Wow. It's hard to put into words the amazing level of care and service I receive at this dental office. I'm a very nervous dental patient with TMJ challenges and a history of difficult experiences elsewhere. For over ten years I drove all the way to La Mesa for my dental care because I didn't think I could find a dentist in North County who met that same level of trust and skill. I am a tooth grinder and so I got some beautiful gold crowns put on my back molars to hopefully mitigate future challenges and assure a healthy job for years to come. Not every Dentist is able to do gold crowns so I really appreciated that aspect. I'm so glad I took a chance with Dr. Adourian and his team. Not only is Dr. Adourian incredibly skilled, gentle, and thorough, but T and all of the front-desk ladies make me feel genuinely welcome and at ease every single visit. The office has such a warm, friendly, local atmosphere there is nothing corporate or impersonal about it. Both of my kids had an appointment on May 20th. That I had to cancel last minute do to my grandma falling from the second floor and being in the ICU battling life and death. I never rescheduled them because my grandma is still on a ventilator and unsure if she will be getting disconnected. On 6/8/26 my husband had an appt. That I also helped him cancel because he was stuck in traffic due to the fire on 76hwy and canyon road. In Oceanside. Which the office said they would wave the cancelation fee and that it was ok. On 6/10 i had an appt to follow up on my deep cleaning appt. Which my intention were to attend my appointment but had was planning to cancel due to the fire near my house, near vandegrift blvd. We were on stand by to Evacuate. After calling the dental office to communicate that, they informed me that I would get billed $60 for canceling my appointment because I had canceled my kids appt. And my husband appointment. I went ahead to explain to both the front desk and the office manager that I wasn't canceling intentionally and that it was due to unforeseen events out of my control. They still said that if I didn't come in to be seen I would get fine for canceling. Not only was I getting fine for cancelling but was I was getting penalized for my husbands cancellation and my kids cancellation as a family, at least that's what i was told. That because my husband had canceled his appt. His cancellation icounted towards me as a patient because he is my husband. I continued to explain that I didn't think it was fair that his cancelation as a patient was affecting me, as he is his own persona and I shouldn't get penalized for it since we are 2 different patients. I also informed them that their cancelation fee contract did not specify that cancelations as a family counted towards any family member and how it didn't make sense his cancelation was counting towards me as a patient... when billing his insurance the office of billing for his visit when he gets seen under his name not under mine... and vise Versa... I just didn't think it was fair I was getting penalized over a cancellation that had nothing to do with me as a patient.... I requested to speak to the doctor or anyone higher than the office manager but she said she wasn't going to bother the doctor/owner with that as there was a reason she was hired and it was to enforce policy. After being literally forced to come in to my dental follow up so I wouldn't get a fee, I came in, checked in and asked to Speak to the doctor or anyone else in charge and "no one was available" I left the office with out scheduling further and with out speaking to any of the doctors... today 6/11-I called the office and requested to speak to the doctor and left a message for a call back but no one ever called me back. I was told to email the office by the receptionist because the doctor was busy... I emailed the office and requested to speak to the doctor and the office responded back with a dismissal letter from their practice instead for my whole family... I find it very unprofessional that the owner did not take the time to listen to my concerns as a patient and that the office lacked of empathy for our unforeseen cancelation events that were not within my control. There were events that somehow put myself and family at risk. I even informed the office that I had proof that I wasn't lying and that I didn't want to cancel just to cancel... I understand if they wanted to count my kids cancelation towards me as a patient because they're underage and I'm their mom... it just didn't make sense how I was getting penalized over my husband cancelation just because he is my husband and is their patient... I was not rude and all I wanted was the doctor to hear my side of the story and empathize with our emergency life events and that did not happen. This experience makes me feel like they don't value their patients and they obviously don't care about them either... I understand that the office doesn't want to loose money because they still have to pay their hygienists if a patient cancels, as I was told... but they should be more understanding if there are patients that are actually going through family emergencies like being at risk of evacuation because of a fire near their home or having your grandma be resuscitated and put on a ventilator, for the reason that you're having to cancel your appointments with them. Lastly, not given the opportunity to speak to someone higher than the "office manager/font office girls" just speaks loudly of the office itself. This experience was very irrational and just speak how poor their customer service is and how they lack of value towards their patients and compassion. read more

