Friendly staff, decent dental work, but major billing fraud issues. For the past 4 years, i realized they had charged me significantly more than my Delta Dental HMO copay. I found 19 instances of overcharges for a total of $3,364.00 that they had overcharged me. I listed all the dates, dental codes, actual copay, and what they had told me my copay was. It was impossible to dispute, so they did pay me all my money back over the course of a couple months. I was never given an explanation for what happened, despite asking. Was my insurance plan somehow entered incorrectly in the system? Shrug... well...um.. maybe.. hard to say, was all i was really offered. The fact that nobody knows why I kept being overcharged is concerning. I was also told several times that some refunds weren't possible because the services were "upgrades". I had to explain to the office manager twice that that's not relevant. I had to remind her that every dental procedure has a code. Every code has a set price on my HMO. It's just that simple. Nothing to calculate. So I did get those services refunded as well since the "upgrade" line didn't make any sense, and couldn't be argued since I actually understood how my insurance worked at this point . I just kept feeling like I was trying to be tricked out of my money with deception and jargon. I really don't appreciate being treated like that. I had been going there every 3 months for the past 10 years. When they would look at their screen and price out different procedures I needed "based on my insurance." I have no idea what they were looking at. It wasn't my actual co-pay, but they couldn't explain it. It seems corrupt. Delta dental confirmed to me that the bills they received from Marina smiles showed they charged me the amount they were supposed to charge me (very different from the bill I'd get) So, they must have been aware of what they were doing. They were always so nice to me. It hurts to know they would look me right in the eye and overcharge me by hundreds of dollars, 19 times. Originally came in for a cleaning and ended up needing a filling for an unexpected cavity, but Dr. Angela Park was able to take care of it right there. She was honest and up front about costs and procedure which I really appreciated. I usually don't love going to the dentist, but this was honestly such a smooth experience. The numbing didn't hurt at all, and everything felt really comfortable and not overly invasive. Dr. Park is very detailed and you can tell she really cares about doing things right while keeping you at ease. Her assistants, Gabs, Nicole, Ashley, and Victor were also all super kind and made the whole visit feel easy. You can tell they all get along. The office is also really clean and has more updated technology than other places I've been to. I left feeling taken care of and more confident about my dental health. This review is long overdue but I believe it's important to share my experience at Marina Smiles. I went in for a normal checkup and was told I had a cavity that needed to be filled. I got it "fixed" that same day. A couple days went by and I had some pain on the tooth. I called to make an appointment but had to wait a week since they were booked. Within that week the pain became worse and I got a massive infection. When I went in they told me the Dr who worked on my tooth left an opening causing more damage than before. BEWARE OF FRAUDULENT INSURANCE CLAIMS AT THIS DENTAL OFFICE! Below is the complete story but the tldr gist of it is they will lie to get you to pay more than necessary and then bill you for more than they submit to insurance. Also, DO NOT PUT YOUR SS# ON THE PAPERWORK!!! In April of 2025 I had an appointment at Marina Smiles Dental to fix a broken crown. After taking x-rays I was greeted by someone that was going to review all of the financial aspects of the visit. She told me that I needed 2 additional procedures and a cleaning. I agreed but told her I couldn't do that all in the same day. She then told me it will be cheaper to do them all at once and if I donated $30 to their water charity she will reduce my bill by $200. While this sounded shady I agreed to do that. She quoted $2400 for everything and I told her I couldn't do that at the time and, unbeknownst to me, she ran my credit to see if I would be eligible for the Smile Generation credit card. When she said I was approved I was dismayed at how she was able to do that and then remembered that my SS# was used as my insurance ID # on the paperwork. THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL!!! Since it seemed to have already been done I figured I had no choice but to accept it. My credit score took a plunge due to this. I was later told that it was a soft inquiry but, at the time, she made it sound like a done deal. She was spouting out so many numbers and listing all of the things I needed to have done it was very confusing and now I know this is a tactic used to confuse people and get them to do what you want. She also told me that I had to get the zirconium crown and there was no other choice, which I later learned was a lie. I had the work done but did not receive a receipt the day of my appointment. I later received the dental claim from my insurance and the filed claim does not match what I was charged. The bill that I got later from Smile Generation was $2400 but the claim sent to my insurance was $1725.10. I asked for an itemized copy of the receipt from Sasha Picard at Marina Smiles and she sent me the estimate, not the actual receipt. She refused to send me anything else and disregarded every attempt to contact her. I was finally able to speak to her several