I don't usually write negative reviews because I prefer to highlight positive experiences, but what we encountered at Ocean Lanes Bowling Alley was extremely disappointing. My family was visiting from Tennessee, and we brought all of our kids (including a 6-year-old) to bowl around 10 AM. When we arrived, we were told that all refillable water bottles had to be left in the car, which we understood might be due to their policy on outside beverages. However, the situation escalated after we finished bowling and went to order food. Before ordering, my cousin politely asked if her 6-year-old son could have a cup of tap water because he was thirsty. The woman at the snack counter refused and then asked if he was part of a disabled children's group that was present. When my cousin said no, she dismissed her request entirely. This was very concerning. A child was denied a basic cup of water, after we had already been required to leave our own water bottles outside. We ended up spending well over $100 there, including food, yet something as simple as tap water was refused. I later called to ask about this, and was told that "disabled children need water to take their medications." That response was even more troubling. No one asked about the child's needs or medical history (not that we should even have to disclose this), and access to water should not be conditional--especially for a young child. This experience felt unprofessional, dismissive, and frankly unacceptable. Denying a child water under these circumstances is not okay. read more

It's clean and has lanes which bumper come up automatically for kids open bowling starts at 3:00 before that they have leagues

We came in on a Saturday night. Went to order stuff off the menu they have listed above the bar. So I ordered a bar pie. The cook told me they don't do pizzas. How do you not do pizzas on a Saturday but will cook a burger, cheesesteak and pork roll and egg and cheese, but no pizzas? Mind you there was a pizza sitting there which was a personal pizza, that he claimed was reserved for a party coming in. I'm not sure what party will be full off a personal pie but okay. My friends remained at the kitchen waiting for their food and the cook goes "we all can't get what we want." While we sat there and bowled we watch him bring two pizzas over to these two people sitting at the bar. Then I went to order drinks at the bar and the bartender asked the cook if he could cook up two pizzas for her and her daughter and he said yes. Normally wouldn't care but the smirk ass nasty attitude and comment from the cook made me feel like I should let everyone know how rude this place is. Oh and they are only cash bar and cash for food. Haven't been here for a couple years. Usually go to other local lanes. Went back and am thoroughly impressed. Went Saturday afternoon. Renovated. Clean shoes Open/available , clean lanes Clean kitchen, properly cooked hamburger and perfect fries. Not to expensive. Have a full bar, clean, with large LCD's . 4.50 a person per game and 2 for shoes. Definitely will be back often. read more

I was there a few weeks ago. Every time i went to get a drink at the bar i was told the bartender Joyce was on her smoke break. Then whenever I ordered something she gave me a nasty tone of voice and looked annoyed. This women obviously hates her job. read more

Hands down the worst bowling alley I've been too. Bartender called me racist slurs all because I asked for two beers. Bathrooms had mold and feces on the ceilings and floors. No wait, easy to get to from the shore, good prices, automatic kid bumpers and clean shoes - what more can you ask for? Oh yeah, good food and a nice bar but I guess we were there to bowl and not eat and hang out :) I went there yesterday with my whole family (9 of us) as it was raining at the shore and we had a fantastic time. My two Nieces had a blast bowling for the first time and it was so convenient to have the automatic bumpers (they come up when the flagged bowler's name comes up). The shoes were all nice and new and clean and there were plenty of bowling balls to choose from. My only complaint was that the computerized score machine at one of our lanes wasn't working properly - it kept either skipping a turn or not counting a turn for a couple of the players. Perhaps it was just that one lane (16 if you want to avoid it). I'll definitely be going back next time I'm at the jersey shore and it's raining. read more

first off I just wanna say the people behind the counter don't care they are rude to you and they have Jews in there alot and are taking up the alley and annoying and getting in ways of my bowling. they Are really strict to when you bring in in outside drinks even when you can't really get drinks your self and it's from the bar when it was closed during covid reasons or stuff. Seven of us decided to go bowling with Ocean Lanes; we paid $5.50 for each game including the shoes which us clean, not bad at all. the place was empty with tons of lanes in great condition, also it was super easy to set up the game unlike other bowling alleys I have been to. BUT, there was a jerk at the counter that was out right rude to us and kept on giving attitude! We had fun, but next time I will go try different bowling alleys that apreciate my business. read more

Horrible experience!! Came with young family to get out a bit and for them to have a good time and bowl. My baby who is two years old had a mask but because of her pacifier had a difficult time breathing with it. The nasty woman at the front desk yelled at me threatened to call the police and made me leave and wait outside in 90 degree weather I am in my ninth month -all because a baby who is not even required to wear a mask kept putting it on and off. read more

Horrible experience ! So I go to the bar... I ask for three drinks.. The "bartender" tells me I need three different ids... Okay I go back to my friends get their ids and go back to the bar and she tells me we only take cash.. Okay I go back and get cash from the ATM... Then I go back and she tells me all my friends need to be visible at the bar to get a drink.. So I tell her okay here's my id just let me get a coors light.. Now as a bartender its your job to ask the customer bottle or draft... So she took out a bottled coors light and I say excuse me mam but can I get a Draft... Mind you she hadent even opened the bottle.. So she comments and says "next time say you want it draft" I was shocked but didn't say anything about it.. After she took my money can't "threw" my change back at me.. I told her she shouldn't be so rude to the ppl that pay her bills.. Moral of the story the old short white lady was the rudest employee EVER ! And after I mentioned this situation to the "manager" they basically told me that's not their problem... I'm from nyc and I thought us New Yorkers was rude.. But after this I would of been treated better in nyc then here in jersey... NEVER AGAIN ! Cleanest family friendly bowling alley I've ever been to! Entirely updated & new. Would definitely recommend.

