What an amazing stroll down the beach at Oceanside pier we had on a Sunday in 10/2022. I knew we had to travel up north while picking up items for an event and wanted a walk along the beach but never imagined that Oceanside was this family friendly and beautiful. You leave downtown Oceanside bars and restaurants to stroll downstairs to an amazing beautiful palm tree arrangement and boardwalk that is not where it ends... there is a playground on the beach front!!!! Not to mention Raspados, ice cream and shaved ice. The pier was full of people taking pictures both underneath and on top to capture the day. It was a bit overcast unfortunately but still warm! We will definitely venture back for another stroll and enjoy the scenery and friendly family atmosphere. It appeared everyone was spaced out and respected one anothers space, instead of cramming people on top of each other like other places along the coast. Highly recommend a stroll! What a wonderful pier! Great view from both underneath the structure and when you walk on it. Due to the overcast weather, the pier seemed more crowded than the the actual beach this weekend. As you walk down the pier, you will see the usual fishermen, but what makes this pier worth visiting is the birdwatching. There are the usual pigeons and seagulls, but there are also pelicans and snowy egrets. There was one snowy egret just hanging around one of the fishermen, who obviously must have been thrown a fish or two. I kept staring at his yellow feet. If birds aren't your thing, there's also a Ruby's restaurants at the end of the pier. Outdoor dining only, due to covid, but the line to dine is long. read more

The Oceanside Pier is one of those long standing community center points. It is one of those locations that the entire city is developed around. This is a very long and architecturally beautiful pier. The pillars that hold this pier erect are composed of aged wood giving the entire structure both an ancient and majestic look. It really looks like what you expect a pier should look like. This pier is a place of recreation, leisure, and dining. There is a Ruby's restaurant at the end of the pier for those of you who want to grab a bite to eat. Most of the people on this pier, however, are here to either walk, jog, enjoy the ocean air, or fish over the sides of the pier. It is all of those things that you expect a Southern California pier to be. This is really beautiful pier that is frequent by both locals of the community and tourists traveling to the city. Strolling a pier is one of my absolute favorite things to do. I particularly love the Oceanside Pier, especially in the early mornings. Grab a cup of tea (or coffee) from Pier View, just down the street, and head over here for a walk. There's decent street parking in the area (as long as you come early). Plenty of bathrooms adjacent to the pier. Nice for sunsets but also for watching the sun rise in the distance. 2022: 90/100 read more

This is a favorite SoCal Pier for sure. There are names carved all along the side - I assume they are donors of the pier and not an act of vandalism since they are all uniform. I saw what could have been celebrity names, but most excitingly I did see and Anne F. I was with a friend who "found their name too". Makes for a fun little game while walking to the end. The pier is pretty long and gives you a great view. I always come down to walk it when I'm in the area for one of the bars or restaurants nearby. (Most recently Carte Blanche - YUM). There's plenty of space to spread out and share the view. It's a must see in OSide. read more

I'd love to have more time and maybe stay in the area because this pier was fun to be at. We stopped by for a 30 min walk about on our way home and it was a welcome detour. Watching the people surf under you, the birds dive for fish or poop clouds of white, the groups of leisure fishers along side the serious fishermen are among some of the things you can do and see at and around this pier. There are a few food places, like everyone holding a shake from Ruby's or Tin Fish under the pier. Parking was interesting as they are doing construction at the moment but we were lucky to have someone pull out and give us his remaining 1 hour meter. read more

This is a pretty ordinary pier that juts out into the Pacific Ocean. It's definitely worth walking to the end of it. I bought a cute shot glass to add to my silly collection and it was $8.65. For some lame reason, they make announcements that dogs are not allowed on the pier. Other than that, it's a cool hang and you can see surfers and even whales breaching in the distance. Even if you get to the Oceanside Pier on a colder, windy day, don't get intimidated! It's a nice walk and you'll get to see beautiful views of the ocean, of the shore and some pelicans along the way. The pier is more for walking, talking in the views. There are a couple of souvenir stores toward the end and a Ruby's which I wouldn't recommend, there are so many better options for restaurants in downtown (you might not get that view, but you'll have a better meal!). Since Oceanside is a surfing Mecca, you'll see surfers in the water which is cool, I know they also have competitions here, which would be cool to see. Nice pier, simple, made out of wood, charming. 07.04 Gosh, it's been 16 years since I lived 4 blocks from O'Side pier. Not much has changed on the beach side but across the street has been unrecognizable. Where it used to be an empty lot and dilapidated houses are now rows of fancy restaurants and hotels. Top Gun house has been updated and relocated on the opposite corner of the block. Still plenty of homeless people, not sure if dog poop or human poop on boardwalk. Updated restroom facilities. Heavy popo presence probably because it was the 4th. Able to find free 2 hour parking on PCH. read more

