I was seen for a possible root canal. Not till after taking a full. Series of X-rays was I told I would need an additional 3D X-ray at a cost of $1100 for them to person the procedure. This is not covered by insurance. Be ware of their deceptive and unethical tactics. I already have another appointment with another dentist for a root canal and they told me upfront. Surprised to see this place is still open. Needed a wisdom teeth removal and the office required that I also get a bone graft before I even got to see their oral surgeon. Read: additional money in their pockets. To anyone who doesn't know, bone grafts are absolutely unnecessary for a young patient with zero jaw issues. The office manager tried to convince me it was necessary to support my jaw and prevent it from collapsing. Since when were office managers involved in the technicalities of a doctor's job? Something smelled fishy. Well, went to a second much more honest and reputable office, and viola! All wisdom teeth removed within an hour. Took the insurance and barely anything out-of-pocket. Not even sedation was needed, just local anesthesia. In and out, healed perfectly. And guess what, my jaws are as jaw-like as ever! read more

I have been going her for some time and was always generally happy with the work. This last time I went I had 3 crowns replaced. The temporary crowns fell out 3 times, and not once did the emergency doctor call me back. I am in pain and can't eat or drink or breathe out of my mouth because it is so sensitive. It is a Saturday on Labor Day weekend and I called the office 34 times and left 27 messages on the "emergency dentists" voicemail and the rest on the office voicemail. As I said, I didn't receive a call back last time this happened (last week) and I didn't receive one today. The time before that I didn't receive a phone call back until the next day (and that was a weekday). This is so messed up. Every dentist in town won't take me as an emergency because I am not already a patient so I am at the mercy of Oceanside Dental. My entire weekend is ruined and I'm going to have to live in pain at least another 48 hours because no one is manning the phones for emergencies. Why have an emergency Dr. line if no one ever answers or calls you back? Just say "eff you" on your voicemail so we know to stop calling. I want my money back. read more

There is a new manager as of summer 2022 and are still trying to get it together, at least from my observation. Lots of new front desk staff too, sometimes rude. The doctors and dental staff are nice though. They accept medi-cal. Things I don't like: - Took extremely long to get back to me regarding billing and other inquiries, over 3 months - They don't let you know at check in if they're running late - I had to fight against one of their "policies" that wasn't stated in the paper I signed - Prior employees did not entirely understand policies or how to answer basic questions - Do not provide "receipts" for services or for claims to be submitted to HSA with dates (only ledgers) I will be changing providers once my ortho treatment is finished. read more

I have been going to this dental office since 2016 and I have been happy (especially with the dental hygienists) until this past year or so. A crown was done for a tooth in October 2023. After 11 months of pain (and repeated visits seeing three different new-to-this-office dentists who said there was nothing wrong with the crown), the tooth had be extracted because the pain became unbearable. If the tooth had been left alone, I am sure that it would still be fine. (That tooth had been "under observation" for decades but did not cause me any problems until the crown was done. Prior to that, the dental hygienists have been happy with my progress.) For background, I am not young (60+ years old), and did not have good dental services growing up (since I was from a third-world country). As a result, I've had my share of dental work done over the years, including crowns. Will I go to a different dentist? Probably not, since I am old. I will continue to visit the dental hygienist and receive other services. I just would never have a crown done ever again in this office. I would either go to my home country for a new crown, or simply let the tooth naturally fall out. Note: The dentist who recommended the crown and installed the temporary crown is different from the dentist who installed the permanent crown. The dentist who recommended and did the extraction is also different. I had 4 different dentist in a period of one year. It seems like dentists rotate so they can see "new" patients and recommend "new" treatments and then leave to find more "new" patients in other offices. But that is life, I suppose. read more

