Had family from Ca & Pa in for a visit for a few days. The group of eight stayed in Chincoteaque They were all looking for a taste of something different. Two of girls are most times veggies/ no meat. I took them to my favorite jewel for some of the best Greek food in Va. They woofed out on the cheese fries, Greek salads and the Althena pizza made to order meatless. These skinny gals eat like teenage boy's and took the rest back to their BnB. They told me later they couldn't get over quality of the meals (they went back there twice) and the great wine and craft beer selection. On their second visit my Daughter was personally acknowledged by one of the young managers named Derek who was kind enough to make them feel special and welcomed even with her somewhat noisy toddlers. My turkey and swiss sub was SO DELICIOUS. My companions also enjoyed their reuben and cheesesteak. The menu is huge so you can keep going back. There is a wide variety so if you want easy to go food to bring to the beach, or a big greek or Italian type dinner you can get either. I felt sorry for the lady working, she looked so busy, but we didn't have to wait very long and had fun poking around the rest of the store in the meantime. So good we came here twice in one day. There aren't many options in this area for food, and when we got a little tired of eating at the NASA cafeteria, we headed over here for lunch. They were pretty busy, but the food came out quick and there were plenty of places to sit. I got the gyro, which had a good meaty flavor, plenty of greens, and a tzatziki sauce to remember. Came back for dinner and a small greek salad that was HUGE, a stromboli, which had a great crust, although the flavors in the filling were only about average. My coworkers got pasta dishes that were enormous, about 2-3 servings in one bowl. Today I wanted to try something Greek, so I choose the House Salad with chicken breast (pretty much a Greek salad with chicken). The salad was huge with a large amount of chicken. What a surprising little diamond in the rough on the way to the island. Not only a decent convenience/beer/wine store, but a remarkably good deli- beyond anything one would expect hooked to a gas station. Surprisingly large menu- specifically heavy on Greek and Italian along with the usual American fare. The subs, pizza, gyros and Greek salad are very good. The Stromboli is down right amazing. Not exactly *fine dining*. The tables on one side are basically in the middle of a liquor store. You get a printed local ad placemat to read (like in a diner) while you're waiting for your order. Where should I start. The cook is rude and yells at everyone...including the boss. The owner (female) has no clue what's going on. They never bring out a tables food all at the same time or bring some of your food to you then the other half later. They give your orders to other people (there are ticket numbers by the way). The other day I sat there my entire lunch break for my food only to find out it was given to someone else. I ended up having to get my food to go. The only thing they said was "Oh sorry. Well if you read other reviews, you will see that most are over a year old. They don't have the same cook as they have had for the last 20 plus years. We miss you Tim. With that being said the Deli USED to be a great little joint near Wallops Island. Now it seems to me that Greed has befallen our Deli owners Their prices have slowly but surely risen to that of big city food prices. I mean $10 for a club sandwich with fries? For the Shore, that is pricey! Even their subs of which I have had many,they now use a smaller roll and thus less substance Yet their prices still continue to rise. I remember their large chicken salad sub was so big and plentiful that I could be stuffed for lunch,and still have a half for dinner! Now I can easily put same sub down just 2-3 years later, and say, hey what's for dinner. Don't get me wrong some of their food is tasty,their calzones and stromboli are huge as long as you don't mind the $12 dollar price tag! Consistency was key, you didn't mind the 65 cent jump on a salad or sandwich because it was tasty and huge! Now sadly, you never know from one day to the next.Yesterday I tried the crab soup. It was just OK. It was very salty,had a funny color,as most people on the Shore or live near water know,Crab soup is not supposed to be beige! Not to mention Bubble guts after consumption . It saddens me to post so much negativity for you Ocean Deli , but you have brought this on yourself! You do a huge amount of business, get back to basics be consistent in your product,stop raising the prices every six months, and you would be surprised at the result. This evening we stopped for dinner at Ocean Deli. The menu is huge so you need to study it for a while. I had calzone with ham and the cheese my husband had the ribeye steak sandwich, both were very good. We parked in handicap parking and the handicap door when you went up the ramp was locked so we had to walk around to the front, that was the one problem that we had when we arrived. There is quite a lot of seating so we didn't have a problem finding a place to sit it was very cool the air conditioner was working well. The prices are very reasonable. You shouldn't have any trouble at all finding something that you might like. read more

