Rude, unfriendly, unhelpful. I called about 2 hours prior to their closing to ask if I could come in for a boot rental when my son got off work about 30 minutes before they closed. He's headed up to the mountain last minute tomorrow and I needed help getting him the gear. They bluntly said they couldn't help me and wished me good luck. I event called again to see if someone else was nicer - nope! I called Phils and they graciously said they'd help me, no issue and we were there well before closing. I have small feet and struggle to find places that stock my size in adult ski boots. Alex helped fit me into my new ski boots and he was extremely helpful and a pleasure to work with. I didn't feel overly pressured me to buy things that I did not want to buy and I felt very comfortable expressing any possible concerns with him. It was one of the best fitting and consultations I've ever had. I've skied all over the world, have instructed, raced, and spent years on mountains. This was the first time in a suburban environment I met people who actually knew how to properly fit a boot. (Trust me, I'm not easy to fit). I no longer ski at the level needing custom stretched or modified bladders. But this company absolutely fit me with the proper ski and boot. After skiing today, I've never been more impressed. Last year I rediscovered snow skiing so this year I planned on getting new equipment. I found out about OC Snowsports from my Facebook feed and am so glad I did. I walked in and started looking around when Darryl came over to help. I was doing research with no plans to purchase. I had been online but wanted to see equipment in person. Darryl was very friendly helpful and knowledgeable. Darryl freely gave his time and knowledge, I thanked him and left. After visiting another shop the next week I returned to Darryl at OC Snowsports to purchase boots with the best custom fit I have ever had with Masterfit orthotics. In the weeks to follow returned to purchase skis and poles. Great experience! Great bunch! I love my new equipment! If there was an option for zero stars I'd give to them. I went to OC snow sports and I ran out of the shop because I thought the guy working there was going to try and fight with me. All I did was use my phone to look up pictures of the skis I wanted and he instantly accused me of using my phone to get cheaper prices and yelled at me very aggressively. Mind you, this is the first interaction I have with him. And I left the shop somewhat worried he was going to follow me out to my car. Needless to say i went somewhere else, which was REI in Tustin (12 minutes away) which I gave 5 stars, and they were much more helpful, kind, and happy to see me as a customer. He's only happy when a deep pocket customer pays 3x what they should for some item, and is visibly aggravated at those who don't. God forbid you have to do a return. If anyone needs to find a different line of work, it's him. I could picture him as maybe a disgruntled construction worker, not someone in the customer service business. I don't need to tell you that going out to purchase new ski equipment for the first time or at least not for a long time, like in my case, can be quite daunting and a bit frustrating. I live in San Diego and after doing a bit of research i narrowed it down to a couple places, one being REI and the other OC SnowSports. Given the long drive to SnowSports, I decided to try my luck with REI here in San Diego. it was a beautiful store complete with a greeter at the entrance to help direct you to the area of the store that may help you find what you are looking for. After a quick try with some boots, wondering around for a bit, I decided this was not the answer. The correct answer to this was...... wait for it..... OC SNOWSPORTS!! I left a message and several hours later a fella named Darryl called me back on the phone. My first thought was wow, what took you so long to call me back. He was cool with me on the phone, i told him what i thought would be a boot i might like and he pretty much said " well i will sell you a boot that will fit your foot" ... "its too late to come in today because we will need 2-3 hours to get you all set" " if i am not here ,you are to speak with Elvis'".... I was like ohhhhkay! . I said 'OK, i will be up around 1030am" . I have to say, i drove right past the store, it's a tiny drive when you pull in (unlike REI box store with 200 spaces). I rolled into my parking spot got out and first reaction was this store looks to be sort of small, probably won't have much... WRONG AGAIN! I walked in and saw 3 employees buzzing around assisting customers ( i was thinking, no wonder Darryl couldn't jump and call me back, he is taking