My husband and I came today for dinner. All we did was fight flies. The waitress said yea I know you have to tell the manager I wasn't able to finish my food because I fly landed on my plate. I visited the Ocean View on Broad River Road Friday August 11, 2023, the two people that work the cash register, ( both individuals were speaking in a foreign language. I assume they were managers . I was very applauded at the behavior they both individuals allowed their customers to see and negative attitudes to displayed to their employees like they were mad with the world. I feel that people should not have to be subject to that type behavior from their employer. I will never purchase anything or visit this place again. So unprofessional. The table and menus were sticky with what seemed to be grease, the servers could not decide who had our table, and did not seem to care, after much discussion/delay one came forward to take our drink order then two more offered to take our orders. If I could give 0 stars I would. I called my order in and the call went okay until I asked what the total was. The lady was short with me and didn't even tell me the total. My group's expirience wasn't as great as many other reviews describe on the internet. Our waitress didn't seem like she wanted to be there, and she had to be asked to refill our drinks several times. The fountain soda (the coke and sprite) tasted funny according to two people in our group. On the bright side, the fried seafood platters were great and the portions were huge. Like other reviewers, I agree that the food is not greasy, but it's incredibly bland. The sweet tea tasted like it was old and starting to ferment. Instead of butter for baked potatoes all they had were little single serving cups of vegetable oil spread. The squirt bottles used for the tartar sauce had old crusted sauce all around the openings. We had dinner here tonight the whole time we were there the servers either sat or stood at the front and talked to each other and didnt pay attention to the customers. One couple left due to being sat but server never coming over to them. We ordered the New York Strip and jumbo shrimp, steaks were suppose to be cooked medium, they came out well done. The shrimp and my baked potato were over cooked. The booth that we sat at had old food on the wall. The dining room was hot, when we asked if the AC was broken we were told it was because the way the side we sat on didnt have trees to cover the windows. I asked the server to replace the one piece I hadn't eaten and she happily agreed. However, it took 45 minutes for the recook to come back out. 45 minutes and there were maybe 10 people in the entire restaurant and 5 had already eaten. It was also on the brink of being burnt also, but was better. I would like to think if I'm going to be paying nearly 20.00 for a meal that I could have it in a fair amount of time and without it being burned. There were a few good things. Servers were all very kind, hushpuppies are wonderful, the she crab soup is super yummy, and there are pretty good deals on the food. My friend enjoyed her crablegs pretty well. So, I was a little worried by other posts here, but we decided to try it anyway. I got the chicken tenders with baby shrimp, baked potato, coleslaw and hush puppies for 6.99. My wife got the fried flounder with all the same sides for 5.99. The chicken tenders were very good! And they have a house made ranch that is awesome with buffalo sauce for dipping. The potatoes were good, better with ranch than sour cream. Sour cream in a plastic tube was ugh. More ingredients than hand lotion! Baby shrimp were just ok. Texture was odd. My wife received two large filets of flounder. They were ample and flavorful, but texturally reminded her of tilapia. Hmm. Coleslaw was good, but the thing that threw us was the hush puppies! They look like onion rings! Very tasty, though. The decor? Dated, dirty, and in need of a scrubbing! Ceiling tiles were droopy and stained, and some wallpaper was sagging with visible mold behind it. So I went here on a Sunday by myself as I often do when I come to Columbia for business purposes. I ordered the scallop Alfredo and side salad, only to be completely underwhelmed. The interior decor was dated and looks cheap, the dishes and dinnerware are scratched and chipped up, and the staff acted entitled and inconvenienced because I said I would be dining alone. My server barely checked on me and rushed me through ordering and I had to wait a good while for refills. The salad was ok, I liked the fresh greens but was watery and soggy as if they just washed the romaine lettuce and didn't drain it at all. When my plate came the seafood was overcooked and rubbery, like they were microwaved after being frozen for a whole. the pasta was fine tasting but it was drenched in Alfredo sauce and was almost like a soup. I started eating it anyways and about 5 minutes into my entree I popped a scallop into my mouth, and was surprised to find TWO pieces of plastic off of a plastic food bag or something of the sort. It grossed me out so Much I could not continue eating and asked to speak with the manager. He at first acted like he didn't believe me and asked to see the plastic pieces, to which I showed him. He then explained it was harmless and probably fell in when they cut the bags that the oysters are in. He did apologize and comped my meal and wrote me a gift certificate for next time and sent me home with some DEVINE raspberry cheesecake, probably the best I've ever had! I requested that I still wanted to leave a tip for the waitress because I used to work good service and I know how it is. Nobody thanked me and I ended up waiting for a long time in line just to leave a tip. I will only be going back to spend my free gift certificate, and for the cheesecake. If you are looking for a white table restaurant, then this is not the place for you. However, if you want a no-frills fried fish place, then this is the spot! They carry a variety of fish available for fried platters (I would recommend frying because not confident that they can do other forms of prep well) and very tasty hush puppies. They offer a cinnamon butter that you can use to dip your hush puppies in or use for the roasted sweet potato. The prices are dirt cheap but the proportions are quite large. The batter seasoning is on point and the fry consistency is crunchy. I prefer a hard fry, so this works well for me. When I come to the South I anticipate sweet tea and this place does not disappoint. If you get an Arnold Palmer, it is not overly sweet. With respect to service, the waitress treated us with great southern hospitality! She was super friendly and efficient. Our cups were refilled when needed and she made sure to check on us routinely.
