I had to have a tooth removed in January and didn't think I was going to be an implant candidate due to too much bone loss. Between the oral surgeon and Dr Murayama they were able to place bone graft and provide me with an implant! I had such a great experience yesterday and I have no pain today. Thank you so much to Dr Murayama and Arely for their outstanding care. I have been going here for over 13 years and I have not experienced what others are saying here so not sure why they have a bad experience. The last time I reviewed Quarry Creek Dental, I was critical. But new information has moved me to pissed off. At that time I was upset about the new dentist who was so focused on drilling as a prelude to a filling that he destroyed the tooth. That is the first and only loss I've ever had. I had 32 teeth. Now I have 31. But this latest screw up revealed that I need a replacement crown that QC dental did in 2023. Insurance won't pay for it because they're supposed to last 8 years. I had been to a few dentists for a cap on tooth number two and found that these people were charging three times what everybody else was. I felt like I was at an auto mechanic getting scammed by adding fictitious fees for non-needed services. There were charging extra services that weren't needed, and there co-pay was more than what it was for just an out-of-pocket from other dentists without using insurance. They were even pressuring me to act and move on this which I found disgusting. I have Delta Insurance who claimed this is the only provider that I could use in my area. I'll be canceling Delta Dental and won't be going to Quarry Creek again. read more