care of HIS CUSTOMERS). I'm looking around and I have to say this place really took me back, back to a custom SKI Shop to of all places in PATERSON NEW JERSEY 1971 (11 years old).... an AMAZING custom shop for SNOW SKIING,,,,total traditionalist, a beautiful thing folks. Snowboarders need not apply...downhillers only! I said "hello" to the man at the register ,who nodded as i waited patiently for him to finish up with his customer. When he was finished we exchanged pleasantries and he yelled out "ELVIS, this is Chuck, please take him over and prep him up for some boots" ELVIS looks to be about 6'2" ,older athletic build, long hair, chiseled face that looks like it had quite a ski story. Elvis is much deeper, Elvis is a blackbelt in the world of ski equipment with a concentration in the ski boot and the world of the foot anatomy. Elvis is an extremely articulate and very humble guy, very smart. Elvis took out tape measures, explained all the nuances of my foot as he measured, rattled off boots he thought would work for my foot and ones that he would never put me in and explained it point by point.. took into consideration my leg size, arch of my foot, on and on. We must have talked for a good hour and 1/2 while educating me on how to get in and out of the Salomon boot and how to tighten and care for the boot, watched me buckle it several times correcting me along the way as to the best way to do it so that i would maximize comfort and performance from the boot... next was the skis, then the poles and onto the ski outfit, all along the way Elvis asking me questions and giving insight on the various garments..... I have to tell you , it was a fantastic experience that afternoon. I think i was there for 3 plus hours , Darryl even jumped in to check to see how things were going in between customers filing in the door. Darryl is the real deal, old time skier, well traveled and extremely knowledgeable in the ski world and PORSCHE RACE WORLD. I hope you will give them an opportunity to serve you! Being a Costa Mesa resident & I'm all for supporting small businesses where I live. It makes it hard to do this though when an employee is RUDE & has no awareness re: customer service (literally argues w/the customer)!! Wish I had his name..... other than an older gentleman in his 50s with a nasty attitude & comes off as a "know it all"! I had rented skis/boots from this shop but I felt the boots were misfitted. After 2 runs I couldn't bare the pain of my toes all scrunched up hitting the top of the boot. If I was measured @ 24.5 (the line where my toes hit), shouldn't the boots be a little bigger than the actual foot measurement to allow a little room so that tip of toes aren't hitting the boot? Regardless, I ended up renting another pair of ski boots @ the place I was skiing at - this time I was measured a size LARGER than what I was @ OC Snowsports. I wouldn't have written this if it wasn't for the rudeness I experienced as a customer. Asking for a refund (for boots only) since I ended up having to rent another pair of boots that actually fit, shouldn't have warranted the response I received! I needed new ski boots and some guidance on what to look for in a boot. They were beyond helpful. Elvis was knowledgeable about what brands were best for the fit I needed, and had the perfect boot for me. I had a smaller foot and larger calf, and he took their time to explain why certain boots work and others don't. I never felt rushed and I never felt like I was being sold something that wouldn't work for me. I've been skiing for more than 50 years and in all that time I've never been treated so rudely. I came in to get the edges of my older skis sharpened. The young man who presumed to help me told me that, " those old skis need a lot more than help than sharpening." He threw me a smirking look and summoned his manager/owner over and said, " hey Daryl, what do you think about these?" Daryl said, what does he want to do with these? I told him I just wanted the edges sharpened. He said in a very condescending tone, I'm not putting these things on my machine and screw up a good piece of equipment. There was a little rust on the edges but the bottoms were as good as new. The skis had only been used 5/6 times at the last winter Olympic games that I was covering as a photojournalist. I told him they ski well and just need a sharpening. Daryl said, "Im not touching them." Then he just turned his back and started joking about my request. I went down the road to another Orange County Ski shop and they told me they would be ready to go in 2 days. I would suggest that you avoid OC Snowsports because there are a number of other very good ski shops to choose from. read more