Best casual food establishment on Eastern Shore. Having driven past this restaurant (it really is not a deli, but a real restaurant tucked into a market, complete with formal dining area) for years going to Chincoteague, the quality of the food and diversity of the menu is impressive, including lots of vegetarian and healthy options. The greek salad and dressing was as fresh as could be, and the spanikopita was better than spinach pies I have had in high-end greek restaurants in the DC metro. My parents lived in Atlantic Va and my husband and I would go up there from Va. Beach to care for my Mom and Dad. We would go and get Stromboli for them and a Greek salad for me. Eric goes to the Shore to cut grass every couple of weeks and he brings back aGreek salad for me and he gets the Stromboli for himself.Everything we have ever had from Ocean Deli has been flavorful, fresh and of highest quality! The Stromboli is full of meats, cheese and a nice sauce accompanies it. The Greek salad is loaded with olives, feta, crisp dark greens, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, stuffed grape leaves and a fantastic Greek dressing. He also orders chicken for the salad and it is so great! We love the Mom and Pop feel of the store and appreciate the great food! We were joking the other night if the price of the Bay Bridge Tunnel is worth going to get Ocean Deli food...I assure you it's worth the trip if you have to travel to the Shore. read more

The good: Huge variety and portions. They have pizza, pasta, salad, and sandwiches. There is something for everyone. Unless you want a meal or two's worth of leftovers, go for the smaller option. Food usually comes out reasonably fast. The bad: The food is OK but can be greasy. My "margherita" pizza's grease soaked right through the cardboard it came on. Even Pizza Hut is less greasy than this place. The food might also not be what you imagined. My "margherita" pizza was a regular pizza with tomato slices and what I suspect to be Italian seasoning. What's more hilarious is that mixed greens means mixed lettuces! The ugly: I'm keeping this place in business when I'm in the area for work since it's the closest lunch spot. I consider myself a very reasonable and easy to please guy...with that said, I am very displeased with the kitchen staff. This is just one of several instances I can recall that has accumulated over time. My wife and I ordered the gyros with NO LETTUCE( this was reiterated several times) when we got home with our order and opened it up , lettuce burst through the seams as though it were charged by gunpowder! We were dumbfounded that such a simple request could not be executed on a $9 wrap!..And it was written plain as day on the ticket. Could have been an easy fix except the taziki sauce was mixed in! When we called, whomever answered just defended the cook and talked down to us instead of trying to make it right. Customer service is nonexistent. Needless to say we ate it after scrapping handfuls of soggy lettuce off. Everything on the wrap was processed and cheap. The menu is too large and mediocre at best. They seem to have a pretty good selection of wine in the store though! It's a shame since we're local and there isn't many choices here, but it'll give me more opportunity to sharpen up my cooking skills! read more

My friends, my son and I were looking for a place to get some quick lunch and somehow we made it here. The menu looked good and the people were really very friendly. The service was fast and the food was really good. Adding a personal touch to that service makes a big difference. The hostess gave my son some candy for him and some extra candy for my daughter. We were lost on the Virginia eastern shores and actually turned into a Spirit gas station to get our bearings. We were way past our usual lunch time and saw a sign that said Pizza/Subs/Wraps. I love wraps and my partner loves italian food so we walked in. Very small grocery store/diner but the menu was huge and the employees were friendly. So we decided to try it out. I got the bacon and turkey wrap and my partner got the Lasagna with a side salad. The salad came out quick and was good. My turkey bacon wrap came out next and it was amazing. It was big as well. Then the lasagna came out and it was very good. The portion was huge and we saved 1/2 of it to eat for later. The lasagna you could tell by taste it was not homemade but was still delicious considering we just walked into a gas station/diner. We did read the other reviews and the one about bugs. Well we did see one very friendly small bug who showed up on our table to eat. He was really small and looked like some kind of mosquito. But he was very polite and actually just watched us. I put a small piece of food by him and he dipped his snout into it but didn't like it. Then he flew away. But no we didn't see any big bugs or anything that bad.
