It was my first time going to Ocean Park Optometry to get an eye exam and new frames, and I could not have been more satisfied with my experience there. The office is pristine, and in these times of COVID-19, I liked that they limit the number of people who can be in the store at one time. You can only get in if you have an appointment. This office uses more advanced technology than my previous optometrist did. Dr. Ito is very competent at her job, and as a nerd, I appreciated that she gave me a detailed explanation of my vision problems. The customer service deserves an A++! The woman who sold me the frames and lenses - Louiza - is a gem. She was attentive to my concerns, took the time to explain what my options were, and help me select the best one based on my budget. She was also very patient with me, as I had to go back there multiple times to adjust my glasses. Note that there is a one-year warranty on frames and lenses. I've been going to Albertson's, the Dry Cleaner, the UPS Store and the Nail Salon for years and didn't realize what a gem Visionworks is. I'm new to glasses so I thought I'd try it out. When you walk inside you're transported into a modern and professional eyeglass store and doctor's office. They have a great selection of designer frames (Tom Ford, Prada, RayBan etc), but the best part is the service. Dr. Ito is great and really takes her time to do extensive tests and explain everything to you about your vision. They are using the latest technology. Also, Antwanett sat with me for a long time and helped me figure out pricing with my insurance and answered all of my questions. I would highly recommend this Optometrist to anyone. I woke up the road from you guys I came in to get my glasses fixed and I've been there before you guys helped me before but this time when I came in and I told the person behind the counter she says there's a $5 for small screw bad thing is I cannot function without my glasses but that's okay also due for a checkup take a new prescription and visit an optometrist I guess I have to take my business someplace else and go see another optometrist I had to get a new prescription glasses. I have been a patient of Dr. Ito for quite a few years. She and her staff are simply the best. During this stressful COVID time, the office is pristine. They space out appointments so that social distancing is more than easy to achieve, they offer hand sanitizer upon arrival and when departing. I found Ocean Park Optometry through my insurance portal and called them the day of to inquire about making an appointment. The representative was very friendly and accommodated my work schedule to make sure I was able to visit with Dr. Ito. When I did arrive, the front desk was friendly and I spent some time filling out forms. Soon after, I was called over to do an initial eye exam (they have really nice new technology!), then I met with Dr. Ito. She took the time to discuss the issues with my eyes and recommend the best lenses. After, I was able to select a frame and I did not feel forced to purchase one on the day of (I did!). The glasses I use are prescription and I kept saying that I am very happy with them. The glasses you made have too much magnification and for some reason when I put them on and within 1 minute looking at my computer the screen which is rectangular starts to distort and make me feel disoriented. I feel evey time I tried to explain the problem no one was listening and just wanted to give excuses that just didn't make any sense to me. Again it shows because you are misinformed. You never made any new lenses to match the ones I liked. I don't know why you don't admit it that your prescription is wrong and give me another eye exam. The customer is always right. You got my insurance money, thank you for returning my out of pocket. I now have to wait another year before my insurance will cover eye care. read more