Today I had my first visit w Dr. Hoang & his team. WoW! I finally lucked out w my medical/dental team. I switched from a dentist locally who made me feel as tho' I was on a used car lot. She was trying to talk me into a pricey dental upgrade of services that my insurance won't cover and wanted me to sign up for her dental financing plan. Gee, NO THANKS, see you later buh bye. Dr. Hoang & his team are actively checking to see if my plan covers suggested dental improvements & if not, how costs can be kept to a minimum. I used to be a SUPER FAN. I'm SUPER disappointed in Oceanside Dental and Ortho. I made an appointment for my daughter's routine cleaning, I made them well aware that she is now wearing braces when I made the appointment. When my daughter got there, she was told her wires needed to be removed for a proper cleaning. (They told my 12 year old this). They also said she had 2 cavities. I called and called for treatment , no one called me back. We went away for a few months, and I just reached out to them to RIGHT their WRONG . I explained to the receptionist, SHE assured me someone would call me back. Well, no one called me back. There's NO ACCOUNTABILITY from this business, and they don't even have a hygienist. Their best dentist has changed offices, and their current dentist is not even close to being nice. This place is only concerned about $ and not your well being. Run. I have dealt with this establishment for years. Stuck in a never ending circle of "stick it out bc it will be fixed" I should have cut my thousands lost a long time ago and started over as I am forced to now bc I am moving and they call me day of my appt and pull the rug out from under me. The entire time I have been a patient it has been unacceptable wait times at appts and for ortho equipment, mixed up appt times, lack of communication. The front desk and management are completely incompetent. They ran a special for money off if you gave them 5 star and I am certain that is the only reason their Yelp page isn't a 1 star establishment. If you have had a bad experience in the past, like me, then you need to come see Dr. Nguyen! I have gone through a few bad dentist in the past and was really scared of going to the dentist. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about his career and explains the entire process to make sure you're comfortable. That's really important in my choice in a dentist because they need to have a fine attention to detail so they can operate properly. Booking an appt was easy, they worked with my insurance, and the office was clean. I came in as a new patient cause my tooth had been bothering me and he was able to fill 3 of my teeth from cavities and do a deep cleaning (like I said above, I was really scared of going to the dentist). He made the numbing process a little less painful by trying to crack jokes. It was fast, fairly painless, and my teeth feel better. And now I am excited to be one step closer to Invisalign! We are new patients. We had to Call in with an emergency on Friday for a cracked molar. We worked in asap on Monday. They tempo filled the tooth. Dr. Hoang is very kind. His technician is efficient and their office staff is very welcoming. They explained everything thoroughly and was able to get us scheduled throughout the next month for the quadrant cleaning and scheduled root canal. *My family is at the mercy of denti-cal and all the postponed setbacks of the waiting game for preauthorizations but that didn't hinder the professionalism and quality of care we receive. Update- I have so many mixed feelings about posting this, because the entire office and the dentists have been great to me! No complaints whatsoever, very kind and also professional. This review is directed at the oral surgeon and the anesthesiologist that handled my (2nd round) of wisdom teeth removal. They were very kind as well, however, during the procedure, ( local anesthesia only as per my request) I had a terrible reaction to the lidocaine. I couldn't see straight or hear clearly. I was shivering uncontrollably, teeth chattering, couldn't control my tongue (that part seems normal I know) ... A few of the girls in the office came to ask me if I was cold, and what was wrong, because it was clear I wasn't doing well. "Are you okay?", "Is she okay?" I tried explaining that I had no goosebumps, no feelings of being cold, I had to be reacting to the anesthesia, as it happened almost immediately afterwards. To which both the oral surgeon and anesthesiologist said, "The lidocaine has adrenaline so it's normal." I took their word for it, even though I had the same procedure done with my top wisdom teeth with no issue whatsoever. Anyways, fast forward, I ended up okay. But I've recently looked into lidocaine allergies, so I could make sure to have it on file for myself in the future. It turns out, lidocaine allergies, or allergies to any anesthesia at all, are extremely rare. What's not so rare? Lidocaine toxicity- or being given an excess which results in vision and hearing issues, unclear speech, muscle spasms and tremors, as well as seizures, coma, respiratory depression, death. I find it hard to believe both the oral surgeon and anesthesiologist were both blissfully unaware of what had happened. They gave me much too high of a dose, and weren't going to admit it, instead they covered it up with a lame excuse. Had they given me just a little more...had I *finally* lost those extra pounds and had been lighter, I'm sure I would have experienced one of the more severe symptoms of lidocaine toxicity. I'm not sure where to go with this, obviously I have no evidence at this point, but please take this into account when you choose this office and oral surgeon. Look up your options and be aware. It's very serious. Original- Dr. Nguyen and the whole team, Ali, Tanis, Veronica, Maria, and Kelly have been great since the beginning. I