Crooked and unethical! Throughout our trip in Italy, we always met kind, charming and helpful people except this restaurant manager, who's probably the worst person we met in 2 weeks! We went to this restaurant on a recommendation as well as other reviews. In arrival, it looked promising because there was a line forming out the door. The host was very friendly and helpful and sat us at a table quickly. Our server was very attentive and made some recommendations as to what to try. He was talking about the fresh salmon that they just got from the fish market which sounded like a good choice, even though I was skeptical because salmon is an easy fish to ruin. Anyway, I ordered the salmon, my daughter ordered spaghetti cabonara, my son ordered fettuccine bolognese and my husband ordered a filet. Lia, who eats the spaghetti cabonara quite often from other restaurants in Rome, said her dish was very good and flavorful and the pasta was perfectly cooked. The fettuccini bolognese I was told was also tasty with perfectly cooked noodles. The filet I was told was a really good price for the size and the cut and it was surprisingly good. My salmon, on the other hand, was not as good as everyone else's dish. Like I said, salmon is kind of an easy fish to ruin and while it wasn't totally inedible, I have definitely had better cooked pieces of salmon. I was disappointed because I really wanted to experience the flavor of the freshly caught fish but because it was overcooked, I did not get to experience that. In all, 3 out of 4 dishes were amazing and the staff was amazing so if I come back, I'll just order something else instead! read more

Amazing dinner experience. We were walking by and my husband pointed this place out, funny enough I had it saved as potential places on Yelp. The moment we walked in, Manuel greeted and sat us. You felt like family from the get go. He told us his favorites and we ordered them. The amatriciana, the steak with Gorgonzola (omg this was amazing), and we added a caprese. I will dream about the steak and Gorgonzola for years to come. The Amatriciana was great, a nice light acid to cut through the cheese from the steak. We ended with a strawberry tarte as he suggested. My 14-year old son and I walked into this restaurant by chance. We stood in line for about 20 minutes until it was our turn. I mention this because a few 2-person parties ran out of patience and left, but to me it is the same as putting your name on a wait list and waiting your turn. Mie was our waitress. She smiled the entire time, and was very friendly and engaging, which I appreciated tremendously. She made food recommendations and even walked my son to the dessert pantry and told him which desserts are the best. As for the food, my son had the classic lasagna and he said it was the best he had during our stay in Rome. I had the fettuccini with bolognese and together we split the scallopini with lemon. We had the pleasure of dining here twice during our stay in Rome as it was on the same street as our Airbnb. Both times it was quite busy but the wait time was manageable....about 10-15 minutes for the weekend give or take. Ambiance was a rustic, cozy Italian which evidently was perfect as it matched the cuisine. Highlights here include their pizzas - both the Margarita and the Mushroom we tried were 5-star picks. We loved the super thin crust and ultra-fresh ingredients! We actually ordered this as an appetizer since we all couldn't decide between pizza or pasta both times. Why decide when you can have both? Their seafood salad was decent too; Nice helping of seafood trumped only by one other local restaurant we visited. For entrees, I've had the pleasure of digging into their Frutti de Mare spaghetti as well as Lobster pasta. Both were very flavorful dishes. I'm not quite sure what type of pasta was served with the lobster entree but it was a thinner version of spaghetti but not as thin as angel hair. I should also mention that if you're used to a U.S. sized lobster (1+ lbs), you may be a bit disappointed because they do come considerably smaller around these parts. Nonetheless, prices are affordable and it aligns with what you get. The frutti de mare came with a nice assortment of bountiful fresh seafood in a delicate aromatic sauce. One cannot complain! I tried slice of pizza and I ate the white fish for my main dish: the Pizza was a "5" and fish was fresh, tasty and definitely a 5 star also. This is as authentic as you want in Rome. It is very close to Rome's Opera house (8 minutes walk) and it was super busy with the locals in the area waiting to get table and eat there. After the went in, we were next yet the host told us to keep waiting while he let 5 groups of 5 people go in. We kept waiting, host comes out and in a mocking way, they said they'll us in soon and he can give us pillows while we wait. These dude was just awful, he had table for us but he just chose to keep us waiting outside. There are so many good restaurants in Roma, and this is, undoubtedly, a good one. It splits the tables across two sides of the street, so you dine outside. It has the normal Aperol Spritz available (which is hard to muck up), and the staff are friendly and much in evidence, so it is easy to get their attention. So, the food? We started with melon and prosciutto. The melon hunks were too big, but otherwise the dish is a winner. It's hard to go wrong here. For the main course, I had a pizza diavola- a standard Margherita pizza with slices of spicy salami. This was really good. They know how to make good Roman pizza here. For dessert, I had a ricotta and chocolate cake - much softer than expected and drowned in chocolate sauce. For our pasta dishes, we ordered the Rigatoni Amatriciana and the Cacio e Pepe. The pasta was cooked to perfection. The ambience is very lively and they were accommodating some large groups. We were lucky to only have a short wait even though we didn't have reservations. I would recommend eating an "early" dinner at 7pm if you didn't make reservations. The bruschetta was soggy, and the mozzarella in our caprese did not taste fresh. I was happy with my cannelloni with spinach and ricotta, but my boyfriend's pizza left something to be desired. A wonderful trattoria within 7 mins walking distance from the Colosseum. This was recommended to us by our host for being a great locals place and not a tourist trap. We came here on a Monday night with no reservations about there was a short wait. The ambiance was homey and welcoming. The servers spoke great English and there was an English menu. If you come def get their pizzas, as they are known for having lighter flavored pizzas compared to some of the heavier pizzerias. The crust was paper thin and crispy, and the size was the pizza was shareable if you wanted to get some other small dishes.
