OUTSTANDING SERVICE!! I had sent messages to 8 different contractors from Yelp. They others were all over charging me and telling me that in order to fix my metal gate it would be a minimum of $180 to $250 and some told me they would need to bring out two people because the gate was heavy. Seriously? I am ableto move the gate around by myself. I ended up going with Michael Tucker because he was honest and very professional and stuck to the price that he quoted me. I sent all the other contractors the same pictures so they know what was happening with my metal gate. It was falling out of the retaining wall. Michael came out and help me fix the gate and now it is stronger than ever. I would highly recommend him for any work and he is highly experienced from home remodeling to construction work to landscaping. I own an old house (1956)....the equally old deck was dated and the fence surrounding it was falling apart, the whole thing was a mess but Mike Tucker and his very professional team have transformed the 'big mess' into a very cool area. It was a lot of work but they raised the deck making it level with the house. The trek flooring is up to date and beautiful, the double sided redwood fence makes a statement and the portico with the adjustable sail cloth provides shade when necessary or left open for maximum light. Everything is absolutely beautiful and I couldn't be happier. My neighbors are pleased to have something nice to look at other than the 'big mess'. Can't thank they enough! read more

There isn't a rating low enough for AJM construction. I contracted with Mike last year starting May 6th 2019 for a kitchen remodel. I should have gone onto Yelp originally, as I see it says "Fences, Gates, Masonry/Concrete. That should have been the red flag for me as it does not say Kitchen remodels. Mike had his Subcontractor Andy do most of the work. Day 1, demolition day.....pulling out cabinets, dragging out appliances and nothing was put on my wooden floor to protect them. I had to call Mike to tell him they needed to cover the floor. Andy couldn't put together a tinker toy if his life depended on it. Poor guy....it was just a job to him...did not take any pride in his work and Mike didn't care. As long as Mike got his money he didn't care. Mike never came to check on the job and only showed up 6 weeks after the demo day as my interior designer had a "come to Jesus" meeting with Mike as she had a punch list of things that need to be fixed. Andy and his assistants were slobs. They left trash in the front patio with their dirty empty styrofoam food containers and empty beverage cups. Disgusting. Tile and backsplash installation was installed incorrectly even after the interior decorator came over and had drawings for the tile guy but he still didn't get it even after having the drawings. But, that was a $1,000 mistake that I had to pay for. Appliance installation done by Andy. Range had no gas- all weekend I am trying to trouble shoot the problem...yup Andy forgot to turn on the gas valve. What sort of contractor leaves a job without checking to see if the appliance is hooked up?....Answer Andy. Dishwasher hooked by Andy.....I noticed water mark on back of new shiplap wall behind dishwasher. Called Mike and he said "I'll send Andy". I said no way. Mike came over and pulled out dishwasher. Dry as a bone. However, there was a water leak that was inside my new cabinet- I mean full of water....Andy did not tighten a connection properly. My under cabinet lighting per contract with Mike was never completed. Wiring was done by Andy, and when I finally had an electrician come to finish....This contractor could not believe Andy's work- he was perplexed and said - boy- He did not do you any favors. It was completely done incorrectly and poorly according to the Electrician. I could go on and on. If you're getting something simple like a fence or gate (simple projects) you're probably safer. But if your thinking about a major remodel that includes electrical, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, etc- don't use AJM. There are lots of contractors that take pride in their work and the employees or subcontractors they use. This job was way over AJM's ability. Buyer beware. Don't be stuck with a Pandemic contractor. You will be sorry. Economic loss, and you're literally sick with the quality of work. read more

We hired Mike to replace the concrete porch and steps in front of our house. After a year, there is significant cracking. Note: we have had other concrete work at our house by other contractor(s) prior to this work and it is still beautiful, so this is not a landslide / shifting house issue. I think they must have done a nice job on the fence, for the homeowner; but they left piles of dirt from fence post holes, concrete chunks, branches they had trimmed for the neighbors to clean up. I am a neighbor and didn't appreciate spending hours to clean this up so I could mow it, as I have in the past. read more