switched to this office after having a few not-so-great experiences elsewhere, and I don't plan on changing any time soon. The entire office is friendly and professional without . After calling and texting to get the information I let them know I would be 15 minutes late due to their lack of due diligence and planning upfront. They then told me I had to reschedule. I really didn't want to have to write this review but my last experiences here were horrific. I had an appt scheduled for 6/24 that was cancelled bc the hygienist was unavailable and rescheduled for 7/6. On 7/5 I receive a phone call saying they need to cancel again due to the hygienist being unavailable. I call to resched and the front desk girl says she can put me on a list to call if there are any cancellations. Ok. I ask to schedule something ASAP in case there are no cancellations (why wasn't this her suggestion?). Next available appointment is 8/11 at 2:00. I'm supposed to be on a 3 mos cleaning sched and now I'm 5 mos out from my last cleaning. I get a phone call at 9:08 am the following morning asking if I can make a 9:30 am appointment. I cannot. They normally send multiple text messages and call to confirm your upcoming appt, I found it odd I received none but was tied up with travel and personal matters. I call the morning of 8/11 to confirm I do actually have an appt at 2:00 that day and I'm not on their books! I tell her that I've been cancelled twice now and the fact that my 3rd appt isn't even in their books is extremely frustrating. The receptionist, Star, tells me they have a 4:00 appointment available. I ask if there's anything a bit sooner bc I have another appt at 5:00. They do not. I move my schedule around to make this dentist appointment work because I am 2 mos overdue and I'm about to leave on a 5 week trip. I don't have time to putz around with this. Star calls back 20 minutes later asking if I can come in instead at 2:30 because the doctor can see me then. Are you freaking kidding me??? My original appt was supposed to be at 2:00, I moved my schedule around to make the 4:00 work and now 15 mins later you ask me to move up to 2:30??? I then get another call from Star 15 minutes later to tell me that they reviewed my chart and my original appt was cancelled due to my insurance coverage and someone (Veronica? Name began with a V) called and left me a voicemail. I'm apparently only covered for once a year. I tell her I never received any voicemail, check my call history and voicemails and I haven't heard from them since they called to see if I could be there in 22 minutes and the last VM I have from them is 7/5 when they cancelled my appt. She insists I was called. I think I can keep my interactions with the ONE dental office I speak with straight vs how many patients you deal with on a daily basis. If I'm only covered for 1x/year why did you have me on an every 3 mos schedule??? And why was I told the other 2 cancellations were due to the hygienist being unavailable??? WTF. I am FURIOUS at this point. So do I even come in today or is it that not covered??? She asks me to hold and basically comes back and basically says, JK we read your chart wrong, you're covered. We'll see you today at 2:30 and send out for the pre-authorization. When I get there, Star greets me with a, "hey! You made it!" SERIOUSLY?? I've been waiting 5 months for you guys to actually be there and be available for my cleaning and you're surprised that I'VE made it??? She says something about my appt and that they'll send out for pre-authorization which should come back in 4-6 weeks and they can schedule that after I'm finished. I tell her I won't be returning after today's cleaning. She tells me the dentist won't do my exam today then so it will be easier with my insurance at my next office. Fine. All I got was a polish and a floss. I went through ALL OF THAT just for a polish and a floss??? I floss daily and have a sonicare, thanks. The dentist comes in and I tell her I'm not sure if she's supposed to examine me bc of insurance since I won't be returning. She asks what happened and I tell her. She listens and explains my insurance and I FINALLY feel heard as a patient and understand what the front desk failed to convey. She does a quick examination anyway and is extremely apologetic. I almost change my mind and stay with the office based on my interaction with her alone. But I just can't. Now I'll be waiting for another 2 months to get a proper dental cleaning bc I'm going out of town and they've completely wasted my time. read more

Definitely recommend coming here. From the receptionist to the dental assistant, Pricilla, they are all very professional and friendly. I can safely say that they provide the newest equipment but yet are affordable. I've been to several dentists and I haven't found one that I'm sticking with--up until now. I saw Dr. Hoang and he answered & reviewed any questions prior and after my cavity fills. The staff did not try to persuade me into getting any dental work that I did not need. 100% people you can trust and have a good conversation with. Tip: do get there with plenty of time if you're a new patient. I turned left on on the parrot rd. one street before & then I had paperwork to do of course. This small practice is run out of a shoebox, and is both cramped and understaffed. The technical staff doing the actual in-mouth work are fairly good. The front-office staff is incompetent, and management is extremely poor. They cannot seem to handle insurance correctly, and frequently over-charge. Then they become surly when you ask for a refund. I had to complain to Delta Dental multiple times about this, and eventually got the refunds. I also reported this practice to the state Dental Board, due to some unethical behavior when they retaliated against me for complaining. Very petty. Good riddance to them. I am now with a competent practice, roomy, efficient, well staffed, and no billing or insurance issues. read more