weeks later but she was no help. I have always loved the dentist. Im one of the rare few. Unfortunately when I moved to CA I needed a new dentist and unfortunately my insurance assigned me this one. Not only are the wait times long, but the staff treated me indifferently. It was weird. Like they were trying to get me in and out as fast as possible. They charged me for a deep cleaning but the cleaning I recieved was just a normal cleaning. Ive had deep cleanings before and this wasnt one. The dentist claimed I had ten cavities when in my last dentist visit they told me I had none. They tried to tell me I needed special onlay fillings. I am not a dentist or know anything about the field so I trusted the staff when they told me this. Then a guy came in the room and I can only describe him as a used car salesman with an upside down name tag. He started trying to sign me up for a credit card to go through with all these future proceedures. The amount was over 2000 dollars. I asked him if I could just pay for one filling and deep cleaning today and the next time I come back I will pay for another filling. No credit card needed. I pay as I go. He said okay. Then unbeknownst to me he signed me up for a credit card anyway without my permission. He told me that he was just going to send my info to the website to see if it would be cheaper. I was confused but I said okay. He reassured me that he wasnt signing me up for a credit card. Guess what happened a week after my visit? I got a credit card in the mail. And now my credit score is screwed. I looked at the reviews for this place on yelp and google and I wish I had before I went. This place is fruadulent. BEWARE of Marina Smiles Dentistry, demonstrates everything wrong with system. Regretful I found this dentistry to recommend to loved one based on location and general reviews. Pricing came to be double that of others in region. Dentistry did not conduct review of insurance guidelines thus charged more because insurance coverage not applicable. Insurance confirmed their neglect to review and communicate was beyond sketchy and unexceptable as licensed Dentistry.  Conducted work against Estimate. Collects 100% before work (and future appointments, weeks in advance) without providing option to pay on appointment date when work is going to be complete (explaining they need the money to pay subcontractors).  During part two of root canal, patient expressed still in pain from original infected tooth he went in for which they had yet to acknolwdge through extraction, only antibotics. Root canal dentist confirmed infection was still there yet did not communicate this to team, sending patient on way. Revisiting to acknowledge error Ops Manager, Ray, Champan, said root canal dentist is subcontractor...as if it was our fault we didnt tell right person. Followup communication results in speaking down to you and twisting your words with no answers to questions, just excuses for staff and promises of followup but no delivery. Does not know contact information of their own billing department, or withholding for obvious reasons.  Perhaps you'll have success here if you are expert in Dentisty, Insurance, and use their lingo but if you're not do not expect guidance and only expect to be taken advantage of.  Furthermore treatment plan did not even prioritize the issues of pain thus had to go to Urgent Care as infection spread to body. Lastly, followup to two other dentists confirmed cement was left in the work of Marina Smiles root canal, cotton was left over, crown fell off after just 1 week. I remind you, pricing was double for horrible/damaging quality. To say it was a horrible experience does not captures the pain, lost of money, and loss of time involved. Definitely one of the worst dentist I've been to. I went in because I had tooth pain and they never even looked at the tooth or examine my teeth at all not even looked into my mouth. All they did was take x-rays in the decided a plan that had nothing to do with my pain at all. I needed medication because I had a tooth infection My prior doctor was not in town and I was unable to get a hold of them. This was my HMO plan but prior to a cleaning that was okay and walking in here again I was shocked with what the doctor said. After never looking at my teeth nor testing my teeth for sensitivity or asking where the pain was coming from I am truly shocked how terrible this doctor was. Not only did they refuse to give me antibiotics to make my tooth better but they were going to pull teeth out of my mouth that weren't bothering me for twice as much as I've paid for a doctor to pull a tooth before. I visited Marina Smiles in October due to a cracked molar causing significant pain when chewing. Despite my clear preference to focus on that tooth, Dr. Omar insisted I needed two root canals- one on the cracked tooth's neighbor and another on a tooth on my right side- both of which I insisted, were not bothering me. I received a bit of pushback, but I held firm in declining the root canal on my right side, saying because I wasn't in pain and could chew on that side, I would like to wait to schedule something in the new year after my insurance coverage reset. As for the other tooth on the left side, Dr. Omar insisted that this tooth was actually the one causing issues, not the visibly cracked tooth I felt was causing me pain. She stated that we should focus on this other tooth to solve the issue, as she did not want to over treat the area. Feeling pressured, I reluctantly agreed to trust her judgement. The initial estimate was $9,147 without insurance and $1,675 with my insurance coverage. This included x-rays, cleaning, one