I love coming here when in Oside and love taking a stroll down to pier and back. Ive been here a few times already and each time I am here, I can't help but feel so much joy in my heart. There is something about crashing waves, the scent of salt water, seeing big beautiful shore birds like majestic pelicans fly overhead that brings such calm and happiness within. This view never gets old! Next time I am here, I am going to make it a point to do some jogging by the beach as I really wanted to bolt up and down the pier and pick up the pace a bit more. I saw plenty of people here walking, jogging, fishing, enjoying life. When I was here last, there was also a musician performing, thats always nice to see. I also kept an eye out for the surfers out here and got a good video of one of the surfers catching a wave. I'll definitely be coming back here, over and over again! read more

It was busy on a Sunday afternoon and as we got closer signs began popping up at motel and vacant lots charging $10 and more to park. We drove the area and found metered parking at a reasonable rate with a short walk to the pier. The strand along the beach was crazy busy, allowing cars and the family style 5 seater bicycles along with any other rental to ride there as well. You can access beach parking from the strand, but the drive can be super slow and frustrating when caught behind a group of bicycles. We enjoyed the views on our walk down the pier. It was a beautiful day and a lot of people were enjoying the beach. The pier is fairly long and it was a nice walk after eating at one of the restaurants nearby. There is a small store and restrooms on the pier. Lots of people fishing and it was really cool getting a close up pic of the pelican. read more

OCEANSIDE PIER is my CHILDHOOD! I remember coming here for Math field trips when I was in school, we would have sand castle battles and measure the geometric shapes of sand castle structures. Ikr, totally nerdy, but they were good times and I can say O-side helped me come to like algebra. Stories aside, the pier is perfect. It's got sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and its majestic waves. You'll spot pelicans and other feathered friends perched with locals. Sometimes there's entertainers and poets offering unforgettable memories for tourists and regulars alike. Forgot something? There's a booth by the lifeguard tower with snacks, coffee, hot cocoa, and fishing items. REMEMBER: Don't FEED the sea creatures, they'll walk all over you if you do! read more

This is such a nice walk. It's not too hard to park in the area and it's a pretty easy walk. I have a friend renting a place for a month on the beach and was visiting. After getting donuts nearby, a walk was definitely necessary. It was a beautiful November day and there was lots of people out and about walking and fishing as well as surfing. I like that you can walk halfway across the pier and look down at the surfers catching waves below. It's fun to watch. There are birds everywhere and lots of pelicans and seagulls for photo ops. The walk isn't very long and there's information along the sides. Like a land survey that you can use the QR code stick your camera in the stand they have and take a photo which is sent to the land surveyors. What a great way to keep an eye on the coastline. Unfortunately, due to a fire, you can no longer go all the way to the end, but we are all waiting to see what the new renovation will look like. It's such a pretty walk. The surface is a bit uneven so be prepared if you are with someone who has a little bit of difficulty walking. At night it's lit up by lights, but walking by day is preferable. read more

Oceanside Pier is a must-visit place if you're in the area. It's walking distance to many nearby restaurants and bars, and is even near the vintage house that was featured in the original Top Gun film. There's not much to at the pier itself, but I think the simplicity is what makes the experience that much more special. The sunset, ocean water, and horizon is a view that's worthy of a long gazing. I did see a lot of families with young kids fishing and patiently waiting for something to happen. What I liked about the pier is that it didn't feel like a typical touristy/trendy pier, but rather a spot where locales take walks and relax. It's kind of like the no frill pier you can visit anytime - nothing really flashy here but the sight of old wooden pier, with plenty of walkway to conquer, through the end of the pier. Perfect to relax and for people watching, as well as the regulars who come out to this pier to catch some fish. It does have a little bit of odor here, probably from all the fishing that's done here. But the smell of the ocean will overwhelm you in a good way. Very close by to the local shops and hotels in the vincnity. After dinner at a nearby restaurant, we were feeling pretty full and decided to walk it off with a stroll down the pier. It ended up being such a nice walk. Right at the beginning of the pier there's a small hamburger cart. If I hadn't already been stuffed, I definitely would've grabbed a burger to enjoy during the walk. There were lots of families with kids, people fishing, and even a few people who brought their dogs despite the signs saying not to. About halfway down the pier there's a small bait shop where you can pick up fishing supplies and a few other items. We even spotted a pelican hanging around like it was posing for photos, which was pretty funny. Near the end of the pier, a section is fenced off because it was damaged during the big storms. Even with that area closed, the walk was still really enjoyable. We caught a beautiful sunset and watched the waves along the way. Definitely a nice, relaxing place for an evening stroll. read more

One of my favorite places to go to. I've Been frequenting the O'side pier since my childhood. There have been lots of changes to the surrounding area and most recently to the pier itself ... IYKYK. Reaching out at 1954 feet, Oceanside Pier is the longest wooden over-water pier on the west coast of the United States. Built-in 1888, this pier had it's fair share of ups & downs. The original was destroyed by storms in the winter of 1890, and was rebuilt in 1893. Four more iterations of the pier were built and then destroyed by heavy storms throughout the decades. The current pier was built and formally opened to the public in 1987. In April (2024), the Ruby's diner at the end of the pier, caught fire and destroyed the structure. Rebuilding is set to be completed by 2027. You can still walk most the pier and enjoy the view. We always make a stop at the pier when we are in town. Definitely worth a visit. read more

