Front desk staff and security were extremely friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Unfortunately, our experience changed completely once my wife and I were taken back to the ER. The nurse assigned to us was cold, difficult to understand, and provided very little communication or clear instruction throughout the visit. After tests were performed, we were left waiting in the hallway with little to no updates. Staff would often walk away without answering questions or explaining what was happening next. The lack of communication was so poor that we found ourselves having to ask other staff members for information. We were even close to leaving before receiving discharge paperwork because no one followed up with us. This was especially disappointing because my wife and I had just found out that we're expecting a baby, and what should have been an important and emotional experience was overshadowed by unprofessional attitudes,racism as we are Hispanic American veterans and poor patient care. We understand that emergency departments can be busy, but basic communication, compassion, and professionalism should never be overlooked. Especially when there are 2 patients not a fully stocked ER. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and works to improve the patient experience for future families. read more

Sentara Belle Harbour - Hospitals Near Me - Suffolk, Virginia

On June 10, 2026 Sentara Belle Harbour released a 82 year old man, with Alzheimers, who was disabled, unable to walk. He had no one, at home, who could care, for him. They put him, in a Non Emergency Medical Transportation(NEMT) van and sent him, to his empty home, where there was no one, to care, for him. The medical staff had been informed, that the man's wife is in the hospital, with life threatening pneumonia, on a ventilator, and that his kin were not available, or able, to give him the 24/7 care, that's necessary, for him, to survive. This is unconscionably cold, for a medical facility. This occurred, when the man was brought in, for an emergency urology treatment, and the hospital was fully informed, of his home status. This regard, for the man's health, is less, than one would give a poor puppy. Yes, I am upset, and greatly disappointed, with the lack of TLC, given an 82 year old, disabled, and helpless soul. You betcha I'm unhappy, and if this man's health has been jeopardized, Sentara Belle Harbour has blood on their hands. read more

Emergency (?) Care. If you feel sick enough to go to hospital, you will feel much worse after waiting 5 hours in the ER. Once diagnostics are run, expect to wait and wait for anyone in authority to "pop in" and address your clinical needs. Heaven help you if you are there during meal time. This is the WORST ER I have ever experienced. My mother arrived in an Ambulance (Thursday evening around 7-7:30pm-ish), vomiting, moaning in pain, sweating profusely, yet at the same time said she was freezing. You could literally see the goosebumps all over her. Her blood pressure was stupid high (190/170) or some ridiculous number. It was very very high. She enter through the back like all patients do when they arrive via Ambulance. They transfered her to a wheelchair guided her PASSED the ER beds and into the lobby and just left her there!! Mind you, she is vomiting, no shoes!, in her nightgown!, hair all sweaty and a complete mess!!! They didn't have the commpassion or decency to give her a bed of any kind (even though there were some available) or a warm blanket because she kept saying she was freezing (she didn't have a fever, so giving her a warm blanket would not have done any harm). She was made to wait in the lobby in front of God and everyone looking and feeling the way she did. I am just in shock when she was telling me she was just left in the lobby in the state she was in. I couldn't ride with her in the Ambulance because I had to go pick up my father. They have only one car and my mother and I were using it when all this started. I flew in (so I didn't have a car) to help take care of her because she has been sick and no one can figure out why. She's being tested and screened for cancer and her blood platelets have been severely low (30-35). The Ambulance knew this information as well as the ER staff. Anyways, she obviously couldn't keep anything down because she would just throw it back up. They didn't even give her any IV fluids or medicine that could have helped her be more comfortable. They did nothing!!! What they did do was publicly humiliate her! She felt so rejected and shamed on top of being in a vulnerable state, that she decided to suffer and go home instead of waiting (which she felt was going to be a long time because of how they just brushed her off)!!! I cannot believe that an ER would treat someone with such humiliation and callousness!! These are people that are supposed to be taking care of your wellbeing at your most vulnerable state, only to be treated with deliberate heartlessness. Animals are treated better at an ER Vet!! I am absolutely disgusted at the behavior this ER demonstrated towards my mother. It sickens me to know that these people are in charge of medical care. They should never be allowed to work with people. Ever! read more

