The process is long but so worth it and Dr Shafa and her team are honestly the best! Would 10/10 recommend. I've had TCA Cross and Co2 laser done to help deal with severe acne scarring. Had 2 TCA Cross and 3 Co2 laser treatments and my skin has gotten significantly better (approximately 70-75%? Or so). My skin was baaaad. Arrived 10 mins earlier for my appointment to fill out some paper work. Spent 15 mins answering questionnaire and 15 mins waiting to be seen by Dr. Shafa. HOWEVER, Dr. Shafa only spent 5 mins in the room with me and she seemed in a hurry. She kept cutting me off when I wanted to ask more questions and saying "Thank you. Have a good day and I'll see you next time." Her hand was on the door the entire time and half of her body was outside of the room. I read some reviews about Dr. Shafa isn't a dermatologist so I googled her license number on California Board web. It shows that she's a physician and surgeon, NOT a licensed dermatologist and I can see that because when I asked her that why I keep loosing hair, all she said was " it's genetic." Not sure if it's because she was in a hurry and impatient or she's not knowledgeable enough to give me a legit answer. At the end, she asked me to come back after a month for a follow up. I had Kybella done here with Dr. Shafa and unfortunately had to pay the price (big time) down the road. The injections were done superficially and caused such severe scar tissue that I just went through a liposuction procedure to have the scar tissue removed last week. I may need to get further steroid injections under my chin to treat any scar tissue that may form again from the result of the Kybella injections. I think the most upsetting part is doctors not informing and educating their patients as to what their best options are. Injecting anyone with anything because it profits you isn't what being a doctor is about. Finding the right solutions to the problems people come to you with IS what being a good doctor should be about, and I wish I could have had a positive experience here. I regret the time, money and energy I wasted on this establishment and the terrible Kybella product. I would advise against Kybella and any doctor that pushes it, run away! read more

I would like to start off by saying that the front desk personnel were very kind and accommodating over the phone and in the office. With that being said, Dr. Shafa and her office manager/financial counselor were the absolute worst! Their disorganization was clear from the moment I walked into their office. Visibly messy paperwork scattered all around the room and on top of a dirty dowdy desk. These two women together were the ultimate "mean girl" duo. They spoke down to me in a pretentious manner while displaying much irritation to my questions. Dr. Shafa then decided to advise, disclose and physically point out all the unflattering features on my face. She informed her fellow collogue of how she avoids/corrects these situations with fillers. I came in for an estimate on skin tags and instead was used as a physical diagram of what "not to do". It came off as some sort of sick sales tactic designed to make you feel insecure enough to buy whatever "magic" they are selling. In the end, they provided me estimates written on sticky notes that amounted to over $7000.. I wasn't going to write this review because I try not to pass negative judgment however, I would hate for anyone else to experience this. I drove 1 hour to get there and they looked at it said they could do but can not give me the cost because the person can is not there yet. The doctor took pictures of his moles and said will give a call back for the cost. I've been waiting for couples of days...no calls. I called and they said they don't know anything and the dr. is out of town on vacation. She said she will give me a call back when the dr. is back. Waiting, waiting a week later...nothing happens. I have wrinkle lines from the corner of my mouth to chin, commonly called marionette lines and I have wanted for such a long time to to do something about them. I went to OC MedDerm and visited with Dr. Shaka about it. She recommended a filler. The cost would be $1200. I was told it would last approximately one year, it lasted one month and then my wrinkles lines looked like they did before my visit. I went back to discuss this with Dr Shafa what my options were now. She told me she " always feels so bad when her patients aren't happy", then showed me the exit door. Shady Car Salesman Hard Sale Atmosphere and A Lot of Unknowns. My experience with Dr Parvin Shafa left me feeling extremely uneasy. Unfortunately, Yelp ran out of room for a full in depth depiction of what took place During and Post visit at the office.  The short of it is that I felt very rushed throughout the visit and had to ask the Dr for clarification about a lot of things, which were still even glazed over.  When I asked about my red bump skin irritation issues, she just told me to shave differently and find another process. OK.... like What/How? That is why I came to a Skin Dr, for help, not to have to find my own answers. Her answer: she prescribed me a topical solution.  Oily Skin? They make or sell a wonder cream in office called "Retin-A" (not sure spelling as I've only heard of Retinol before, but she said that is not it) and referred to it as "010" How much is it? $100 today but when I told them I would think about it, if I buy later, it would be $130  (I can't remember the exact up charge, but it was fairly significant $130 - $150). "It will take care of everything" from oily skin to make your pores smaller.    Dark Spots, which she says all will grow in circumference and even raise up. How to treat? A cosmetic thing she called "Plasma Laser". I couldn't get a clear explanation of it. She told me the girls will get me the price for it when I asked how much. $495 for up to 15 localized spots. I originally was going to do it but ended up cancelling it as I have never heard of it, and I consulted with my clients who are ASPS, Derm (farther away), and also Medspas, who have not heard of Plasma Laser and politely dissuaded me from trying this and all I could find online were Plasma Pens that you can buy from Ebay or other possibly questionable sites with average costs ranging from $15 - $70. When I called back for more information like if just one session, and if not, how many and how much for each additional session, they didn't know (wasn't in my chart) and had to call me back. "$495 for first session, which she is giving me a HUGE discount because it's usually $1495, then 1/2 off each additional session at $248". hmm, It all originally sounded like one session was all that was needed.  They charged me a Co-Pay when I don't have a Co-Pay. And after I cancelled everything, I got a bill for my deductible portion (which I understand, but what is the breakdown of what was charged?). They billed for $240 and I tried to find out what that was for (due to hard sale feeling of visit), office couldn't tell me (not clear from chart) and told me to call biller (not in the Dr's Office). Doesn't biller get the info from the Dr? What's in the chart? Talked to my insurance and they said it is listed as "45 min new patient". I had to spend the first 10-15 min telling assistant in the consult room the same answers that I had already answered on the iPad that broke while I was waiting the ~45 min beyond my appointment time. Unfortunately, main biller was out, they'll have to check the chart. When I asked what that 45 min bill means and if they bill per 15 min increment, they didn't know. I brought up having to spend first 15 min or so retelling question answers since iPad broke, and at $240, that makes sense that they're billing about $80 per 15 min, Office gal replied that I have to consider the time they take to enter notes and or put in prescriptions to pharmacy. Wow... you bill at $80 per 15 min for that? I had to call every few days because they never called me back as promised and finally just paid the full amount.  Everything just felt a bit shady. $100 if buy wonder cream today, upcharge if later. Dr not clarifying about treatments or what to do. Unclear and not up front pricing / info about Plasma Laser, and consistent "don't know, you/I need to talk to the other person" answers. read more

