They have very useful high-tech equipment that other "shinier" dental offices don't have... from the penlight camera to the handheld digital x-ray that you can instantly see on the monitor, and the 360-degree digital x-ray that showed an infection I had that would've been missed by a regular x-ray (thanks to Jen for noticing a potential issue while cleaning to recommend that Dr. Chen investigate it further). I also like that I can send a text if I have a dental issue or concern, and Dr. Chen will reply back on what I should do or if I need to come in or not. Although they are not open Fridays or Saturdays, I adjust my work schedule to see them during their office hours...that's how good they are and how much I trust them. Dr. Chen and the team are excellent. I recently had Invisalign treatment - which was very effective with surprisingly only minimal pain - completed the treatment even faster than scheduled. Dr. Chen was thorough with his analysis and reasonable with his recommendations/expectations. He gave clear instructions throughout the process to ensure optimal results. His attention to detail is top notch. Follow up intervals seemed just right to make sure we are on track, and always made sure I had enough supplies. I had some unpleasant past experiences with dental offices before including one nearby that misdiagnosed my fractured molar as TMJ and sent me home. I've been going to Ocean Heights for a few years and I don't feel like I need to look around anymore. Jen the hygienist is the so amazing and gentle. I've had plenty of work done including a dental implant but I did not feel like I was pressured into getting unnecessary treatments. Im so glad i found this place! I'm the kind of person who really dreads going in to see any dentist usually - I put it off until my teeth problems really start to build up. I'm usually scared of things like pain or bad news. But when I finally couldn't put it off any longer, Dr. Chen and his staff saved the day. Not only did he understand my anxiety, but took steps to make sure everything was as painless as possible. As for my dental problems, he walked me through every step, made time to figure out the best plan for care, and communicated everything well so I never felt any concerns about moving forward. The dentist is nice however I'm glad I found a different dentist in the area. I came here for a dental cleaning and was told I need multiple crowns. I didn't come for a little over a year and after return he came into the lobby and asked why I haven't returned sooner which I didn't like. During my second appt I was told I needed 4 crowns and had a cavity. I went to get a second opinion and the new dentist said I will eventually need to crown those teeth but that could be weeks/months/years and not necessary to fill any cavities at the time. This was 3 years ago and haven't had any issue with those teeth. read more

One of my most dreaded childhood fears was going to the dentist. Probably a combination of drinking too much soda and bad dentists. My family couldn't afford braces and as a result I spent most of my childhood avoiding smiling in photos because of my misaligned teeth. As an adult, I'm now taking the time to properly care for my teeth and undoing much of the damage done in my younger years. I've visited numerous dentists as an adult (some better than others) but was never able to decide on a dedicated dentist. Here's where Dr. Steven Kim enters the story. I was referred to Dr. Kim by a few friends who spoke very highly of him. After meeting with him, I was very comfortable with the treatment plan he created for me and I could tell he had my best interest at heart rather than getting paid. My treatments with Dr. Kim included Clear Correct aligners, bleaching, crowns as needed and replacing my old amalgam fillings. He's diligent about his work and very meticulous. I had four crowns made for my front teeth and he sent them back to the lab multiple times until they were perfect. I've been seeing Dr. Kim for a couple years and can happily say he has transformed my smile as well as my attitude about dental care. It's a bit of a drive for me to get to his office, but it's worth the commute in my opinion. Also, the office hygienist (Jennifer) is great. She takes the time to fully explain everything she does during your cleanings and ensures you're super comfortable. I've realized how much having a nice smile has impacted my confidence and feel so much gratitude towards Dr. Kim for giving me the smile I've always wanted. read more