This is a nice pier and is so long it is hard to imagine it being crowded. Even with the south railing fenced off for upgrades there was plenty of room to fish. The pier is solidly constructed and has heavy broad flooring. There are restrooms about half way that are good as far as pier restrooms go. There is a bait and shack shop on the pier. read more

We were looking to dine near the water, but it was a little cool and windy, so we needed inside seating with a view. But where to look? Some quick Yelp searches turned up Ruby's Diner on Oceanside Pier, and since I hadn't yet seen the pier, off we went. According to their website, the historical Oceanside Pier is one of the longest wooden piers on the West Coast 1,942 feet. And it felt that way as we walked from our parking space on the street, down the sidewalk and onto the pier. The pier was quite busy, with many strolling toward the end of the pier which is where Ruby's Diner is located. Along the way, you can rent fishing poles or simply enjoy the view. And the views from the pier are great, especially at sunset. We dine at Ruby's, which offers great views, and mediocre food (feel free to check out that review). I'd be happy to stroll along Oceanside Pier any time, and think it's worth the walk. read more

Excellent north county pier with so much to see and do. Plenty of history with this wooden pier that has been rebuilt 3 times. Plenty of parking, paid and free. You can also take the train to the transit center and walk over. Farmers markets on Thursdays. Restaurants all around including Ruby's at the end of the pier. You can fish from the pier, and see the pelicans that will pose for pictures. There are various events that happen at the nearby amphitheater. There are surfing and body surfing competitions. BBQ and covered patios for parties. You can walk up the strand and get in scenic views and some exercise. Plenty of hotels and cottages to stay at. read more

I love walking the Pier, especially around sunset. It's amazing watching the sunset disappear into the ocean! I miss Ruby's restaurant at the end of the Pier. Always enjoyed a good burger there. Ruby's closed during covid. Looking forward to the next restaurant to open up on the Pier. If you want some good food at the Pier, The Tin Fish is under the pier on the Strand. I always get great fried cod or a burger & fries at Tin Fish. Check it out! You can fish from the pier or watch the surfers. There is usually a pelican hanging around and posing for pictures. I love this pier, but I love all piers. Beautiful views, and you can see if anyone is catching anything interesting. There's a just-right selection of food and treats, although the restaurant at the end of the pier has been "coming soon" for like four years now. There's some construction going on along one side as well as at the base, but nothing important is closed. There are bathrooms halfway down the length of the pier. You can't visit the city of Oceanside, California without walking the Oceanside Pier. This is one of the most classic things to do in Oceanside. The Oceanside Pier is popular amongst both locals and tourists. You can watch people fishing pretty much anytime you're there. You used to be able to eat at Ruby's Diner at the end of the pier; Ruby's was a 40s-style diner with American classics like fries, burgers, and milkshakes, but it has since closed. Unfortunately. It was such a cool spot! While you're strolling the pier, enjoy the wildlife. I've seen a sea lion, a seal, pelicans (on separate occasions not all at once although that would be cool) and of course tons of seagulls and pigeons. The pelicans are known for frequenting the pier especially since they can get some free fish. You might be lucky enough to see the pelican(s) and get a photo or two; they're not always there but they're there pretty often. Oceanside Pier has a small shop on it that you can get some convenience items and snacks. There are also restrooms if you need to use them. There're benches placed occasionally along the way if you want to rest or take in the scenery. If you enjoy the outdoors and just want to walk around with a beach view, this is a great spot! Oceanside Pier I haven't been there in years and I hate to say it but it's really really run down. The population is about 75% homeless, and it's pretty gross. I was surprised to see Ruby's diner closed, which is sad somebody needs to do something with that restaurant. It's nice to walk around there but it needs to be restored! I was surprised to see water being pumped from one end of the beach to another and it was coming out like mud into the ocean!! Gross! That's one pier I will not return too. read more

Very family friendly area. There is a large play structure on the beach with a nice picnic area to the side. You will definitely want to bring your own food because there isn't much within a block or two but it's great for parents looking for a place for the kids to let out some energy. read more