I want to start out by saying that I am a complete coward when it comes to dental work and I have avoided going to the dentist for a large portion of my adult life. I completely expected to be judged for my lack of dental care when I scheduled my first appointment here but I was so wrong. No one here batted an eye when I mentioned how long it had been since my last dental exam nor did they seem to care that I don't have great insurance. Maria went above and beyond to help me figure out the financial side of the work I needed done. I was given a complete explanation of what I needed done and why it was necessary. There were no pushy sales pitches for treatments that I couldn't afford or may not even really need. The front desk staff are amazing, they really make you feel like family. I often have to bring my toddlers into appointments with me and they are so understanding and friendly to the kids. They have a kids table set up with books and crayons that keeps the little ones entertained as well as movies playing in the waiting room. Over all this place is amazing and if you're like me and tend to avoid dental work out of fear or for financial reasons, this is the place for you! read more

SCAM! Beware!! I did my due diligence to read reviews prior to picking a dentist so though I had selected a good one. When I went to my first appointment which I booked for my six month cleaning/exam they said that they were only doing the exam and not exam/cleaning like all other dentists do. This means I would have to pay my co-pay twice and have someone watch my newborn twice. Clearly, intended to rip people off if you do the math of all the additional co-pays on having people come in for two visits. I asked with Covid going on and wanted to reduce exposure if I could please just do my cleaning today and they said they had separate schedules for hygienists and the dr's in tone that inferred all offices do this. The office manager also said they don't do exams and cleanings on the same day because they need to review what kind of cleaning would be needed after the exam. I told them I just get the cleaning that is included in my insurance plan twice a year. She went on to tell me how depending on my exam, I may require a deep cleaning. I told her I didn't want a deep cleaning regardless, because that's not something my insurance covers. She went on about a how deep cleanings are necessary and I told her firmly, I only want what is included in my insurance plan. After my exam and no cavities, The dentist also said she recommended a deep cleaning. I asked if that would be an additional charge and she said the receptionist would check my insurance and let me know. She then tried to upsell me on teeth whiteners and recommended additional work like a retainer when I have perfect teeth and no dentist has ever said to remove my bottom retainer bar and replace it with a retainer. Then the office manager came in and did a high pressure sale on how "I NEED a deep cleaning because my gums are at risk" I declined and requested just basic cleaning that should be covered by insurance, but was told that wouldn't meet their standard of excellence and their dentist could get in trouble if they were audited for providing me a standard cleaning when deep cleaning was recommended so they refused to do it. They asked again with a scare tactic on what happens if you don't get a deep cleaning and if I wanted to book an appointment for the deep cleaning now and see if insurance comes back with a price that's affordable - I said no. I had to say no several more times as she still tried to book me the deep cleaning until she got the official pricing back from my Aetna insurance. I told her no again and left. I got a second opinion from a new dentist a few days later and they said I do NOT need a deep cleaning. This office is clearly just upselling people and getting away with telling you what they want you to get instead of what you actually should be getting done. Thought I found a good dentist, finally found a hygienist that knows how to clean teeth after going to eight different dentists in Oceanside and Vista. Then it was time for me to get work done office manager (who is no longer there) would always bill the wrong insurance and make me co- pay. I had denti- cal and paid a $20 discount service Just to cover crown because Dental cal would not cover the crown because Denest said I needed a fancy one even dental -cal manager said secondary insurance is not insurance and she should be billing them for everything I always wondered if she was just pocketing my money I gave her so just in case I started using credit card. I did like denest and she did a