I feel that Dr. Murayama needs to work on how he communicates with his patients. My last few visits to this office consisted of me needing to come back multiple times to have my nightguard adjusted. This wasn't the office's fault by any means, but they made sure to show how annoyed they were with me for requesting to come back again and again. Dr. Murayama spoke to me like I was an idiot. I ended up bringing my husband with me to my appointments and had him sit in the room with me while interacting with Dr. Murayama because I was not comfortable being there alone. My husband agreed he did not like the way he spoke to me. I previously had a nightguard made with this office and really liked how that one fit, so when I told Dr. Murayama this, he responded by saying "that is like asking to repeat the past." Um... no. That is me saying I like how my previous one fit and I'd like my current one to fit comfortably as well. Also, what an odd comment to make. He agreed to adjust the nightguard but since he was seeing me on a Friday that I would have to wait to pick it up till Monday because he "wasn't going to come in on a weekend just to fix this." Yes Doc, your office is closed on the weekends- I had no expectations for you to come in on your time off to do this- that rude comment was unnecessary. When I went back to pick up the nightguard, I did not even see the dentist. The front office staff handed it to me in a paper bag. The dentist knew how uncomfortable this nightguard was for me, the least he could have done it let me try it on with him. Instead, the front office staff said I could go try it on in the bathroom. At one point Dr. Murayama said that he could either try adjusting the mouthguard again or he could have the lab re-make it. I asked him what he recommended, and he responded saying "I don't know, people are usually not this picky about a nightguard." RUDE. UNPROFESSIONAL. Apparently a patient wanting relief from TMJ and bruxism is being picky. Super disappointed in this office and the lack of professionalism. The only reason I kept coming back was because I paid some money out of pocket for this nightguard and this was the only office that could readjust it since they issued it. Some of the dental assistants at this office are rude too. This staff needs training in therapeutic communication with patients. I have gone to Quarry Creek Dental Group for 13 years and usually saw Dr. Dart all the time, who I really liked...but then he retired (miss you); but I really also like my new Dentist who is Dr. Omar Dwider. Dr. Dwider is very nice, explains everything to me along with the things I need to keep doing or improve on. He is a great addition to Quarry Creek. I'd also like to thank my Hygienist, Cory. I have seen Cory for a long time and feel that he, too, is very nice and does a great job cleaning my teeth and also giving me advice on what I should be doing or what is working well. If I could do less than 1 it would be negative 5! Why? Poor service, made my lip bleed while scanning teeth for a plate. Pulled my lip so hard it ripped the skin apart. While being worked on like a car in the garage two men pulled out my tooth like I was a carburetor, then shoved a plate in my mouth said bite down then left. I went home without any instructions on how to take care of my mouth, I had to call and ask for instructions. They tried to offer a pull one of my teeth its completely fine, $2500 without insurance, $1100 with. I compared online and Other local dentist were less that $500 without insurance. Let me start by saying that I am terrified of the dentist. I have a lifetime of bad experiences and shoddy work. But I knew something was wrong with one of my molars so I made an appointment. Dr. Muryama was recommended to me by a friend so I reached out to schedule. The experience over the phone was efficient and pleasant. I gave my availability and they helped me find something that worked. After the cleaning (which was pain free easy) and checkup, it was confirmed that I had in infection and my tooth needed to pulled. Again, I am very nervous at the dentist and tend to think of them as Snake Oil salesmen but Dr. Muryama made me feel calm and understood. He explained what was going on but did not make me feel scared nor did he blame me for poor oral hygiene. We discussed out of pocket vs insurance costs and he was forthright about the pros and cons of each. We also discussed whether or not I'd be able to handle the procedure emotionally and the cost-benefit of bringing in an oral surgeon and full anesthesia. Ultimately, I felt that Dr. Murayama was the first dentist that made me feel like I could trust him, so I decided to go with him and no anesthesia. He did express that it would worsen and suggested I come back to have the tooth pulled ASAP. When his openings didn't match mine, he offered to start early in order to get me in on a schedule that worked for me. The day of he helped me to feel relaxed and at ease and even allowed my fiancee to be in the room with me to help me emotionally. After an initial pinch with the lidocaine injection, I actually felt nothing during the procedure (a first in my dental experience). He chatted with me amicably during and kept my spirits up. Afterwards, he gave me a care plan that has allowed healing to be quick and pain free. Dr. Muryama has my business for life and Quarry Creek Dental Group is better for having him. I, like many others, had bad experiences here. After paying $600 for a "deep" cleaning, I was referred to their specialist. After my exam, I was told that I needed "gum plaining". As I had just had this done a year ago at another orthodontist I was more than shocked. The "dentist " came back in to discuss the finances and said that they could discount it to $5,500! It had cost me less than $2000 a year ago! He didn't blink when I told him that I had just had the procedure done. I went for a checkup and cleaning from my regular orthodontist this week and was told that my gums were in excellent condition! Rushed me along and did not go over any of my concerns. I left office with bleeding gums from probing in regards to gum conditions. Did not offer mouth wash. Did not go over any of my x rays or treatments that I could have for my gum conditons. The bill for cleaning was 3,000.00 and the bill was explained in a hurried manner. They require far too many xray, even though it's " free" who needs that many xrays? Clearly they keep pushing for extra work outside of what insurance pays to collect $$$. Unfortunately myself and family members have had bad experiences at this location. My experience - they just want money. First the dentist was rude. When I asked if he would be doing the procedures he JUST described same day, he kept asking me what procedure. You're the doctor, how are you asking me and making me feel like an idiot. He told me I needed things (that were not needed and more expensive... 2nd AND 3rd opinions told me I didn't need!) Then came the quotes and I went into sticker shock, and the woman from the front was cold and unprofessional. When I contacted my insurance in regards to the quotes they gave me, they investigated because it also seemed overpriced. Insurance told me the woman at the front was rude and would not help at all. After this whole ordeal, I learn that my mom went to this office and the endodontist suggested a root canal and performed it, only for it to be botched and requiring extensive fixing after from another dentist. Shout out to Dr. Murayama - he did a crown for me last week. I have a poorly understood metabolic condition (parathyroid) which relates to calcium absorption (bones, teeth etc.) and I shared this with Dr. Murayama since it involved throat surgery last summer which limits my neck mobility somewhat. The surgery "cured" the original disorder (hyperparathyroidism) but created a potential new disorder (hypoparathyroidism) which I explained to him. He took the time to listen to my story and unlike so many rushed medical people, really engaged with me and listened. He commented that he had heard of the disorder but I was his first patient to have it. It's only indirectly related to dentistry, but even MDs generally blow this off or automatically think "thyroid" which is totally different. It was good to feel understood and respected. This is the first review I have ever left but I feel this is very important that I share my experience with this dental office to warn others. PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE REVIEW BEFORE CONSIDERING USING THIS DENTAL OFFICE. I have been a patient at Quarry Creek for years and followed all their recommendations because I trusted them and unfortunately my family and I are now paying the price for that. In early 2021, I went into Quarry Creek for a sore tooth. I had just had a baby and after having a previous root canal after delivering my older child, I was very proactive and went in as soon as I started feeling discomfort. No issues were identified. The pain however continued and got so bad that I had to make an emergency appointment where they determined I needed a root canal. The root canal was scheduled and they brought in their endodontist to do the work. For those that do not know, at the end of a root canal, they take an xray to verify that the 4 roots have all been treated completely. The xrays were taken, they performed my crown and sent me on my way. After a week, I was still in pain. I called in and they said to give it more time. The pain continued and got worse. I went in again and they adjusted my crown. The pain continued to get worse and I had to schedule another emergency appointment. During this appointment, they took more xrays and then determined that I needed an additional root canal on the tooth next to the original root canal that was done months prior. I booked an appointment for the new root canal to be completed but left feeling uneasy. I made an appointment with my moms dentist who lives an hour away because I needed someone I could trust. During his second opinion, he took xrays and IMMEDIATELY determined that the original root canal they "completed" was in fact, INCOMPLETE. There were two roots COMPLETELY untreated which was the clear reason for my extreme pain. I was referred to a new endodontist and had the root canal completed the next day. It cost me $1900 out of pocket because Quarry Creek had used all of my insurance for that calendar year. My new endodontist was so concerned by what happened that she actually contacted Quarry Creek on my behalf. I have since been in communication with Quarry Creek for the last 2 months. I have done everything I possibly can to work with them to correct their clear mistake but they have yet to rectify it. I have asked them to either reimburse me for my out of pocket expenses for my repair OR at least reimburse my insurance for the work they never completed. They are asking me to sign a document stating I will not sue them and are refusing to reimburse me until I do. I waited to write this review because I wanted to give them the opportunity to make this situation right but they clearly aren't capable of doing the right thing. This is insurance fraud and honestly terrifying that they are running their business like this. Would they have performed a root canal on a tooth that didn't need it? Or were they scheduling me to repair the one they didn't complete they didn't complete in the first place? My husband is a firefighter. We have a 6 year old, 4 year old and a 1 year old. We do not have an extra $2,000 and have had to put my dental work on a credit card. Quarry Creek has taken advantage of my family and I hope this review will help prevent someone else from experiencing the same. read more

