After my oldest and dearest friend suffered a miscarriage I wanted to make her something special to know that I am there for her. I chose to do that by making the two of us "adult friendship bracelets". I prefer to support small businesses so I stopped by this small bead shop to get what I needed. Everything started out fine, I chose to make bracelets with the message "best friends, partners in crime, sisters at heart". It was a personal message that I knew she would appreciate. I took the tray they handed me and started making my message using tiny letter beads. I asked the woman in the store if they had more of a certain letter because they didn't have enough to make my message twice, for each bracelet. The store owner looked for more letters but said she was out, thats fine I understand. The problem was she came over and read the message allowed and said "Well you sound like you have an interesting family". Understanding she did not know the situation I thought her comment was very rude regardless. It was personal, and even if she didn't get it the comment was unnecessary. I thought you know what, I can go to micheals and pay half the price and not have someone judging me based on my personal situation. I quietly put all 40 beads back in their corresponding letter containers and walked out. Won't be back just based on the judgment that came from the owner. Stopped in here because my friend makes a lot of jewelry and recommended them. I was looking for a certain clasp so she could re-work a bracelet for me. Since I don't know much about the different metals and fasteners I had a few questions. Also, I live close to downtown and it was very convenient and I like to shop local. When I went in, one sales person or owner was helping a customer and another was making jewelry with a different customer. I looked around the store for a good 10 minutes and was never acknowledged, even when one of the customers had left. When I finally walked out, both sales people were then making jewelry. I never spoke up because it wasn't urgent and they're not the only game in north county. I'll just take my business somewhere else or order on-line. read more

I came into the shop because I needed to have some beads re-strung. I specifically told them that is was not a bracelet and needed to hang over my rear view mirror. They suggested I get a clasp rather than a flexible string. I agreed. When I went to pick up the beads, there was no clasp and I was told by the woman that I had told them that it was a bracelet that needed to have a flexible string- the EXACT opposite of what we agreed to. When I asked if they would restring beads if they did not fit over the mirror. The woman was VERY rude to me and told me it would be another $30.00 to do the beads over (even though it was THEIR mistake). The original price was $5.00. That woman was defensive, hostile , argumentative and RUDE. Fortuneately, the beads fit (lucky) because I will never go there again. There is no excuse the rudeness and bad attitude of this woman- who not only got my order wrong but then tried to blame me. The mn was okay but too many mistakes and no apology does not work for me. HORRIBLE attitude- the woman complained our entire interaction about how hard it was to restring. read more

Let me just tell you about this ADORABLE place, that employs the MOST ADORABLE people!!! I'm here in Carlsbad getting certified to teach yoga. One of our projects is to make a Mala. It's a necklace that has 109 beads so that you can say a positive Affirmation to yourself 109 times (I am...). Since I am, what some people might say, a bit of a Utah Ute fan. I just HAD to make one that is all RED My guru told me about this place. I came and fell in LOVE, with the beads, the selection, the prices, everything was the BEST!!! But I mostly fell in love with the adorable man that sat behind the counter and helped me so much. He was the BEST EVER!!! I may have gone back once or twice (possibly more) to make more Malas, and to see my new BFF The service was impeccable. I HIGHLY recommend visiting this place. Me and my older cousin went in to ocean sky beads to get some beads to make necklaces and bracelets when we walked in the older lady was snobby but the gentleman was polite when we went to go pay she charged us $90 for $45 worth of beads when we where up there she said " I accidentally over charged you for this item"and she threw on free item witch we already bought for what she over charged us for upset we took out some our items and she asked how much we where willing to purchase and we replied to $35-$42 dollars and she charged exactly maximum amount we could pay read more

