Being a former Bostonian and back after many, many years I was very curious to check out Ocean State Job Lot. It sounded a lot like Building 19 from the descriptions on yelp, so I knew I HAD to check it out. We found the location to be well laid out and packed full of incredible bargains. This brought me back to my bargain hunting, working class family explorations. Many of the brands and styles were current and most merchandise had plenty of time before expiration. Compared to my Building 19 days of my youth, this is a major step up. If I lived here, I would be a frequent shopper. read more

This was my former "normal" Ocean State Job Lot. Ocean State Job Lot doesn't have a true competitor in the area anymore as Building 19 has closed, and Big Lots doesn't have a presence in the area (the closest store being in Franklin). At this point in time, OSJL has a few stores in my area. Living in Westwood, I live right between the newer Dedham location & this store on Route 1 in Norwood. I MUCH prefer the Dedham store for size, variety, and cleanliness. Yet, I still return to this store when in the area, and need clothing, hardware, seasonal, pets, candy, office stuff, books, or just to check for new great deals. Staff are friendly, parking is always available, and stock is great. Dedham is larger, and good at some times, but my original discount superstore still is great! read more

Honestly, where can you buy Christmas Crunch and Easter candy... in July...IN THE SAME STORE!! I'm surprised this place doesn't take pesos, it's that cheap. You want toenail clippers, barbecue sauce and a claw hammer? Yes, yes and yes...in the SAME AISLE!! YEAH!!! I had to write a review of this shoppers paradise based on the 'Busted A**' holiday present conversation that I started yesterday. Let me preface this review by saying that I travel from Roxbury all the way to Norwood a few times a year just to visit this place and Building 19 because I am a cheap, and I think can be when motivated, savvy shopper (ok, frugal). This place is a total dump, nightmarish parking and I swear to god some lady in bright red clogs tried to shiv me last weekend for strolling too slowly in the aisles. Other than that, GO, GO, GO to this hole if you are looking for; cheap little christmas presents, odds and ends for your tool box, spices, kitchen gear, framing supplies and stuff like shower curtains. One last note, hold your nose when you go down the tool aisle - b/c I swear this is where all the men that have ditched their wives go to fart until the shopping is done - no joke. read more

I go through Ocean State about once a week mostly to check out the new stuff that comes in. You can't beat the $5 golf shirts and t-shirts. Sure the stuff is mostly cheaper quality but you can find some good bargains especially on Thursday mornings. The longtime staff that work there are friendly and do a great job, but if you go to the back of the store where the pool supplies are you'll hear all the staff bitching about everything. Sometimes an inner monlogue is a good thing. I tend to stick to the outdoor, seasonal and tool sections, but sometimes I'll find some name brand food items at great prices. If you need a rug this is the place to shop first. read more

You have to weed through a lot of junk, sometimes, to find gems.. but the gems make it worthy of the search. I've found a lot of wonderful items for my home and gifts for friends here without denting my wallet in the slightest... if you like your shopping all shiney and new, this may not be your place.. but if you're willing to dig through the rough to find a diamond, a diamond you will find at the Ocean State Job Lot. read more

You can almost always find SOMETHING you need at Odd Lots. It may not be what you came in looking for, though. Staples from here: cheap spices, condiments, tools, household goods. You can occasionally find great deals on plants, flower pots, X-mas decorations, clothes, and garden tools. It's a roll of the dice, each time you come. So, if I'm near here, I'll pop in, and have a gander at the stock. I seldom walk out without a stop at the registers. read more

I live to come to shop for bargains! You can't go wrong with the nail polish and make up although the one in Dedham is a way bigger store and has way better selection on brand name make up'. It's like shopping at CVS for make up in Dedham Store Norwood is a little messy. You can always get spices and tin foil pans with lids DIRT CHEAP! Dog treats also brand names super cheap! Cookies oh my head! Lots if awesome cookies and breakfast bars and cereal you can't go wrong! Pool supplies super deals on shock and chlorine! Also for Mobility challenged folks the Dedham store has a Mart Kart to use! The Dedham store is where Toys R Us used to be at Dedham mall! Great deals on clothing mostly from Walmart but I have found plus size stuff there from Old Navy! read more

Since this location i further from good ol Dot, I rarely went here, just when visiting friends, which wasn't often (shut up D). It was pretty large and in charge; however, i never walked out with bags of crap. I dont know what it was, but maybe I felt like i was cheating on quincy or something. Its still a great store and worth trying out if you havent. Theyre so cheap and easy to get to. read more

Not my favorite place, but if you sign up for their "Internet Specials" you get coupons weekly where you can save more money on a limited number of items. I do buy birdseed here, best prices around, otherwise it is usually only the items on the Internet Specials that interest me. Customer service is non-existent and some of the help seem less than conversant in English. But it's decent for what it is. read more

