1 - Jose came out to quote grinding removal of the aging & damaged overlay on our home's exterior concrete. 2 - Out of 5 contractors who visited, he was the only one who measured carefully. His quote (after I followed up with him to remind him to send it) was attractive & the visit was pleasant. 3 - Work was scheduled for Friday 8:30AM. Jose called at 7:30AM to indicate that they wouldn't make it, & they rescheduled for Saturday. Weather concern--OK, not much advance notice, but it happens. 4 - Crew came Saturday, on time. They worked 1 very hard, very long day. a - The grinder vacuum systems were not functioning correctly; the big grinder was running on 1 out of 2 vacuums. The small finish grinder had no vacuum accommodation. As a result, there was a tremendous amount of dust generated. b - 2 of the 3 crew members did not wear protective gear, as they worked in a thick cloud of concrete dust. c - The crew did sweep up some dust, but much of the dust was cleaned up SoCal-style, with a gas-powered leaf blower, moving it off of the refinished concrete & into other areas of our home & our neighbors yards. d - When they finished, there was an extremely thick layer of dust on grass, soil, flowers, plants, house trim, wood chips, gravel, etc.--even blown into our home under door seals. e - Our family spent very much time cleaning up our home. f - Some of the waste left by the crew included: empty water bottle, a razor blade, cut-off part of a bottle used for handling a chemical (probably sealer?), & electrical wire cut-offs. 5 - I notified Jose of 4a-4f. No reply. 6 - 1 week later I noticed that, around our home where the concrete areas meet the house, the sealing caulk had been ground away or peeled away. a - I e-mailed Jose, asking for a recommendation on what product to use to repair our home. I did not ask for help--I wanted to give Jose a chance to offer as he saw fit. b - Jose e-mailed back right away, saying "I will call you tomorrow so we can help out on the joint caulking". c - 2 weeks later, after no call or help, we re-sealed all the caulk ourselves. It was a rainy spring--we needed our home's exterior caulk replaced. 7 - I e-mailed Jose to ask for reimbursement for our labor & cost to clean up & repair caulk after OC Concrete Stain had completed the job. 8 - Jose's response was to argue that they didn't damage the caulk. I sent him photos & that showed how the side of the grinding disk rubbed away against the home walls, damaging/removing caulk. 9 - No reply from Jose. All in all, the work done was decent. Our home looks better. Not great, but manual grinding off the overlay & then clear-sealing the exposed concrete can't be expected to look awesome. I'm OK with that & did not give any negative feedback on the quality of the concrete work performed. If you hire OC Concrete Stain, just be prepared to take extra extra measures to protect your home, & be prepared lest you need to put in some of your own labor and dollars to clean up & patch up after they have left. Wow! Where do I start? The concrete around my pool was a hot mess. It was over 45 years old and had numerous coats of a concrete overlay that was peeling up everywhere and looked horrible. For waaaay less than installing pavers, I now have fabulous looking stained and sealed concrete. What a pathetic experience. I asked for light grey, Jose suggested darker grey borders, sounded like a good idea. Pavers were stained dark grey, and the borders are black, can't walk on them when the sun is out. Jose said he'd come back and we could fix the problem, two weeks later, I give up! These guys were great! They were very competitively priced, they completed the work on time, were friendly and courteous and stood behind their work. We had our entire back patio and pool deck redone. At the end of the work it rained for three days straight. We notified Jose and he sent is crew back up to fix the patches caused by the rain with no questions. I must admit, I had three different companies bid for our project to polish our concrete slab. One bid was low, and the individual didn't have much experience. And since we had already spent a lot of money on our remodel, we didn't want to skimp on flooring. OC Concrete and Stain's bid was the highest of them all. The other company offered a decent price, but couldn't start for eight weeks. So I called OC Concrete and Stain and negotiated. They did so and matched the lower price. Best of all, they were available to work within 72 hours of signing the contract. The work was done quickly and the results were terrific. There are spots in our concrete slab which are uneven (we could tell when our contractor was placing our baseboards), but I assume this has much to do