I needed to have the bindings on my skis remounted so I called and Darrell asked me a couple questions and then said they could help me out in time before my ski trip. They were able to adjust the bindings without having to remount them and gave me a great deal on tuning the skis and reforming my boot to my foot. Joe helped turn a boot that was terribly uncomfortable into a perfect fit and given my extra wide feet and fat calves, I was so impressed. They are super knowledgeable and work diligently to make sure they are helping you with equipment for your needs and abilities. Highly recommend. I will definitely be back. read more

We went to check out and support our local ski and snowboard shop. After hearing the ads and commercials, we were excited and had high expectations. Both my husband and I enjoy all outdoors sports, particularly skiing and snowboarding. Within 15 minutes of being in the store, we were quite disappointed. We looked at the skis and boots, no one even looked our way. The one salesperson, talked shop with another friend the entire time. No "hello", no we will be right with you, not even a look in our direction. TWO people were in the store. We were patient, even picking out the boots we wanted to try out. Again, ignored. We finally left after 1/2 hr without one person looking our way. The merchandise is high quality but very overpriced. $45 a day for rentals? Not even demos... no thanks! Guessing this place will be out of business before you even read this review. read more

Came to do a rental but while customers came in wearing a mask per State guidelines, the employees at this store do NOT wear a mask. None of them. We had to walk right back out. Really disappointing the blatant disregard for their customers Heath and safety. Oof, beware that this store was NOT willing to accept a return for an unused item. I bought a $86 pair of gloves, came back 2 days later with receipt and item fully unused and intact, and was told it wouldn't be accepted except for Store Credit. Definitely poor form for a business to do this unless they're VERY explicit beforehand about not accepting returns! I'd recommend posting signs or something if you really need to stick with this!! Bummer, because otherwise, I was quite happy with the rest of the service I received. Employees cared about making sure I got the right rental/right fit, rental price was affordable, good equipment, etc This business does a lot of things right - just hope they're willing to take another look at handling returns. read more

Wow...what a great experience at OC Snow Sports. I went to get a pair of boots fitted that I purchased elsewhere. Darryl the owner met with me, measured my feet, viewed my stance and asked me many questions. In the end he recommended that I get another pair of boots. He was not trying to sell me something as he did not have inventory for the referred pair. Darryl actually went online and helped me to purchase the correct boots from a competitor who happened to have them in inventory. When I receive the boots, I will go back to OC Snow Sports for the fitting. Darryl might take a little time to warm up to you but once he gets going, look out for some great service, excellent advice and spectacular customer service. I would not go elsewhere as Darryl, Elvis and others on his team are just so knowledgeable and honest and helpful! read more

Just checked out this new snow sport shop in town. What a great experience. This is the kind of complete shop you're used to seeing only if you go to the mountain. The experience and expertise of the people working is a cut above and their patience's answering all my questions was amazing. The shop is brimming with high quality inventory for your every snow sport need. This is definitely a one stop shopping store including apparel to keep you warm, comfortable, and looking good. Despite not actually buying anything, I am thoroughly impressed with their knowledge and genuine interest in helping me make the best purchase decision. I came to them looking for a specific model of ski boots which I had tried at another shop. After a brief discussion and a few measurements they quickly persuaded me that the original boot selection was not appropriate, even though they had them in stock. What was most surprising was they did not attempt to sell me on other options, indeed, they said that they didn't carry any boots that would work for my, apparently, unusually dimensioned foot. Instead, they gave me very thorough recommendations for brands and models that might work as well as other shops that might have what I need. I walked into OC Snowsports for the first time on Sunday. Suffering from a recent bike crash with broken collarbone etc. I was not there to purchase anything but only to check it out for future needs. First off ,I was glad to see it was a "ski only" shop and had the latest and greatest skis, boots etc. on display. I was greeted by Darryl, the owner and had a great discussion in particular about a boot fitting issue I have. I was very impressed that rather than just try and sell me new boots and recommended I come back and give them an opportunity to resolve my issue. His explanation of potential solutions and the refitting process was based on experience and knowledge and made a lot of sense. They made a great first impression. read more