I don't even know where to begin but I am 100% certain that they are not trustworthy when it comes to their pricing. I was given several quotes. 1 for me and 1 for each of my 3 children. They at charges for things that they don't even do. For instance, the silver filling that they tell you they don't do in their office. Well that was on my estimate AS WELL AS the upcharge for the porcelain. When I questioned it, I was told "well, your insurance covers that", really? So you collect money for services that were not rendered THEN charge me for the porcelain as well and you get paid for both? And yes, I have my several written estimates with proof. Then moving on to one of my children. I compared their estimate to my insurance coverage and there was over a $1,000.00 discrepancy. I brought these issues to their attention several times and they made changes several times. As a professional, their office person should know how to charge correctly and when I asked why they were charging for services not rendered...."well that's what your insurance will pay" , I even told them that they can't charge for things they aren't doing. If you go, check their charges! Numerous visits and numerous complaints. Thank God I was able to change to a new dental group. Regarding my dental appointment on December 15, 2025, at North County Dental Care. I had a scheduled dental cleaning and, as has always been the case in the past, I expected to see Dr. Brown following my cleaning. I was not informed in advance that Dr. Brown would be unavailable. After my cleaning, I was seen instead by Dr. Edward Adourian, whom I had never met. At the time Dr. Adourian entered the room, I was seated in the dental chair facing the wall. He spoke from behind me, said hello, and did not come around so I could see him. I asked him his name, at which point he became noticeably annoyed and responded, "Dr. Edward." He remained behind me throughout the interaction. Dr. Adourian began reviewing my X-rays and immediately discussing recommended treatment. I informed him that I am deaf in my left ear and asked if he could show me what he was referring to on the X-rays, as Dr. Brown has always done. This request also appeared to irritate him. He opened my mouth and began rushing through a list of recommended procedures without explanation or visual reference. When I attempted to explain prior dental work I had already undergone, including a bone graft, he continued speaking over me and did not acknowledge my comments. I explicitly stated that he was not listening to me, which again seemed to anger him. Each time I tried to ask questions or clarify the proposed treatment, he spoke over me and rushed through the conversation. After leaving the room, I told the dental hygienist that I preferred to see only Dr. Brown and that I was uncomfortable with my interaction with Dr. Adourian. Dr. Adourian overheard this, returned to the room, and I calmly explained that Dr. Brown has always taken the time to show me my X-rays, listen to my concerns, and answer my questions. In response, Dr. Adourian became angry and stated that he did not want me in his office anymore. He rushed through the xrays. I reiterated that I only wished to see Dr. Brown. Dr. Adourian then left and instructed the front desk staff to dismiss me as a patient. When I went to the front desk to leave, the staff informed me that Dr. Adourian was dismissing me from the practice, that I would receive a letter, and that my records would be sent to another dentist upon request. The front office staff were apologetic and professional, and I became emotional and began to cry due to how upsetting the encounter had been. For context, I am a retired school administrator and therapist with a doctorate degree. I am well-versed in professional conduct, communication, and appropriate patient care. I have never been treated in such a dismissive, condescending, and unprofessional manner by a medical provider. Dr. Adourian's behavior demonstrated a lack of basic professional courtesy, patient-centered communication, and sensitivity to a documented hearing impairment. It appeared that he was unwilling to be questioned about treatment recommendations and did not take the time to introduce himself properly, face me, or engage in a respectful dialogue. This experience stands in stark contrast to the care and professionalism I have consistently received from Dr. Brown and other medical professionals throughout my life. read more

As someone who needs a ton of dental care, I have been through many dentists and know how hard it is to find a standard of care that equally balances patient comfort with excellent medicine. I've had several crowns done as well as a root canal, and visited their referral partner, an amazing endodontist of equal caliber. Every visit was positive. Dr Brown and Dr. Ed are both sweethearts and extremely informative, honest, and direct. All the support staff are great, especially Nadine, who manages the office. She takes a ton of time to make sure you feel cared for and understand time lines, payment options, and diagnosis, so you can plan for best outcomes friendly to your budget and health. This office takes Medi-Cal and advises on financing for patients without compromising on the quality of the work, which is another huge benefit. So grateful for all the care and highly recommend! Started out great, then took a turn to the same old, same old... They tell you that they take your secondary insurance for covered procedures. Then they revert to oh, it's going to take too long to get approved. So instead they give a quote for your out of pocket expenses. Because that they don't want to file through your secondary insurance company that clearly states that they cover at no charge. So, if you don't have excellent dental insurance better steer clear if your out of pocket budget is like mine. read more

I was referred to this place by a dentist and so far I have to say this place is very shady in terms of hiding prices from you. I called in to setup an appointment and asked for the pricing for wisdom tooth removal, but they were able to change the conversation to setting up an appointment. They called me back to confirm the appointment so I asked them again to verify the pricing, the lady on the phone insisted to come in to do the X-ray in order to figure out how much it would actually cost. I told the lady I needed to get a clear idea of what I'm getting into and call my insurance to verify the pricing, but the lady kept insisting me to come in and do the X-ray first. This is very unprofessional and it seems like they care about money than customer experience. It took me a few times to get her to tell me the average pricing for 4 wisdom teeth removal. I understand that you have to see what your working with, but you can not simply give me an estimate? People want to know what they are getting themselves into! I should have checked the reviews on here first and I will not be visiting this place EVER. I've been going here for about 2 months now and it's alright. The actual dentists, dental assistants, and hygienists are good. They are friendly and get the job done. However, the front desk/reception team I am not a fan of. They hid prices and just overall not friendly. My two daughters have been going here for at least 5+ years they've never done us wrong but we do have insurance and my kids are under 18.

