Do not take your animal there! These people are cruel to animals. I have a beautiful gentle 9 year old German shepherd who hurt her leg. I was called the morning of her appointment and told it was cancelled because the vet is afraid of big dogs and I would need to drug and sedate my dog before they could see her. They have never met my dog, she is the most kind and gentle shepherd. Obviously these people do not have a natural love for animals and dont mind turning a hurt animal away for no good reason. It's sad. She suffered for 2 days waiting for this appointment . They have several bad reviews online They are not qualified to care for your pet. read more

Been taking my dog here for the last 13 years. He's 17 years old and has developed a cough. I called on a Friday and they gave me an appt on Monday. They called Monday and said they couldn't see him and would call to reschedule. Well they never did so I called them back and they tell me they have nothing available for weeks after THEY cancelled my original appt... that's some BS there folks. So they tell me to take my dog somewhere else. No problem. So now my old sick dog that has been seeing Dr. Consiglio for over a decade now has to go to a new vet. I had the best experience of West Shore Animal Hospital. My cat had a problem in the night, so I left a message. They called me back first thing and rushed him in. Their staff was consistantly so loving and kind, clear, and competant. They love our animals as much as I do. They were flexible and efficient, fairly priced, and just generally awesome. I've had bad luck in finding a good vet in the area until I went here. I didn't bring my cat anywhere for a while because of my experience at Warwick Animal Hospital. This place is great though! I will be honest though.. I made my appointment at a time that seemed to be better for them, asking them the best time to go (6:20PM on a Tuesday) and well.. it didn't really turn out to be the best time probably. I showed up promptly at the time for my appointment but no one was around. I checked myself in and missed one of the check-in papers because no one was around to let me know which papers to fill out. The actual check up from the vet(Dr. Gelsomino) was good and I had no problems with her or her assistant. They handled my cat very good considering the amount of hell I've had at vets in the past. The only problem I did have was the amount of time I waited before, during and after the checkup. 10 minutes out in the front, 40 minutes (after going out to ask where the vet was twice)in the room, and then another 10 minutes after the checkup to payout and wait for the "report card" from the vet. The other thing that annoyed me was that they tried doing the actual checkup in a different room, after my cat was already relaxed in the room for a 1/2 hour waiting. I told the assistant no way, my cat is calm now, here and now is the time to do it. The vet came in shortly after. Thankfully because of the visit, regardless of the wait, I will be bringing my cat back. I'd also like to touch on the pricing I called every vet in the area and priced out everything I'd typically be paying for. Let me preface this by saying the two older receptionists and vet techs are great. The receptionist Jessica (AKA Ice Princess), Dr. Consiglio, 'Practice Manager' Alexis, and overall business model not so much. Communication is horrible. Took almost 6 days for Dr. Consiglio to respond to my message that my cat was not responding well to her adjustment of my cat's meds. With no apology for the delay in response. Called to refill my cat's meds within 4 days of being out of meds. Did not get meds refilled until my cat had been completely out of his meds for a full 48 hours. My cat is on steroids and you never stop steroids abruptly- it can have serious consequences which could potentially result in death. Over the time of me inquiring and waiting for the refill, I had the pleasure of only dealing with Ice Princess, yay me! One of the worst dispositions from a receptionist I have ever encountered. She was flippant and literally acted as through she could have given two sh*ts that my cat was out of meds. None of the normal pleasantries and definitely not an apology for the situation I was in that was ENTIRELY their fault. When I explained to the -real big air quotes here- practice manager, Alexis how dire it is for my cat to be off his meds and was ENTIRELY their fault, guess what, zero apology from her either. Collectively, this says this is common practice from them. A word of advice, don't go here. Always look for a practice that is owned by one of the practicing Drs. There clearly is no oversight of 'quality' here. read more

Pricey : expect to pay higher than you would in other parts of RI. On the flip side, the customer service is excellent (you get letters thanking you and follow up calls the next day of treatment) The plot isn't well plowed for customers arriving with vehicles poorly equipped for snow : plus getting back onto Warwick Ave can be a chore if trying to leave. My cats are still undergoing treatment, but the staff is friendly, helpful and willing to be as personal as possible. My only downfall is seeing the bill at the end of the session :) read more