with the top layer of slab which needed to be sanded down. We scheduled a time to have the concrete in our 4 car garage stained. The arrival of the workers was confirmed the day before the work was to be done. It took us considerable time to get get the garage ready as we had lots of items stored on the floor. The crew did not arrive at 8 am as scheduled. At 8:15 my husband called Jose. He said let me check on "my crew" and get back to you. He did not call back, did not answer any more calls or texts, no one ever showed. OC Concrete just finished sealing our Spanish pavers and grouting three of our bathrooms. The owner Jose showed up on time and his team was clean, polite and worked full days. I love the concrete stain that Jose placed in two of our rooms. We had our carpets removed and the concrete on the floors stained. The price point of stained concrete was much more affordable than hardwood. The only reason I did not give a five rating is because I had to double and triple check their work. It took my husband and I over five years to pull the trigger on doing our floors. I had received a quote back then and filed it away. This past holiday season we found OC Concrete Stain and Jose came over, gave us a tour of what they do, ideas of what we could do and made his assessment. Since we were thinking of doing our garage along with our interior, Jose went ahead and said he would factor in a discount if we did both areas the same time. When I tried to get a second quote from the competitor they never sent it, even when I called again. We went with Jose at OC Concrete Stain. He answered evey email, every question and gave details of what needed to happen. What happened? We ACTUALLY love our garage floors more than anything. Crazy. Pretty awesome. We painted the walls and now making it our extended game room with a pool table, ping pong table and dart board....when our cars are not housed in there. Now the interior is amazing too. Even a young contractor was at our house for something else and saw the floors and said, "why would anyone put carpet over THESE beautiful floors?" Funny. He was a kid almost and clued him in that we had it done...very cool that he thought it was hip and cool looking. Now, what I should have done different and listen to my friends and husband. Take out the baseboards!!! Too much work for me, and poor Jose keeps getting calls from me to help with one thing or another. Take the stain too the wall without the baseboard, but Jose did what I asked. They have been great with responding even after the job. They have been busy and do their best in getting back with me. I called and spoke to Steve about getting an estimate to seal my pool deck. I was delighted to hear he could be out the next morning and we agreed upon a 9 am appointment. Well Steve shows up at 8:35 and I'm still asleep (worked late and was up until 2 am) and my wife is in the shower. Once I figured out that we missed him I called him right away. No answer. Tried calling again later in the day and again no answer. So I figure he's upset that we weren't available when he showed up early so he's ignoring my calls. I waited a week to let cooler heads prevail and called him back to set up another appointment. I got Steve on the line again and told him that we missed him the week prior and he said "yeah but the trucks were in the driveway". I explained the situation that he was 25 minutes early for our agreed upon time and we weren't ready for him. We set up another appointment. Guess what? He doesn't show up. Now I know he was upset with us for missing his first appointment. Oh we'll, his loss. We chose to go with someone else. Bad bad bad!!! I saw their van in HB/Fountain Valley Area last week and decide to call them. Appointment was made for Friday at 11:30am with Jose and no show. I called them and after excuses they reschedule for 5:30pm on friday. I called Jose at 5:00pm an he said he was on his way to my house....just a lie!! No show...waited until 6:30pm no show!!! We hired OC Stain to demo tile, carpet and remove glue. Subcontractors came out that did not even work for OC Stain, they almost left with out doing the bathroom, I had to ask them to come back in to complete the job after they were ready to leave, their work was disorganized, they did not have tools for the machine that pulls up the tile and their work was was sloppy. They seemed like they did not know what they were to do when they got to the house as well, additionally I had to make them cover the stair case with plastic so dust would not go upstairs. I called OC Stain and they don't pick up the call and don't return calls. I would not recommend this company to anyone, ever. The work is terrible. read more