I originally found Dr. Sarah Ito's practice well over 10 years ago. I was pleased at the time with the services, but took a recommendation from a family member to try another optometrist in recent years. I did, however, I soon realized that I had made a terrible mistake. When I had the need to renew my prescription I made an appt. here and the moment I walked in I felt a great sense of relief and familiarity. The atmosphere is even better than I remember and the new remodeling is beautiful. Every staff member is friendly, open and helpful. I came here based on the location, Saturday hours, my insurance coverage, and the glowing Yelp reviews. And honestly, I wish that I had the same wonderful experience that the rest of these reviewers had, but instead, I had several poor interactions with the staff here that lowered my star rating more and more to the point that I would advise my friends and colleagues to avoid them. I've been wearing glasses for the past 15 years and contacts for the past 12. I never had a major problem getting new glasses or contacts at my old optometrist (in NY), so this was a wake-up call to bad business. I first visited Visionworks in January 2012 and scheduled vision & contact exams for both myself and my husband. We made 2 back-to-back afternoon appointments a few days out. We showed up about 15 minutes early for our appointment and had to get our picture taken for their records and fill out some paperwork. We were told that they were running late & to read a magazine while we were waiting. This, instead of having an optician help us find a suitable pair of frames. Let's recap: we knew we'd need glasses as we both have fairly strong prescriptions. But the front desk staff insisted that they'd help us after the exam. I was the first exam, and was seen by the doctor about 45 min- 1 hour later than my scheduled appointment. The eye exam consisted of a ton of high-tech machines, but very little face time with the doctor. It was as if she had my prescription based on those tests and was just fine-tuning it. She also changed my contact lens brand from a two-week disposable (because it supposedly didn't allow enough oxygen in) to a monthly disposable. I asked for other options and the only other one she offered was dailies, which are cost-prohibitive. I opted for the monthlies, despite wanting a two-week disposable. The contacts here were still far more expensive than lens.com or any other online source, despite any rebate offers they may have. When it came to selecting frames, by the time they finished our exam, the staff told us that they were closing and we had to return another day. Um, WTF? Why didn't you help us earlier when you were all just sitting around? Strike one. At this point I also asked the optician about pupillary distance (PD) as I was considering ordering a Warby Parker "fun" pair in addition to practical frames. The optician said that although they took my PD they would not release it to me without getting paid $25. After a week my prescription was causing headaches and so I called the office. Whomever answered the phone told me to come in to see Dr. Ito again. I asked to make an appointment, but they said it was unnecessary. I showed up that Saturday and they said that (yet again) Dr. Ito was running behind and I need to make an appointment for another day. Yes, you heard that right. I was really pissed and said I could wait, but they would not oblige and after they (not me) talked to Dr. Ito, they gave me a sample pair in my old prescription and scheduled an appointment for the following week. Strike two. The following week I saw Dr. Ito and had my prescription changed (after waiting 1 hour). Still no time for frames. But at least after 2 weeks in discomfort I had a prescription that worked. Fast forward a couple of months and my contacts are getting cloudy only 2 weeks into the monthly transition. They were also irritating my eyes. I called Dr. Ito's office and spoke to yet another staff member who took my contact information and said she'd call me back with a solution. Never called back. The following day I call again. This time the staff says that she spoke to Dr. Ito and that I could go back to my old lens brand, even though at my exam she said that those lenses were bad and did not have enough oxygen going through. I mentioned this and she says that if I want another 2-week brand, I need another exam and they're going to charge me. So even though I asked specifically about 2-week lenses at my exam, I didn't get that option, and wouldn't unless I paid once again. At this point I decided that I would not give Visionworks another cent. Strike three. Since my contacts weren't working, I desperately needed to order new glasses and called Visionworks to get my PD measurement in addition to my prescription. They claimed to not have taken my PD, despite saying they did on the day of my appointment in January. When I went to a (better) optometrist in Santa Monica to order frames, they re-took my PD and sure enough it was a machine I used back in January. So either they lost it or chose not to be helpful. At least I found a much better place to go to now. I'm so disappointed with the staff here. I can't even say much about Dr. Ito because she delegates so much of the work to the staff, so I barely had any opportunities to see her, but my interactions with her were "meh" too. The staff was unresponsive, unhelpful, and overall, rude. read more

I have never been flat out lied to by a business as much as i have been by Visionworks. Here are the facts: 6/23/15 I had eye exam. No need yet for contacts or glasses, just simple pair of reading glasses. I am told they will be ready in about a week. On 7/8/15 i call, speak to antoinette, and ask why my reading glasses arent ready. She says they arent finished yet by the lab because the lab is running behind due to july fourth. I call back on 7/15/15, speak again with antoinette, who again tells me that they arent back yet from lab. Since it is over three weeks, i ask her to look into it and get back to me (she never does). I call back again on 7/22/15 and have identical conversation, this time with ruben (glasses are at lab, etc). This all makes no sense - and no one ever called to explain why it was taking a month - so i called my insurance to have them investigate. They called visionworks and were told the exact same thing by antoinette that she had told me. My insurance then called the lab, and the lab told them whole different story: they hadnt been sent the order until 7/17/15, they completed the order 7/19/15 and shipped them and they were received 7/21/15... Which means that they were actually there when my insurance and i both called on 7/22/15. I went to pick up my bought and paid for glasses on 7/25/15, a saturday. Their hours are 930-330 on saturdays but apparently they decided to go on vacation that day and arbitrarily closed the office. They do have customers email and text info so they could have notified customers to avoid inconvenience (and if you are familiar with westside traffic you know it is a major inconvenience). Without a doubt this is the most inept, unprofessional, business service I have ever experienced in my life. If you like being lied to by a bunch of spin doctors and waiting over a month for your eyewear at a business that may or may not be open during their posted business hours this is the place for you! read more