root canal, and one crown (break down of charges below). They walked me through the major costs but skimmed over smaller charges, like varnish and an $88 fee for "oral hygiene instructions", (yes, $88 charge for instructing you on how to brush and floss). I ended up paying $850 down and $141.97 monthly, with a total cost of $1,312.90 after my insurance negotiated down some of the charges. The root canal work done by their contracted endodontist was extremely quick, and beside the initial shot for numbing, completely painless. He did great work so I will leave some stars for that. Unfortunately, the cracked tooth I initially sought treatment for still hurts. I maxed out my insurance for the year on a tooth I was gaslit into believing was the issue, and I'm still in pain and unable to chew on my left side. Right before the new year, a piece of the cracked tooth broke off while brushing. I had to wait till my insurance reset, but I have an appointment with a different dental office to address the original problem this week. I am upset because I know this could have been avoided had my concerns been genuinely listened to. I wish I would've trusted my instincts. After 6 years, I'm finally breaking up with Marina Smiles. Pros: I still think highly of my hygienist, Ryan Visico. Unfortunately, the ongoing issues with scheduling, billing and communication outweigh the positives. If you decide to go, double-check every bill and get anything the "office manager" tells you in writing. What they say and what they actually bill your insurance are two totally different numbers. I'm currently disputing charges for X-rays they claimed to have taken but don't have on file - then made me retake, after promising they wouldn't bill my insurance - and still billed insurance anyway. The office is chronically overbooked, so plan on waiting at least an hour past your scheduled appointment. The staff turnover is constant (this office is a revolving door for dentists & hygienists) so it's rare to see the same provider, even if you request someone specific and don't expect them to notify you of any changes before your appointment. I would rather chew on glass than see Dr. Paige Mcdermott again. It's the 1st time in my life (and I'm in my late 30s) that I've gone to a dentist for a yearly cleaning and literally walked out without a clean because I refused to get additional recommended treatments. I just left from my appointment (and anxious because I had to leave my newborn at home) to go get the yearly cleaning as covered by my insurance... the doctor tells me my teeth are okay with no cavities or issues at the moment. Then they want to charge me $900+ for a DEEP CLEANING, which I decline and repeatedly ask for what is covered with my insurance, but the doctor says she can't because that's not her recommendation and will jeopardize her license. Really? I pay for dental so I can get this cleaning and X-rays done every year and I have never felt so pushed. I want to start by saying that all of the work I have had done here seems to be alright. However, the dentists here are constantly recommending procedures that just seem unnecessary. They want to do a root canal for anything and go through an independent contractor so it is always way more expensive. It seemed so bizarre that I wanted to go get a second opinion before letting them work on me. Secondly, I always wait at least an hour before even being seen. Sloppy work by the hygienist in terms of flossing, polishing and applying the varnish. I literally walked out with fluoride paste on my face and lips and have never felt so uncomfortable in my life. It was like the hygienist was trying to go as fast as possible or she really just couldn't care less. I'm honestly confused because I've never walked out of a dentist office and my mouth and teeth feel dirtier than when I came in.... Definitely skip the varnish if you go here but honestly don't go here..... I also had a cavity filled here and dental cleaning. These were both performed by the actual dentist and seemed fine. My only issue was that at past offices when I'm sitting down to have work done the dentist will take fresh tools out of packaging where they've obviously been fully sanitized. However when I walked in all the tools were kind of haphazardly laying around.... Maybe I should have left at that point. I had an emergency root canal last year and the dental office assured me that they would be able to submit the dentist's notes about the emergency nature of the root canal to my insurance and that they would also appeal if any denial, and also assured me that they could win this appeal. Well, just shortly after putting the full $3300 on my card (and a VERY painful root canal), they FIRED their insurance handler in the office. I kept calling in, having to re-tell my story to any random clerk who answered, over and over again explaining that the dentist approved sending their notes re: emergency. They promised to send and sign the Authorization for Representation forms. I continued to receive denials from my insurance company because they would not submit the very simple authorization that they just needed to sign and send. I called again and then they told me they couldn't do anything and referred me to their corporate office in irvine which is very hard to access. I should have had zero out of pocket expense. As I was sitting in the chair, waiting for teeth cleaning, the manager with the aggressiveness of a used car sales man, brought an iPad to the chair and forced me to fill it out to get a credit line to pay for services I did not need. I refused to give my SS # for this forced credit