A second great visit for my family. My boys (2 and 4) have had a cough for a couple of days now however one was sounding pretty barky, so I decided to take them in to make sure it wasn't anything more serious. We arrived around 06.15 and left around 07.45 The staff from the moment of entry with the security to the intake assistant and nurse back into the room with the nurse and doctor was absolutely delightful. Everyone was respectful of the fact that we were dealing with a 2 and 4 year old however we were also respectful with understanding that we were in a hospital and needed to use our inside voices and manners (it always takes all sides for things to run smooth!). The poor reviews from most reviewers absolutely mirrors our experience. It's pathetic. Here's a copy of my GOOGLE review...I hope it helps someone, anyone, make the right choice for emergency care, because care will likely not be found at this joint. "Just left there with my wife who was having chest pain. When we arrived there was 1 person in the waiting area ahead of us. We were checked in quickly and were told to sit in the front waiting area. An X-ray tech showed up after 15 minutes or so and took wife for X-rays. She returned within 10 minutes. 30 minutes later a nurse came and took her back for bloodwork, returning with her 5 minutes later. Nearly 2 hours later we departed after being told that they had no rooms available and may not have rooms available for hours(2-4-all day)...they were full. Given that my wife was having chest pain, I tried to tell the rude, dismissive and condescending nurse that they should have told us that when we first arrived as we would have driven over to Norfolk Sentara. She interrupted me multiple times telling me that ALL Emergency rooms were busy and went on to lie about having told us that when we first came in. I wonder how she knew that ALL Erooms were busy...do they all report to her? We didn't even see that nurse when we first came in...LIARS SUCK! Don't waste your time or risk your life with this pathetic establishment." BTW, the receiving lady was pretty nice...as was the X-ray tech. I have nothing good to say about anyone else there so I'll refrain...except for that rude, lying-azz nurse...she sucks! read more

Went in and waited about 5 minutes then called to check in. Back and waited about 5 more minutes. Got in the room. X ray tech came right in. Right after that Andy was my RN. He was so funny and sweet. Keep checking on me. Josh was the doctor. He was so and short and sweet but very helpful and nice and funny. Worst part was waiting for results. Had to sit in waiting room over 3 hrs with 13 yr old son having abdominal pain and vomiting while they took back at least 6 patients for lesser issues before us. 1 or 2 I could understand but not one that was itching and had no other symptoms and was walking around making loud phone calls. I recently moved& I was nervous about going here when I wasnt feeling well. I had the most calming& laid back experience. Its a more quiet& intimate emergency room if that could even be possible. My nurse (Jason) was amazing! My DR (Dr. Welch) was a rockstar! He contacted my specialty doctor which really meant alot because most ER doctors dont even bother when I mention it. He actually takes time to listen to your concerns& helps! The ladies at the front desk are as sweet as they can be! I love the staff here down to the staff in the lab department! I've been here for almost 4 hours with no service. The employees here just do not care about the patients a female patient passed out in the emergency room and the security officer was too busy watching tv to notify the nurse. If you need to be be treated right away please don't come here the staff is just rude when the young lady passed out they came out stood at the door and called her named like she could just walk to them then when you ask them how long the wait is for your loved one they look at you and mumble while waking away. The waiting room was nasty and dirty they didn't come out and disinfect after patients were throwing up everywhere never again will I return. And corporate will be hearing from me read more

I went in and had a fracture with my fibula, never saw a xray and nurse told me what I was being put in. Then doc finally came in and told me what i fractured then told me to wait a week before I went and saw someone and the doc office said I never heard thay before. Never will I return! Rude staff and very careless about your welfare. Went in for a severe sprain after falling on concrete. You would think they would give you ice and something to keep your foot elevated especially since I was there for several hours. I was in a lot of pain and I had to request something for pain, even still he only gave me a pill to take right away and nothing to help me for the next few days. The medicine is wearing off and I am starting to feel the pain again and I have nothing to help with the pain. Also, when the nurse was placing the air cast on my extremely swollen and tender ankle it hurt but she said she didn't do anything. So basically, she made feel as though I was crazy and shouldn't have felt any pain. read more