I'm secretly blind as a bat. Okay, okay, not that bad, but I am known to run straight into things during the brief moments of the day when I'm not wearing my contacts or glasses (and sometimes, when I'm totally out of it, both at the same time!). The only thing I can accomplish sans eye-wear is feeding my cat first thing in the morning, only because he tries to suffocate me if I don't fill his bowl at 7 AM on the dot. After that, it's on with the glasses for morning routine, then contacts for work and fun and whatever, then back to glasses for reading in bed. To sum - my eyes are tired. I knew my prescription was weak and my old run-of-the-mill Acuvues were not cutting it and my glasses were off-kilter and too small and thus never got worn outside the confines of my home. And sometime last month I suddenly realized, uh, DUH, Kate, you have like a totally rockin' vision plan at work. Get thee to an optometrist and fix this. My old optometrist died in a fiery car crash on the 215 in Las Vegas, and his office subsequently set up what can best be described as an altar/memorial to him in the middle of the shop. No, seriously - it involves a large picture of him and a constantly burning candle. My mother cries every time she goes there. It's pretty damn bad. That's why I haven't had my eyes checked in like three years. There's just something wrong with trying on different pairs of glasses with the good doc staring back at you, imploring you to drive safe (I kid because I care). So a trip to a brand-new optometrist made sense, as it also made sense to find one Los Angeles, as I think we can all deal with the fact that I live here now (despite my parents' ongoing offers of cash to move back to Vegas with them). I found VisionWorks through my vision plan, cross-checked them with the old Yelp-a-rooni, and it turned into a one-two punch of fantastic internet research. VisionWorks is populated by some of the nicest, most professional people I've ever run across in the medical field. Kind, courteous, quick. They even called me two weeks before my appointment to see if I wanted to come in earlier, as one of their coveted Saturday spots had opened up. They even understood when I cancelled last minute because I "had to go to work" (read: was so hungover I almost vomited on the phone with them). Dr. Ito is great - she knows her stuff and makes exams a breeze. She set me up with a trial pair of Acuvue Oasys that proved how great they were by enduring a marathon wearing - 36 hours. I picked out a new pair of Fendi frames with ease (these should fit and see the light of day). My prescription was updated, my part of the bill was settled, and I was out of there in LESS THAN HALF AN HOUR. You can't ask for much more. read more

Been going to OPO before Dr. Ito bought the place from the previous optometrists. She has the latest equipment, and since about 5 yrs ago has upgraded her selection of frames considerably. We like that Dr. Ito explains things and why they do the tests they do. She also tries to make sure her staff are well-trained, professional and polite. For older patients, the retina scans (usually NOT covered by insurance) are valuable b.c. as you age you need to be on top of degenerative conditions that cause glacoma and other forms of blindness. Meanwhile am sorry to read/hear about the negative reviews posted, and hope that Dr. Ito and her staff reply to these concerns. read more

Wow the reviews for Dr. Ito are all over the place so thought I'd mention my experience, several years ago. This practice was previously owned by Dr. Kummer, who did a great job on contacts for me for many years. I am a gas permeable wearer. When he left, I tried her. She thought she could put me in a soft lens, and I said, great. After six visits, we were not even close to my being able to see anything. I asked for refund and was told no. Obviously, I did not go back. Recently, went to Costco and the doctor there (NOT Dr. Nishida, young woman who strikes me as being very good) thought she could fit me in a soft, and after doing a refraction for eyeglasses, said she could put a pair of softs on me right then to check. Wham bam, we immediately learned I can see almost nothing out of soft lenses. Probably an eye irregularity, she said. So the Costco doctor knew immediately to not bother with trying soft lenses; Dr. Ito had me come back half a dozen times, not refund my money, and I had to start up again with a better optometrist.
