I was in the market for a used car and had narrowed my search to about 3-4 cars. I spoke with Holiday at OC Topcars to get some additional information on the car of theirs I was considering, and he was very helpful. I ended up taking a ride down to the dealership to view the vehicle later that week, and once again, Holiday was helpful in being flexible with scheduling the viewing/test drive. He showed me the car, let me take it for a test drive, and gave me a bit of info on the car as well. Once I had my search narrowed down to two vehicles, OC allowed me to have a mechanic come by the dealership, test drive it, and perform a prepurchase inspection. Once again, Holiday was flexible and accommodating. After getting both cars looked at, I ended up going with the other car (due to 20k fewer miles, and a few other preferences), so I can't comment on the purchase experience with OC. But Holiday was open, honest, and sincere in my car shopping experience, and I'd imagine the purchase would have been just as pleasant. Told me this truck was sound and would last another 100,000 miles after all the work they put into it. Where do I begin! My car broke down and in less than a week I was driving a beautiful car from OC Top Cars. They took their time to work with me and I was even able to get approved before I even went in! I was able to get a loan and they still bought my old car to give me a little extra cash in my pockets. Holiday, the general manager took his time to make sure I understood everything I was signing and provided me with plenty of documentation for my own records. I will preface this with, there were a TON of red flags when I purchased this vehicle and I should have known better.... I purchased a 2016 Ford Explorer from OC Top Cars in March 2019. The advertisement for the vehicle described the vehicle as being in great condition, non smoking, no accidents. The Carfax report supported this as well. I went to the dealership immediately to see the car. As soon as I opened the door to the vehicle it REEKED like smoke, a combo of cigarettes and weed. The interior is cloth so the smell was pretty much stuck to the fabric. The owner of the dealership (Elmer?) said that when his mechanic was resetting the keypad on the door that the mechanic was smoking and so that's how this smell got in the car - I guarantee it was much more than that otherwise the smell would have been easy to get rid of and it still stinks to this day. That was my first red flag. That keypad he mentioned - Elmer had no idea what the code was for me to set it up so I couldn't even use it unless I called Ford. Next red flag - there was paint damage to the hood of the car but Elmer graciously offered to fully paint the hood if I purchased the vehicle. I was given the opportunity to drive the vehicle around town - on my own which was odd to me but whatever. I drove it, seemed fine. Wish I would have driven it on the freeway and up hills- I'll explain why shortly.... I decided to purchase the vehicle based on what I saw and based on the Carfax report provided and verified. The dealership also purchased my existing vehicle from me for a fair price which was a huge plus for me. I dealt with Holliday for all of the paperwork, he was really an amazing, kind, and patient guy and seemed to be honest - and never gave me a reason to think he wasn't. I went on my way in my new car and thought I made a great decision. Little did I know this was a horrible decision and has cost me so much more than this car is worth. I had the car for about a week and started getting used to it and then realized some things I didn't really pay attention to or didn't cross my mind when I was originally purchasing the vehicle... it didn't come with a 2nd key so I had to pay extra for that. the seatbelts in the 2nd row are NOT the original manufacturer's seatbelts - replacing seatbelts is not a typical "upgrade" or aftermarket item people replace (another red flag), the dashboard (on the inside of the car near the windshield) continually popped out of place and to this day won't stay in. The glove box doesn't close properly and as of now falls completely out of place when it is opened. Fast forward to May 2019 (only 2 months after purchase), the vehicle begins to overheat. I took it into Ford for a diagnosis and THANKFULLY it was still under the manufacturers' warranty (BARELY) at 58,120 miles! It was determined that the vehicle had the grill shutters (front end of vehicle) stuck closed for who knows how long due to a broken rod which contributed to the overheating AND the vehicle needed a partial transmission rebuild. The transmission rebuild was covered, the grill shutters were not - so another $1350 out of pocket for this repair that highly likely was already an issue when OC Top Cars had possession of the vehicle. All repairs were made by Ford and I got the car back and went on my merry way. Fast forward again now to November 2019, just 6 months from the previous major repairs. The vehicle mileage is now just 2K over the coverage for the manufacturers warranty and has a blown head gasket and needs a new engine. Per Ford this was a result of the grill shutters being stuck closed. SO - paint damage on hood, dashboard piece wont stay in place, glove box damaged and wont stay in place, seat belts replaced by someone prior to my purchase and the grill shutters stuck closed due to a broken rod.... this all leads me to believe that there was some significant damage to the vehicle that was not disclosed and tried being covered up. Now, this may not be the fault of OC Top Cars but CLEARLY they did NOT do their due diligence to ensure this vehicle was in quality condition to sell to someone and have it being a functioning vehicle. they sold me a piece of junk and I find it very hard to believe they didn't have their mechanic inspect the vehicle before they sold it to me. I feel like they totally took advantage of me, especially being a young woman, with not much knowledge of cars and they screwed me big time. BUYER BEWARE. If you are going to purchase a vehicle from them, have it fully inspected by your own trusted mechanic first! P.S. the smoke smell has never gone away and the car still stinks BAD. read more