The night of December 30th I cracked my tooth, it was very painful and I was embarrassed of my new look. My regular dentist was closed the next day due to New Years Eve... I was getting anxious that nobody would be able to see me but luckily North County Dental Care was one of the only dental offices open and able to see me so last minute! My first impression of the place was that it was very clean, friendly, and helpful. Overall I'm super happy and thankful for Dr. Joe and everyone else who took their time to really help me. I'd like to preface my review by stating I like going to the dentist. Really! Also, HMO dental plans are not ideal, I get that. I was assigned to this office, based on my residence. No biggie I thought. I was wrong... I made an appointment weeks in advance. The office facilities are clean, and the receptionist was warm and friendly. That's the good news! Bad News starts here... I expressed concern that my insurance plan (according to the app on my phone at least) meant I was responsible for 35% of the cost of X-Rays. However, the technician, in a stern manner, assured me that was a mistake. I wanted to double check that was factual, as my phone stated otherwise, and again, in a stern manner, I was told they were covered 100%, and in the worst-case scenario I would pay $55 out of pocket. OK... After X-Rays the Doctor came to see me. "Your teeth look great. Very nice." I had braces when I was a kid, and I take routine care of my teeth and gums, so this wasn't a big surprise to me. Here's where it gets interesting. I asked when I was going to get my teeth cleaned. The doctor then said, "oh, well, this is an examination. We don't normally clean on the first trip here." My immediate thought was that this place is wasting my time, because why would I want to take off more work? I'm here now, let's do the cleaning, please. Then the doctor said, "oh, wait, it looks like we made an exception for you." Gee, thanks? Because when I called and made my appointment I specifically asked for a cleaning. This is why I am here! Then the doctor tells me, "oh, well, you have gum disease! That's because you don't floss 2x a day every day!" Oh? I thought. I have routinely been seeing a dentist every six months for the past 30+ years, and now I have "gum disease?" But before I could question the doctor, and inform him I was taking excellent care of my teeth, he excused himself. In comes the abrasive and stern nurse who starts spouting off my treatment procedure. When she's done informing me of what I need to do, I was looking at a bill of $557...with insurance. And what makes it worse, is that it requires multiple trips, within a 6-week span. Ummmmm, what? A red flag went off in my head saying GET OUT OF THERE! I told the nurse this all sounded far too cumbersome, and that I wasn't prepared to be hit with over half a thousand dollars in treatments. When I said I wanted a second opinion the nurse appeared disgruntled, almost abrasive "Well that's the case." Defeated, I was led to a side room where I was handed paperwork + information regarding my "treatments." Again $557 with insurance, and $2,358 without insurance--as if I was getting a good deal. Then the nurse walked me out "there's water and coffee in the waiting room. Help yourself." Because A) making an appointment B) committing to the dental office and being there on time C) taking time off of work and D) leaving without a cleaning was all OK as long as I got my cup of coffee at 4:30pm. I called another dentist the following day, in order to get a second opinion on the matter. I spoke to a very nice receptionist, and when I was getting to the part about the proposed procedure she cut me off and said, "let me guess, they said you have gum disease, right?" "As a matter of fact they did," I replied. She then told me, "dental offices who offer treatments to HMO clients don't make a lot of money, so they resort to those kind of shady business tactics in order to recuperate costs. I worked in an office that did that to customers all the time, so I left. I didn't believe in that sort of practice; everyone should get the care they deserve." And I want to note this is coming from a Dental Office that can't accept me, on the account of my HMO. She was merely providing this information out of kindness. In the end I am saddened the North County Dental office treated me the way they did, and declined me for a cleaning; which is preventative care and covered 100% by my (and practically every dental insurance out there.) The uncharacteristic and shady business practices of using scare-tactics is unethical, and they should feel ashamed. I am looking for a much better experience, and a dentist who is not going to rip me or my insurance company off for costly cleaning procedures. read more