It has been almost two months since I got my teeth fixed here....and I could not be happier. Happy enough to yelp about them.....its been a long time since I wrote on here! I ended up getting some major work done here....4 CROWNS. My teeth were in need of some serious work from some prior problems and new developing microfractures...sigh...the horrors of bad teeth genetics! Anyways, he fixed me up good! My teeth look better than they ever have, as white as I want them and just SO MUCH STRAIGHTER!!! I even had to come back an extra time because Dr. Kim was not satisfied with the way it looked at first. So he had my crowns remodeled to make it look more natural and no one can tell I have crowns...shoot, I can't even tell I have crowns. He is a true perfectionist when it comes to making your smile as beautiful as it could be. As if that wasn't enough...the experience it self was wonderful. 1. Suzanne is the BOMB. She stayed late my first time there to make sure that I was comfortable and to do anything she could to make me feel better. 2. Dr. Kim's shots...they don't hurt. How is that possible!?!?!? 3. Dr. Kim called me a week after my procedure was complete to make sure that I was feeling OK and to see if I needed any adjustments on the crowns. 4. Yes, Dr. Kim talks to you when he's doing his work...but he understands your dentist talk. It's a good skill for a dentist. 5. They set up a payment plan for me, so that I could afford to get the work done that I needed. 6. They listened to what I wanted and were sensitive to it. My teeth are just naturally a little strange, they veer to the left. So Dr. Kim and his team worked to make it as straight as it was while maintaining the integrity of my teeth. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my smile. The first day I had my crowns, my cheeks hurt from smiling so much. I would totally recommend him and his staff any day. The hygienist is GREAT! However, I don't like the way they run their business. Any fees incurred should be discussed prior to service being rendered. Out of the blue I would get an invoice and the office manager, Karen, would explain that it was discussed prior with my husband. At first I was ok, assuming my husband forgot to to tell me and I would pay. Later, I received an invoice for services rendered to me. I called and she gave me the same story. I said no nothing was discussed of any additional charges, she retracted and said it was sent in error. The next time when my husband went in I told him to pay attention and inquire if there would be any additional charges and when I made the appointment I stated specifically that he was there for ONLY a cleaning. Surprise, surprise I get an invoice a month later. I called and Karen once again said we told him that it's a periodontal cleaning...I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that it was discussed with my husband, in which he denied, however all fees should be discussed and paid for prior to service. I have never been to an office in which they didn't tell me the price before hand nor gave me a treatment plan. I think it's fair to say that I've given them enough benefit of the doubt. I will not be returning, which is unfortunate because the hygienist is great. I forgot to mentions that I referred a co-worker there for a cleaning and an examination. After he left he told me that the dr. recommended extensive services, upwards in the 5k range. Which is probably accurate because he needs an implant and crown. However, there was no treatment plan or follow up call providing pricing. Just a range in pricing. Needless to say he did not return and went to another dentist which provided a treatment plan and exact pricing on the same day of examination. Services were scheduled for the following week. read more

As someone who has genetically terrible teeth, I have been to many dentists in my 36 years. I have had some terrible experiences- mostly feeling that awful "zing" of pain mid-drilling (nothing worse than that). Dr. Kim is so gentle and incredibly knowledgeable. He realized very quickly, and before any pain, that my body metabolizes Novocain at a much quicker rate than the average person (if only that was true with pizza and cheeseburgers... sigh). I barely feel the shots of Novocain and he checks in with me regularly to see how I'm feeling. He also is so attuned at reading body language and can tell if I'm feeling uncomfortable at all. He works quickly but he's very thorough. Additionally, Dr. Kim never "shames" me for the work that needs to be done or makes me feel like I'm not working hard enough to keep my teeth healthy. He was shocked when I mentioned this to him, as if this was something that he assumed all dentists would never do, but I have had my fair share of dental shaming in the past ;) Suzanne, the dental hygienist is amazing and they make a great team. Karen at the front takes time to explain costs and answers all my questions with a tremendous amount of patience. I am 100% confident in recommending Dr. Kim and his team to anyone who has any kind of trepidation or anxiety about the dentist. It also doesn't hurt that he's really easy to chat with and has a great sense of humor. He makes me feel so relaxed and at ease. Finally, during this time of sensitivity to germs and cleanliness among the Covid pandemic, the office takes great measures to ensure everything is clean, sterile and that there isn't anyone in too close of a proximity during check in or check out.