Mike has worked for us in the past and were very satisfied with the work. Mike's team was here timely, and completed the work as promised and on schedule. The last project (fencing around an 11,000 sft property) has stood the test of time over +10 years. This time we had Mike add some gates and replace a section (50 ft) that water from sprinklers damaged. A few drama's along the way with this last project, but Mike immediately made things right. The problem is when some contractors know you are volnurable and tired, and need help, they take advantage. I had variety of small jobs to get done around the house. Per our agreement he assured me it all will be done and gave me an estimate. I was fine with it. Every day, he would tell me the job is finished, I would go and see it isn't done. He would redo the job and something was always wrong with it. I had a good experience with Mike when he did our outdoor wall, but indoor small jobs, I could have done better. When inspector came for the house, he said we need two stoppers in the sinks that he already "supposed to have done" A lot of money down the drain and I will never use this vendor. Money earned like this is not good money. Not good. read more

Mike Tucker is like an old friend, so easy going and accessible that you feel as though you are his only customer. Whatever you do, do not use this company! I just got done with a 3 month nightmare that should've only been a 4 week project. I have never written a negative review, but feel it is necessary so others don't get burned. I would not say this without just cause, so I'll share with you everything we went through: -Block wall along back property line: the only part of project that went well -Gas line from meter to new fire pit: the trench collapsed once the landscapers placed the sod and landscaping requiring the landscapers to compact trench and replace sod. - Firepit: beautiful stone work, but built it 1' larger diameter (7'total diameter) than requested. This equated to an extra $1700 in cost for fireglass, larger burner, and filler. Gas line running into fire pit rusted prior to burner and fireglass being installed. Precast cap never fit correctly and they ended up cutting it up into 1' segments which takes away from the point of having precast cap-not smooth and round and ton of joints. While cutting the precast cap on the new flagstone pad, they ruined the finish on the flagstone (now stained with white concrete dust). - Concrete on side of driveway: did not grade as I asked creating a 8" step up from neighbors walkway, concrete splatter on side of house, did not create joints every 6' as code says. A simple tasks and the carelessness of the crew created a mess for me. - Flagstone pad: grout was cracking and stone loose one week after installation on a handful of pieces, did not advise on how to protect and maintain after installation, once they replaced loose stone they used different colored grout and looks hideous, after I sealed it the crew cut the precast cap on this stone and ruined the finish. Have powerwashed and sealed again and still ruined. They have no intention of fixing this problem even though it was there carelessness that created it. This was the end result of a multitude of variables: crew carelessness, bad work ethics of crew, not a high regard for customer satisfaction. The crew never fully cleaned up each day. Left their saws out and material laying wherever. They left concrete forms on for 2 weeks until I ended up pulling them off, left pile of dirt in driveway for a week after they were offsite, all excess material was left in middle of project with no intent on cleaning up which was in way of landscaper (who ended up picking up after them), never fully cleaned stonework after complete. Just a lack customer satisfaction displayed. The crew never showed initiative to try and complete project. It was critical they completed their portion so the landscaper could come in on a scheduled date. This date was delayed 10 days and I nearly lost the contract with the landscaper because he was scheduled to go on other projects. Even with the 10 day delay, AJM did not complete all of their tasks. There was no urgency displayed to stay somewhat on schedule. The crew would work 6 hours days and sometimes not show up at all with the claim they had to go "get material" nearly everyday. I told them if they worked full days we'd be on schedule. Truly pathetic work ethic and management. I asked the bosses to have them come on a Sat or Sunday and they could not make it happen, and even could not commit to have them coming on weekdays. I will admit, the managers were going through medical issues during this time so I was sympathetic to that. But looking back, the crew could've been more committed. Customer satisfaction was the worst part. Not once did they ask "are you satisfied". It was "it is what it is, this is what you asked for". I asked Mike to beautify the flagstone again after the crew ruined it, and this was totally neglected. I asked Mike to pay for the replacement of the rusted gas pipe, and he stated "it's was only exterior rust, not big deal" so this was $400 out of my pocket. I asked them to clean the concrete splatter off the side of house and no response. I asked him to pay the landscaper for fixing their collapsed trench and he blamed everyone else. And then the simple things like picking up after yourselves, this even took prying to make happen. Sorry Mike, this is the result of your effort of trying to neglect my simple requests. Total opposite of the other 3 contractors I dealt with on this project. read more

He did not follow the plans for the whole wall. The plans for the concrete block retaining wall called for vertical steel every 16", a double rebar bond beam across the top of the wall, and fill the entire wall with concrete prior to putting the caps on the top of the wall. Two thirds of the wall was built this way, but the rest was missing the concrete fill, the top bond beam, and half the vertical steel. The remaining steel was just loose in the wall since there was no filler. The 1/3 of the wall began to fail about 8 years after construction. At first it was subtle. Recently it got worse, so I investigated and found the extent of the errors. read more