I was lucky enough to work here for 6 years. I've been exposed to a lot of other clinics - but you won't be able to find an animal clinic that matches the level of care, quality and devotion that all of these women have. Your animals really have a place in their heart. They spend hours after close writing records. They take every extra step to make sure your animal is comfortable and well cared for. They keep themselves informed of the best medicine so that they can provide it to their patients. Honestly, I can't think of a better group of women to have caring for any animal. I can't believe it's taken me so long to write a review about West Shore. I've been going here for years and unfortunately my three dogs have been very unlucky in the health department. The Drs and staff here are not only extremely knowledgeable, but they really truly care about you and your animals. I would never go anywhere else. I have sadly been through the ringer when it comes to vet visits.. sometimes being there multiple times a week even twice in one day because of my dogs ailments (cancer.. seizures and multiple other issues) I got to know the girls here and they're some of the most caring people I know. They're always there to answer any questions I have. Dr Gelsomino especially is a complete rock star superhero veterinarian. She gave me more time with my babies and when my Chloe passed she made me a beautiful paw print and you could see how much time and effort she put in to making it perfect and beautiful. It is one of my most prized possessions. Thank you to the amazing staff at West Shore for being there for me when my dogs and I needed you most. I'd also like to add to the people saying that they waited a long time.. I will tell you why, Dr Gelsomino is meticulous when writing out the reports from each patient, she stays late frequently to make sure all emails and calls are returned and all patient reports are complete. I've gotten these and am always surprised at how detailed they are so I don't mind waiting because I know she is just taking care of someone else's baby just as well as she is taking care of mine. read more

The only really bad day of having a dog is putting them down, I feared that day snuck up, catching my regular vet & I somewhat off guard. He recommended the possibility of laser surgery at West Shore Animal Clinic where Dr.Proulx showed a level of attention, care & approachable expertise way beyond what I would have expected. I cannot comment on the quality of their services only on the extremely poor quality of their customer service/front desk. I had an appointment for a set time, had sent in my paperwork in advance. I received a number of voice mail reminders of the set time and thanking me for sending in my paperwork. The morning of the appointment, I got two messages saying they could not find the paperwork and could I email it to them, all while I was driving to the appointment. When I got to my appointment, 5 mins late due to traffic and unfamiliar area, I was told my appointment was at 11 and not the 11:20 I was told. They even argued with me about this when I had proof otherwise. Then I was told I was too late - 5 minutes - and they couldn't see me. I asked to speak to someone in a supervisory position and they kept me on hold so long, I gave up. Never again. How can you treat customers this way and stay in business? read more

I wanted to post a warning about West Shore Animal Clinic's high prices. They DO NOT disclose prices before preforming tests and procedures (even when asked), leaving you with sticker shock when they hand you the bill. Communication was another major and ongoing issue with this vet, leading to much frustration about prescription refills, procedures and fees over the year and a half I brought my cat there. The facility is clean and the staff is great with the animals. They were even nice to me until I started asking questions about pricing and policy, at which point some of the staff would become unacceptably defensive and condescending. I am moving on to a more reasonable and transparent vet. read more

I should start by saying I have mixed feelings for this place. I find some of the technicians caring and very good with my cat but others who seem that they couldn't care less. I also should preface with saying my cat despises the car ride and typically shows up having had an accident in her cage. I don't know all of their names yet (they have 3 vets that I have seen) but you definitely develop a preference to one. Overall I know my cat gets good care but sometimes I feel they go overboard with tests especially when they are shooting in the dark. I have an epileptic cat who has an allergy which took several visits to diagnose. They are always able to schedule "emergency" day of appointments and call to follow up and make sure your pet is doing well. Everyone says they are expensive but compared to my previous vet in Massachusetts they are a steal of a deal (that's perspective). read more