line. The dentist showed up and started telling me that I needed a root canal, gum surgery, that I had a cavity in a tooth where I had a bridge, bridge replacement. ETC. All the procedures they told me totaled in excess of $10,000. They forced me to on the spot schedule deep cleanings every other month. I had a great experience with Carlo last time but this time was really bad because of the new assistant manager Denzel - he tried to charge me $500 out of pocket for an unnecessary red light therapy. At first he said I would owe over $1,000 for a deep clean, and I told him last time it was $70. He came back and said ok it's $580 for a cleaning. Eventually after I asked him a ton of questions I learned really my cleaning only cost $80 and he was trying to get me to pay for red light laser therapy thing that's not even necessary. Once I declined the laser he told me there's actually no time for a cleaning. This was after being there for almost 90mins and driving 45mins to get there and taking work off. I was sent home! I told him our conversation made me uncomfortable and frustrated because he was spitting off numbers and using shorthand quickly and it felt like he was trying to confuse me into agreeing to pay for extra services. He told me it's my doctors fault for not breaking everything down beforehand and he left to have a conversation with her about breaking protocol! The staff feels very pushy, often insisting on treatments they say I "need," and they come across as quite aggressive. I'd like to preface my review by saying I hate the dentist. Always have. I've had extensive dental work since I was a child and although I've always tried to keep up with my routine checkups in adulthood, it was never a pleasant experience. That is....until I found Dr. Omar and CeCe. I found Marina Smiles by accident. I was seeing a dentist in their Bixby Knolls location and then one day I was referred to the Marina office due to an urgent procedure and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. Dr. Omar and CeCe have bedside manner unlike anyone I have ever seen for dental services. I felt comfortable asking questions and accommodations I didn't even know were available to me in dental offices. Dr. Omar suggested headphones during noisy procedures, offered a warm blanket to snuggle up and was consistent in her communication before/during/post procedure. CeCe is the kindest and most considerate dental hygienist I've ever met. She's incredible caring and dedicated to doing a good job. I can't emphasize enough how big of an impact professionals like this make for someone like me. They love their jobs and it shows. They deserve all the raises and bonuses their office can offer. Started seeing this dentistry office this year and I've had a decent experience so far. The check in process is easy and quick. I've only had to wait 15-20 mins before my appointment. The office is also very clean. Dental hygienists are efficient, but sometimes clean a little too aggressively. Super slow added on's to build up bill and X-Ray happy everything requires an X-ray cant wait to find new dentist

I have been with this dental group since 2021 when I moved to the area. I don't love this place, and I've held off on being proactive in finding a new dentist until recently. I have spent thousands on my crowns/root canals/fillings with them, thankfully I had decent PPO insurance to cover most of the costs. However, a few months after I got my last crown and paid for it, the office (Jake) called me to request $300+ more because my "insurance didn't cover the rest of the costs." I felt uncomfortable with this and held off on paying but then I received the notice through collections. I decided to pay it to get it out of the way. This sounds scammy. My coworker, who also goes to this dental office, shared her recent experience with them and the same thing happened to her. She was also very upset and tried to dispute it with the office and insurance company. The insurance company suggested she get a new dentist. She called the office back and they agreed to upfront half her cost. So are these prices negotiable?? Looking back, did I spend $$$$ on procedures I didn't need? read more

I went in try to figure out what caused the pain as a new patient. The diagnosis was nothing really wrong but "possible aging " plus "possibly bone loss". Then the Dr. recommended to have a "deep" clean. The sale came in, the "deep clean" will cost me $650. If I don't want the full package treatment, it could still cost me $200 more since my new insurance only cover basic cleaning. But I just had my teeth clean in Aug, 4-5 months ago! I went in with a pain, went without being treated at the all, but a lot x-ray taken and their sale pitch. I missed my old insurance and the dentist group I had before. It seems going back to see my old dentist out of my pocket will be worthy, because the trust and professional skills have been built and proven. read more

Always trying to upsell you on things you don't need, like X-rays every 6 months - I literally have perfect teeth and no issues. Office staff seems competent but overworked leading to short interactions. Insurance chased me down for "complimentary photos" which indeed were complimentary but were still submitted as a claim somehow which wasted a lot of my time trying to sort out. Switched and haven't looked back. read more

The quality of care here is exceptional. I've had veneers since 2018, a few crowns now and had 0 issues since.The staff here is honest, kind and forthcoming about dental work in relation to dental health .If going to the dentist scares you, I promise your fears will end here .
