I've been shopping at Surfside for decades, since they were on the peninsula. By far still the best shop around for surf/skate/snow. Stopped in to look at a new snowboard yesterday and ended up with a rad new setup. John in the skate/snow section was super helpful and so was everyone else. It reminded why I used to always get my gear from Surfside. While we were there my son grabbed a skate deck from the $40 bin. Ended up back at Surfside today to build his deck up and had awesome service again. 10/10 service 10/10 vibe 10/10 value Surfside is by far the best neighborhood shop around! read more

The next morning I received a fraud alert from my bank that someone was trying to buy video game accessories with my credit card. As a LONG time customer of Surfside sports when I was a kid in the 1980's. I thought to take my grom to the shop to grab a short sleeve full summer wetsuit and a pair of walk shorts. They didn't have any selection in the short sleeve summer wetsuit for kids which is pretty much par for the course now with retail so I don't full them on this. They did have a pair of shorts and even had them in his size. Service on the floor was pretty good and I was feeling good about shelling out $55 for a single pair of kids shorts... However things went south as soon as I got to the cash register - the service there was horrendous. The salesman who rang me, didn't even look me in the eyes, didn't say a word to me, rang my purchase and dumped the shorts and the receipt in the bag. no thank - you no appreciation no have a nice day - nothing - I'll tell you what, As a long time surfer and working at Billabong and other companies in my long retail history, I realize there are other retailers in this world that appreciate customers and make you feel special. Sadly, Surfside sports did none of this, and therefore I won't return. Stuffing your store full of clothing and hoping for the best isn't gonna cut it in today's retail space. My fiancé and I have shopped here quite a few times and have had a great experience each time! The selection of both surf, skate AND snow stuff is huge! They've got surfboards, snowboards, skateboards, wetsuits, snowboarding boots, bindings, helmets, goggles, towels.. EVERYTHING! We've shopped here for snowboarding gear when there was an awesome sale! I wasn't expecting to walk out with so much stuff when I came in just to look. I almost purchased a snowboard but had to talk myself out of it because that was too spontaneous! Our most recent visit here was last night. We browsed for over an hour! The snowboard sale was limited this time, but my fiancé was still able to score some great deals on his gear. Every time we've come in, the staff has helped us out extensively. They are so knowledgeable on the products they are selling in terms of quality and performance. They can help you out on which board to choose based on your height, weight, skill level and different snow parks. My fiancé has spoken with the manager (whose name we unfortunately don't know) and learned that the companies selling their products here provide education which clearly shows when we're talking to staff! On top of friendly staff, their selection, and sales - there was a staff member's sweet dog in the store who allowed me to pet them! read more

Hands down the best local surf shop in Newport Mesa. Have been going here since elementary school when they used to be located near Newport Pier. This location is way better--much bigger and way easier parking. They always carry one of the biggest board selections, wetsuit selections including many options for kids, a big snowboard section, skate section and of course very large clothing selection for guys/girls. They always carry a big selection of the local brands. Sign up for their text/email alerts to be notified of their Best local deals--usually are Back to School, Spring season, and before the Christmas holiday season sales. Been a good customer since before they moved to 17th street. I will not go there again. Bought a pair of RVCA jeans for $73. I asked the sales person if the jeans would shrink and the sales person said they shouldn't, but that I could just hang dry them to make sure. To be safe, I bought them a little oversized. I washed them in cold water delicate cycle and hung them out to dry. They shrank close to 3 inches in length and they went from baggy to tight. They look ridiculous and I can't wear them. I went to return them and the manager said they couldn't accept the return because they can't be resold. I said I paid a lot money and I can't wear them. She offered me a 20% discount on a new pair of jeans. I will not be going back. read more

So I've been going to Surfside for years and have always loved their services and products. This review however needed to be shared to give major credit when credit's due. My experience started yesterday when I was connected with John in the snowboard department. I have a pair of high end ThirtyTwo snowboard boots and I have stubbornly been trying to break in for a couple seasons and suffering through pinched feet, and numb toes. John recommended that I bring my boots in to see if they can help Identify the problem. So today I went in fully expecting to buy a new pair of boots, but I connected with John and Taylor and we started talking about the issues and they insisted that I try the heat moulding. While my boots were heating up another guy (blanking on his name, but had what I think may be a Hawaiian vibe) helped me pick out some googles for my son. Rad. Long story short, these guys helped me Identify and fix my problem. The heat moulding created the space I needed in the boots I had and fit and feel amazing. They easily could have just sold me a new pair of $300-400 boots but didn't. This is the kind of customer service you look for and will keep customers coming back. And with 3 kids I will definitely be coming back here for gear upgrades for years to come. Even had a nice chat with the Owner Duke. Everyone couldn't have been nicer... Came here to purchase a smith ski helmet. I was helped right away and they gave me a good understanding of the safety features between the different helmet brands. Even though there are inventory issues for other ski stores, I found what I needed here. What surprised me here was how nice the store was and their product selection. This place never dissappoints! I live 35 miles away but this is still the place I go for snowboard gear. During the off seasons they have the most amazing sales. Staff is amazing, always helpful. Sometimes they have their super chill big friendly dogs greeting you too. My favorite brands are 686, never summer and burton. This time I came during peak season because for the life of me I could no longer find my snowboarding helmet. Went through the selection of Bern helmets and actually found a nice one on the sale rack just in time for a trip. read more

Surfside is a great surf shop. There are lots of helpful employees and some big dogs (literally) patrolling the store. THey have everything from snow to surf. I saw a variety of brands from young to old - volcom to Tommy Bahama. Pickles is the big white dog. She is a good girl. I saw they had a good selection of bikinis and got a new one. THey had alot of playful sun dresses. I bought those too. I tried to think of something I did not like about this place, but I can not. Keep up the great service. read more

This is one of my favorite brick and mortar shops for snowboarding gear. They carry the more popular brands like Burton, Volcom, Roxy, ThirtyTwo, 686, etc. at a reasonable price. The customer service is always on point and everyone here is so passionate about the gear they carry. Even when they don't carry something that fits my needs, I can always count in the staff to recommend me a brand or store that might. This place is so cool. Great variety, huge selection. Nice, clean store. But aside from all those awesome things, they have a great staff. I went in there a weekday night with my two toddlers. My 3 year old was behaving, but OH MY GOSH my 2 year old was definitely the embarrassing kid running and screaming through the store. We were being helped by a man with a Brazilian accent and he was so good with my BRATTY kid. He had patients and knew how to get him to relax and try on his boots. I often skip going out places with my terribly 2 son, but my experience here was so great. I will definitely be going back for my families sporting needs! read more

I came here to get my snowboard boots heat molded for free. Talked to the employee and got feedback since my feet are wide. I even came around with some free J-Bars. They guys there are really stellar people. I didn't leave the place without buying a pair of Stance snowboard socks. The snowboard collection is decent. They have Never Summer, Capita, Burton, and Lib Tech. Majority were at MSRP, but talk to someone and see what's up. Boots they have Burton and Vans.