This pier is south of Huntington Beach and north of San Diego. If your not sure of the area than you can look on maps and find it. (Only if you want) It's a wonderful long pier with Ruby's dinner at the end. Ruby's is s 50's style hamburger joint. There's surfing on both sides with the beaches packed during the weekends. Now school is out and it's crowded everyday. There is fishing from the pier so as you walk everyone is looking to see if the big one was caught. Ha ha. On the corner at the beginning of the pier is a fantastic seafood restaurant called 333. That's because it's their address. Duh. On the boardwalk are venders selling goodies to eat and drink. Today the clouds were hanging around but usually it's picture perfect. Lots of hotels to stay at right on the beach. read more

Gorgeous area and I'm jealous of the locals who get to see this pier on a regular basis. We luckily found parking in the small area where they have the muni meters which was surprisingly very affordable. I loved that the pier had wheelchair accessibility. The views from this pier are spectacular. We watched several surfers catch their waves. There were a few shops and a restaurant, Ruby's on the pier that looked crowded. We saw alot of people fishing and catching these small fish which was cool to witness. There are several benches throughout the pier for you to enjoy looking at the water or people watching. Such a mellow place to spend time at. The general area can get busy but not too crazy. Parking is hard to find but we were lucky to be staying conveniently at a beach front property the entire week. It was literally crawling distance. I did a few morning runs which included this pier. The pier is LOOONG. Just watch out for the early bird fishermen and other joggers, and the birds! Stay away from Charlie the Pelican because he'll bite you. I saw a few people try to take selfies with him and it got real ugly. Rubys is at the end. They have great malts!!! Oceanside Pier is a wonderful place to visit and relax. I stopped here for a short walk as I was driving down the coast to San Diego from Orange County. The pier gives you an outstanding view of the coastline, and the ocean. Just walking along the pier and watching people fish and surf was fun. A place for sunset strolling, a place to fish, and a place for dinner. The Oceanside pier is a relatively safe, highly trafficked pier. It's a long one at almost 2000 feet. Known for the amazing sunset and the "colorful" characters serenading the passersby. Notes: ,- The pier is heavily used by fisherman, which isn't a problem per say, but there are no signs prohibiting overhead casting. - Under the pier has a variety of food places and a skateboard / amphitheater. This is where the teens hangout and sometimes riff-raff. - Looking to spend the day at the beach? My personal preference is north of the pier. Generally less people and they also have grills for BBQing. - Tin Fish (under the pier) is your best choice for casual fish plates in the area. - Nothing wrong with Ruby's at the end of the pier. read more

It was my 1st time and I spent 5 hrs here photographing and watching the surfers in the morning. read more

13 years ago I remember what a dump Oceanside was... now I couldn't believe my eyes! And yes, it's been 13 years since I actually hung out/step foot in Oceanside. I was here for a fitness event at the amphitheater. We set up on the beach and facing their cool pier. Their downtown is actually really cool. Lots of new things being built. There's a playground for kids. Lots of beach picnic tables and pits. I gotta explore more of OSide now that I'm going to be residing here! It's all paid and meter parking around the pier, but if you park 4 blocks away, its residential and free all day long. read more

This is really a must when you visit the town of Oceanside. So much of this city is centered round this spot and the beach, it would be a shame to miss out on their calling card. We started at the bottom (below) so we could get a shake. Then we proceeded to the top to walk out onto the pier. Regardless of the time of day there is always something cool going on here it seems. While we were there mid-day there were tons of surfers out at about the third or fourth set of breaking waves .... taking turns (for the most part) catching some waves. If we had been a little later we would have been in the perfect spot to catch an amazing sunset over the Pacific. People all seemed to be friendly and litter was at a minimum. It seems like everyone cares about the appearance of this place and does a nice job taking care of it. If you're in Oceanside, set out a few minutes to check this place out. read more

We went on a walk after brunch down the pier. People can fish on the side of the pier. There was a little play area. On the beach for your little ones. They had little food vendors on the beach as well. The high pie (Top Gun house) is not too far away. read more

This is the most boring pier I've ever been to. It's just a bunch of wood planks leading to a Ruby's. I'm used to piers being more like boardwalks I guess- Redondo Beach and Santa Monica have what I grew up thinking piers should be. It's still a nice walk after a meal in downtown Oceanside, and the views are picturesque. I often catch surf competitions from it. I prefer coming off season or first thing in the morning because parking is difficult otherwise. I'm a cheapskate and I prefer the free lots, which are blocks away. The transit center has a free parking structure too. Overall, I do enjoy coming here to clear my head. I just don't like getting harassed as I do by the aggressive homeless people.