All I have to say is make sure you get a second opinion. This place tried telling me and my wife we needed work that we didn't. We went and got a second opinion (paid out of pocket) from a reputable family dentist and they confirmed they tried to upsell us for stuff we didn't need (9 extra non-existing cavities, unneeded deep cleanings, etc). They insist through the whole process "we will honor this price" and sure enough here come more bills months later. Dishonest And shady in my opinion. I changed to North County Dental Care after my previous provider passed away and have been really happy with the service. I take good care of my gums but because I have twelve crowns on my front teeth I am prone to gum disease. I try to go four times a year even though my insurance only pays for two cleanings per year. The price seems fair and the hygienist is thorough. Trust me, I've been getting my teeth cleaned for a while and you can feel the difference when a hygienist really gets under your gums to scrape all the plaque away. Dr Joe is friendly and efficient. So far my check-ups have been good and I feel I can trust his opinion. I'm sure if I needed something he would recommend it but I really did not feel like the office was trying to up-sell services to me as others have stated. The office is clean and tidy. The front desk was empty briefly when I arrived but the office manger checked me in efficiently as soon as she arrived. The staff I interacted with were all friendly and they seem to get along well. I live in Carlsbad and would recommend North County Dental Care to anyone in the North San Diego County area. read more

I strongly recommend Dr Laluz at NCDentalcare. I live in the Bay Area, but was visiting friends in Carlsbad when the horror happened: my front tooth crown broke at lunch ! I found NCDentalcare on Yelp. They gave me an appointment with Dr Laluz first thing in the morning. He was very helpful and proposed their Cerec system, a computer assisted technique that saved a lot of time. I got the new crown in place the same day ! NO STARS!!! I never made it into this office because of the HORRIBLE, RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL service I received just making an appointment. Penny should be fired because customer service is not for her and I'm sure I'm not the only patient she has displayed a rude and unprofessional attitude to. First, I tried scheduling appointments for my entire family of 5 on one day due to work. She tells me they have a policy of how many family members can be seen in one day, so we had be split into 2 days - the 4th and 5th of the next month. Since there was nothing I can do about the policy, I agreed to that. She called me back a couple days later and said there was insufficient staff on one of the days and we were all now going to be seen on the 5th. Guess there really isn't a policy about family members being seen on the same day, only when it's convenient for them. however, I'm not complaining because that's what I initially wanted. I call today to verify we are all going to be seen on the 5th because I got a text reminder for my kid's appt for the 4th. Penny's ignorant and incompetent self rudely tells me "NO YOU'RE ALL ON THE 5TH, I KNOW, I SCHEDULED THE APPT!" we went back n forth about disagreeing with the rescheduled day and she says "why would I tell you the 5th if it was the 4th?" really? how the f*** am I supposed to answer for your stupidity??!! Anyways, I spoke with her supervisor Debbie who I don't think is her supervisor but how the hell am I supposed to verify that? Put in a complaint that I know isn't going to go anywhere because it seems like they do whatever they want in that front office. If the doctors there are as talented as I've read, it's unfortunate the front staff are so horrible to patients that are not even willing to come to this office because of their customer service. Penny - It's not that hard to speak nicely and professional to people. If you can't get it right, get a job that requires no communication. I would love to have seen you in person to see if you're bold enough to be talking to people like that to their faces. If I could give this office a negative 10 I would. I recently went to see the endodontist there. Before I went to my appointment I called and gave the receptionist my insurance information. This office is contracted with my insurance. when I got there, they had a endodontist that was not contracted with my insurance do the exam. I did not know at the time, that this endodontist was not contracted with my dental plan. I have PPO insurance so I can go anywhere, but if I go to a contracted dentist My insurance pays more. the next day I got my estimate by email. The total estimate was $2310. for a root canal. My portion was $713. So I called my insurance and was told that only one icd code was covered and the rest were not. At this point I called several other dental offices and their estimates came in at 1/3 of the cost North County Dental was charging. I called back spoke to Peggy, asked her to pre-authorize my treatment and she flew off the handle. She stated she was already giving me a discount, and if she has to pre-authorize my treatment the cost will be more then what she quoted me and she will charge me then higher amount. At this point I told her "Then I'm going somewhere else". I called the office and spoke to the office manager Debbie Connoly. She apologized for what happened and she would take if upnwith Peggy. I asked to speak to the owner Dr Edwards. Debbie said he was not in. I called back the next day left a msg. No call back. Debbie called and said that the doctor wanted to know if I wanted to add anything else to my complaint. I told Debbie I simply wanted to speak to the owner. That never happened. I ended up going to the office of Stuart Chang DDS. in VIsta. They were professional explained everything to me and my estimate was $828. My out of pocket was $196.