They created a whole story marking my dogs record saying she was fear aggressive when they were simply scared of her because she's a Rottweiler. She is an agility and rally dog with her canine good citizen certification . Every time she came in for shots they tried to make me muzzle her. Then they told me, we muzzle all dogs. Then when I told them my sister was a vet technician for over 10 years and they were not telling the truth. They came clean with the fact they had labeled her medical record that she was to be muzzled. Then I was like print my record. Your fired as my vet they argued with me. Then when I got my printed record I could see all the stuff they wrote about my 1 year old puppy. I would not go here. Thier service is terrible and they are very expensive. read more

I first came to this clinic after my cat experienced urinary problems. West Shore immediately got me in for an appointment and likely saved my cats life with their quick diagnosis and treatment. Vet techs Erin and Jen were especially helpful with not only reassuring me but also helping me pick a food for him that would prevent any further flair ups. After seeing them for several years for my cat's annual visits, I adopted a kitten and took him in to see them after he developed an eye infection and they once again provided thorough and prompt care. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a clinic that puts the time and effort into caring for your animals. We've been going to West Shore Animal Clinic for about four years. Despite not loving everything about the clinic (e.g. not accepting Rx call-ins from 1800petmeds.com), we would never go anywhere else. We love our vet- Dr. Gelsomino. She is the most compassionate and loving vet we have ever had. Additionally, she has an amazing "bed side" manner. She takes the time to explain all results and possible treatment options, in addition to completely answering ALL our questions. All this while sitting on the floor cuddling with our puppies. Our Labrador has been through several pretty serious health issues. Even though the illnesses can be emotionally draining, I am always truly grateful for Dr. Gelsomino. I have been to a lot of veterinarians throughout my life. And I would rank this clinic among the top 10 that I've ever used. I am new to the area and they're close to where I live so I decided to try them. Staff is very friendly and caring and kind to the pets. Doctors are thorough and very kind and careful. I really don't know how to describe this place it is so good. When I moved I was sorry to give up my old vet. But since that was necessary this office has made it a lot easier. We've been clients of West Shore for many years and I absolutely love Dr. Gelsomino. She is a great addition to the staff. She takes the time to really explanation every diagnosis and all of the treatment options available. She even takes the extra step to explain why they recommend or don't recommend certain treatments. West Shore's staff, especially Jen, have been great over the years. They've been there for our pets' first visits and helped us when it was time to make the difficult decisions once they had become too sick to continue to treat. Just moved to Rhode Island and looking to get a Veterinary for my dog. This was the worst Vet experience ever and my dog never even saw the Vet yet. I received numerous calls giving me conflicting information and even had my appointment canceled as they stated my dog did not need to be seen to get Trifectis as my dog's records were in order only to receive a another call stating my records had not been received and no appointment in the system. I cannot trust a Clinic that will let this level of ineptitude go on and not expect that same ineptitude to come into play during the care of dog. I could easily see them giving her the wrong medication, the wrong dosage, misdiagnosis, and etc. She is too valuable to me to be left at the hands of what I call a Larry, Moe, and Curly operation. Also I spoke with the Manager in attempt to gain confidence that they could rectify the experience and left even with a worse perception of their operations. When a new customer has a terrible experience and your response is "Trust Me it won't happen" again" is your best response. Also you don't even apologize, there is something wrong. Absolutely a crappy experience and hoping I can prevent someone else from going through the same experience. read more

They are the most amazing clinic! We have a cat with FIV and they have help us with treating him. We had to put our 22 year old cat down last night and they were so supportive and understanding. i had to update my review due to an ongoing issue with my pup that they could not diagnose, i was rudely spoken to and my phone calls were not returned after multiple calls and being asked to call in with updates none the less, i decided to try titan vet just up the street for a second opinion after hearing good feedback, and west shore would not share his xrays??? i have been going here for 6 years and i feel the service has gone downhill while there outrageous prices remain the same, between this and speaking with two other pet owners at titan about their poor service at west shore i will not return, i do believe dr. consiglio does care but that alone is not enough for me. read more