Convenient Location 2-3 miles form 95/128 on Rte 1 South. Clean and organized for your bargain shopping convenience. One thing about this store. Know what you want, Know where to find it, Get your stuff, and get out Quick. This is the RIGHT place! Kitchen supplies one Place, Garden Supplies one Place, Bath or Office have their One Place. If you look up with 2 eyes you'll find it. Essentials like batteries and clear tape roles all at FRONT just in case. I'd give this place a 20 minute browse and see if you find something worth it, I Did! I always Go Back for More! read more

It's hit or miss kind of store. I went in looking for paper plates and came out with all the easter decorations that I never knew that I need except the paper plates(they didn't have it) It's crowded and little bit dirty for my taste what what should you expect from a discount store and I love that hey were using CVS Pharmacy shopping bags!!!! Oh happy place! You never know what you will find. Found some great leggings for $5 here that would have been $15-$20 in a regular retail store. I also got some great pillowcases for $4. This place is a little dirty, and I am slightly weirded out by some of the food items, but overall, love the bargains. read more

Was fine in the past. We were told they had no bathroom. We've used it in the past. If you won't let children use your restroom (or others) we won't support you. Had a big purchase and walked out. Not going to another business they recommend just to uses a restroom. read more

I would not even give 1 star. The bread is awful. Shrimp scampi comes with (2) medium sized shrimp for $13.99. The owner sits at a table, all the time, trying to get business because word of mouth does not populate this awful restraunt. Buyers beware! Stay away from this hole in the wall dive. This place has good stuff cheap. Some of the kitchen gadgets, holiday decorations, and basics such as aluminum roasting pans are priced just right. The store could be a little bit cleaner. It has a smell to it that reminds me of urban stores when I was a kid in the early 80s. They lose another star for customer service. I asked a guy where I could finds something and he just pointed without saying a word. One of the registers or supervisor could have used an attitude adjustment at the front of the store as well. read more

When I get the yen to shop, I go to Ocean State. I spend $5, my wallet (which I bought there BTW) doesn't take a hit and I feel much better. Sure it's dusty, smells a bit like grandma's attic and has a shelf for pjooduli, what ever that is, it's still a great place to pick up some odds and ends. read more

Ocean state Odd lot, yes odd lot. The things you can find at this place is crazy. I really like it for the garden supplies in the summer time. If it's something random you are in search for I'm sure you can find it here. The store is a little hectic but hey it's a job lot what do you expect. read more

This is a place where you know what to expect going in there. So do not set the bar high. I always get spices here (rather then spending $3-5 for an items usually just $1) and other little items that I know I am able to grab here for cheap. Also it is worth while to check out the makeup area and sometimes the clothes, they can have some great finds that may surprise you. read more

When the going gets tough, off I go to Job Lot! I l am a 3rd generation smart food shopper. I have been shopping at the Norwood store 2 - 4 times a month for a couple of years easily. Great food section so I can buy organic/healthy/gourmet products without breaking the bank. Rices, spices, cereal, sauces, snacks - mmm mmm mmm. Once in a while I have hit a dud, and the customer service people couldn't be nicer or more concerned that they had a product that should not have been sold (I have had my equal share of bad products purchased at Shaws and Hannaford as well) It's also a great place to dig around for stuff for your pet, office supplies, beach towels, random clothing items, soaps/shampoos/spare toothbrushes, etc. I am a JLL (Job Lot Lover)! read more

they need to make praces compatibles with real clean stores. Example: went to buy leaves bags and they were .50 cents each; and in Lowe's they were 5 bags for $1.88 and extra 10% off. If we spent time going to a place like that, is to get bargains, not full prices! that's a waste of time!!!! read more

So, I've gone to Building 19 like 4 times in my life and repeatedly got skeeved out by how dirty, disorganized and depressing it was and felt like I needed to take a shower after leaving the place. Had heard a neighbor talk about the bargains at Ocean State Job Lot and figured it was just like Building 19, but I was wrong! It's definitely not the most glamourous place to shop, but at least the products were well organized, not covered in a coating of dust and they didn't have a weird "Made in China" smell to them (if you've ever been to Building 19, you know what I'm talking about). There were some name brand items, plenty of great "early reader" kids books (for $1!) , lots of inexpensive, but not super cheapy looking board games for kids and name brand cereal, soup and baking products (cake mix, frosting, etc.). Sure there were some misses (like the "As Seen on TV" section featuring knock-offs of your favorite "As Seen on TV" products (seriously?? knock-offs of the Sham-Wow and the Slap-Chop??). All in all, saved a bunch of money and found some great holiday gifts. I'd go back in a second. read more