You never want to go to an ER unless you really need it....but I was having chest pain that wasn't going away so I went in here in the late evening. As soon as I said chest pain I was in a wheelchair, in a room, and hooked up to a ton of machines, blood drawn/iv put in, and didn't wait a second. Everyone was super pleasant, saying their name before telling me what they were doing, and they were calm which helped ease my nerves. It was so fast! Had a chest Xray and spoke with the PA on call at the time. He ran through what they were looking for, and came back to update me quickly. After 2 hours he felt it wasn't a heart attack but extended the offer for me to stay another 4-6 hours and then redo the bloodwork. However, nothing at that point indicated a heart attack and I opted to go home to sleep in my own bed. They offered some pain meds since apparently I had strained the muscle wall of the chest. I declined but they sent them home with me anyway and very specific instructions of when i needed to come back if not feeling better. My husband did the check in thing, but the payment coordinator came to the room. She was nice and even said if I couldn't pay all my co-pay at that time it was something we could work out. Felt no pressure in regards to that. Overall, this was a good experience in the midst of a scary situation. The staff was professional/calm, and worked well together. I felt in good care. And I was glad it turned out to be something minor. I wouldn't hesitate to come here again after such quick, great care. read more

I have real mixed emotions about this place. My doctors' offices are located here and I like my doctors very much. There is also an urgent care that I, unfortunately, had to use one time and they were excellent. Every lab and imaging technician I have encountered here is great and the hand specialist in the physical therapy department is exceptionally excellent. So what could possibly be the problem? The problem is the administrative staff. Oh my goodness! They spend way too much time socializing while making patients wait in a standing line. They have absolutely no regard for disabled patients. They really don't care if a person can stand in a line or not. When gathering information and registering patients, once again, the patient must stand. I was told they didn't have a chair for me to sit. They have now rearranged the seating area so that NO chairs are any where close to the registration counter causing disabled patients to drag themselves all the across the room and it's a very long room. First the admins say have a seat. Then they call your name to register and that means dragging all the way back to where you started. Then they say have a seat again. Back across the room I go. Eventually the technician comes out to get me and, once again, I must limp across that long room past the registration area. Are you kidding me? It is sooo painful. Additionally, when a person is getting any kind of imaging done they automatically tell them to come in fasting - nothing to eat after midnight. My appointment was at 3:00 pm. That's really a problem for a diabetic or someone with hypoglycemia! The first time I had a kidney ultrasound I asked the technician why fasting and was told the procedure did not require fasting. This time the scheduling person commented that Belle Harbour is the only Sentara facility to require fasting for a kidney ultrasound so I ignored the instruction. Once again I checked with the technician to be sure and, once again, I was told this procedure does not require fasting. So, why do the admins always say fasting? The only reasonable conclusion to be drawn is that it's just easier for the admins to tell everyone to fast. That way they don't have to actually think or pay attention to the proper test requirements. Clearly someone in management thinks it's more important to insure the comfort and ease of the office staff than the comfort and safety of the patient. When I protested to the admin staff I was told they were just follow instructions. Oh my goodness! Where have we heard that before? read more

I was sent to Sentara Belle Harbour in Suffolk, by Patient First, as I had been experiencing a severe bloody nose for a number of days and was told that Belle Harbour would be able to cauterize my nasal veins to stop this problem. This was not the case. They diagnosed my sinus infection by asking me if this is something I frequently get. Then the attending PA informed me that they refer patients to Norfolk Sentara for ENT issues. To get the bleeding to stop the PA shoved a "rhino rocket" up my nose to plug this issue, and then caused the second nostril to start bleeding. I returned home in severe pain. My entire face was in pain. Worse than this, blood started rushing down my throat 2.5 hours later. I was drowning in blood, and had to return and have these horrible "rockets" removed. The hemoraging stopped shortly after the removal of these horrible things. Meanwhile, I was given a script for an antibiotic which causes diarreah. I was told this was not an allergic reaction but a known side-effect. I then requested a different product 3 days later and was told I would need to come in and be rediagnosed, mind you, each visit is a 90.00 deductible becuz it's an emergency room and I had already spent 2 visits and 5 memorable hours there. This will not happen again. I also would not recommend this emergency room location to my enemies, much less family and friends. Extremely disappointing service and results. read more
