I had the same issue with Maria the older woman that some of the other customers had. She's rude but personally she's always been that way. She doesn't like to replenish chips and salsa the salsa bowls have always been half filled. When you ask for more it's like the wait at the DMV. I can't complain about the food it's been descent I only went today because my wife wanted to go so I said yes but was hesitant about going! But again I was right Maria still has an attitude and never will change. There was a younger waitress there she served us drinks, coffee and soda brought us chips and salsa very pleasant then Maria took over like night and day! Maria should take personality lessons from the younger waitress it would help a great deal. I did take family members here about 3 years ago never told them anything about Maria's attitude but that was the first thing they said she had anger problems. Will I go again? My husband and I love this place. We have been to quite a few Mexican places and we feel that not too many places compare to this one. Yes, the interior needs updating...but the food is worth it. First visit, was late on a Sunday night..food and service was wonderful. So much so, we visited again a few days later...food still good, service not so much. Our 3rd and final visit was last Saturday. We got in from a long vacation, wanted good food and to relax. Ordered two beers and requested chips and salsa while we went over the menu and talked. This is my first time here.... And I can honestly say I do not like it one bit. I ordered the shrimp al mojo de ajo and it was almost flavorless with garlic and onions piled next to it. My husband ordered the green burrito. That too did not have much flavor and the meat tasted like leftovers. We also ordered fish tacos (2) almost ten dollars..... Those were completely flavorless too. The chips were in a tiny little basket....the first order is free and a refill is 4.75. Kinda crazy. I will not be coming back here. It's not worth the cost. The restaurant is inside a little street mall so you wouldn't expect anything spectacular but it is probably the best mexican food I have had! My review is for their menudo. It is the only thing I've ever had, also chips and salsa. Both are FABULOUS! I don't know why people come on here and rate 1 star just on the basis of the service. This is a business that serves food to hungry people. Shouldn't the flavor and presentation of said food come into the rating somewhere? They are not overly friendly and they don't come to your table every 10 minutes to see what you need, but they're not mean soup nazi people either. The food was as good as described. Great tasting chile relleno, delicious shredded beef taco, home made refried beans, and of course, the chips & salsa! We were concerned about the negative remarks on the service, but no problems here. The waitress came over quickly, brought menus, took our drink order & then the chips & salsa arrived. I don't care if the food is impeccable the service is absolute SHIT. and it's by the owner. Have never had such careless rude service and I've worked and managed food service for 12+ years there is no excuse especially by the owner. She came to take our order and was short, rude and didn't even listen to our questions or requests which were just simple questions. My brother is allergic to onions and just wanted to make sure there were none in the food he ordered she rudely said there was none. We asked for a refill of chips and salsa you have to pay. We had the lunch from the lunch specials $7.75/ each. My wife had the burrito. It was pork instead of beef and salty. Rather small and refried beans seemed thin. I had the chili relleno and beef taco. The taco was excellent. The relleno was small, very little sauce and tasted like it had freezer burn. The refried beans were OK but thin. The chips and sauce were excellent. If I ever went again which I won't I would just have the chips and sauce and the hard shell beef tacos. i have NEVER written a bad restaurant review but we just had the worst experience at Ocampos. We have been going there almost weekly for at least 10 years. I wasn't very hungry so my husband ordered a three item combo and gave me a taco. We were with 3 other people who ordered meals. When we asked for a second basket of chips she said she'd have to charge us. The bill came and she charged us $2.75 for their dinky basket. BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE FOR A LOYAL CUSTOMER I WOULD SAY! I wish I could give zero stars. My friend and I went here for a drink and light dinner. Since we were not very hungry and the menu offered a kids portion for adults with a slight charge, my friend ordered the kids enchilada plate with a dinner salad on the side. When she ordered, the server told her it was going to be a small portion with a rude tone, as if she didn't know a kids portion is smaller than an adult portion. Then, I ordered chips and salsa. She told me that because my friend only ordered a small portion, they could only bring a small portion of chips and would have to charge for more. I told her that was fine, I expected to pay for what I ordered, but it was slightly annoying since we were spending money on beer as well. Then, they brought the "salad," a plate of literally wet lettuce. My friend asked about her drink that was supposed to be included with the meal and the server told her it does not come with the meal if an adult orders it. Which makes sense if you aren't charging extra for an adult ordering the kids portion. To top it off, the table next to us was also upset, because they ordered another round of drinks, bottled beer, and it took an especially long time to be brought to their table. When they tried to cancel their order, they were told the beers were already open so they couldn't cancel them, even though they still hadn't brought them to the table.
