I was lucky enough to play a few at the Ocean Course and what a beauty. From the impeccable grounds to the friendly staff, I had such an amazing experience. GOLF - This course was challenging and it showed on my scorecard. Despite that, I absolutely loved it. If I had the ability to properly hit out of sand, I could have saved 6 or 7 strokes! The front 9 was tranquil and as mentioned by many, the back 9 is absolutely gorgeous. Ocean! Ocean! Ocean! I have never played on a course so breathtaking! Speaking of ocean, it claimed a few of my golf balls. STAFF - I just loved everyone who worked there. They were so friendly and helpful - I felt as if I was a family friend. As my game needed it, I took a lesson from Kellie and she was top notch! In fact, I learned so much from her in an hour it's already showing in an extra 15 yards off the tee! The starter for my first rounds (Hugh) was simply adorable and the starter for my last rounds (Rickie) was awesome. These guys are pros - of all the holes that i played, I only had to wait once (the signature Hole #16) and I never felt rushed by the groups behind me. It was such a pleasure to be greeted by Kurt before and after my rounds - he took great care of my clubs and was fun to talk to about my woes on #18. Lastly, the guy and gals in the clubhouse were great - I wish i had their names. Mahalo! I cannot speak enough about how fantastic overall the Ocean Course was. By far the best experience at a golf course... ever. I was late to my tee time by 90min, but they were easily and readily able to accommodate me. The starter, Ricky, was funny and friendly (even though he hates the 49ers). I can't recommend this place enough. read more

Where do I begin? From the condition of of the course (perfection), to the stunning vistas, to the gracious approach of the staff, the Hokuala golf course is worthy of a day of your vacation. The front 9 offers views of the harbor, fairways landscaped with nature trees and foliage in full bloom, and vistas of Oceanside cliffs. The back 9 traces the coastline, each hole more spectacular than the last. It will be hard to ever put your camera away. If Ricki is your starter (he seems to always be there), you are in for a treat. He paces play such that you have to work at it to catch a glimpse of other golfers. But the real standout is the staff. They can't forget a name. To a one, this team is attuned to their guests, eager to be helpful. Their sincere hospitality sets them apart. The lasting memory for us has been their lovely, kind, happy approach toward making sure our experience was truly an exceptional one. read more

We always check out activities before we go. We knew we wanted to play but not having been to Kauai befor did not know where. The easy thing was every place I checked had clubs available to rent. In our case it was better than the ones at home. The course was in excellent condition. The stag both in the shop and on the course we so nice and helpful. Anyway a great time was had. read more

My husband and I had been to this golf course two years ago when it was 9 holes. We wanted to come back when it was 18 holes. We went yesterday when they had a very slow day and prices were still regular almost $200 a round at 2pm with only one golfer on the course. We were not happy that they failed to tell us the greens were sanded (when we asked at the end we were told it was a "light sand top coat that day" which it looked and played to have been recently sanded not light) greens being sanded sometimes makes the difference between playing a course or deferring until they aren't sanded. Also our GPS wasn't working (normally don't use one but on vacation and paying almost $200 a round) when I called the lady at the desk she immediately knew it wasn't working and started it for us (which two years ago they do at the first tee when you are teeing off). The staff was nice, but having been in management/customer service in the past just because you don't have many golfers doesn't mean the service should change. Unfortunately we probably won't be returning and I hope that management can make every golfers experience great whether no players on the golf course or a full course. read more

Great golf course, great people. Ricki is a gem. Par 3 15th is a mirror image of the second shot at pebble 8, which is generally regarded as the greatest second shot in golf. Wonderful variety of holes but the people make it special. And the chilled mango scented towels are a wonderful way to finish! read more

Okay I am the first to review this course, and I am very surprised that there are no reviews! I have to say, this course is among the top 5 courses I've played in terms of the quality versus the price. The ocean views on the back nine are terrific, even better than wailea emerald and poipu bay. It is a good mixture of forgiving and difficult, as the fairways can be super tight on some holes, and wide open on others. I've played many high end courses in Southern Caifornia, and Hokuala's service and overall quality is on par with Trump National, Pelican Hills, and Torrey Pine. Obviously the course is not exactly the same quality as they charge $150 for greenfees whereas the latter are upward of $275+, but wow, the course blew me away! The starter Ricky was extremely accomodating and a great character to get you ready for your round. Private practice range with complimentary balls, nice chipping and putting greens, awesome sandwiches at the turn, and most of all amazing views. I just got to say, I also played Poipu Bay, Wailea emerald, and Kapalua this vacation and Hokuala was definitely the best bang for my buck! Would definitely play here again! We were just on Kuai'i during our family vacation and were anxious to play golf while we were there. We had the Ocean Course at Hokuala recommended to us and it was some of the best golf we have ever played. The course is impeccable, the views are astonishing, and the experience is one of the best I have ever had. The staff went out of their way to make this experience memorable. We were able to rent our clubs and shoes making our travel easier. If you have the opportunity, the Ocean Course at Hokuala is the course to play on Kuai'i. We hope to go back to Kuai'i and stay nearby because of our experience, along with the beautiful hotel and beaches nearby. This is a must-see! It is more than golf, it is an experience! read more

It's typical Hawaiian municipal course conditions with a couple holes with nice views. Overpriced for what it is. What's really just plain robbery is on our last day I wanted my daughter to get in a little practice so we walked across from the Hotel to the chipping area and was immediately drove up on by the starter stating we had to check in at the Pro shop to be there. To chip and putt? OK whatever. So he drives me all the way to the clubhouse to find out you have to buy range balls to hit if want to or not.... OK cool I guess. Oh and that will be $40 cuz you and your daughter have to rent a cart to drive back where we left her. WTF?!?!? Never heard of anything like it. Lesson learned. There's so many really nice and pristine courses with views to choose from around the same price. We played Princeville Makai and they charged my daughter nothing to play and ride. Now that's a beautiful course with great staff. read more
