The nurse assigned to us was cold, difficult to understand, and provided very little communication or clear instruction throughout the visit. After tests were performed, we were left waiting in the hallway with little to no updates. Staff would often walk away without answering questions or explaining what was happening next. The lack of communication was so poor that we found ourselves having to ask other staff members for information. We were even close to leaving before receiving discharge paperwork because no one followed up with us. This was especially disappointing because my wife and I had just found out that we're expecting a baby, and what should have been an important and emotional experience was overshadowed by unprofessional attitudes, racism as we are Hispanic American veterans and poor patient care. We understand that emergency departments can be busy, but basic communication, compassion, and professionalism should never be overlooked. Especially when there are 2 patients not a fully stocked ER. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and works to improve the patient experience for future families.

The staff was great and super friendly. From the registration desk to the nurses who prepared me for the procedure, to the cath lab nurses and technicians. I was extremely comfortable and felt safe in the hands of these professionals. Thank you Dr. Heizer and all the Obici staff who strived to provide the best patient care and experience. It's greatly appreciated. Thank you again!

Refused to give me an MRI, and only reason I ended up getting an MRI was because while they were attempting to kick me out, my back spasmed so hard I was basically convulsing. Then when the nurses and doctors transferred over to the next shift, they gave an incorrect turnover of information and wrote wrong information in my chart that I was able to walk with a walker which was not true. It took 4 people to get me upright and only when I was on morphine was i able to take 2 very small steps and the pain jolted making me sit back down. I could bear no weight at all at that time. They clearly only cared about whatever metrics are involved with duration of service in the ER. And only care to give an MRI when i coordinated a transfer to the VA emergency room so they would give an MRI. I laid in the cold on concrete for 30 mins because my back spasms were so intense i could not even breathe which is why I ended up in the ER. Now at home I have been through the worst pains and have 3 people constantly around to help me use the bathroom and get up and down. The doctor said and i quote "I cant keep you here, its JUST a herniated disc" what she was not understanding is the herniated disc was causing pain everywhere in a 2 ft diameter, and sending me into practically convulsions every-time my back was triggered. I had and still have no strength in my lower back or any of the surrounding muscles. I am literally helpless and pitiful. And NEVER ask for help for anything. I have no choice whatsoever. And what baffles me is the fact that they were talking to me like i WANTED to stay there! Who WANTS to be in the ER. This isnt even all my complaints! They nurse or helpers that came in basically accusing me of lying about walking... when i cannot even sit-up... all because the "chart says you walked fine with a walker" which was a TOTAL lie and the way he insinuated that my whole family was lying... was just ridiculous! Never in my life have a witnessed such ridiculousness.

I couldn't ask for better care of a loved one. Because of my previous experience (below) I can't give the hospital 5 stars but the excellence in care he's getting now definitely requires an upgrade from my original 1 star. I would say the nurses in S. Medical at the Obici Hospital were overworked & overwhelmed but they'd have to get off their phones and attend to patients first. I've been in understaffed hospitals before but have never seen a hospital with such lax care and humanity. I was with a patient for over five hours and a nurse came to check in and take vitals once. He needed help with going to the bathroom and their response was he can wait until we are ready. Yes, a few nurses actually said that before turning back to their phones.

I have to say that this is one of the nicer hospitals I've ever been in. They took great care of my dad on every level, from ER to the Cath Lab. The Nurses were extremely attentive to his needs and were very welcoming even when he had a case of the grumpies. I spoke with the floor manager before we left to tell her how phenomenal everyone was. Annnd, by far the best cafeteria food! The little old lady down there made the best sandwiches. Homemade oil and vinegar - she was proud of it and it made the Sammie. They also have a wood fire pizza oven! Crazy! Anyway - overall great experience all around.

Once I passed the background check, I was given a parking pass valid for the next few days. I parked in the parking garage as instructed by my nieces husband. I got turned around the first time, and it took a little extra time to find the maternity ward. But the next time it was easier and I never got lost again lol. On one of my visits, I walked through the oldest structure on campus which was the original hospital built in 1827. This is the oldest military hospital in the US. It still had the original stone exterior (outsise of original hospital) which had been closed in with hallways surrounding it. I checked out some cool paintings throughout the hospital. I learned a lot of history by reading the captions of the paintings. This biulding was turned into an administrative building. The campus was huge! And very pretty as it sits on the bank of the Chesapeake Bay. There was lots of green space which was beautiful.

On June 1, 2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m., I overheard a conversation involving a female nurse,…read morea male nurse, and MORRISONPONCE, DAPHNE PILAR, MD, regarding a male patient. The discussion appeared to involve the patient's private medical information and was conducted in a manner that sounded more like gossip than a legitimate clinical discussion. Before the physician became involved in the conversation, the female and male nurses referred to the patient by name and appeared to access or review his medical chart while discussing him. During the conversation, they discussed details of his medical condition, treatment history, and other information that appeared to come directly from his medical record. The female nurse stated that the patient had arrived at the hospital earlier that morning, between approximately 9:00 and 10:00 a.m., because antibiotics previously prescribed by Sentara Hospital were not improving his strep throat. She further stated that the patient had remained in the waiting room for approximately seven hours and discussed delays related to his testing and/or retesting for strep throat. The nurse also mocked the patient for crying and becoming emotional while seeking care for his worsening condition. The tone of the discussion appeared dismissive and disrespectful toward the patient and his medical concerns. Additionally, the female nurse stated that she had not documented everything that had been discussed or communicated regarding the patient's condition in his medical chart. The statement was made in the context of discussing the patient's care and raised concerns about whether relevant information had been omitted from the medical record. The conversation further suggested that concerns raised by the patient may not have been fully reflected in the chart, potentially affecting the evaluation and timeliness of his care. The fact that the patient was identified by name, that his chart appeared to be accessed and discussed outside the context of direct patient care, and that multiple healthcare professionals participated in the conversation raises serious concerns regarding patient confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with healthcare privacy standards. The statements regarding prolonged waiting times, delayed testing, and incomplete documentation also raise concerns about the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of the care provided.