Preface* read the other reviews and the common issue is the owner DARYL. My girlfriend and I came in to pick up rentals for family friends that we paid for with our credit card. These are for 3 small children. You could visibly see that he was irritated already while sitting behind the rental counter. He asked "what do you want" (insert angry scowl) and we told them what we were there for. He said that he can't give us the gear because our names were not on the reservation. We told him how it was under her credit card and we needed to pick up the gear for the other family. He started becoming irate and yelling at us. When we pressed and asked if we could find a way to figure out a solution he continued to yell and then started cursing at us and made my girlfriend cry. I kept continuing to try to discuss with him and he just kept cursing at me and proceeded to walk away and hide in the employees only area. His last quote was "I will give you your money back I don't care if your friends want the gear tell them to come pick up their own $#*%". I feel that the snow community is well connected, kind, and close with one another so please from an avid snowsport family, please do not support this business. To be treated like that is completely disrespectful and yelling at someone to the point of tears is outright ridiculous. This place should be blackballed by the entire community. You will not find a better shop for your winter sport gear. Daryl and his folks are personable and have a ton of experience. Thought I knew what ski boots were supposed to feel like before I went in there. They took their TIME to make sure I found the right boot and then molded it to custom fit my foot. Went in with a particular ski in mind, Daryl asked me 100 questions on how I ski, where I ski etc. and then basically told me nicely that buying the skis I had in mind would be a huge waste. Followed the guys guidance because I could tell he didn't read all this crap in magazines, books it online...the dude shreds and hits all the big stuff. He literally changed the entire setup I had predetermined and I couldn't be happier. Best setup I've ever had. Just took my wife and 3 girls (11, 9, 6) in to get the same treatment. My wife and kids loved him and the shop and got everything they needed. You want professional guidance to get you what you need with personal/family touch to it? This is the spot. What a bizarre experience- went in on a Saturday there were about 5 other people in the store. I arrived at 12 pm, the shop closes at 6 pm. I asked about purchasing boots and getting them fitted. I was told that there's 5 people ahead of me and it'll take 45 minutes per person. I asked if I could put my name down or make an appt for later in the day. I was told no. I asked if they suggested I come back in a few hours or that I'm happy to hang around and wait. I was told "well I suggest you don't show up on a Saturday and next time come on a day that's not Saturday". The sales guy smirked at this. Im aware places are busy on Saturday because most people can't come in on weekdays? I didn't express any concern about waiting?? The entire experience was hostile. Not sure if it was because I was wearing a mask (was the only one wearing one, I always err on the side of caution when entering a new business as I'm unsure of what their rules are, couldn't care less personally if people actually are masked or not but try to be respectful of others). Ended up going to Baker Street snow which is 5 minutes from here, where it was equally busy but everyone was kind and relaxed and no one felt judgmental. read more

I went in to get findings mounted on a pair of skis and the guy behind the counter said oh, we need to do a boot check so he then takes the innerliner out of my boot has me stick my sock foot in my boot, and then tells me well, you got the wrong size boots my boots were actually fitted last year, and this guy never measured my foot he sticks my foot in a shell of my boot, and tells me you got the wrong size boots. These are ways too big and you need to buy new boots. We have boots here and we can fit you books. I'm like give me a break I couldn't get out of there quick enough I don't think they really wanted my business because I didn't buy my skis and bindings from them will not return and do not think anybody should go here. read more

This is the absolute worst place I've ever been to. DARYL is the biggest jerk I've ever met in my life. He yelled at me for trying to pick up rentals for my bosses children, that I paid for and said I wasn't allowed to even though last week he said it wasn't a problem. He said he "cant be held responsible for what other people say" despite HIM being the one who said it.
