McMullin Snowboard and Ski Co) is a cute small business ~ literally your one stop shop, specializing in all things ski & snowboard. It's located in Santa Ana in the deserted looking Edinger Business Park. They are definitely known for their discount prices on all winter/snow-related gear, outerwear, and accessories, as well as services like waxing, tuning, and rentals. When you walk in, the store is so neatly arranged and organized, it's super easy to find everything you are looking for. After coming here for so long, I legit just discovered that upstairs houses their "gently used" section, for those looking for an even more affordable option. The workers are super friendly, with a chill vibe. Everyone is knowledgeable & always willing you help you. My lil fam of 4 snowboards every year, so we have come here (year after year) to update our snow outfits, to googles, boots, snow socks, thermals, & beanies. You name it, they have it..AND we've bought it! Even when my kiddies wear younger..babies, we even got sledding/tubing gear here, so they could play in the snow. Such a cool small business. The workers here give off the hip chill outdoorsy vibe- like they know what they're doing, could scale a mountain, and they would never be bothered by anything. We were greeted multiple times stepping into the store and asked if we needed any help. We just came here for a snow jacket to prepare for real cold. The inside has cool decorations, snowboard brands etc kind of like a little wooden fort. Theres even a laddered second floor where they sell 2nd hand items. The store is divided into sections for board care/rentals, they have curtained fitting space and a toilet. They even have helmets and ski shoes. The prices here for snow jackets/gear (have pants too) are definitely cheaper than other name brand outdoor places and good quality (150-200), even cheaper than some outlets (but im not too well versed in brand comparisons so dont quote me if you are seasoned). I I think accessories might be cheaper at outlets?, but its more convenient to get everything in one place. They have toe warmers and google covers. They even have the board conditions for different mountains written on a white board as if you were up there in a resort. It would be great if they had a diagram for beginners of what clothing items/essentials to get including accessories and thermal layers as the store overall is very approachable to a southern californian newbie. The only thing is that it is a bit hole in the wall, parking is a bit confusing as you do look like you're pulling up to an inn. But there is a parking lot and we seemed okay parking there for our time here. Had a good time here, would recommend it to anyone looking to get into winter sports. read more

I like the welcoming crew that works here. They're all so knowledgeable about the gear they have in for the season. Cami help me pick out my first snowboard. She helped me find one that was the right fit; size and style wise. They have a huge selection for goggles, helmets, boots, bindings, beanies, jackets and pants too. They're not open year around so you do have to plan a bit. You'll get great deals and amazing service. So if you're looking to replace your old snow gear or bring it in for repair. I've lived in the area all my life and had no idea they were here!! I've been to REI and they were super helpful but don't have my size and what I needed and they were super expensive. I also went to OC green room in CM and no one there helped me or even said hi so I ended up just buying my gear online. Now I needed a place to calibrate my skis and get them ready and I needed to look for a new place. I checked Yelp this time and found PF. I came in to have my new skis calibrated. Cami was super helpful and quickly got me taken care of and I was in and out. I saw they had some things I will come and shop for to support a mom and pop shop vs the other online giants. Love coming here for my snowboarding needs! Came here today because I bought a snowboard & bindings online and definitely don't think I'd be able to install them myself.. But they were able to mount them for me! I didn't get the name of the nice guy that helped me but he was super helpful & friendly! I shopped for some snow pants while I waited & they were already done when I came to check out. Visited last March. Came here for full snowboard rental package ($35). Good selection of gear. The $500 deposit is only temporary. Friendly, straightforward, professional service. Store is crowded with merchandise but few customers. Plenty of parking available. I think they didn't have double boa snowboard boots. read more