good job. After a big blowing fight with office mgr and corporate and insurance. I finally got a reasonable price on my crowns in fact it was a little bit discounted but still no coverage from either insurance Next time I needed to visit I continue to go there even though office manager continue to charge the wrong insurance but at least good denest and excellent hygienist!!! Fast forward about six months had pain in my right upper molar went back there since they were my dentist and it would be less of a hassle (so I thought.) Office manager was gone so that was a good thing. (So I thought) Office staff at this point was very helpful in the past they had one really nasty lady. They warned me that things have gone up ,They had a new Denest the dentist may not do the pulling without the bone graph which is not something Medi-Cal covers. I no longer have the supplemental insurance. I told him several times I have no money they kept going back-and-forth they went to talk to her came back. I felt like I was at a used car dealership. OK well she will take a look and see I reiterated to them that I was not paying anything out of my pocket and if this was a waste of time then to forget it. When I got back to see the new dentist she proceeded to tell me all the things I needed in my mouth ??? what part of denti cal do you not understand?? People do not have dental CAL because they have money!!!! ?? I am in between jobs right now and had to jump on this insurance. I felt like telling her maybe you can get away with ripping off denta cal but I can't!!! if I had money I wouldn't be using them. I guess office manager left maybe took the Denest with her and replaced them with an all in one evil twin So her quote was $1300 for a crown on the tooth. (that by the way connects to an empty space on the bottom of my mouth) I have already been told by 3 detests that it's barely worth saving. She is askin me things like how are you gonna chew?? (Well definitely not with that tooth duh it just sits there ) this is important you need to get this done yada yada yada!!! OK enough already !!! you did your job, I know , I don't care leave me alone!!! After being angry for them wasting my time the office staff offered to give me an appointment with a sister company 3 weeks down the road ??? Ha ha now that's customer service at its finest!!! The staff are very friendly BUT they really freaked me out about my teeth. After my exam they said I needed 2 crowns as well as shaving down the bone of my jaw and a possible root canal! Of course even with using insurance this would all come out to about $1500 not including what a periodontist would cost which they were a also going to send me to. I wanted a second opinion so asked for my x-rays which they charged me $25 to get. I went to another dentist who told me what Oceanside Dental was saying was a terrible cavity that needed a crown was only some chipped enamel. I only actually have 1 small cavity and for all the work that I actually need I'm only going to be paying $62. I'm so glad I got that second opinion and my family will never go back there again. read more

This used to be a great dental office, and Dr. Nguyen was/is a skilled and caring doctor. But unfortunately I don't have high praise for the rest of that staff. From the phone receptionist to the billing person/salesgirl, they all seem to forget they are there to help the patient. I should've heeded my instinct and booked an appointment elsewhere, but I figured since Dr. Nguyen is good, it should be ok. Bad idea.... I didn't see Dr. Nguyen. I saw Dr. Vo. She did not communicate what she was doing and she was not very gentle. But she ultimately recommended treatment that would fix it and she took into consideration other issues I had, so things were looking up I thought...and then the salesgirl came in. She brought the list of crowns to choose from, and there was only one crown on the list. The expensive one. I asked for options covered by insurance, and she showed one crown with additional charges for other procedures. Then she claimed she wasn't authorized to sell me the crown without the other procedures. Not authorized? What is this? A car dealership? The upselling and the hard sell tactics were too much for me and I got up and left. I emailed the office manager with my concerns, but got no response. I switched to another dental office after that. Also, they had displayed their appointment schedule on the monitor in the room I was in. It had names and procedures of patients they were seeing that day, including the photo and birthdate of one woman. It was the large monitor on the wall for anyone to see. Horrible service. Called them, nobody answered, and left them a message to call me back. Nobody called me back, so I called them again to make a cleaning appointment. They require an initial consultation before cleaning. Initial consultation appointment is not available until about one month out and only after that can I schedule cleaning which will be another 2 months out. I had my wisdom teeth pulled here and I couldn't have had a better experience. I was so nervous but they make you feel very welcome and put me at ease. Also Mona, (front desk) helped me so so much with insurance issues and really went above and beyond to help me. I very highly recommend them! read more