We did an overnight in Oceanside last weekend, just for a change in scenery, and the Oceanside Pier provided a lot of that change. The pier is the pride of the city, and is apparently the longest over-water pier on the West Coast. It has a lot of history, too. The current iteration opened in 1987, but the pier was first built in 1888. Turns out wooden piers are susceptible to both storms and fire. The pier is almost 2,000 feet long, and we spent a good half hour just exploring it with our kids. They ran around and climbed the slatted walls and tower viewers, and we all enjoyed taking in the sights. It was peaceful over the ocean, and views of the city were spectacular. The people watching was fun, too. There was a decent crowd, tourists and locals out walking, and dozens of fishermen lined up along both sides of the pier. An okay musician sang and played his guitar. There was one kiosk selling trinkety souvenirs, but that was it for commerce. I gather there was once a diner at the end of the pier, but it closed in 2021 and burned down in a major fire in 2024. Thankfully, the pier survived that one. We made good use of the playground, too, located right by the pier entrance. It was nice and vibrant, with lots of families getting in some beachy outdoor time in spite of the cold. The play equipment seemed well kept, and there were separate structures for younger and older kids, not that they all stayed in their designated areas. My boys loved the swing set facing the ocean, and honestly, who wouldn't? I didn't love the amount of sand we took home, or the tone-deaf woman who sang and blasted Christian music (honestly couldn't tell if she was busking or out of her mind), but otherwise, this was a lovely playground. We had a great time in Oceanside, and a lot of it centered on the pier. It was a pleasant place to relax while entertaining our children, and we all look forward to another breezy visit. read more

Always a good time coming to the pier and the beach. Popular beach as it's the closest beach to the IE but it chills out at night which is when i like to go. A great spot to go fishing! I bring my wife here since she doesn't have a fishing license. Now that the OB pier is under construction, this is the place to be for pier fishermen. It can get pretty busy so you might have trouble finding a spot to fish. But once we find a spot, we're there for hours enjoying a good time. You can find free parking if you're patient around the residential part of downtown. Also the funnel cake at the bottom of the pier is delicious! read more

I really enjoy visiting the Oceanside Pier. It's almost 2000' long, making it the longest pier on the West Coast. IMHO it's one of the nicest piers in California. Walk out to the end of the pier and enjoy a fabulous view up and down the coast. Street parking is metered ($1.50 per hour) with strict enforcement. Let me begin by saying that we were there before the sun rose, and it rose bright and brilliant first thing in the morning. I think that has a lot to do with our experience on the beach. The pier is absolutely delightful! It is beautiful, very easy to walk, even has some bathrooms on the pier along your way to the end. Know that when you arrive at 6 AM when the parking lot opens, there are already tons of people out on the pier with their canopies, Porta cribs, babies screaming in the cribs, and tons of fishing lines. You won't be able to stop at the last quarter of the pier to take in a good view unless you're standing behind somebody with a fishing line. read more

I love Oceanside's pier. It is old, but tall and stable! At the end of the pier there is Ruby's Diner, a cute place to eat at by yourself or with others. There are fishermen along the pier and a little bait shop where you can rent rods. There are some homeless people yelling at the cops, but hey, it happens. It's pretty long (1,954 feet) and is located right next to downtown Oceanside. You can see it from pretty far away. The original pier at this location was constructed in 1888. It has been rebuilt a few times since then. No matter the time of day, there is always all sorts of activity going on here. Fishing is allowed off the pier without a license. There also used to be a Ruby's Diner at the end of the pier, but it permanently closed due to the COVID pandemic. I recently caught a late night movie and walked over here and enjoyed the ocean at night. The pier is pretty well lit but closes up at 10pm. Skateboarding isn't allowed unless you are a rebel like me. read more

Gross, Overtaken by Fishermen! Oceanside Pier visits have been a family tradition, but not anymore until they can limit fishing!! The entire pier is taken over by fishermen, strange people and the homeless! Every seating area has fishermen camped out, for the entire day!! We walked the pier twice and it was just disgusting!! You can't really walk around anywhere because each fisherman has several fishing poles, and the poles are set out all along the pier, especially at the end. If you can find an area to look over the ocean, the wood railing is soaked in worms, bait, fish skin and guts!! It's disgusting! This is not a tourist area or an area to view the ocean, it's a fishing platform!! If you're walking around, all the fishermen glare as you pass! Until they can limit fishermen or make designated areas for walkers, it's not worth your time!!! Walk on the beach instead!! read more

What an amazing stroll down the beach at Oceanside pier we had on a Sunday in 10/2022. I knew we had to travel up north while picking up items for an event and wanted a walk along the beach but never imagined that Oceanside was this family friendly and beautiful. You leave downtown Oceanside bars and restaurants to stroll downstairs to an amazing beautiful palm tree arrangement and boardwalk that is not where it ends... there is a playground on the beach front!!!! Not to mention Raspados, ice cream and shaved ice. The pier was full of people taking pictures both underneath and on top to capture the day. It was a bit overcast unfortunately but still warm! We will definitely venture back for another stroll and enjoy the scenery and friendly family atmosphere. It appeared everyone was spaced out and respected one anothers space, instead of cramming people on top of each other like other places along the coast. Highly recommend a stroll! What a wonderful pier! Great view from both underneath the structure and when you walk on it. Due to the overcast weather, the pier seemed more crowded than the the actual beach this weekend. As you walk down the pier, you will see the usual fishermen, but what makes this pier worth visiting is the birdwatching. There are the usual pigeons and seagulls, but there are also pelicans and snowy egrets. There was one snowy egret just hanging around one of the fishermen, who obviously must have been thrown a fish or two. I kept staring at his yellow feet. If birds aren't your thing, there's also a Ruby's restaurants at the end of the pier. Outdoor dining only, due to covid, but the line to dine is long. read more