Cami's dedication to her customers is the reason I've been a loyal customer for almost a decade, and I'm grateful for how she handled things. 10/15/2024: I've been a loyal customer of PFPowder for 9 years, starting my snowboarding journey in 2015 when I bought my first snowboard at their Santa Ana location. Every year before the season, I've upgraded my gear through them. However, things changed recently. In October 2023, I bought a pair of K2 snowboarding boots at PFPowder Santa Ana location. The staff measured my feet and told me I was a size 7, even though I had been riding in size 9 boots for 8 years. They recommended the smaller size for better performance. While I could fit into the size 7 boots, they were extremely tight, but I trusted their advice. After 10 days of riding, the boots became unbearable after a few hours on the snow. Eventually, I went to another store in OC and bought size 9 Nitro Team boots, which fit perfectly. This didn't change my overall positive view of PFPowder--I just figured the issue was with that particular boot. I even sold the K2s at half price once I got the new pair. A month later, before Thanksgiving, I bought a Sidas high-arch insole from PFPowder Ontario after they measured my foot and suggested the product. After a few days of riding, I started experiencing discomfort. While visiting Mammoth, I went to another shop where they re-measured my arch and told me I actually have a low arch, not high. I was surprised since PFPowder had recommended a high-arch insole. When I returned to PFPowder to explain the situation, the only response I got was, "Oh, I'm sorry." As a loyal customer for almost a decade, I expected a bit more than just an apology. While I still have a lot of love for PFPowder and the memories I've made there, I'm no longer sure I trust their recommendations. I might shop there again, but I'll definitely be more cautious in the future. I also take responsibility for fully trusting their measurements and should have been more cautious after years of snowboarding. I used to do a lot of skiing and I have not done a ton of ski gear shopping lately. When my son asked for some snowboard gear for this season, I really had no idea where to go other than online shopping. When it comes to boarding or skiing, fit is incredibly important, rentals are a pain in the behind to deal with, time consuming and expensive. Some friends of ours are an avid skiing and boarding family and swear by this place. I'd never heard of this place before but I'm super happy to have found it. It's on Edinger near the 55 but I was lost trying to find the storefront as it's not in a typical retail strip mall. It looked sketchy as hell from the outside but, as I walked in, I knew i was in a great spot. Super friendly gal at the counter told me they have been in the same spot for 50 years. Obviously, the emphasis has shifted from skiing to boarding to keep up with the changing times. For folks my age, gone are the slim bright powder suits, tight ski pants and short jackets. In are the loose, grunge-like baggy, plaid, dark separates. Rack after rack of jackets, pants, long underwear, gloves, goggles, hats, socks, boards, bindings, boots and, yes, even some skis and ski boots. The staff is beyond helpful. Jacob took great care of my son with his board needs and James is some kind of Boot God, knowing the biology of the foot in relation to boarding angles, turns, padding, support, posture, as well as body weight, experience and budget. He took so much time with us and found some relatively inexpensive options that fit like a glove on a surgeon's hand. We walked out with a pair of boots, bindings and a used board. That is, UNTIL I went to PF Powder in preparation to visit legendary Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Cami and Andrea answered all of my annoying questions, explained my options, and recommended items to stay warm at the "Frozen Tundra." They absolutely know what they are talking about, and the price and quality of the five items I purchased was superior. Temps were between 35 and 42, with a bit of wind and sprinkles. I talked to like 3 different guys there in one day just about bindings and how each brand and model function. It made my decision pretty easy, especially since they have a ton to select. It's been about 25 to 30 years since I've gone to the store. Have no idea why I haven't returned. I needed some new snowboard boots and looked on Yelp for stores and this was the highest rated place around... for a GOOD REASON! I walked in and they pointed me over to James "the snowboard boot guy". They said that he knows his stuff and boy were they right! I would highly suggest going in and talking to James when you have time to try on boots and spend a few minutes walking around in them. It was definitely beneficial to go on a Friday afternoon when there weren't a lot of people in the store. Although I was there for 45 minutes or so, it was well worth the time spent to get a pair of boots, that almost feel custom fit, that I will likely wear for many years. DO NOT try to choose your own boots blindly! Make sure that you talk to someone that knows how to get a proper fit and James is that guy! Thank you James! I have been snowboarding since 1992. My kids are now 21 and 19. PF McMullin has been the source of several iterations of my kids overall gear from the time they learned (6 years old) til now. I just called the store and it's always the same pleasantries...I asked about their selection of 8.5-9 men's boots for my son and it was immediately "Hold on for a minute, let me check". She came back with a list of all brands in his size. These days, retail customer service rarely goes to that level. Drove from Carlsbad to this outlet and wow was it worth the drive. I left with easily $300 savings on some sweet gear. Customer service was great as they had enough employees to help and recommend products if needed but if you want to browse in peace they aren't hovering over you either.