My insurance switched me to this dentist. I regularly have my teeth clean to keep my dental health in check. I insisted for a cleaning appointment, they book me one directly after an exam. Insisted on an exam before a cleaning. Fine. Dr. Dart is very through and agreed with my cleaning plan, he earns a 5 star. Then the manager comes in and says I can have a cleaning next week. They cancel my today appt because they wait for an exam to determine when to do a cleaning!!! I waited a month to get this appt. For the past week I endured harassing calls about getting a copy of my insurance card ahead of time, which I did not have. The lies, harassment and refusing to give me care when I scheduled appointments earns the staff a zero star rating. My partner warned me the staff will screw with you. They did his cleaning, he said he could not pay any more than his insurance covered. After the cleaning they handed him at $130 bill for the extra treatments done that they felt he should have, no warning of costs to be incurred. He had to pay before he left. read more

Terrible experience. They will try to sell you services that are not covered by your insurance. In my case, they assured me that I needed a $195 special cleaning not covered by my insurance. I pushed back and politely asked for the basic cleaning that is 100% covered. The dentist and her assistant became very cold and dismissive. The cleaning was done in less than 5min and was VERY rough! I left with blood still on my chin. The entire experience felt like a scam and was extremely uncomfortable. Well, tbh i was skeptical when reading the reviews about this place as they were not that great (or a mixed bag if you will). but my experience has been amazing so far (i saw so far so that in the event of a bad experience in the future ,i can alter my rating) it was one fluid and friendly experience. i don't care if it's fake or real , it's exactly what i needed and it worked! went in, was seen immediately and in and out within an hour as smooth as butter , feeling great and not having any issues with my teeth afterwards. i will say, like others have pointed out , there are mainly dentists assistants in there (a dentists does appear but then vanishes into thin air), but they are REALLY good at what they do , and tbh, that's all i want.. i would rather have someone do something right the first time instead of having to come back over and over again to get it fixed. overall i HIGHLY RECOMMEND this dental office as of this review. read more

Before we discovered Quarry Creek (which is SO close to my old place), I used to go to an Asian dentist in Mira Mesa (and the Carlsbad Family Dental Group prior). My experience at CFDG was horrible - wait was always long even if I arrive early for my appointment, most of the staff was very disrespectful, & I just felt crappy every time I go there. By the time I changed to the Mira Mesa dentist since it was closer to school, it felt much more personal. It was a private practice so the dentist knew me by name; however, I always thought the office was very old and needed some change/new tools. I was blown away my very first time at Quarry Creek - it wasn't for me, it was for my sister's wisdom teeth extraction. The office looked small and quaint from the front entrance; however, there are many exam rooms with brand-new looking machines and tools AND computerized systems. I was so impressed with everything that I decided to start seeing them for my dental needs. My very first visit last year went very smoothly with absolutely no issues & the dentist/hygienist/X-ray tech were all very friendly. I had the same experience a few weeks ago when I went again for my 6-month check-up, AND the dentist remembered all the details we spoke about at our last visit (granted, he could have taken down notes but it's impressive that he made it a priority to learn about his patients & actually remember them). Unfortunately, I'm now in the bay area and will never get to experience the excellence Quarry Creek provides...I'm currently searching for a place in the bay area & I'm definitely using Quarry Creek as the standard of excellence! read more

Unethical. The denstist was pushy with "extra" services (like laser cleaning) that aren't covered by insurance. When I said I prefer the regular cleaning, they spent less than a minute doing it. The dentist also said that I need 3 fillings. I got a second opinion from another dentist, who didn't see a need for ANY fillings. Wow-- how awful that they are this greedy. read more