Dr. Shafa is by far one of the most personable and diligent dermatologists I have ever had. Truly. She removed my giant scar and performed micro-dermabrasion, both of which helped my acne flare. The staff was so friendly and the clinic was very clean. P.S. You have to keep in mind some patients will post negative reviews about certain doctors due to insurance errors, or some medications aren't covered by their insurance. Doctors like Shafa truly cares and they would always prescribe the most cost efficient medications to their patients, so check your insurance before posting negative reviews on their abilities and their practices. read more

I got two moles removed, three cherry angiomas (red moles) and a small skin tag above my eye removed. It was around $1300. This doctor is $$$$ if you don't have insurance or are coming for cosmetics. I made the appointment the day before on the phone, and had to wait over an hour to get the procedure after the consult. It wasn't the best experience having to wait such a long time with my shirt off for the doctor in the little room, but again I am grateful. Next time I'd rather come quick and go, as opposed to having to wait such a long time. (Prior employees were visiting the doctor and this took up a huge deal of time of me having to wait ) Don't make an appointment if you have something to do or planned afterwards, this takes at least an hour! The doctor wasn't too involved in the initial consult, it was more the medical assistants who called the doctor in at the end to introduce herself. I personally didn't mind that the medical assistants were helping in the consult because I know doctors are busy. The medical assistants also go over pricing with you, not the doctor. Most everyone in the office seemed sweet and welcoming, with the exception of a blonde girl who sat at the left front desk and looked miserable. The office was clean and sanitized. The doctor was kind, and explained everything she was doing when at my procedure. She knew how to distract from the pain, and is so confident in her work, she said if she leaves any kind of scarring after a few months she will take care of it complimentary! I have been going here since 2015 due to having PCOS. I have had previous laser session elsewhere for this condition, but was ripped off and was hesitant to do laser again. I would hide my face by leaving my hair down until I was introduced to Dr. Shafa by an acquaintance and couldn't be happier. I was extremely worried about the results and if the laser would work. Dr. Shafa gave me the details and unlike other doctors that "guarantee 100%", she told me an estimate with even a possibility of my treatment not working. She made me to try it once more and I'm glad I did. I got laser treatment done on my face (extremely stubborn area; chin, cheeks, neck) and have been very happy with the results. My acne has also been under control compared to my old puberty days with laser hair removal treatment. My acne scars have healed and I don't deal with ingrown hairs anymore that cause acne. Due to my condition, I do need more treatments and would definitely recommend her to anyone. I only have to go every 3-4 months now. She cares for her patients and is very welcoming. She is not one who will take your money. You get your money's worth. :) I started with her in 2015 and still see her in 2019 for touch-ups. ^__^ The location of this place is super convenient & clean. I know waiting can be frustrating from some of the reviews. Do expect to wait after check in because sometimes there is a delay sometimes. She is the only laser doctor available. Although I have only been a patient of Dr. Shafa's for three months, the results ive seen have surpassed my expectations and fears of treating my current acne and acne scars. I have done multiple chemical peels & as a first timer I was terrified but she carefully explained all the precautions and side effects that made the healing process a success.
