1st experience with Dr. Kelly Parsons was not good. Definitely will be looking elsewhere for another Dr.

I visited Obici's main building today and I was able to park close to the entrance. YES!!!!…read moreThe receptionist helped us find our way to the doctor's office. The interior has been UPgraded in a major way. It looks like a different, star trek type of place. I was shocked at the sleek lines and new flow patterns. Very nice and accommodating for those with mobility and visual disabilities. TEN plus for the signage updates and seating! I got in and out rather quickly. I achieved my goal and leaving extremely pleased with myself and Obici Hospital.

From the check-in at the ER desk to the ER staff, to the admission floor right below ICU, my life was in their hands and they did not let me down! A couple of honorable mentions Caitlin my ER nurse is very professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and tentative. Thank you for your warm hands and caring heart while you attended to my needs during this very scary moment. Jessica "Army Strong", was my day nurse when I was admitted to the hospital. She explained every procedure and helped me with my concerns. In a freezing hospital room Jessica never denied me a warm blanket ( I'm up to seven). She was gentle and very apologetic when drawing blood and taking vitals. I could not have had a better nurse looking out for me... Until I met my night nurse Melody! Words can not describe her wisdom as a nurse. In fact, if her ID did not say nurse you would swear she was an MD! Melody's discernment was unreal, her ability to anticipate your needs was uncanny. Her attention to detail was unbelievable. The care she provided, and her ability to articulate what you are experiencing was so comforting. I never wrote a review on a hospital but when you have staff members like nurse Melody that show you she genuinely cares you must leave a review! There is so much that I can say positively about Nurse Melody but this review would be way too long. But I must mention how the other nurse staff has expressed the same sentiment. Nurse Melody called Nurse Jessica after her shift was over and checked in on me "during her personal time at home!" That is the kind of medical professionals you only see on T.V. (Gray Anatomy) I am feeling better and am very thankful for the medical staff here at Obici. I truly believe God orchestrated this whole encounter for my good.

I couldn't ask for better care of a loved one. Because of my previous experience (below) I can't give the hospital 5 stars but the excellence in care he's getting now definitely requires an upgrade from my original 1 star. I would say the nurses in S. Medical at the Obici Hospital were overworked & overwhelmed but they'd have to get off their phones and attend to patients first. I've been in understaffed hospitals before but have never seen a hospital with such lax care and humanity. I was with a patient for over five hours and a nurse came to check in and take vitals once. He needed help with going to the bathroom and their response was he can wait until we are ready. Yes, a few nurses actually said that before turning back to their phones.

I have to say that this is one of the nicer hospitals I've ever been in. They took great care of my dad on every level, from ER to the Cath Lab. The Nurses were extremely attentive to his needs and were very welcoming even when he had a case of the grumpies. I spoke with the floor manager before we left to tell her how phenomenal everyone was. Annnd, by far the best cafeteria food! The little old lady down there made the best sandwiches. Homemade oil and vinegar - she was proud of it and it made the Sammie. They also have a wood fire pizza oven! Crazy! Anyway - overall great experience all around.

The staff was great and super friendly. From the registration desk to the nurses who prepared me for the procedure, to the cath lab nurses and technicians. I was extremely comfortable and felt safe in the hands of these professionals. Thank you Dr. Heizer and all the Obici staff who strived to provide the best patient care and experience. It's greatly appreciated. Thank you again!

I am deeply disappointed with my experience at Sentara Hospital. Prior to my procedure, I expressed…read morethat I wanted to remain awake throughout the surgery. The staff recommended that I agree to light sedation on the consent forms "just in case" for my comfort. Because I was completing paperwork before entering the operating room and would not have the opportunity to change it later, I signed based on their recommendation. Once the procedure began, I was fully awake and clearly communicated that I wanted to remain awake for the entire procedure. At no point did I request any additional medication. Despite this, while I was not looking, medication for anxiety was administered through my IV without any warning or discussion. I only realized something had changed when I suddenly felt different and had to ask what had been given to me. As someone who was awake, alert, and capable of communicating throughout the procedure, I believe my verbal refusal of additional medication should have been respected. I did not provide consent at the time the medication was administered. Afterward, I contacted the hospital to file a grievance. I was told that because I had signed the consent form before the procedure, my verbal request during the procedure did not override the paperwork. I was even told that I should have had my verbal request to remain awake and receive no additional medication put in writing beforehand. My greatest concern is not the medication itself but the fact that my clearly communicated wishes while I was awake and able to make decisions were disregarded. Patients should feel confident that their autonomy and informed consent will be respected throughout their care, especially when they are conscious and able to communicate.