I was looking for a ready-made beaded necklace for one of my friends and stopped in Ocean Sky Beads. Everyone was very friendly and there was quite a selection of ready-made jewelry. I wanted a leather cord for a turquoise pendant I received for my eighth grade graduation (wayyy back in 1976!) I found Ocean Sky Beads online and called to find out if they had what I wanted. I was told they could make the necklace to my specifications. At the store, when I told the shop girl what I needed, she asked how long I wanted it. She cut the length of leather and then the shop owner took over and put the clasps on. When I got it home, the necklace measured an inch longer than I had specified. I wanted it a specific length to go with other necklaces I was planning to wear it with. So I had to go back to the store, hoping to have it altered. When the woman helping me started to look up how much the new part of the clasp was going to cost, I asked if they were going to charge me for it even though it was a mistake on the store's part. She said she would check with the owner. He said, "Yes," that I would have to pay for their mistake. What?! They apparently don't know what they're doing. Obviously the clasp is going to make the necklace longer, so they should take that into consideration and measure to make sure the customer is getting the exact length they want. I wouldn't go back, and they clearly couldn't care less. read more

I absolutely love this shop! I live in Huntington Beach and will often drive down to Carlsbad specifically to patron this business. Their products are the most unique that I've found anywhere near where I live. The staff, whom I think is mostly family, is always helpful and polite. I called today for something very specific and I believe I spoke with the shop owner, who went above and beyond to help me with what I needed. Also, they have a stamp card system and if you spend so much you get a$25 credit, which I earned and redeemed at my last visit! What a sweet little gem in a sweet little town. read more

I love love love this place! It is by far my favorite bead shop! Whenever I am having trouble finding something specific I am looking for, Ocean Sky always has it. For a very reasonable price too! I can never seem to get out of there as fast as I intend to because there are just too many goodies. I could literally spend all day in there. I also love that they have a rewards program, not many places do that anymore. Every time I'm in I have to look through the $1 bead strand pile. I have def found some gems in there! The owners are a sweet couple and their lovely daughter. Always very kind and knowledgable. I once bought the rest of these adorable little hand cuff charms and I let the owner know when I checked out. Next time I was in, they already had re stocked them! I could go on and on all day about why I love this place, but I think I got my point across. It bothers me that people have given them one star because they weren't offered help goodness, if you would like help just ask! I love this store and the owners, Rod, Dee & Melinda! They are just like family. I've been beading for a couple of years and when I first met them, I was recovering from shoulder surgery. Take the time to read this! I'm sickened at the customer service due to an accusation of shoplifting. I really don't wish to waste anymore of my time on this store than I already have today, but I desire to attempt to restore some of my daughter's honor. If you're a parent, you'll understand. While out for a family day, my wife, two teenage daughters (11 and 13), 4-year old son who is wheelchair bound, and my mother-in-law stopped in to Ocean Sky Beads. All was going well until my wife and daughters noticed that one of the customers was staring to the point that he was making them feel uncomfortable. My daughters felt so uncomfortable from his staring and following them around that they headed outside the shop. The man, still inside the store, continued to stare and watch them, moving from window to window. My wife asked him if he was watching our girls to which he said yes. She asked if she could help him, to which he responded, "I don't know yet." My wife asked, "Are they doing something wrong?" He said, "I don't know yet." He then turned to the owner and suggested that she count the bracelets. She flipped up her arms in an agitated manner and said, "I can't watch everything." My wife asked the man, "Do you think that they stole something?" He responded, "I don't know yet." My wife said, "My girls would never do anything like that." He looked at her with a half-smile and turned to stare at our girls again. My wife proceeded outside the store to ask the girls to come in, after whispering to her mother that our girls were being accused of shoplifting. This "friend" of the owner had made an accusation of shoplifting against my teenage daughter who has a broken collarbone and is in an arm sling. She brought the girls directly into the store (without the girls knowing what was happening) and asked the owner if she wanted to see inside the sling and the owner said yes and the pockets too. My wife and I felt broken hearted as my daughter's eyes welled up with tears. Of course nothing turned up. I told the owner that I can go to the Better Business Bureau with false accusations of shoplifting to which she responded, "O.k." She didn't apologize to me or my daughter who, as a volunteer with "Hands Of Hope" and programs helping kids with special needs, was now mortified and deeply hurt at the accusation to the point that she no longer wanted to wear her brace for the rest of the day shopping (even if it meant that she would have to be in pain without the support of the brace). My mother-in-law asked for a refund for all items that she had just purchased and my wife said that we will never shop here again. The owner was cold, put out, and the few words that were said were not heartfelt. The apology that was attempted was so curt that it was better left unsaid. read more
