For the most part I like going to the Ocean State in Derry, NH. However, most recently I encountered a very rude customer service cashier named "Amanda" without going into great detail let's just say if you don't like your job then you shouldn't be there. I rated it a 1 because of the poor service. read more

We went and checked out the new Ocean State Job Lot here in Derry and glad we did!! It is a great variety discount store!! Full of discounts and deals! Much bigger and better than the Newport, NH and St Johnsbury, VT stores. Homegoods, Home & Garden, Specialty foods, clothing, automototive, seasonal and more, we found some good deals!! Be cautious, however, as they can trick you if you do not know they going rate of some items!!! Prices are very fair to good here. Again some items are the same price as the competitors. Housed in the old Derry Wal-Mart, OSJL takes up half the old space. Be courious to know what will go in the remaining space. read more

Extremely friendly, helpful, hardworking staff - no doubt about it. I would just like to add this is probably a good place to go for household needs (gardening, patio, pool, cleaning, batteries, etc.), random cell phone cords, or whatever. Besides that, there is some bizarre odor at each OSJL store that makes it difficult to be in the store. If you are not sensitive to this, I say go for it! The company does amazing things for the community and veterans & now Ukraine. You can donate to whichever cause at checkout. read more

Just drop me off and leave me here for an hour or two! What a difference between this store and the one in Newington/Portsmouth we usually shop at. That one now officially qualifies as a dump in comparison. This location in Derry is significantly bigger (with the ghost of Walmart everywhere), better selection of merchandise, cleaner, brighter and well organized. The staff even seemed more cheerful. Hubby got some nice new cotton golf shirts for $5, and one Cutter & Buck golf shirt for $10. I found a new 5'x7' carpet for the computer room for $50 and more organic fertilizer to use on next year's garden. And several other miscellaneous items. We had a well stocked buggy by the time we made our way to the cashier. Can we go back tomorrow, Dearest? I'm sure there's something I missed. ;) read more

I do like this store as they have alot of great deals BUT their customer service is horrible. I went 2 days in a row and both days they only had 2 registers open AND every person in front of me had an issue with item pricing I waited 20 minutes in line BOTH days. The last time I went, there was a HORRID smell coming from in the front. I could smell it before even getting near the doors. I walked in, looked at the cashier who discreetly pointed to the large bin of potatoes. It reeked SO bad. After walking through the store and doing my shopping, I come up front expecting that by than the manager would have had it pulled. Nope. The poor cashier was dying. Her nose was running like crazy. I'm not normally one to speak up, but I called the manager over and nicely pointed out that really smells. He replied, "It's probably just a bad on at the bottom" with no intent to get rid of it what so ever or any care for the staff up front having to smell it. My nose was completely running by the time I left as well it was that bad. Last time I'm ever going there. read more

I love shopping at this store, though I generally hate to store shop (I'm typically an online shopper). I've gotten lots of good bargains and hard to find items here. I could spend hours just searching the aisles, as they are jam packed with goodies. This store is clean and the people are helpful. I'm very impressed. read more

So today January 4 2016 I go into this store and while looking around I see a sign for a 10' x 20' canopy priced at $129 right next to the sign is another sign that states when you purchase this canopy for $129 you will get a $50 gift card to the store as a "crazy deal". So I bring this heavy canopy to the register and they say there is no deal. A manager comes over to look and can't figure it out so a what seemed to be a higher up manager comes over and he says we that deal must be old and says he can give me a $10 discount. What I don't understand is if something is posted and marked with a sale incentive how can an establishment just ignore everything about the sale. To me I would see that as false advertisement because they have this product posted with a deal then when you get to the register they just charge you whatever they feel like charging you... read more

I found jars of coconut oil here for $6 a jar, $5 less than what they cost in the supermarket. I love the entire aisle dedicated to Red Mill products, I hope this never changes. They also carry so many cookbooks, which is great. If you are planning a camping trip, this place has everything, including a large selection of camping chairs. This particular location has a bit of an ikea effect on me and my husband..we spend half our time there looking for each other. I've never actually bought kitchenware here, but this is one of the only store of its kind where you can actually find matching sets if you wanted a running theme (unlike places like big lots, where nothing ever matches) read more

The prices are good..but the selection is average. You can tell some of the stuff is junk, but if you look hard enough, you can find some deals. It is definitely worth a trip and I did get a good price on some beach chairs and umbrella. Not sure if the selection is the same at every location. It is a good location and easy to park. If you have spare time...take a cruise around. read more

Employees here are very friendly and helpful. Barbara helped track down our order for folding chairs which had to be shipped to the store. She was terrific and even came outside when they were loaded into our car to say "hello". Thank you. We shop here regularly because you can find quality items at a great price. read more

If you like Building 19 and Family Dollar, then this is the place for you! While I am sure if you are motivated enough to take the time to hunt through the aisles and jam packed shelves there are bargains to be had somewhere...but the set up for me is just depressing, and I find myself wanting to leave as soon as I walk in the door. I have been a few times, lured in by the circulars boasting of "famous name brand" this and that....so famous they just can't reveal the name or they'd be fighting off the crowds I guess! The clothing section is full of polyester and may or may not contain cheap animal print blouse type-wear....can't say I studied it too well, but those kind of shirts would surely feel at home on the racks. They have rows and rows of poorly made shoes, suitcases, food that didn't sell elsewhere, camping gear equal to what you'd see at Walmart, "commercial grade" tarps that my husband and I had a good laugh over when we felt the sample...oh, and big plastic kayaks! Why not? We went in this last visit for a new mattress topper, and it seemed like every box they had in the section had been opened and taped shut again. A mattress pad that has been returned....? I am sure they don't allow it, but I don't have a great deal of trust for stores that are stuffed full of "bargain" ware. And as others have stated, it is an odd thing to have half the store empty and visible-how about they spread out more? It gives it that extra push over the edge for me...I don't think I will return. I give them an extra star though because a.) the cashiers have been friendly and b.) they sell ear warmers in the winter for $2.99, and they are not only hard to find but that is in fact a great price! read more