My husband called the office yesterday (February 22nd) to see a dentist because his new crown cracked and fell apart and eventually fell out. The Dentist told us that's too bad and would charge us for a new crown. We don't have insurance and feel they should have taken some responsibility for the crown breaking. Also, I had 6 crown put in, in two bridges. I told the dentist (Dr. Piper whom I really liked) and told him if he didn't do a one unit bridge the teeth would split between my teeth. Well, it did create a split and he was more than happy to redo the crowns into one bridge, I declined because of the pain and suggested if after 6 more months we could see if the split got worse and we could do a retainer. I went back to Quarry to find that Dr. piper was no longer there and the current money hungry Dr. Didn't care and said he would have to charge me for a new retainer. I would not recommend this dentist. He is only concerned about his wallet, not his patients. I should mention we are seniors on a limited income with no dental insurance. I feel like I'm losing faith in good, quality dentist offices, so here's my little concern about Quarry Creek Dental Group in Oceanside, CA. I've contemplated on writing a critical review about this office, but I hope my feedback will result in the decision for Quarry Creek Dental Group to train their dental assistants/hygienists in basic professionalism and patience in order to best serve their clients. My first visit to Quarry Creek Dental Group seemed warm and welcoming; however, about a year ago there was a particular dental hygienist that was not at all gentle with my teeth and gums. I can't recall her name, but I was uncomfortable throughout the entire process. In addition, her personality seemed a bit cold, which did not make the experience any better. I take pretty good care of my teeth, but it was an overall uncomfortable experience. When I called to address my concern, I had hoped to be switched to someone who is more "gentle" with teeth. Unfortunately, the lady on the phone said other people have addressed concerns with someone else being less gentle with their teeth. At least the lady at the front was being honest with me...knowing that their staff is not gentle with their patients' teeth. Again, I don't want to throw anyone under the bus, but it was important that I addressed these concerns. One good thing I liked about this office is that it's clean and open. read more

I went to Quarry Creek because my Insurance changed through work and I needed a teeth cleaning. When I went in the Dentist that I saw told me 2 of my teeth has significant cracks and one had a cavity and I needed to have them fixed. The total for both of them was $1200. The cleaning would have been free, but I trusted him and allowed them to create new fillings for my teeth. Now here comes the nightmare... When they were numbing my mouth they stuck the needle in the roof of my mouth(I have never had this done before), and it was SO INCREDIBLY PAINFUL I started shaking and having a panic attack. At no point in time did they stop and ask me if I was ok or even warn me about what they were about to do. I spend 8 hours at the dentist with my mouth open while they drilled out my two molars...at the 5 hour the lidocaine started to ware off. I told my dentist that I could feel parts of my mouth and he DID NOT NUMB ME AGAIN!!!!! So for another 3 hours they drilled and filled my teeth...and I was in pain. When I left I was so incredibly upset... I called back and talked to the manager over the phone and told her my experience, I didn't feel like they really cared at all. FAST FORWARD 3 MONTHS LATER and I can no longer chew on the right side of my mouth(I hadn't been able to since they worked on it), so I decide to go in to my old dentist and have them look at it because I know I could trust him. They took X-rays of my teeth and guess what...THE CAVITY IS STILL THERE AND THE TOOTH QUARRY CREEK WAS SUPPOSED TO FIX CHIPPED OFF!!!! My Dr was completely furious that quarry did that to my teeth, he called them and sent them my X-rays. As soon as I left I called and asked for my money back, the person in charge danced around the subject and tried their best not to refund me. Finally they agreed they needed to refund my procedure. BUT I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY REFUND TO MY ACCOUNT. And now I have to spend thousands of dollars to fix was Quarry Creek doctors messed up. If you value your teeth DO NOT GO HERE!!! Dr. Dart is warm hearted and sincere with what work is necessary and what isn't. Such a change from other past experiences elsewhere! I felt that the individuals at Quarry Creek put people above profit and integrity above all. As someone who usually avoids the dentist, I'm actually looking forward to future dental visits because they are so trustworthy and not all about their own gain, which has become most prevalent in the competitive field of dentistry. Alex Pijpaert is a very nice person and I'm sure a qualified dentist. However, Quarry Creek Dental does not have my vote for a quality practice. When I made my initial appointment I let the receptionist know all I wanted was a cleaning. I did not want X rays or anything else. I even emailed them my previous digital X rays from 6 months earlier. When I arrived I waited over 20 minutes to be seen. The dentist met with me in his office to go over why I was there. Again, all I wanted was a cleaning and no X rays. He began to tell me that any work they do on my mouth would not be justified unless I had proper X rays (obviously a ploy to get more money from the insurance company). Of course, my previous X rays were not proper enough. 55 minutes later, I'm sitting in a lonely dental room in an uncomfortable chair with only X rays done. No one had even touched my teeth. After a total time of an hour and a half waiting, I walked out. A simple 20 minute cleaning turned into a bad review, a lost customer, and zero work done to my mouth. This place feels like a local business that went public on the stock exchange and turned mediocre only to have the stock holders interests in mind. Feels like it's "made in China".