I been here for the first time with my friend. My first impressions........ nice bowling lanes, the cashier was rude but at the bar we found them to be more friendly, and we would of enjoyed more games possibly a full game room would of been nice with various games. We found the layout awkward with the a few games against the wall across from the lanes and the car games around on the other side. I suggest a game room. The older bartender was extremely rude... My boyfriend and I go there with out friends to celebrate a birthday.. so of course we buy his drinks we order 4 green tea shots and she tells us we need for IDs we go back with 4 IDs and then she says they need to be present at the bar we respectfully say okay and just order two drinks for ourselves at this point... she then continues to bring us the wrong drinks. 20 minutes go buy and my boyfriend goes up to get another drink she denies him claiming that she just served us understanding he walks away and says okay after she continues to be extremely rude to us. I then wait another 30 and go back up to the bar to see her closing the bar... I ask if there is anyway I could possibly get one before she closes and she then continues to go OFF on me pointing in my face claiming that my boyfriend was rude to her and put his HAND up at her and thats why "she was closing" which was absolutely not true so I calmly walk away and we continue with our night and she honestly just probably wanted to go home. As a bartender myself I was APPAULD with her service as I have never in MY LIFE had such a bad experience with someone in the bartending industry. The people at the desk were wonderful & accommodating . The place is the cleanest bowling establishment I have ever been to. This venue would be great, but there is a terrible employee named Donna who ruined my experience. Every time I go, she treats me disrespectfully. This last time, she tried to publicly humiliate me because I forgot to put on my shoes. My friends agree - every time they go, her scowls and rude remarks are a big turn-off. Well i'm not too sure about this one. I decided that this would be a fun date. Recently, i was a customer at Ocean Lanes and from the second i stepped out of the car, my ears were greeted by a staff member outside on his cell phone screaming profanities at whomever was on the other line. Not the worst thing that could happen but needless to say a little offputing. Then we entered the establishment and could tell the lack of attention to cleanliness. Now trust me, i understand that it is a bowling alley, however it was far from clean, The wait for a lane was leingthy and the person behind the counter was; for a lack of better words, rude. What a disgusting place. The receptionist was the worst part her name is Donna. What a witch I was having a bday party for my kids and they could not set up fast enough and get everyone off the lanes so that cut half an hour out of our time. When my child said her shoes were too tight to Donna she told her to grow up and started evils laughing at her.thag wasn't even the worst part they said the party would be 550 for everyone but some how it cost me 660. I would give this a zero if the place wasn't so clean and lanes weren't so nice. The reason is their lazy staff! First, we walked in the front desk guy on his phone texting. Great first impression. Should of walked out right then. That's a hint of the kind of service we were about to get. Tried to go to the food bar to order some drinks for the kids and no one was behind the counter so I went to the bar area where there we 3 employees chilling and stared at me without saying a word. Finally I asked if they could call someone to the snack bar, and after pulling herself up from her iPad she finally said I think he left. Not one of them ask if they could help. I just wanted a drink. So, I went to the front desk guy and asked for the manager, thinking he'd help me or at least ask if he could. Nope, disappointed again. He said I "think" he left cause we are slow. You "think"? Wth, you just let you staff go home whenever they feel like it? They don't have to ask you? Would it have been too much to ask if we needed anything before he left? We had a party of 7 too. You'd think they would have said something. Funny thing is that there were others bowling too. Lazy! I asked for the owners contact information and he said I had to call the ally to get it. Smh! Never again. Bad service. Bad management. Now I know why they are not so busy. read more

Please do not throw your child's birthday party here! They booked me for one time and told me another, causing all my guests to show up early. They even admitted to me that they made a mistake! My guests had to leave and come back. They supposedly gave us extra time as compensation but by the time I managed to track all my guests down, got our shoes and got to the lanes, it was the booked time anyways. Then they cut our lanes off at the exact time the booking was scheduled to end. Where is my free time??? The hostess was overbooked and I ended up doing most of the serving myself. The owner's response is that my party threw off the rotation. How? My bowling time ended at the exact time it was supposed to, since you cut off our lanes, therefore we were at the table at the exact time we were erroneously scheduled in your book to be at the table. They gave us extra passes to come back but I know that I don't want to and most of the other parents have the same opinion. I asked the owner/manager how come he doesn't have an assistant manager there on Sundays to make decisions and take care of situations like this and his answer is that he can't have his employees running around "willy nilly". Excuse me, the standard business model has someone there to act in place of the manager when he is not available. They are chosen and trained for this purpose. At least make yourself available by phone if you have this attitude, but he does not do this. He says he is reachable at the end of the day. This whole party had me embarrassed and their customer service is horrible. They are disorganized and multiple employees had a bad attitude. Save yourself a headache! Go somewhere else!
